Florence Edison

The graveside service for Florence Edison will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Edison, 80, of Gresham, formerly of Ashland, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) at a Gresham foster home.

She was born July 8, 1919, in Lueders, Texas, a daughter of Nellie and Gust Ekdahl. She moved to Mesa, Ariz., in 1939, and to Ashland in 1949.

Mrs. Edison worked for Camp White Military facility in White City.

In 1955, she moved to Portland where she worked in the cafeteria at St. Vincent's Hospital.

She was a member of the Lutheran church.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Morrelli, Portland; three sons, Garry and Ron Johnson, both Gilbert, Ariz., and Don Edison, Chandler, Ariz.; a brother, Raymond Ekdahl, Central Point; a sister, Doris Spiller, Gresham; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Georgina Dorothy Hicks

Georgina Dorothy Hicks, 93, of Medford, died Oct. 26, 1999, at the home of her longtime companions and caregivers, Mickey and Marlene Foster, where she had lived for the past five years. No service is planned.

She was born Georgina Fernandez on Feb. 11, 1906, in Oakland, Calif.

As a young woman, she moved to the Hawaiian Islands where she married Harold Hicks, who died in 1964. She later moved to Sacramento, Calif., where she lived until she moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

Survivors include a niece, Dolly Scatena, Hayward, Calif. She was preceded in death by a son, Milton, killed in World War II; three brothers, John, Clarence, and Manuel; and five sisters, Mary, Ida, Shandra, Rachel, and Evelyn.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Lila Varela Newhall

The graveside service for Lila Varela Newhall will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford. Pastor Robert Newhall of Portland will officiate.

Mrs. Newhall, 87, of Central Point, died Friday (Oct. 29, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Lila Varela on May 11, 1912, in Mexico.

On Oct. 4, 1937, in Carson City, Nev., she married Myron J. Newhall, who died in 1979. She moved to the Rogue Valley two years ago from San Jose, Calif.

Mrs. Newhall was a hospital volunteer.

She enjoyed crocheting and sewing.

Survivors include a son, Read, Medford; a daughter, Janice Carley, in New Jersey; a sister, Emily Snyder, San Jose, Calif.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Everett Jacob Fisher

Everett Jacob Fisher, 97, of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 1, 1999) in Providence Medford Medical Center. No service is planned. Private entombment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Louisville, Ky.

He was born Nov. 1, 1902, in Clarence, N.Y.

In 1928, in Clarence, he married Blanche Hollingsworth, who died in 1976. He moved to Medford from Louisville three years ago.

Mr. Fisher worked for General Electric for 42 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Bloomquist, Eagle Point; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements will be announced by Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

`Gigi' Brodeur-Duggan

The funeral Mass for Cathleen "Gigi" Brodeur-Duggan will be at 4 p.m. today in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford. A gathering of family and friends will follow at 6 p.m. at the Ashland Elks Lodge.

Mrs. Brodeur-Duggan, 80, of Talent, died Sunday (Oct. 31, 1999) at her home.

She was born Cathleen May Dockety on May 31, 1919, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was raised in the New York area, and moved to Ashland from Phoenix, Ariz., in 1996.

On Feb. 21, 1998, in Ashland, she married Louis Duggan, who survives. She moved to Talent in 1998.

Mrs. Brodeur-Duggan was a registered nurse in the New York area for many years, often providing private care.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Jim Brodeur, Ashland, Robert Brodeur, Medford, Lester Brodeur, Hudson, N.H., and Donald Brodeur, Delray Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Cathleen Cudd, Concord, Calif., and Michelle Orton, Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Jim Dockety, Houston; four sisters, Adelaide Cann, Lucille Kowalsky, Mildred Marggis, and Genevieve Haswell, all Brooklyn, N.Y.; 27 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter; three sisters; and a brother.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Crematory & Funeral Home, Ashland.

Donald G. Stillwagon

Donald Gene Stillwagon, 66, of Prospect, died Oct. 26, 1999, in Prospect. A private service will be held.

He was born Jan. 28, 1933, in Los Angeles. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Los Angeles in 1968.

Mr. Stillwagon owned and operated Gorge Store and the Prospect General Store for many years. He retired in 1998.

Survivors include three sons, David, Prospect, Greg, Tillamook, and Troy, Whitethorn, Calif.; a sister, Shirley Riley, La Rosa, Calif.; a brother, George, in California; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Kenneth Gene Morris

Kenneth Gene Morris, 61, of White City, died Friday (Oct. 29, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center. A private service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Oregon Chapter, 4412 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 220, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Redmond. He graduated from Medford High School in 1956.

On Aug. 4, 1977, in Medford, he married Toni Winkler, who died in 1986.

Mr. Morris worked for Rogue Valley Plywood for 20 years.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Morris enjoyed the Atlanta Braves baseball team and the Oakland Raiders football team and the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include four daughters, Marisa King, Jacksonville, Sharon Davis, Sams Valley, Susan Arthur, Tualatin, and Rhonda Oxley, in Southern California; two sons, Mike Winkler, White City, and Gary Winkler, Eugene; a brother, David, Central Point; a sister, Jana Gunn, Central Point; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A son, Allen Morris, died in 1992.
