Astrid P. Simon

The funeral service for Astrid P. Simon will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 1407 N. B St., Ellensburg, Wash. Burial will follow at High Cemetery in Ellensburg.

Mrs. Simon, 70, formerly of the Medford area, died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) at her home in Kittitas, Wash.

She was born on Oct. 8, 1928, in Elk River, Idaho, a daughter of Gottfred H. and Wilma Hansen. She graduated from Medford High School in 1946.

In 1953 in Central Point, she married George R. Simon, who survives. She moved to Kittitas in 1979.

Mrs. Simon worked as her husband's secretary for 25 years while he was a pastor in Washington and Oregon.

She served on various church committees and as a volunteer for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Kittitas County.

She enjoyed the outdoors.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Cynthia Schultz, Abbotsford, British Columbia; four sons, Dwight, Selah, Wash., John, Kittitas, Wash., Kenneth, Oliver, British Columbia, and Raymond, Abidjan, West Africa; two brothers, Rudy Hansen, Medford, and Wilfred Hanson, Eugene; and 16 grandchildren.

Mabel N. Thompson

The memorial service for Mabel Neleva Thompson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church in Central Point. Rev. Dwayne Brown will officiate.

Mrs. Thompson, 95, died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in Medford.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1903, in Blue Earth, Minn. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1951.

On Jan. 12, 1921, in Van Hook, N.D., she married Frank J. Thompson, who died in 1992.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Medford. She enjoyed gardening, pinochle, playing the piano and family gatherings.

Survivors include two daughters, Clara Thompson of Central Point and Dot Thompson of Medford; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Hulver Johnson and Ella Mary Johnson, and by four sons, three brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary.

Eugene G. Miller

Eugene G. Miller, 67, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 22, 1999) at his home. A private service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 8495 Crater Lake Highway, White City, OR 97503.

He was born March 21, 1932, in Blackfoot, Idaho.

On May 11, 1954, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Patricia Ann Foley, who survives.

Mr. Miller belonged to Southern Oregon Citizens for Independent Living, where he and another member built wheelchair ramps for others at no charge. He was also a volunteer probation officer with Project Misdemeanant in Jackson County.

During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart medal. He was classified as an expert rifleman.

Mr. Miller enjoyed fishing, poker, gardening and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Kerry Joy Carpenter, Medford, and Lisa Bessett, Springfield; a son, Brian Miller, San Francisco; three sisters, Shirley Williams, Las Vegas, Ilene Winterholler, Filer, Idaho, and Esther Ahrens, Twin Falls, Idaho; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Jack A. Good

A celebration of the life of Jack A. Good will be at 11 a.m Friday at the regular Friday healing service at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford. Private inurnment will be in the Columbarium at St. Francis Church in San Jose, Calif.

Mr. Good, 76, of Medford, died Thursday (Sept. 23, 1999) in Medford.

He was born July 2, 1923, in Deer Lodge, Mont. He attended high school and Carroll College in Helena, Mont.

In 1947, in Helena, he married Virginia McCoy, who died in 1995.

Mr. Good was a financial analyst with IBM from 1950 until 1978, when he retired. He moved to the Rogue Valley from San Jose in 1986.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Good was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Medford.

Survivors include a son, Mark, Norcross, Ga.; and a brother, James, Pismo Beach, Calif.

Irma M. Applen

The memorial service for Irma M. Applen will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford. Private interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford. The Rev. Robert L. Larson officiated.

Mrs. Applen, 82, of Medford, died Sept. 16, 1999, in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be be made to the Choir Music Fund, c/o Ascension Lutheran Church, 2617 Barnett Road, Medford.

She was born Irma M. Johnson on Jan. 7, 1917, in Pleasant, N.D.

On Jan. 22, 1938, in St. Paul, Minn., she married Wendell I. Applen, who died in 1997. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California in 1948.

Mrs. Applen was a homemaker, and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford.

Survivors include a son, Gregory L., Medford; and two grandchildren.

Sarah M. Snure

The graveside service for Sarah M. Snure will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland.

Mrs. Snure, 45, of Ashland, died Sept. 3, 1999, at Cape Coral Memorial Hospital, Cape Coral, Fla.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland High School Booster Club, P.O. Box 121, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Dec. 23, 1953, in Dothan, Ala. She moved to Ashland in 1980 from Chicago.

On Feb. 22, 1986, in Ashland, she married Steve T. Snure, who died March 23, 1999.

Mrs. Snure was a social worker/therapist at Dunn House, working with battered women and children with emotional problems.

Survivors include two sons, Jeremy Reed and Jason Reed, both Portland; her mother, June C. Hale, Cape Coral, Fla.; her father, Thomas W. Robinson, Wilmington, N.C.; and a sister, Polly Wilson, Cape Coral, Fla.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Nancy Leverne Parrack

Nancy Leverne Parrack, 64, of Medford, died Tuesday (Sept. 21, 1999) at her home. A private service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Nancy Leverne Cox on May 3, 1935, in Belfair, Wash. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Belfair 62 years ago.

On Sept. 23, 1950, in Medford, she married Joseph Parrack, who survives.

Mrs. Leverne was a manager at the Bi-Mor gas station on Jacksonville Highway.

She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Parrack enjoyed crafts, gardening and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four daughters, Carolyn S. Vakoc, Willamina, Vickie K. Strasser, Marion, Ark., and Gale Roesler and Lora J. Harp, both Medford.; three sisters, Thelma Anderson, San Bernardino, Calif., Lelia Wright, San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Jean Edwards, Klamath Falls; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Leroy Cox; and a sister, Virginia Cox.
