Josephine German Lyle

The funeral Mass for Josephine German Lyle will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. The Rev. John Cihak will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. today at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass.

Mrs. Lyle, 86, of Central Point, formerly of Grants Pass, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, 1131 N.E. Tenth St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Josephine McGraw on July 7, 1913, in Los Angeles. She graduated from North Hollywood High School in 1931.

On Jan. 29, 1932, in Ventura County, Calif., she married Glenn Donald German, who died in 1976. She moved to Grants Pass in 1948 from Los Angeles.

On Sept. 12, 1991, she married Lawrence Lyle, who survives. She moved to Central Point eight years ago from Grants Pass.

Mrs. Lyle was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, where she taught catechism. She was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2302 Auxiliary in Grants Pass.

She enjoyed dogs and vegetable and flower gardening.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Jerry German, Central Point, and Don German, Grants Pass; three sisters, Helen Jubera, Grants Pass, Henrietta Merrill, Rogue River, and Annabelle Reynolds, Laurel, Ohio; two brothers, Lou Merrill, Grants Pass, and Ralph Merrill, Florence; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A son, David German, died in 1953.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass.

Jason J. `Pup' Menteer

A celebration of the life of Jason Joseph "Pup" Menteer will be at noon Saturday at 796 Covered Bridge Road in Wimer.

Mr. Menteer, 22, of Rogue River, died Monday (Aug. 30, 1999) in Central Point.

He was born Feb. 24, 1977 in San Jose, Calif., a son of Larry and Roberta Menteer. He moved to the Rogue Valley 19 years ago from San Jose, Calif., and grew up in Wimer.

Mr. Menteer graduated in 1995 from North Medford High School, where he was a member of the state championship football team in 1993-1994. He qualified for the Junior Olympics martial arts team to Krems, Austria, in 1991, representing Chip Wright's Studio, and was a bronze medalist. He was a four-time member of the North Medford High School track team. He broke many weight-lifting records during his school years.

On June 26, 1999, at the Covered Bridge in Wimer, he married Chelsea RayAnne Sousa, who survives.

Mr. Menteer was a former volunteer fireman for Central Point District No. 3.

He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his parents, Larry and Roberta Menteer, Wimer; and a brother, Juston, Wimer. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Andrew Menteer and Florence Louise Menteer.

Laurence E. Vielbig

Laurence Eldred Vielbig, 91, of Central Point, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at Medford Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

Mr. Vielbig was born March 16, 1908, in Trading Post, Kan.

On Dec. 31, 1954, in Reno, Nev., he married Odessa Campbell, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950 from Lebanon, Mo.

Mr. Vielbig was an auto mechanic.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Shirley Groves and Bonnie Johnson, both Springfield, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Janet Hubbard, Central Point; a stepson, Bud G. Mires, Gilchrist; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. A brother, Willis, died in 1970; a sister, Audry Taylor, died in 1964.

Myrtle Louise Day

Myrtle Louise Day, 93, of Shady Cove, died Friday (Aug. 27, 1999) at her home. A private service has been held.

She was born Myrtle L. Helm on Feb. 3, 1906, in Oneco, Fla.

On Dec. 22, 1923, in Bradenton, Fla., she married Albert Orme Day, who died in 1965. She moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from Sarasota, Fla.

Mrs. Day was a homemaker.

She enjoyed the outdoors and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Robert, Shady Cove, Richard, Central Point, and Thomas, Quincy, Ill.; a daughter, Julia Hadley, Spokane, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Albert Day.

Kenneth G. Meade

The memorial service for Kenneth G. Meade will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Southwest Bible Church, 14605 S.W. Weir Road, in Beaverton. Private inurnment will be in Memory Gardens in Medford.

Mr. Meade, 86, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1999) at his daughter's home in Tigard.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 9205 S.W. Barnes Road, Portland, OR 97225.

He was born Oct. 24, 1912, in Nickelsville, Va.

On Nov. 21, 1940, in Omaha, Neb., he married Kathlyn Liddell, who died in 1997. In October 1997, he married Helen Gamsby, who died July 22, 1999.

Mr. Meade was a retired appliance salesman.

Survivors include a daughter, April Mahone, Tigard; a brother, Carl, Knoxville, Tenn.; a sister, Bonelene McConnell, Kingsport, Tenn.; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.

Arrangements: Skyline Funeral Home, Portland.

Sharon Ardith Brown

The memorial service for Sharon Ardith Brown will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Community Bible Church in Central Point. Pastor Ron McKay will officiate. A gathering celebrating her life will follow at the church.

Mrs. Brown, 61, of Central Point, died Friday (Aug. 27, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Sharon Jeffries on March 19, 1938, in Portland.

On March 23, 1957, she married Ted Brown, who survives.

She was a member of the National Association of Family and Community Education, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Beta Sigma Phi (Preceptor Eta) with over 25 years of perfect attendance.

Mrs. Brown enjoyed crafts and cooking.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Dan, Lane and Jed, all Central Point, and Jeff, Seattle; two sisters, Sheila Fernandez, Juneau, Alaska, and Sherrill Powell, Roseburg; two brothers, Lyle Jeffries, Winston, and Mike Jeffries, Canyonville; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Mary Ruth Jones

The funeral for Mary Ruth Jones will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Harvest Baptist Temple in Medford. Pastor Bob Gass will officiate. The graveside service will follow in Rock Point Cemetery in Gold Hill.

Ms. Jones, 84, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at Three Fountains Nursing Center.

She was born Mary Tepovac on Sept. 25, 1914, in Sams Valley. In 1952, she moved to the Rogue Valley from Lakeview.

Ms. Jones was the owner and operator of Mary's Little Lamb Day Care in Medford for 17 years.

She was a member of Harvest Baptist Temple in Medford.

Ms. Jones enjoyed bingo.

Survivors include three daughters, Donna Rosecrans Lynch, Lakeview, Ruth Rosecrans Lee, Auburn, Wash., and Shirley Jones, Sacramento, Calif.; a son, Ray Newman, Portland; a sister, Vonnie Fitchner, Medford; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Mike and John Tepovac; and by a sister, Amelia Chamberlin.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care in Central Point.

Lloyd Hull Cummings

The graveside service for Lloyd Hull Cummings will be at 1 p.m. today in Memory Gardens Memorial Park. Pastor Lou Schneider of Zion Lutheran Church will officiate.

Mr. Cummings, 83, of Medford, died Saturday (Aug. 28, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Oregon Trail Chapter, 1311 N.W. 21st Ave., Portland, OR 97209.

He was born April 27, 1916, in Carlisle, Iowa.

On June 11, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, he married Pauline Lundahl, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Adel, Iowa.

Mr. Cummings was the police chief in Carlisle, Iowa.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Mr. Cummings enjoyed rock hounding and rose gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Jean Richardson, Central Point, and Sharon Kline, Pendleton; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ray.
