Rick Dean Breshears

The graveside service for Rick Dean Breshears will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Rick Vestnys of Applegate Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mr. Breshears, 40, of Medford, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 380 S.E. Spokane St., Suite 110, Portland, OR 97202.

He was born Nov. 14, 1958, in Visalia, Calif.

On April 14, 1996, in Medford, he married Nancy Thompson, who survives.

Mr. Breshears was a truck driver.

He enjoyed the ocean, woodworking and rafting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two stepsons, Shannon Meadows, Grants Pass, and Seth Wiltermood, Merlin; a stepdaughter, Angie Loghry, Oceanside, Calif.; his parents, George and Iva Breshears Jr., Visalia, Calif.; three brothers, Chuck, Alan and Michael, all Visalia, Calif.; a sister, Phyllis Owens, Gold Hill; and five step-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Inc., Medford.

J.V. Sanders

The graveside service for J.V. Sanders will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Park. The Rev. Lyle McCaw of White City Christian Church will officiate.

Mr. Sanders, 78, of Medford, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) at Three Fountains Health Care.

He was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Johnston City, Ill.

On Sept. 3, 1946, in Bellingham, Wash., he married Florence E. Thompson, who died on May 14 of this year. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1990 from Spokane, Wash.

Mr. Sanders served in the U.S. Navy for 26 years. Following his naval service, he worked in civil service at the Nuclear Weapons Facility in Oakland, Calif. He retired in 1985.

He enjoyed bowling and gardening.

Survivors include a son, Gary, Medford; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.

Robert Frank O'Neil

Friends and family of Robert Frank O'Neil will gather for a memorial service at noon Sunday at the home of Pete O'Neil, 10185 Horsely Road, Midland.

The event also will be a memorial service for his wife, Helen Rae Quigley, who died July 16 of this year.

Robert Frank O'Neil, 68, of Phoenix, formerly of Klamath Falls, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Alpena, Mich.

On April 16, 1955, in Klamath Falls, he married Helen Rae Quigley, who died July 16 of this year. They lived in Klamath Falls, Medford, Rocky Point and Phoenix.

Mr. O'Neil worked at Rogue Valley Plywood in White City for 14 years, retiring in 1976.

He was a past member of the Rogue Valley Racing Association and past president for two terms of the Rogue Snowmobilers Association. He was on the board of directors of the Harriman Rural Fire Protection District and served as fire chief and assistant fire chief in Rocky Point.

Mr. O'Neil served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He enjoyed car racing, snowmobiling, woodworking and hunting.

Survivors include a son, Steven Lynn, Phoenix; a daughter, Cindy Sue O'Neil, Klamath Falls; three brothers, William D., Roseburg, Peter R., Midland, and James F., Lachine, Mich.; three sisters, Sharon Pepples, Bend, Doris Lynn Burns and Donna Nevins, both Alpena, Mich.; and two grandchildren.

Ruth S. Farwell

The memorial service for Ruth S. Farwell will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at the Cotton Memorial Picnic Grounds at Lithia Park.

Mrs. Farwell, 79, of Ashland, died Tuesday (July 27, 1999) in Ashland from complications of a stroke.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504, or to the American Association of University Women Education Fund, c/o Ann Stein, 215 Piedmont Drive, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Ruth Lenore Schram in 1920 in Beloit, Wisc. She graduated from Oberlin College in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in sociology, and from Columbia University in 1948 with a master's degree in social work.

On June 21, 1954, in Greenwich, Conn., she married Brice Farwell, who survives.

Mrs. Farwell practiced psychiatric and school social work in the New York City and Westchester County areas from 1948 to 1982, when she moved to Morgan Hill, Calif. In Morgan Hill, she operated Country Cloth, a retail partnership in quilting materials. She moved to Ashland in 1990 following her husband's retirement.

In Jackson County, she was active as treasurer of the League of Women Voters of Ashland and in three weaver's guilds: The Rogue Valley Handweavers, Far Out Fibers and Saturday Weavers Guild of the Rogue Valley, of which she was past president. For the past two years she had been a participant in the Drama Dialogue Group of the Rogue Valley, Southern Oregon Learning in Retirement, a community conversation group, a book discussion group, and an informal spinners group. In Morgan Hill, Calif., she had been past president of the American Association of University Women.

Mrs. Farwell served as a volunteer at Dunn House and at Community Works.

She enjoyed needlework and was known for her quilting and weaving.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Sharon Leigh Farwell, Ashland; a son, Peter Jonathan, Lakewood, N.J.; a stepson, Daniel George, Crownsville, Md.; a brother, Hobart Schram, Los Angeles; a sister, Jean Groover, Plainfield, N.J.; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great-granddaughter.

Friends may pay their respects from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Patrick McDermott

Patrick McDermott, 52, of Reno, formerly of Medford and Shady Cove, died Friday (July 23, 1999) at his home. The memorial service was held on Wednesday at the South Reno Baptist Church.

He was born May 4, 1947, in Indiana, a son of Walter L. and Kathryn (Kirkley) McDermott. He lived in Medford and Shady Cove from 1980 to 1982.

Mr. McDermott managed a grocery store.

He was a member of South Reno Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara, Reno; a son, Timothy, Reno; two daughters, Heather McDermott, Chicago, and Heidi Keimach, Temecula, Calif.; his mother, Kathryn Harper, Reno; two brothers, David R., Medford, and Dennis, Simi Valley, Calif.; five sisters, Maureen Stephenson, Dallas, Ore., Melissa Ruettgers, Stayton, Mary Pike, Eileen McDermott, and Peggy McDermott, all Reno; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Reno Memorial, Nev.

Joan L. Saunders

The funeral for Joan Lucille Saunders will be at 10 a.m. today at Ashland First Baptist Church. Pastor Don Baldrica will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland, Calif.

Ms. Saunders, 53, of Phoenix, died July 21, 1999, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland First Baptist Church, 2004 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520, or to the Sequoyah Community Church, 4292 Keller Ave., Oakland, CA 94605.

She was born Dec. 21, 1945, in Glendale, Calif., a daughter of Robert and Lucille Saunders.

Ms. Saunders was a teacher. She taught kindergarten for 25 years in Alameda County, Calif. She moved to Ashland in 1996 and to Phoenix in 1998.

She was a member of the Ashland First Baptist Church and the Sequoyah Community Church in Oakland, Calif.

Ms. Saunders enjoyed caring for her dogs, volunteering in church activities, swimming and reading.

Survivors include a brother, John Saunders, Webster, Texas.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Neal Joseph Harrigan

The graveside service for Neal Joseph Harrigan will be at 4 p.m. today at Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens in Klamath Falls. Tim Lancaster will officiate.

Mr. Harrigan, of White City and Grants Pass, died Monday (July 26, 1999) at the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City.

He was born June 25, 1932, in Reno, Nev., a son of William T. and Nellie J. (Anderson) Harrigan. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada and a master's degree in education from the University of Arizona.

On Dec. 21, 1974, in Klamath Falls, he married Janice Pex, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Harrigan was a teacher in Reno, Chiloquin and most recently at Insight Alternative School in Grants Pass.

He worked with teenagers as a member of the Foster Grandparents Association.

During the Korean War, he was a pilot in the lst and 6th infantry divisions.

Mr. Harrigan enjoyed drawing, animals and working with children.

Survivors include his companion, Lois McGraw, Grants Pass; three sons, Bradley Harrigan, Springfield, Jacob Dowell and Aaron D. Dowell; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret D. Carter.

Arrangements: Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, Klamath Falls.
