Don V. Hanning

Don V. Hanning, 74, of Roseburg, formerly of Medford, died Wednesday at his home. No service is planned.

He was born May 31, 1924, in Bellingham, Wash., and grew up in Coos Bay. He graduated from Benson High School in Portland.

After working in private industry, Mr. Hanning taught machine shop at Medford High School from 1952 to 1967. He also taught at Clackamas Community College from 1967 to 1972; Burns High School, from 1972 to 1975; and Roseburg High School, from 1975 until his retirement in 1980.

He served in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

Mr. Hanning enjoyed fishing, hunting and annual trips to Canada.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, Roseburg; a daughter, Judy Fisher, Portland; a brother, Bryce, Renton, Wash.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Arrangements: Taylor's Family Mortuary in Winston.

Douglas J. Fitzsimmons

Douglas Jesse Fitzsimmons, 77, of Medford, died Friday (May 21, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. A private family service has been held.

He was born March 28, 1922, in Warren, Ark.

On June 16, 1948, in Redding, Calif., he married Helen Maunders, who died in 1998. He moved to the community 50 years ago from Redding.

Mr. Fitzsimmons began his career with Sierra Cascade, which became Elk Lumber, and then Boise Cascade. He worked for Boise Cascade for 30 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening and being a grandfather.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Fitzsimmons, Medford, and Dennis Wyatt, San Mateo, Calif.; a daughter, Pamela Fitzsimmons, Redlands, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Regina H. Sherba

Regina Helen Sherba, 72, of Medford, died Thursday (May 20, 1999) in Medford. A service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, Outreach Fund, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point, OR 97502, or Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Attn: Heart Center, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Regina Helen Fuchs on Jan. 24, 1927, in Ambridge, Pa.

On Feb. 14, 1946, in Ambridge, she married George Sherba, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley from California in 1996.

Mrs. Sherba was a self-employed beautician.

She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years, and a member of the Polish National Alliance.

Mrs. Sherba enjoyed gardening and cooking.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Valerie Wheeler, Medford, and Carole Homar, Casa Grande, Ariz.; her mother, Sophie Fuchs, Palm Desert, Calif.; two brothers, Joseph Fuchs Jr., Palm Springs, Calif., and Richard Fuchs, Clear Lake, Calif.; two sisters, Henrietta Zinne, Garden Grove, Calif., and Christine Paulidas, Palm Desert, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Charles Edward Batson

The memorial service for Charles Edward Batson will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Interfaith Chapel at the Veteran's Affairs Domiciliary in White City. Chaplain M. Jerry Gilmer of the VA Domiciliary will officiate. Interment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Batson, 49, of White City, died May 9, 1999, at his home.

He was born Sept. 27, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan. He moved to the Rogue Valley in January.

Mr. Batson was a caregiver in the health-care industry.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Dorothy Sneed Worley

Dorothy Marie Sneed Worley, 82, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 18, 1999) at Wood River Medical Center in Sun Valley, Idaho. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

She was born Dorothy Marie Price on June 14, 1916, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She moved to Southern Oregon as a small child.

She attended Southern Oregon Normal School, now Southern Oregon University, where she received a two-year teaching degree. In 1940, she graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in home economics.

On Dec. 23, 1940, she married Olan H. Sneed, who died in 1986.

On Feb. 14, 1988, in Gold Beach, she married Edward T. Worley, who survives.

Mrs. Worley taught school for 30 years in Medford, Eagle Point, and Klamath Falls.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women, and the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Worley enjoyed playing bridge and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two daughters, Susanne Harris, Medford, and Kay Euhus, Springfield; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Eugene W. Anderson

Eugene W. Anderson, 73, of Trail, died Thursday (May 20, 1999) in Medford. The memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born July 23, 1925, in Jamestown, N.D. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, when he was a child.

On Aug. 20, 1949, in Central Point, he married Roanna Cushman, who died in 1995.

Mr. Anderson worked in the logging industry where he was well known as a cat skinner.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the American Legion.

Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda McFall, Medford, Debra Anderson, Trail, and Terri Hanscom, Ketchikan, Alaska; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Virginia Eileen Wells

The graveside service for Virginia Eileen Wells will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens in Grants Pass. Pastor Chuck Burkeen of Gateway Christian Fellowship will officiate. The funeral was held Saturday at College Heights Baptist Church in Grants Pass. Pastor Chuck Burkeen officiated.

Mrs. Wells, 79, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (May 20, 1999) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Washington Campus, in Grants Pass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Better Life Television (3ABN), P.O. Box 766, Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Virginia Stimpfling on April 24, 1920, in Los Angeles, Calif. She moved to Grants Pass in 1972 from Antioch, Calif.

Mrs. Wells was an answering service receptionist in Grants Pass for many years.

She enjoyed her dog, Mitsy, Better Life Television, crocheting and gardening.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela J. King and Barbara J. Amory-Hinsley, both Grants Pass; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald P., in 1959; and a daughter, Jeannette M. Morris, in 1982.

Arrangements: Lundberg's L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Clayton "Woody" Woodbury

Clayton "Woody" Woodbury, 83, of Medford died Thursday (May 20, 1999) at his home. A private graveside service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Woodbury was born on March 11, 1916 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. On Nov. 14, 1942 he married Edna E. Cox in Champaign, Ill., who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995.

He grew up in Anaheim, Calif., and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. After the war, he worked as a civilian personnel officer at Fort Ord, Calif. and the Presidio, San Francisco, Calif. He also served in the civilian personnel in Munich, Germany. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include two sons, John Woodbury, Chico, Calif., and David Woodbury, Monterey, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services.
