Wesley A. Clanton

The funeral for Wesley Addison Clanton will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lovelock, Nev. Interment will follow at Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Mr. Clanton, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 30, 1999) at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Highland, Ill.

On Aug. 4, 1940, he married Vera Davis, who died in 1983.

Mr. Clanton was an air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration in Palmdale, Calif., until his retirement in 1970.

Following his retirement, he moved to Fountain Green, Utah, then to Winnemucca, Nev., and then to Lovelock, Nev., in 1982. While in Lovelock, he served on the Pershing General Hospital board of trustees from 1984 to 1987. He moved to Medford in 1989 and returned to Winnemucca in 1993. In 1995, he returned to Oregon.

Mr. Clanton served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1940.

He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons lodge in Highland and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include three sons, John, Medford, Russell, Sparks, and Wesley A., Lower Lake, Calif.; three sisters, Bea Franklin, Carlyle, Ill., Janice Koehnemann, Highland, Ill, and Bernice Kuhn, Pocahantas, Ill.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, 550 Business Park Drive, Medford.

Dwight D. Thompson

The funeral for Dwight Dee Thompson will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford. The Rev. Earl Phillips of the Apostolic Faith Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Thompson, 47, of Talent, died Tuesday (March 30, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Dialysis Center, 2868 Creekside Circle, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 28, 1951, in Grants Pass, a son of Clyde and Lucille Thompson. He graduated from Rogue River High School in 1970 and lived in the Rogue Valley most of his life.

Mr. Thompson worked for Montgomery Ward in Medford.

He was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Medford.

Mr. Thompson enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with stained glass.

Survivors include a son, Andrew, Minnesota; his mother, Lucille Thompson, Grants Pass; and a brother, Jack, Grants Pass. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Thompson, in 1998.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris in Medford.

Margaret J. Warren

The memorial service for Margaret Josephine Warren will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Southern Baptist Church of Medford. Pastor George Irvin will officiate. Private interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Warren, 86, of Medford, died Monday (March 29, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Southern Baptist Church, 794 Lozier Lane, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Margaret Josephine Speece on July 22, 1912, in Kimball, Neb.

In 1931, in El Paso, Texas, she married Charles B. Warren, who died in 1970. She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Warren was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Medford.

She enjoyed crafts, gardening, bird watching and preparing food for friends.

Survivors include a son, Charles B. Jr., Talent; a daughter, Katy Lou Warren, Durham, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild and a sister.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Conger-Morris of Medford.

Jean Turner Nixon

The memorial service for Jean Turner Nixon will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Episcopal Parish, Medford. The Rev. David Close will officiate.

Mrs. Nixon, 72, of Medford, died Tuesday (March 30, 1999) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Endowment Fund, 212 N. Oakdale Ave., Medford, OR 97501, or Samaritan Counseling Center, P.O. Box 566, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Jean Turner on Oct. 8, 1926, in Glendale, Calif.

On June 26, 1949, in Los Angeles, she married Thomas F. Nixon, who survives. She moved to the Rogue Valley 11 years ago from Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Mrs. Nixon was a teacher and homemaker. In 1949, she worked in the Long Beach School District. In 1958, she taught in the Conejo Valley School District. She and her husband owned and operated Nixon's Spur and Sport in Thousand Oaks.

She was a founding member of the Conejo Players and of St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Thousand Oaks. Mrs. Nixon was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Parish, Medford.

She enjoyed reading, theater, dance and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Thomas F., Villa Park, Calif.; a daughter, Randy L. Nixon, Murphys, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Leslie M. McCartney

The funeral for Leslie Margaret McCartney was held Wednesday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Pastor Andy Green of Ashland Christian Fellowship officiated. Private interment was in Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.

Mrs. McCartney, 80, of Ashland, died Saturday (March 27, 1999) at her home.

She was born Leslie Long on Aug. 25, 1918, in Harrison County, Mo. She was raised in Missouri and Wenatchee, Wash, where she graduated from high school.

In 1938, in Wenatchee, she married Harry E. McCartney, who preceded her in death. She lived in Klamath Falls from 1942 to 1953 before moving to Ashland.

Mrs. McCartney was a waitress.

She was a past president of the Degree of Honor Women's Club.

Mrs. McCartney enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and traveling.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis, Ashland, Mike, West Linn, and Tim, Carson, Calif.; a daughter, Mary Casper, Lincoln, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Pat.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

William `Bill' Bolan

The memorial service for William Thomas "Bill" Bolan will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Hull & Hull Chapel in Grants Pass. The Rev. Todd Molinari will officiate.

Mr. Bolan, 78, of Grants Pass, died Monday (March 29, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Josephine County, P.O. Box 5625, Grants Pass, OR 97528 or to the National Parks and Conservation Association, 1776 Massachusetts Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036.

He was born July 20, 1920, in Overton, Neb.

On Feb. 9, 1947, in Las Vegas, he married Jean McCoy, who survives.

Mr. Bolan was a wholesale beauty supplies salesman in San Diego and Imperial Valley, Calif., retiring in 1984. He lived in San Diego for more than 40 years before moving to Minnesota. He moved to Grants Pass in 1995 from Deer River, Minn.

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 49 years and was a speaker for the group.

Mr. Bolan attended St. Anne's Catholic Church.

He enjoyed gardening, golf, fishing and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Patrick, Grants Pass, Timothy, Spokane, Wash., Thomas, Manhattan, Mont., and James, Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Violet Eleanor Cope

The memorial service for Violet Cope will be at 7 p.m. today in Richard Street Christian Church in Casper, Wyo. A dinner will follow the service at the church.

Mrs. Cope, 94, of Casper, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (March 27, 1999) at Wyoming Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Street Christian Church Children's Program, 2200 Richard St., Casper, WY 82601.

She was born Violet Grew on Sept. 7, 1904, in Independence, Kan.

On Feb. 17, 1921, in Okmulgee, Okla., she married James B. Cope, who died in 1985. They lived in Medford for many years.

Mrs. Cope was a homemaker.

She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Fuhrer, Casper; four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Arrangements: Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory, Casper.
