James H. Harmon

The graveside service for James H. Harmon will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Harmon, 77, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (Feb. 4, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Tecumseh, Okla. On Aug. 2, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas, he married Bessie A. Barnes, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1955.

Mr. Harmon was a cement contractor for 35 years until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded a Silver Star, a Purple Heart and a bronze arrowhead.

He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Harlen Lee, Eagle Point; a brother, Raymond Gene, Houston, Texas; two sisters, Louaine Roberittia, Phoenix, Ariz., and Beulah Johnson, Houston; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Colby H., and a sister, Virginia Overton.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Miles Douglas Remaley

The graveside service for Miles Douglas Remaley will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point. The Rev. I. Marion Clarkson will officiate.

Mr. Remaley, of Trail, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at his home.

He was born July 10, 1936, in Brooklyn, N.Y. On Jan. 3, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Mary Mercado, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from Riverside, Calif.

Mr. Remaley worked as a self-employed insurance broker in Corona, Calif., for many years. He retired in 1994.

He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include two sons, Brant, Trail, and Douglas, Corona, Calif.; two brothers, Tom, New York, and Steven, San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Saint Elmo Bewley

The funeral for Saint Elmo Bewley will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Conger-Morris chapel. Graveside service will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Bewley, of Phoenix, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at his home.

He was born Sept. 4, 1912, in Kosmodale, Ky. On Nov. 15, 1938, in Lordsburg, N.M., he married Mary Martin, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley a year ago from Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Mr. Bewley retired in 1977 after 43 years with McCloud Lumber Co. in McCloud, Calif.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and International Order of Oddfellows.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and flying model planes and kites he built.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Margaret Fitzhugh, Salmon, Idaho; four grandchildren, 11 grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Christopher, Richard and Wilber, and one sister.

Friends may pay their respects from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Conger-Morris.

Roy Pyle

The memorial service for Roy Pyle will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in Medford. The Rev. Tim Tiffany of First Christian Church and his brother-in-law, Tom Shelton of Powell Butte, will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Pyle, 88, of Medford, died Monday (Feb. 1, 1999) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 1900 Crater Lake Avenue, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 12, 1910, in Spirit Lake, Idaho.

On Nov. 5, 1932, in La Grande, he married Vesta Lorena Brown, who died in 1997.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1950.

Mr. Pyle worked in a sawmill when he and his wife were first married, then worked in construction and as a baker for Fluer's Bakery in Medford. He later worked for Tucker Sno-Cat until his retirement.

Mr. Pyle was a Boy Scout leader and a member of First Christian Church in Medford.

Survivors include two brothers, Donald Pyle, Salem, and Lynn Pyle, Kailua, Ha.; and four sisters, Ruby Shelton, Powell Butte, Frances Younger, Corvallis, Grace Hoopes, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Lenore Dockweiler, Beaumont, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a son, LeRoy Pyle, in 1955.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

`Brownie' Brown Jr.

The graveside service for Ives "Brownie" Lyman Brown Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. The Rev. Earl Best of Ruch Community Bible Church will officiate.

Mr. Brown, 93, of Applegate, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Applegate Lions Club, P.O. Box 3256, Applegate, OR 97530.

He was born June 24, 1905, in Boerne, Texas.

On July 27, 1924, in Tustin, Calif., he married Lyla Kelly, who died in 1980.

Mr. Brown was a deputy sheriff for 13 years in Orange County, Calif.

With his brother-in-law he operated a beekeeping business, summering the bees in Cedar City, Utah.

After moving to the Rogue Valley in 1943 from Tustin, he owned and operated a dairy farm, raising registered Brown Swiss cattle.

Mr. Brown was a member of the Masons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, vegetable and flower gardening and traveling. He also carried on a long family tradition of making smoked link sausage.

Survivors include two daughters, Dona Baize, Applegate, and Phyllis Ehrk, Wolsey, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Ayers in 1995; three brothers, George, Clarence and Lee; six sisters, Iva Heil, Helen Duncan, Edna Marks, Lizzie Haven, Ruth Crafts and Mamie Crawford; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

Edgar William Keyes

Edgar William Keyes, 79, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Feb. 4, 1999) at Highland House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 27, 1919, in Sherman, Texas.

Mr. Keyes attended schools in Whitesboro and Sherman, Texas. He also attended the University of California, Los Angeles.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in India and China.

On Sept. 10, 1969, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., he married Ruth E. James, who survives. They lived in Northridge and Camarillo, Calif., before moving to Grants Pass in 1990.

Mr. Keyes was a food service equipment representative for 30 years before retiring in 1989.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Cheryl Keyes, Las Vegas; a stepson, Clifton James, Montclair, Calif.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

Kenneth William Kunkel

Kenneth William Kunkel, 77, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 3, 1999) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in Fayetteville, Ark.

On May 24, 1941, in Las Vegas, he married Lois Maxine Fulwider, who survives. They moved to Medford in 1995 from California.

Mr. Kunkel was a truck driver and welder.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European Theater.

He enjoyed woodworking and metal work.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Tana Schandoney, Medford, and Jan Martin, Jacksonville; two granddaughters; and two great-granddaughters.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford, Medford.

Donald D. Grosch

The memorial service for Donald D. Grosch will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Chapel in Medford. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Grosch, 74, of Medford, died Wednesday (Feb. 3, 1999) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504 or Eagle Point Community Bible Church Youth Group, P.O. Box 197, Eagle Point, OR 97524.

He was born Oct. 3, 1924, in Spokane, Wash.

On Sept. 12, 1971, in Eagle Point, he married Doris R. Hickson, who survives. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Richmond, Calif., in 1960.

Mr. Grosch worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. for 25 years. He then worked for the Veterans Affairs Domiciliary in White City for 15 years, retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Grosch was a member of Eagle Point Community Bible Church and the Eagle Point Grange.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Donna E. Carey, Sacramento, Calif; and a sister, Phyllis Machado, Minden, Nev.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
