Dakota Daniel Leyva

The memorial service for Dakota Daniel Leyva will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Rogue Valley Fellowship, 2373 S. Pacific Highway, Medford. Pastor Ron Ashpole will officiate.

Dakota, infant son of Marcelo Leyva and Christina Halliday of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 13, 1998) in Medford.

He was born Aug. 27, 1998, in Medford.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two sisters, McKenzie Leyva and Olivia Miller, both of Medford; and grandparents, Patricia Halliday and Douglas Christlieb, both of Palmdale, Calif., and Lionel Leyva, Medford, and Barbara Hamilton, Valdes, Alaska.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Nicole Alice Phinney

The funeral for Nicole Alice Phinney will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hull & Hall Chapel in Grants Pass. Pastor Wes Winn will officiate.

Nicole, 17, of Grants Pass, died Thursday (Dec. 3, 1998) at Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland.

She was born Oct. 6, 1981 in San Jose, Calif. She attended Grants Pass High School.

Nicole was an inspiration to others. Her sense of humor aided her in counseling other cancer patients like herself, and helped her bravely fight her illness for the last three years.

Nicole enjoyed basketball, crafts, reading and writing letters.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Sharon and Larry Kier, Grants Pass; her father, Terry Phinney, San Jose, Calif.; a sister, Colleen Morazan, San Jose, Calif.; grandparents, Marie Harding, Lincoln, Maine; Sam and Alice Alesse, San Jose, Calif.; and John Rubio, Hayward, Calif.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Hazel B. Williams

The memorial service for Hazel Bernice Williams will be at noon Sunday in the Medford First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff will officiate.

Mrs. Williams, 84, of Medford, died Nov. 20, 1998 at her home.

She was a longtime member of the church and sang in the choir for 43 years.

Donald M. Stribling

The memorial service for Donald M. Stribling will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Talent Friends Church, 50 Talent Ave., Talent.

Mr. Stribling, 74, of Talent, died Monday (Dec. 7, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Talent Friends Church, Roofing Fund, 50 Talent Ave., Talent, OR 97540, or the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1924, in Eldon, Iowa.

On June 21, 1952, in Sacramento, Calif., he married Irene Edlund, who survives.

Mr. Stribling was employed by Pacific Bell and Northwest Bell Telephone Company. He retired after 35 years of service.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.

Mr. Stribling enjoyed fishing, camping, bird-watching and reading.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Richard, Steven, and Scott, all Medford, and Donald, Davenport, Iowa; two daughters, Kathi A. Kathol, Grants Pass, and Nancy S. Hill, Fair Oaks, Calif.; two brothers, Charles, Fresno, Calif., and Paul, Davenport, Iowa; a sister, Pauline W. Burrows, Eldon; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, one brother and two granddaughters.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Ida O. Peterson

The funeral service for Ida O. Peterson will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, in Perl Funeral Service-Siskiyou Chapel. The Rev. Robert Larson of Ascension Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Peterson, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 5, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Ida O. Hatleli on May 31, 1918 in Lanesboro, Minn.

On March 31, 1937, in Albert Lea, Minn., she married Reuben Petersen, who died in 1990. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Anchorage, Alaska in 1975.

Mrs. Peterson was the president of the Retail Clerks Union Local No. 1496 in Anchorage.

She held many offices with the Sons of Norway, of which she was an active member. She was also a charter member of the Oriental Shrine in Anchorage.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, Ronald Peterson, Alamo, Calif.; a daughter, Sandra Farmer, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Ernest Nesheim, Burr Oak, Iowa; two sisters, Gladys Roraus, Sebastopol, Calif. and Ella Terry, Pioneer, Calif.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Nelson, Mabel Thompson, and Olia Olsen; and seven brothers, Neil Hatleli, Lester Hatleli, Melvin Hatleli, Carl Hatleli, Martin Hatleli, Oscar Hatleli, and Otto Nesheim.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel.

Brenda Hanscom-Shue

The graveside service for Brenda L. Hanscom-Shue will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pastor Elliott Loveland of Talent Bible Church will officiate.

Mrs. Hanscom-Shue, 36, of Medford, died Sunday (Dec. 6, 1998) at Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She suffered from Anticardiolipin (antibody disease).

She was born Brenda Leah Hanscom on Nov. 27, 1962 in Medford, a daughter of James and Nelda Hanscom.

Mrs. Hanscom-Shue graduated from Phoenix High School in 1981, and lived in the Rogue Valley all her life.

In 1983, in Medford, she married Raymond Shue, who survives.

Mrs. Hanscom-Shue was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She enjoyed hiking, fishing and camping.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her parents, James and Nelda Hanscom, Talent; and a sister, Cindy Coush, Talent.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Cyrilla Grace Haley

Cyrilla Grace Haley, 86, of Talent, died Saturday (Dec. 5, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned.

She was born Cyrilla Grace Garcia on Sept. 2, 1912, in Maui, Hawaii.

On June 20, 1943, in Asbury Park, N.J., she married Richard T. Haley, who died in 1989.

Mrs. Haley lived on the forks of the Salmon River in Northern California for 25 years. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Southern California in 1970.

Mrs. Haley was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Roberta Heffner, Talent, and Susan McDonald, Escondido, Calif.; a son, David Haley, McKinleyville, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Jilda `Jill' S. Crandall

The memorial service for Jilda "Jill" Susan Crandall will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford.

Ms. Crandall, 42, formerly of Medford, died Nov. 29, 1998 in Eureka, Calif., where she was living.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Association of Oregon, 3330 N.W. Yeon, Portland, OR 97210.

She was born June 6, 1956 in Medford, a daughter of William Edwin Crandall and Alta (Jennings) Crandall.

Survivors include a son, Ely Aaron Davis, Eureka, Calif.; two daughters, Dawn Roland, Eureka, and Autumn Roland, Florida; two brothers, Douglas and Roger Crandall, both of Central Point; and a sister, Sandra Lee Crandall, Portland.

Arrangements: Pierce Mortuary Chapels/Pierce Chapel, Eureka.

Charles H. Sibley

Charles H. Sibley, 67, formerly of Medford, died on Nov. 28, 1998 in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was living. No service is planned.

He was born on April 11, 1931, in Bangor, Maine.

On Aug. 30, 1966, in Fresno, Calif., he married Virginia Doran, who survives.

Mr. Sibley was a police officer with the motorcycle division of the Fresno Police Department for six years. After moving to the Rogue Valley in 1966, he served as chief of police with both the City of Central Point, and the City of Phoenix.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the Air National Guard with the rank of senior master sergeant.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Lynda Nadeau, Dixmont, Maine, and Lisa Lisius, Farmington Falls, Maine; a stepson, Michael Doran, Medford; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles David Sibley, in 1987.

Arrangements: Witzelben Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Anchorage.

Morgan Hugh Chadwick

The memorial service for Morgan Hugh Chadwick will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Ash of West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mr. Chadwick, 84, of Phoenix, died Sunday (Dec. 6, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born on May 3, 1914, in LaGrande.

On June 21, 1940, in Edgewater, Colo., he married Dorothy P. Rahder, who survives.

Mr. Chadwick worked in the customer service department of the gas company in Long Beach, Calif.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Mira Loma, Calif.

Mr. Chadwick was a member of Moose Lodge No. 128 in Medford.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Barbara Hanlin, Medford; a brother, John, Phoenix; a sister, Margaret Lantzy, Denver, Colo.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, in 1961, and a brother, George.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.
