Bernice `Ben' Deatherage

The memorial service for Bernice Benson "Ben" Deatherage will be Thursday at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

Mr. Deatherage, 82, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 1998) in Cottage Grove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ben Deatherage Memorial Scholarship Fund, Centennial Bank, 625 Gibbs Ave., Cottage Grove, OR 97424.

He was born June 24, 1916, near Holbert, Okla.

On Oct. 18, 1948, in Roseburg, he married Ethel Harrison, who survives. They lived in Southern Oregon before moving to Cottage Grove in 1962.

Mr. Deatherage was an automotive electrician for United Electric and Bohemia Lumber Co. before retiring in 1981.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps 4th Squadron, 1st Combat Cargo Group in the China-Burma-India Theater.

Mr. Deatherage was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hump Pilots Association and the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed growing rhododendrons, traveling to military reunions and writing. A book about his early life was published recently.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Marie Deatherage, Portland, and Sarah Koss, Longview, Wash.; two sons, Curt and Denny, both Cottage Grove; two sisters, Arnelle Charters, Ashland, and Margie Nugent, Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, J.B., Kennewick, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Deatherage was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert.

Arrangements: Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.

Mamie Lone Bear

Mamie Lone Bear, 98, of Central Point, died Friday (Nov. 13, 1998) at her home. Services will be held in Nevada.

She was born Mamie Charley on July 4, 1900, in Alpine, Nev.

Mrs. Lone Bear moved to the Rogue Valley 30 years ago.

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking and crocheting.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Looff, Central Point, and Maybelle Steve, Fallen, Nev.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Lone Bear; a son; three brothers; and a sister.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Beverly Annette Fields

Beverly Annette Fields, 58, of Medford, died Friday (Nov. 13, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.

She was born Beverly Lewis on May 10, 1940, in Chinook, Wash.

Ms. Fields moved to the Rogue Valley from Coos Bay in 1990.

She enjoyed sewing quilts, canning, baking bread and collecting seashells and driftwood.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Tappin, Phoenix; a son, Tom, Donald, of Oregon; her parents, Preston and Ann Lewis, Phoenix; four sisters, Cherie Yunkherr, Vikki Skaggs and Peggy Cardinal, all of Medford, and Trudy Dunlap, Mill City; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Dexter L. Jordan in 1990 and Jon Fields in 1991.

Clinton `Red' Horton

The graveside service for Clinton O. "Red" Horton will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, Medford. Pastor Bud Coffman will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Horton, 80, of Medford, died Saturday (Nov. 14, 1998) at his home.

He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Phillips, Mo.

On March 5, 1939, in Miami, Texas, he married Allene D. Hendrix, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 50 years ago from Pampa, Texas.

Mr. Horton worked 34 years for Elk Lumber and Boise Cascade, retiring in 1980.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 42nd Rainbow Division in Europe.

He was a 40-year member of the First Assembly of God and served on its deacon board of directors, and a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church for the past eight years.

He enjoyed trips to Texas, gardening, fishing, working around the church and helping others.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include five daughters, Linda G. Thomas, Janice M. Stelle and Alma I. Adamson, all Medford, Delores A. Atkins, White City, and Dorothy J. Herbstruth, Klamath Falls; three brothers, Robert "Red" and Eugene, both Pampa, and Ora, Albuquerque, N.M.; four sisters, Mable Oaks, Grand Junction, Marble Provine, Pampa, Evelyn Henry, Lefors, Texas, and Alma Wade, Edmond, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lee Horton; three brothers, Dillard, Lee and Ray Horton; and a sister, Eunice Ratcliff.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

J. Lee Davis

The funeral service for J. Lee Davis will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Siskiyou Chapel, Perl Funeral Service. Pastor Bud Coffman of Lighthouse Penetcostal Church of God will officiate. A private interment ceremony will follow at the Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point.

Mr. Davis, 87, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at Farmington Square Assisted Living Center, Medford.

He was born Dec. 19, 1910 in Clarksville, Texas. On June 23, 1961, in Rubidoux, Calif., he married the former Elsie Christine Norris, who survives.

Mr. Davis moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975 from Prescott, Ariz. He was active in his church and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Fred of Checotah, Okla., Chester of Sisters, Ore.; two daughters, Vivian Gentry of Baltimore, Md., and Evelyn Eliakis of Las Vegas, Nev.; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, a son and a granddaughter.

Michael E. Juenger

Michael Eugene Juenger, 46, of Eagle Point, died Oct. 30, 1998, at his home. No service is planned.

He was born June 20, 1952, in East St. Louis, Ill. He moved to the Rogue Valley from Tacoma, Wash. in 1992.

On July 6, 1991, in Medford, he married Joan Kiscoan, who survives.

Mr. Juenger, a printer, worked in the printing business most of his life.

He enjoyed doing volunteer work for Glenn D. Hale Elementary School in Eagle Point, and caring for the stray cats in his neighborhood.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a brother, Bill, St. Louis, Mo.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Marvin B. Carver

The funeral for Marvin Benjamin Carver will be at 1 p.m. today at Rogue Valley Community Church, 623 Pine St., Rogue River. The Rev. Dick Kelso of Rogue Valley Community Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point.

Mr. Carver, 75, of Rogue River, died Friday (Nov. 13, 1998) at his home.

He was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Rodney, Iowa.

On Nov. 24, 1991, in Rogue River, he married Sharon Walker, who survives.

Mr. Carver enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and lapidary work.

After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, he was a truck driver and roofer.

He lived in the Rogue Valley 14 years, after moving from Spokane, Wash.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Dawn Hamilton, Rogue River, Carmita Schwab, Spokane, Mitzi Burroughs and Deborah Dillow, both of Bellevue, Neb.; two sons, Dan and Mike, both of Spokane, Wash.; 26 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marvin B. Carter, in 1985, a daughter, Virginia Selpp, in 1994, and a grandson in 1992.

Jocie M. Probst

The funeral for Jocie Marla Probst will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, 133 N. Main St., Dorris, Calif. The Rev. Gerald Austin of First Baptist Church will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Picard Cemetery, Dorris.

Mrs. Probst, 80, of Medford, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at home.

She was born Jocelyn Marla Tunnell Aug. 24, 1918, in Klamath Falls.

On July 3, 1939, in Price, Utah, she married John A. Probst, who survives.

Mrs. Probst lived in the Rogue Valley since 1963, after moving from Klamath Falls.

She worked in child care for 10 years, and retired in 1975.

Mrs. Probst enjoyed animals, birds, her dog and aerobic exercise. She was a member of the Women's Christian League.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Lori Ann Alred, Central Point; three sons, John E., Rowland Heights, Calif., Richard L., Montague, Calif., and Robert W., Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Don Tunnell, Darby, Mont.; two sisters, Estella Herrington, Dorris, Calif., and Louise Dawson, Klamath Falls; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
