Robert James Lyons

The memorial service for Robert James Lyons will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Wilson's Chapel of the Roses, Roseburg. Chaplain James Osborne will officiate.

Mr. Lyons, 62, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Nov. 2, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1122 N.W. Garden Valley Blvd., No. 109, Roseburg, OR 97470.

He was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Medford, a son of Leonard and Emily Ann Brighton Lyons.

He grew up and attended schools in Medford.

Mr. Lyons worked several years with Mayfair grocery stores, then began a career with Reser Fine Foods that spanned more than 25 years.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a story or joke to fit any occasion.

Survivors include a son, Robert S., Vancouver, Wash.; a daughter, Molly Peterson, Canby; seven sisters, Cloie Martin, Evelyn Bryant, Florence Shores and Ellen Gifford, all Medford, Betty Orr, White City, Billie Hueners, Portland, and Ruth Kelso, Eugene; two brothers, Gerry, Junction City, and John, Coos Bay; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Wilson's Chapel of the Roses.

Iris Lorraine Murphy

Iris Lorraine Murphy, 83, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. A private service was held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Reseda, 18120 Saticoy St., Reseda, CA 91335.

She was born Iris Lorraine Hatch on May 31, 1915, in Coin, Iowa.

On Nov. 18, 1934, in Coin, she married Richard Lowell Murphy, who died in 1981.

Mrs. Murphy was director of religious education for the Reseda First United Methodist Church until her retirement.

She was a teacher in early childhood and youth development and directed youth teams to Israel.

Mrs. Murphy was active in the First United Methodist Church in Ashland and Van Nuys, Calif., United Methodist Women, P.E.O. Sisterhood and Beta Sigma Phi.

Survivors include a son, Michael, Ashland; a brother, Sidney Hatch, Coin; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Alta Isabelle Bullock

The memorial service for Alta Isabelle Bullock will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford. Elder Henry Zollbrecht of the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bullock, 96, of Medford, died Oct. 28, 1998, at Farmington Square.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church, Building Project, 3677 S. Stage Road, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Alta Isabelle Nelson on Dec. 1, 1901, in Denmark, Mich.

On Oct. 22, 1918, in Michigan, she married Harold W. Bullock, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Bullock was a cook for the Phoenix School District.

She moved to the Rogue Valley 34 years ago from Portland.

Mrs. Bullock enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include a son, William; a daughter, Margaret Rodgers; four sisters, Frances Gallert, Bernice Sweet, Gladys Higgins, and Ellis Wildenberg; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a daughter, Marion Bullock; four brothers; a sister; a granddaughter; and a great-grandchild.

Laura May Tipton

Laura May Tipton, 77, of White City, died Saturday (Oct. 31, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of the Nazarene, 1974 E. McAndrews Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Laura May Foster on Sept. 5, 1921, in Medford, a daughter of Carl and Mary Spencer Foster.

On July 22, 1944, in Medford, she married Dewey D. Tipton, who survives.

Mrs. Tipton belonged to a Rogue Valley pioneer family. Her grandfather drove the stagecoach from Mount Shasta to Jacksonville.

Spencer Creek near Gold Hill is named after her grandfather.

Mrs. Tipton was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Tom and Don, both Eagle Point; a brother, Dick Foster, Brookings; a sister, Shirley Griffith, Central Point; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Dorland Terrill Matheny

Dorland Terrill Matheny, 77, of Jacksonville, died Monday (Nov. 2, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born July 22, 1921, in Jacksonville, a daughter of Glen L. and Delpha Coleman Terrill.

On July 5, 1941, in Medford, she married Paul R. Matheny, who survives.

Mrs. Matheny worked in the Jackson County Assessor's Office at the courthouse. She also was postmaster of the Jacksonville Post Office.

She enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Dale Robert, Gold Hill; a daughter, Carla Jo Matheny, Jacksonville; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

James Henry Bell

The memorial service for James Henry Bell will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery. The Rev. Emmett Shortreed of the Medford First United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mr. Bell, 75, of Central Point, died Sunday (Nov. 1, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501 or the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219.

He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Red Lodge, Mont.

On Aug. 15, 1944, in Billings, Mont., he married Doris Sconfienza, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Libby, Mont.

Mr. Bell was a powderman for the construction company Matauge and Halverson, working in Oregon, California and Washington until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Laborers Union in Bend.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Bell enjoyed trips to Reno, fishing and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Diana Bell, Central Point, Sandra Miller and Marie Bell, both Springfield, and Sharon Stevens, Madera, Calif.; two sons, James, Veneta, and Byron, Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Marie Steinmasel, Renton, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy L. Tobiasson

The memorial service for Dorothy L. Tobiasson will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 111 Clay St., Ashland. Interment will be in the Logandale, Nev., Cemetery.

Mrs. Tobiasson, 82, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Nov. 3, 1998) at her home.

She was born Dorothy Seckinger on Oct. 26, 1916, in Edgerton, Kan.

On Feb. 14, 1934, in Nevada, she married Delbert Tobiasson, who survives.

Mr. Tobiasson was active in the Relief Society, Stake and Ward Primary Organization, Stake Mission and Genealogical Name Extraction program. She was a member of Rogue Valley Genealogical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Mrs. Tobiasson was known for her homemade pies. She enjoyed making hand-crafted items, including patchwork and appliqued quilts, afghans, doilies, and stuffed animals; and also enjoyed needlepoint.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Evan S., Phoenix, Joseph N., Ashland, D. Corwin, Turner, and L. Jack, Provo, Utah; two daughters, Loya J. Elbert, White City, and Lorna K. Carter, Yreka, Calif.; two brothers, Ralph E. Seckinger, Topeka, Kan., and Dwayne P. Seckinger, Burney, Calif.; two sisters, Maudie G. Dennis, St. George, Utah, and Ethel L. Meek, Burney, Calif.; 29 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rowena Verlee Tobiasson; and a son, Robert Dwayne.

Ralph Owen Delay

The graveside service for Ralph Owen Delay will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Delay, 73, of Grants Pass, died Friday (Oct. 30, 1998) at Royale Garden Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Denver, Colo.

During World War II, he served as a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Delay moved to Grants Pass in 1947 from California.

Mr. Delay was a carpenter in Grants Pass for Clark Cummings, Kellenbeck and others.

On June 10, 1950, in Sutherlin, he married Shirley F. Capron, who survives.

Mr. Delay enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Jay Blendell, Michael and Daniel, all Grants Pass; three sisters, Edith Spargo and Helen West, both Grants Pass, and Dorothy Baird, Winston; a brother, Darrel; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Society, Grants Pass.
