Jack Loser

John "Jack" Christopher Loser, 84, of Medford, died Sunday (Oct. 4, 1998) at his home. A private service will be held later.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Jan. 1, 1914, in Pondera, Idaho.

On Oct. 22, 1955, in Reno, Nev., he married Wilma B. Gooden, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1983 from Klamath Falls.

Mr. Loser was manager of the Klamath Falls Elks Lodge for 15 years. He worked at the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Mill in Klamath Falls for 11 years, retiring in 1979.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Loser was a life member of the Elks Lodge, in Havre, Mont., and the Moose Lodge in Juneau, Alaska.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two stepsons, Robert A. Flora, Medford, and James Flora, Eugene; a brother, Robert J., Great Falls, Mont.; a sister, Mary Alfano, Oroville, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Three brothers preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Sandra Lee Shambaugh

Sandra Lee Shambaugh, 39, Central Point, died Wednesday (Oct. 7, 1998) of cancer at home. No service is planned.

She was born Sandra Lee Stollings on June 30, 1959, in Nice, France. She moved to the United States in 1977, and graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in social services.

Survivors include: a daughter, Tessa Shambaugh; a son, Derik Shambaugh; her mother, Christine Jampy, of France; a brother, Sidney Stollings, Central Point; and a grandmother.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Helen Rombach-Johnson

The memorial Mass for Helen K. Rombach-Johnson will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford. The Rev. Ray Elam will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.

Mrs. Rombach-Johnson, 70, of Phoenix, died Friday (Oct. 9, 1998) at her home.

She was born Helen Whitaker on March 15, 1928, in Toledo.

In 1949, in Toledo, she married Charles D. Rombach, who preceded her in death.

In 1984, in Vancouver, Wash., she married Bert M. Johnson, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Rombach-Johnson moved to Oregon in 1994 from Arizona.

She enjoyed gardening, fishing and boating.

Survivors include three sons, Timothy Rombach, Phoenix; Donald Rombach, Temperance, Mich., and Michael Rombach, Onstead, Mich.; two sisters, Margaret Liedigk, Pasco, Wash., and Irene Szolosi, Toledo, Ohio; and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

`Banjo Man' Salmon Sr.

Keith E. "Banjo Man" Salmon, Sr., 90, died Friday (Oct. 9, 1998) at Medford Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born June 4, 1908 in Carthage, S.D., the son of John and Sarah Salmon.

On June 8, 1935, in Prairie Du Chien, Wisc., he married Marcella Crawford, who survives. They moved to Jacksonville in 1973 from Crescent City, Calif.

Mr. Salmon was a logger. He was known as the "Banjo Man" for playing music in hospitals, nursing homes and foster care homes since 1973. For over 20 years, he donated thousands of hours of community service through the Senior Volunteers of America.

He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Central Point.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Keith Jr., Grants Pass; a daughter, Lorraine Dunning, Roseburg; two brothers; two sisters; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Bernice Irene Garrison

Bernice Irene Garrison, 81, of Medford, died Friday (Oct. 9, 1998) at her home. A private service will be held.

She was born Dec. 23, 1916, in Harrisburg, Penn.

On Jan. 3, 1937, she married Oakie Garrison, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Garrison enjoyed gardening, making dolls and quilts, household hobbies and flower arranging.

Survivors include a son, Robert Garrison, Medford; two daughters, Dorothy Hutton, Medford, and Diane Tharp, Eagle Point; six grandchildren; 11 great-granchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Conger-Morris, Medford.

Helen Rombach-Johnson

Samuel W. Beck

Samuel W. Beck, 69, of Prospect, died Thursday (Oct. 8, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Salina, Kan., and moved with his family to Prospect in 1930.

On Nov. 6, 1950, in Woodland, Wash., he married Florence Mary Tisdale, who survives.

Before his retirement, Mr. Beck worked on the Alaska Pipeline as a service oiler for the Alyeska Oil Co.

Mr. Beck was one of the first river guides on the Rogue River.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Susan P. Stuart, Eagle Point, Mary R. Beck, Redmond, and Leann J. Beck, Brownsville; a son, S.J. "Jim," Oakland; three brothers, Don, Bay City, Bill Dougall, Beaverton, and Joe, Chesaw, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Sanders, Oakville, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry and Bob.

Ralph Franklin Wood

Ralph Franklin Wood, 82, of Medford, died Wednesday (Oct. 7, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.

He was born May 31, 1916, in Richmond, Mo.

On Sept. 25, 1937, in Los Angeles, he married Elsie C. Wood, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Los Angeles.

Mr. Wood was an automotive parts sales representative.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Kenneth and Robert, both Phoenix; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Edward C. Stenger Jr.

The memorial service for Edward Calvin Stenger Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Rogue Valley Christian Church, 1440 S. Oakdale Ave., Medford. Pastor James R. Larsen will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Stenger, 41, of Medford, died Monday (Oct. 5, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, OR 97501 or Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born July 28, 1957, in Great Falls, Mont.

Mr. Stenger moved to the Rogue Valley in 1969 from Ukiah, Calif.

He owned and operated Stenger Style Studio of White City.

Mr. Stenger was a member of the AIDS Foundation of Jackson County, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center of Ashland. He enjoyed entertaining friends and relatives.

Survivors include his companion, Dan Stevens, Medford; his mother, Margaret Stenger, Eagle Point; a brother, Pat Brophy, Missoula, Mont.; and a sister, Tammy Barlow, Mina, Nev. His father, Edward C., preceded him in death.
