Maree Ramsey

Maree Viola Ramsey, 74, of Phoenix, died Friday (Oct. 2, 1998) in Phoenix.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Mortuary with the Rev. Ray Elam of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mrs. Ramsey was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Peoria, Ill. On June 27, 1975, she married Tom Ramsey, who died in 1996.

She lived in Southern California for most of her life and was a hostess and manager for LaBrick Restaurant in Huntington Beach. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Arkansas three years ago.

She is survived by a daughter, Vivian Rush of Kokomo, Ind.; a son, Frank Hall of Marysville, Calif.; a brother, Frank Kern of Phoenix; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Hillcrest Mortuary.

Daniel F. Phillips

Daniel F. Phillips, 61, of Halsey, formerly of Rogue River, edied Monday (Sept. 28, 1998) at his daughter's home in Portland. Services were held in Halsey with interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.

He was born July 13, 1937, in Tucson, Ariz. After graduating from high school, he married Linda Coyne. They later divorced.

Mr. Phillips served two years in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne, returning to Tucson and then moving to Rogue River. He worked as a logger and surveyor. He enjoyed studying the King James version of the Bible.

Survivors include daughters Bernadette Peters of Gervais, Wendy Berry of Aurora and Kelly Helpner of Sauvie Island; son Tim of Newberg; brother Charles L. Jr. of Tucson; and 6 grandchildren.

Arrangements: DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel, Corvallis.

Harry S. `Jack' Stamper

The memorial service for Harry S. "Jack" Stamper will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Ashland.

Mr. Stamper, 78, of Ashland, died Wednesday (Sept. 30, 1998) at Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Old-Time Fiddlers Association District No. 4 in care of president Don Lindsey, 1400 Honeysuckle Lane, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Huntington, Va. In Salem, Va., he married his high school sweetheart, Viola Estelle Mowles, who survives.

Mr. Stamper worked in the U.S. Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va., and served in the U.S. Army transportation service during World War II. After the war, he continued to work in that agency in California.

He and his wife retired and moved to Ashland in 1975. He designed and built their home, was an avid reader and a member of the Old-Time Fiddlers Association. He also set up a small home winery.

Survivors include three sons, Richard of El Centro, Calif., Harry Jr. of North Bend and Thomas of Ashland; four daughters, Diane Stamper of Ashland, Patricia Howard of Oakland, Calif., Cynthia Geissler of Everett, Wash., and Jennifer Benson of San Rafael, Calif.; three brothers, Tom "Buck" of Ashland, John "Dip" of Leonard, Md., and James "Pete" of Salem, Va.; a sister, Kay Foster of Bixby, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Aina Alene Engstrom

The funeral for Aina Alene Engstrom will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church, Medford, with the Rev. David J. Rapp officiating. The graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Engstrom, 97, of Medford, died Thursday (Oct. 1, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born July 20, 1901, in Lawton, N.D. On May 25, 1932, in Minnesota, she married Carl R. Engstrom, who died in 1973.

She moved from Stinson Beach, Calif., to Happy Camp, Calif., where she lived until last June when she moved to Medford. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and painting.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia E. Bernard of Petaluma, Calif., and one granddaughter.

Robert B. Collier

Robert B. Collier, 82, died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) in an adult care facility in Terrebonne, Ore. Private services are planned.

He was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Coquille and raised in that area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and won a Bronze Star and other decorations for his service as a second lieutenant in the Pacific Theater.

He was a logger on the Oregon Coast and sales manager for South Coast Lumber Co., Brookings, for more than 20 years until his retirement. He moved to Central Oregon in 1990.

Mr. Collier was a charter member of the Elks Lodge in Brookings and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Liles of Medford; Kelly Collier-Hinds of Redmond and Kathy Thompson of Clear Lake, Calif.; his former wife, Patricia Collier of Brookings; his companion, Bertie Shollenberg of Medford; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Autumn Funerals, Redmond.

Hugh R. Blacketor

Hugh R. Blacketor, 85, of Medford, died Sept. 25, 1998, at Farmington Square. A private service was held. Retired pastors and longtime friends Robert Murphy and Ralph Bunting officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 330, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Aug. 28, 1913, in Rochester, Ind.

On June 4, 1939, in Santa Monica, Calif., he married Naomi R. Edmonston, who survives.

They moved to Grants Pass in 1947 from Santa Monica, settling in Medford in 1960.

Mr. Blacketor was part owner and operator of several plywood mills with B.D. Mitchell.

After his retirement, the Blacketors enjoyed golfing and traveling in their RV to Yuma, Ariz., where they spent the winter months.

He was a member of the American Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge and Rogue Valley Country Club.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Robert S., Sams Valley; a daughter, Penny Whitney, Pendleton; two sisters, both in Rochester; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Louise C. Taylor

The funeral for Louise C. Taylor will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow in the Hargadine Cemetery.

Mrs. Taylor, 90, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Sept. 29, 1998) at the Redding, Calif., Medical Center.

She was born Louise Freudenthaler on June 25, 1908, in Middleton, Idaho.

In April 1925, in Jacksonville, she married Irvin Taylor, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Taylor had lived in Jacksonville, Ashland and Yreka, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, Herbert, Central Point, and Arthur, Ashland; two daughters, Alma Harpham and Darlene Martin, both Redding; a sister, Merlee Brooks, Ashland; two brothers, Leo Freudenthaler, in Oregon, and Theo Freudenthaler, Norwalk, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. A son, Melvin, preceded her in death.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Peggy E. Maitrejean

Friends and relatives of Peggy Elaine Maitrejean will gather for a potluck meal to celebrate her life at 1 p.m. Saturday in Tom Pearce Park, Grants Pass.

Mrs. Maitrejean, 55, of Williams, died Tuesday (Sept. 29, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Peggy Randal on July 25, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif.

On April 27, 1963, in Costa Mesa, Calif., she married Ronald Maitrejean, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1973 from Orange County, Calif.

Mrs. Maitrejean owned Bookie's Bookkeeping & Tax Service in Grants Pass. Her daughter, Dawn Morton, will continue to operate the business.

She was a member of the Rogue Snowmobile Club of Southern Oregon and enjoyed horses and her wildlife collection.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, Chris, Grants Pass, and Ronald L., Williams; two daughters, Dawn Morton, Grants Pass, and Lori Hunn, Williams; two sisters, Kay Gragg, Grants Pass, and Susan Wennerstrom, Goleta, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

A granddaughter preceded her in death.

Perry David Sneed

The cryptside service for Perry David Sneed will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford. Pastor Bob Gass of Harvest Baptist Church will officiate.

Mr. Sneed, 86, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 30, 1998) in a local foster care home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born July 11, 1912, in Blackwell, Texas.

On Nov. 1, 1936, in Del Rio, Texas, he married Era M. Patterson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley 13 years ago from Texas.

Mr. Sneed owned and operated a road construction business until his retirement.

He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and enjoyed collecting model cars, fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Perry Houston, Medford; a sister, Martha Jones, Arlington, Texas; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille and Mary; two brothers, Bill and Jay; and a great-grandson.

Friends may pay their respects from 3:30 to 5 p.m. today at Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
