Miriam Bent Johnson

The memorial service for Miriam Bent Johnson will be at 11 a.m. today at Rogue Valley Manor, Medford. The Rev. Don Hildenbrand will officiate.

Mrs. Johnson, 102, of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 11, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Manor Assistance Fund, Rogue Valley Manor, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Miriam Bent on July 19, 1896, in Hazard, Neb.

On June 24, 1920, in Lincoln, Neb., she married Henry H. Johnson, who died in 1974.

Mrs. Johnson lived in Riverside, Calif., from 1933 until moving to Santa Ana, Calif., in 1944. She moved to Rogue Valley Manor in 1976, where she was an active volunteer and gardener well into her 90s.

She was active in the Santa Ana First Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening and sewing.

Survivors include a son, Don, Ashland; a daughter, Ruth McDivitt, Bellevue, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Leonard; four sisters; and three brothers.

Russell James Ross

The memorial service for Russell James Ross will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Ross, 45, formerly of Medford, died Friday (Sept. 11, 1998) at his home in Reno, Nev.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219 or 5481.

He was born May 8, 1953, in Medford.

Mr. Ross was a heavy equipment operator for construction companies. He moved to Reno four years ago from Medford.

Mr. Ross served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his mother, Florence Doreen Blank, Nyssa; and two sisters, Annette Loehden and Sharon Mathias, both Reno. His father, Harold, died in 1987.

Arrangements: Northern Nevada Memorial Cremation & Burial Society, Reno.

Nellie A. Morris

Nellie A. Morris, 88, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Sept. 13, 1998) at her home. No local service is planned.

She was born Nellie Crowder on May 6, 1910, in Dog Canyon, N.M.

In 1928, she married Bert Morris, who preceded her in death.

During World War II, Mrs. Morris headed the parachute packing department at Biggs Air Field, Texas.

She lived in El Paso, Texas, until 1958.

Mrs. Morris was a barber after moving to Cloudcroft, N.M. She settled in the Rogue Valley in 1985.

Survivors include three daughters, Alice M. Orr, Rogue River, Shirley Jimenez, Whidbey Island, Wash., and Sylvian Gibson, El Paso; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Charles Roy Crumley

The graveside service for Charles "Chuck" Roy Crumley will be held Friday in the Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mr. Crumley, 51, of Medford, died Thursday (Sept. 10, 1998) at his home.

He was born March 31, 1947, in Centralia, Wash.

Mr. Crumley graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Crumley moved to the Rogue Valley three years ago from Pendleton.

He enjoyed stamp collecting.

Survivors include his mother, Marion Crumley, Springfield; and two sisters, Carolyn Priebe and Shirley Rees, both Springfield. His father, Virgil, preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Dora Beatrice McCoy

The graveside service for Dora Beatrice McCoy will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. Pastor John Wiuff of the Medford Church of God will officiate.

Mrs. McCoy, 91, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 12, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504 or American Lung Association, 9320 S.W. Barbur Blvd., Suite 140, Portland, OR 97219-5484.

She was born Dora Coleman on March 31, 1907, in North Bend.

On March 14, 1925, in Marshfield, she married Ralph McCoy, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. McCoy was a member of Medford Church of God, where she enjoyed volunteer activities.

Survivors include a son, Gordon G., Bend; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ethel Ford; three brothers; two sisters; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Adah Mae Ward

The memorial service for Adah Mae Ward will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Central Point Masonic Lodge. Members of Nevita Chapter 93, Order of Eastern Star will officiate. Interment will follow in Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Ward, 93, of Medford, died Saturday (Sept. 12, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Nevita Chapter No. 93, OES, Cancer Research Project, 3290 Freeland Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

She was born Adah Mae Webster on May 24, 1905, in Kearney, Neb.

In January 1954, in Boise, Idaho, she married John Franklin Ward, who died in 1983.

Mrs. Ward was a beautician for many years, owning and operating a salon in Boise.

She was a 52-year member and worthy matron of Nevita Chapter No. 93 OES; sang in the chorus and was a drill team member of Daughters of the Nile, Zuleima Temple No. 13; was a worthy high priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem; and a life member and royal matron of Roxy Ann Court, Amaranth. She also enjoyed camping at Fish Lake.

Survivors include a stepson, Dale Ward, Houston, Texas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Sheila Eckstein Joachims

The memorial service for Sheila Eckstein Joachims will be at 1 p.m. today in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass.

Mrs. Joachims, 60, of Williams, died Saturday (Sept. 12, 1998) at her home.

She was born Sheila Salvin in Feb. 13, 1938, in Boston, Mass.

She moved to Grants Pass in 1958 from Hyannis, Mass.

On March 26, 1977, in Grants Pass, she married Gene "Jock" Joachims, who survives.

Mrs. Joachims owned Antique Junction for many years.

She enjoyed garage sales, cooking and drawing.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Samantha Eckstein Rodrigues, Grants Pass; a son, Eric Eckstein, Portland; two stepsons, R. Leroy Joachims, Wilsonville, and Clifford Joachims, Williams; a stepdaughter, Mary Joachims, Medford; a sister, Ann Goldman, Redwood City, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

Ureth M. Parks

The memorial service for Ureth M. "Mammy" Parks will be held Saturday at Burns' Riverside Chapel in Florence.

Mrs. Parks, 92, formerly of Central Point, died Sept. 9, 1998, in Florence, where she was living.

She was born Ureth Grider on Aug. 18, 1906, in Westport, Calif.

On Feb. 25, 1938, in Willits, Calif., she married Forrest E. "Pappy" Parks, who survives. They lived in several California towns and moved to Florence 10 years ago from Central Point.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcella M. Carnes, Florence; a brother, Lee Grider, Florence; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; two step granddaughters; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Burns' Riverside Chapel, Florence Funeral Home.
