Naomi Mary Rogers

Naomi Mary Rogers, 73, of Eagle Point, died Wednesday (July 29, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Oregon Special Olympics, 33 N. Central Ave., Suite 203, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Naomi Collis on Sept. 14, 1924, in Northern Ontario, Canada.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1962 from Buffalo, N.Y.

On Feb. 27, 1965, in Ashland, she married Richard Rogers, who survives.

Mrs. Rogers worked in retail sales for 17 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Chapman, Eagle Point; a brother, David Collis, Eastern Ontario, Canada; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

LaVern Gordon Adams

The memorial service for LaVern Gordon Adams will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the family home. Pastor Lee Korner, a longtime friend, will officiate.

Mr. Adams, 84, of Central Point, died Saturday (July 25, 1998) at the Medford Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504 or American Heart Association, 10 Crater Lake Ave., Suite 10, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Loveland, Okla.

On March 18, 1935, in Kelso, Wash., he married Agda Lund, who survives.

While living in Vernonia, Mr. Adams and his father ran a store and meat market. He also served on the city council and the Boxing Commission. He was a partner in the Hobin Logging Company in Vernonia and later Sweet Home.

In 1955, he moved to Medford where he built and owned White City Box Co. Mr. Adams moved to Tumalo in 1958 to run his ranch there.

In 1961, he designed and implemented the first sprinkler irrigation system in Central Oregon.

Mr. Adams sold the ranch in 1964 and retired to Central Point.

In the early 1950s, one of his horses was champion parade horse of the Pacific Northwest.

Mr. Adams also enjoyed mining, fishing, woodworking and handcrafting and restoring old clocks.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Jerry G., Central Point; two daughters, Faye Merryman, Phoenix, and Verna McLeod, Central Point; a sister, Reba Hobin; three brothers, Archie, Jack and Robert; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lewis, Gloyd and Paul.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou, Medford.

Carl John Dambach

The memorial service for Carl John Dambach will be held Saturday at the Pala Mission in Pala, Calif.

Mr. Dambach, 72, of Merlin, died July 16, 1998, at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to International Order of Alhambra, Alhambra Charity Fund, 4200 Leeds Ave., Baltimore, MD 21229.

He was born Dec. 15, 1925, in Schuyler, Neb.

On June 7, 1987, in Carlsbad, Calif., he married Patricia Reynolds, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from Vista, Calif.

Mr. Dambach was an industrial engineer for 29 years with Hughes Aircraft, retiring in 1981.

Earlier he was a drummer in a band.

Mr. Dambach was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Grants Pass and Ben Ziri No. 218 Caravan in Alhambra. He enjoyed working on his motorhome.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Phil, Corona, Calif., Greg, Lake Forest, Calif., and Paul and Daniel, both Vista; three daughters, Lyn Sherman, Vista, Elaine Collins, Oceanside, Calif., and Ruth Ochs, Fallbrook, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Cynthia Pfeiffer, Tigard; four stepsons, John Reynolds, in California, Joseph Reynolds, in Michigan, Keith Reynolds, in Virginia, and Christopher Reynolds, in Texas; a brother, Phil, Lake Shasta, Calif.; two sisters, Pat Dambach, in California, and Mary P. Dambach; and 23 grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Ann Wald Greenquist

The funeral for Ann Wald Greenquist will be held Saturday at the Hanson Funeral Home in Racine, Wis.

Mrs. Greenquist, 91, formerly of Medford, died Thursday (July 30, 1998) at the Lincoln Village Convalescent Center in Sturtevant, Wis.

She was born Ann Johnson on April 19, 1907, in Racine.

Mrs. Greenquist was a homemaker.

She lived in Racine until moving to Medford in 1962.

In 1962, she married Glenn Greenquist, who died in 1987.

Mrs. Greenquist moved to Sturtevant from Medford in 1987.

She was a member of the Sturtevant Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Jancik, Nekoosa, Wis., and Nancy Reichert, Racine and Florida; a son, Les Wald, Sturtevant; a sister, Ruth Rieser, Racine; a brother, Peter Johnson, Racine; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lester Wald, in 1955; and two brothers, Roy and Russ Johnson.

Arrangements: Hanson Funeral Home, Racine.

Ann Leila Law Sletten

Anna Leila Law Sletten, 89, formerly of the Rogue Valley, died June 13, 1998, in Sparks, Nev.

A graveside service was held June 22 in the Galt-Arnos Cemetery in Galt, Calif. Her daughter, Jeanne Marie Peters officiated.

She was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Goldendale, Wash. She is a descendent of the McKee pioneer family, early settlers in old Log Town.

Mrs. Sletten was a Rogue Valley resident for much of her life.

On Aug. 11, 1926, in Sacramento, Calif., she married John Elias Sletten, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sletten graduated from Medford Business College and was a secretary for 18 years at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.

She was a self-taught Christian Scientist and a member of the original Medford First Church of Christ, Scientist, and later a member of the Third Church of Christ, Scientist in Sacramento.

When she was 4 years old her father, Fred Mansfield Law, who was known as "the mining poet" wrote the poem,"The Log Town Rose" in her honor. Adopted as official flower of the City of Phoenix, it still blooms by the roadside of Logtown Cemetery in Ruch.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Marie Peters, Ashland, and Mary Anne Cory, San Jose, Calif.; three sons, David John, Eugene, Ted Melford, Ridgefield, Wash., and Carl Elias, Galt; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: John Sparks Memorial, Sparks.

Walter Elmer Colpitts

The memorial service for Walter Elmer Colpitts will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Jackson House, 300 Suncrest Road, Talent. Inurnment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Yreka, Calif.

A private service will be held in Promise, Ore., on Memorial Day, 1999.

Mr. Colpitts, 85, of Talent, died Tuesday (July 28, 1998) at the Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Wallowa. His parents homesteaded in the Promise area of Wallowa County.

In the 1930s, in Enterprise, he married Idol Greenough, who died in 1973.

Mr. Colpitts spent his early years breaking horses and later owned and operated logging equipment, mainly in the Cave Junction area.

He moved to Ashland 23 years ago.

Mr. Colpitts enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and camping.

Survivors include a stepson, John Amy, Medford; a stepdaughter, Vivian Tallerico, Newark, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his companion of 20 years, Emma Amy, in 1992; two infant sons; and 10 siblings.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Don Wallace Johnson

The funeral for Don Wallace Johnson will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Central Valley Chapel, Central Point. Pastor Debra Lappure of the Central Point First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mr. Johnson, 66, of Central Point, died Sunday (July 26, 1998) at his home.

He was born July 13, 1932, in Covina, Calif.

Mr. Johnson moved to the Rogue Valley in 1947 from Covina.

He was supervisor of construction with US West for 30 years, retiring in 1985.

Mr. Johnson was president of the Communication Workers Association Union, Medford Local 9208. A charter member of the Eagles Lodge, he also was a member of the Talent Moose Lodge and the 700 Club. He enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling and Bible study.

Survivors include a son, William A., Central Point; four daughters, Vicky Kendall and Dawn Pendleton, both Central Point, Linda Plumlee, White City, and Elainee Ellison, Talent; a brother, William A., Central Point; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 to 4 p.m. today at Central Valley Chapel.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.
