Wayne E. Curtis

The graveside service for Wayne E. Curtis will be at 1 p.m. today in the Butte Falls Cemetery. The Rev. John Adams of Butte Falls Community Bible Church will officiate.

Mr. Curtis, 75, of Butte Falls, died Saturday (June 20, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Nov. 29, 1922, in Altus, Ark.

Mr. Curtis served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1958. Part of his overseas duty was in Saudi Arabia. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross and five air medals.

On. Jan. 30, 1960, in Las Vegas, he married Wanda Rhyne, who survives.

Mr. Curtis was a logger for 16 years with Medford Corp. in Butte Falls.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Wayne Jr. and Keith, both White City, and Michael O'Brien, Butte Falls; three daughters, Elizabeth McClusky, Springfield, and Deborah Thomas and Lori Holder, both Bakersfield, Calif.; a sister, Blanche Campbell, Butte Falls; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Suzanne O'Brien and Georgia Curtis; and a son, John O'Brien.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Gail Putnam Nutting

The memorial service for Gail Putnam Nutting will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. The Rev. Karen Crooch will officiate.

Mrs. Nutting, 41, of Grants Pass, died of cancer Saturday (June 20, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Newman United Methodist Church Choir, 132 N.E. B St., Grants Pass, OR 97526.

She was born Gail Putnam on July 4, 1956, in Grants Pass. She graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1974.

Mrs. Nutting worked for Southern Oregon Cable for a year and at Mini Pet Mart for 12 years, retiring as a manager.

She attended Newman United Methodist Church and was a member of Job's Daughters during high school.

Mrs. Nutting enjoyed horseback riding, flower gardening, crossword puzzles and crafts.

Survivors include a son, Jeromie Michael, Grants Pass; her parents, Ed and Nancy Putnam, Grants Pass; a sister, Debbie Washburn, Grants Pass; and grandfather, Lee Stansfield, Grants Pass. She was preceded in death by her husband of 13 years, Shawn Michael Nutting.

Arrangements: Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, Grants Pass.

E. Douglas Johnson

E. Douglas Johnson, 68, of Central Point, died Monday (June 22, 1998) at his home. A memorial service will be held in Dixon, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Sacramento, Calif.

On Nov. 11, 1978, in Lower Lake, Calif., he married Barbara Bettencourt, who survives.

Mr. Johnson was a retired carpenter.

He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Kitty May, Florence; a son, Jerry, Eagle River, Alaska; seven stepchildren; a brother, Elwood, Vallejo, Calif.; a sister, Faye McKim, Vallejo; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Jack Robert Meyers

Jack Robert Meyers, 84, of Medford, died Monday (June 22, 1998) at his home. No local service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born May 3, 1914, in Cleveland, Ohio.

Mr. Meyers married Linda Bell in Cleveland 61 years ago. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1982 from Los Angeles.

Mr. Meyers retired from Applied Biological Sciences in Glendale, Calif.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in California and volunteered for two years at St. Vincent DePaul in Medford. He also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Bruce, Central Point; and three grandchildren. A son, Jack Clayton, preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

L. Jean Whitney

L. Jean Whitney, 80, of Medford, died Sunday (June 21, 1998) at her home. Private interment was in the Logtown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Dialysis Services, Patient Trust Fund, 2868 Creekside Circle, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born L. Jean Walker on Oct. 20, 1917, in Nevada, Mo. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1923 from Claremore, Okla.

On Aug. 19, 1936, in Grants Pass, she married Lloyd W. Whitney, who survives.

Mrs. Whitney was a postmaster from 1952 to 1954. Later she was a bookkeeper for Walker Radio in Medford.

She was a member of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Martha Shepard, Medford; two sisters, Dorothy Hall, Newport, and Neva E. Dennision, Hemet, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Clinton; and a sister, Thelma Berryman.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Clarice M. Addison

The funeral for Clarice M. Addison will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford. The Rev. Mark Cach will officiate. Private interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Addison, 90, of Medford, died Friday (June 19, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Clarice M. Elliott on Nov. 21, 1907, in Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Addison attended school in Klamath Falls and graduated from the University of Oregon.

She was a longtime resident of Medford and Roseburg, where her husband, Deb Addison, was publisher and editor of the Roseburg News Review. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Addison was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Roseburg.

Survivors, include a son, Tom Spatz, Medford; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Parker; a brother, Harry Elliott; a sister, Florence Hovey; and two grandsons.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Kathleen M. Vaughn

Kathleen M. Vaughn, 51, of Shady Cove, died Sunday (June 21, 1998) at her home. A private service was held.

She was born Kathleen M. Roy on April 18, 1947, in Los Angeles, Calif.

She graduated from Phoenix High School.

On March 18, 1986, in Reno, she married William R. Vaughn, who survives.

Mrs. Vaughn worked in the food service industry.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Diane Williams, Detroit, Mich. She was preceded in death by a son, Derrick Williams; and a brother.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Richard F. Ditsworth

The memorial graveside service for Richard Franklin Ditsworth will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Jim Larsen of Rogue Valley Christian Church will officiate.

Mr. Ditworth, 81, of Talent, died Thursday (June 18, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

He was born May 21, 1917, in Medford, the son of Lewis and Violet Vaughn Ditsworth.

On July 29, 1939, in Yreka, Calif., he married Rose E. Briner, who survives.

Mr. Ditsworth worked in several lumber mills in his earlier years, including those in Prospect and Phoenix.

For 25 years he drove trucks for the Jackson County Roads Department and snowplows in the winter.

He was a member of the Star Promenaders square dance club and also enjoyed gardening and woodworking.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Glenda Bray, Central Point; two sons, Norman, Palmer, Alaska, and Wayne, Portland; a sister, Evelyn Walls, Portland; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A great-granddaughter preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary.
