Charlottie Elsie Hall

The graveside service for Charlottie Elsie Hall will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Stearns Cemetery in Talent. Pastor Wayne Osborne of Brookings will officiate.

Mrs. Hall, 77, of White City, died Monday (March 16, 1998) at her home.

She was born Charlottie Elsie Miller on Dec. 28, 1920, in Garden City, Kan. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1926. She graduated from Sams Valley School in 1938.

On May 12, 1942, in Medford, she married Leland Robert Hall, who survives. They lived in Coos Bay from 1966 to 1983, before returning to the Rogue Valley.

Mrs. Hall enjoyed flowers, gardening and crossword puzzles.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Michael, White City; a daughter, Suzann Davidson, Central Point; two sisters, Vesta Huffman, Medford, and Pearl Colvin, John Day; two brothers, Arling Miller, Eugene, and Walter Miller, Youngstown, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Central Valley Chapel, Central Point.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care.

Dale Eugene Hendrix

The funeral for Dale Eugene Hendrix, who was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action during the Vietnam War, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ludberg's L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass. Pastor Bob Wood of Redwood Christian Church will officiate. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the North San Juan Cemetery, North San Juan, Calif.

Mr. Hendrix, 47, of Grants Pass, died Sunday (March 15, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1972 with the 158th Aviation Battalion.

On July 21, 1969, Mr. Hendrix, a private first class, was a doorgunner on a Huey helicopter attempting to rescue a reconnaissance team near Hue when it came under intense automatic weapons fire. Mr. Hendrix's "accurate oppressive fire enabled the helicopter to hover above the pickup point. Hendrix moved forward to drop the extraction ropes to the soldiers below," then he returned to his post and "neutralized the advancing insurgents who were only 20 meters from the ground troops. Lowering clouds and nightfall complicated the operation, but Hendrix's oral directions to the pilot were invaluable in keeping the aircraft from striking the surrounding trees." He continued to provide information to the pilot as the helicopter was forced to fly at a very low level through the cloud-filled mountain passes.

Among his other medals is the Purple Heart.

Mr. Hendrix was born Jan. 17, 1951, in El Centro, Calif.

On June 22, 1968, in Reno, Nev., he married Patti Harlan, who survives. They moved to Grants Pass in 1994 from Nevada City, Calif.

He enjoyed Civil War history, camping and horses.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Shelly Frost and Gail Hendrix, both Citrus Heights, Calif.; and three grandsons.

Velma Ruth Gibson

Velma Ruth Gibson, 97, of Medford, died Sunday (March 15, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Home. Private inurnment will be in Island City.

She was born July 2, 1900, in Island City, on the Grande Ronde River in Union County.

Mrs. Gibson was a retired nurse.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from the San Francisco Bay area.

Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Arnold, Medford, and Barbara Kaufmann, Richmond, Calif.; a son, Ben E., Arvada, Colo.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Gibson.

Pauline Pellkofer

The funeral Mass for Pauline Pellkofer will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland. The Rev. Anthony Rosevear will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Rosary will be read at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Mrs. Pellkofer, 91, of Jacksonville, formerly of Ashland, died Monday (March 16, 1998) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, 987 Hillview Drive, Ashland, OR 97520.

She was born Pauline Walburga Gutsmiedl on Nov. 8, 1906, in Passau, Bavaria, Germany.

When 19 years old, she came to America and worked as a governess in New York.

On July 14, 1927, in Philadelphia, she married Ernest M. Pellkofer, who died in 1988.

They lived in Chicago before moving to Southern California in 1934. They later owned a ranch in Nevada and moved to Ashland in 1961, where they bought the St. Mary's Hereford Ranch.

They lived in O'Neals, Calif., for several years, before moving to Jacksonville. In California, they also owned homes in Red Bluff and Lake Almanor.

Survivors include a daughter, Pauline M. Sullivan, Ashland; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Two sons, Robert M., died in 1976, and Ernest J. Jr., in 1996.

Charles William Hill

Charles William Hill, 76, formerly or Medford, died Sunday (March 15, 1998) in Portland. The funeral was held Tuesday in Portland.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, 816 Black Oak Drive, Medford, OR 97504, or to the Convent of the Holy Names, Retirement Fund, P.O. Box 214, Marylhurst, OR 97036.

He was born Aug. 21, 1921, in La Harpe, Kan.

Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In November of 1945 he married Dorothy Jean Sterk, who died in 1990. They moved to Medford from Salem in 1950 and to Beaverton in 1978.

He owned and operated Hill's Antiques in Medford, before his retirement.

Survivors include four daughters, Tara S. Hill, Charlene A. Taylor, and Tracy M. Reilly, all Portland, and Sandra K. Hill, Wilsonville; two sons, Gary C., Portland, and Christopher J., Aloha; a brother, James A., Salem; and five grandchildren.

Margaret E. Wing

Margaret Elizabeth Wing, 98, of Medford, died Sunday (March 15, 1998) at Three Fountains Nursing Center. No service is planned. Entombment will be in Eternal Hills Memorial Gardens, Klamath Falls.

She was born Margaret Elizabeth Hunt on Feb. 27, 1900, in Colorado.

In Klamath Falls, Mrs. Wing was a sales clerk for Montgomery Ward and LaPointe's.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagles Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1984 from Klamath Falls.

Mrs. Wing enjoyed sewing and crafts.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Cooper, Shady Cove; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Trumen.

Zella Cloey Wright

The memorial service for Zella Cloey Wright will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Provolt Community Church, 13480 Williams Highway, Grants Pass. Pastor Mike Hale with officiate. Private interment was in Butte Falls Cemetery.

Mrs. Wright, 82, of Applegate, died Thursday (March 12, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

She was born Jan. 25, 1916, in Sams Valley a daughter of John and Mary Vincent, descendents of a family that settled in Sams Valley in 1856.

A 1933 graduate of Butte Falls High School, she played on the school's star basketball team.

On Feb. 6, 1934, in Medford, she married Herbert Eugene Wright, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Wright attended Provolt Community Church in Grants Pass.

A rock hound, she made jewelry and enjoyed picking huckleberries, hunting for mushrooms and orchids, and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Eugene "Gene" D., Phoenix; a daughter, Mary Ann Richardson, Grants Pass; a sister, Ella Netherland, Phoenix; a brother, Jess G. Vincent, Hot Springs, Mont.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Cammie Nye Hanson

The memorial service for Cammie Lynnette Nye Hanson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel. Private interment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Ms. Hanson, 35, of Ashland, died Sunday (March 15, 1998) in the Union Creek area.

She was born Cammie Lynnette Holdsworth on July 22, 1962, in Torrance, Calif., and moved to the Rogue Valley 10 years ago.

Ms. Hanson was a graphic artist.

She played the electric and bass guitar, drums and keyboard, and was a lead singer with bands.

She enjoyed camping.

Survivors include a daughter, Petra Nye, Central Point; a son, Peter Nye, Central Point; her mother, Mary Lou Cavenaugh, Eagle Point; her father, Leroy Holdsworth, in California; and grandparents, Herman and Ruth Howe, in Texas. A son, River Trail, died March 15, 1998.
