Edward Fred Pierce

Edward Fred Pierce, 84, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 1998) at a Brookings care facility. His home was in Brookings. No service is planned.

He was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Sioux City, Iowa.

On June 9, 1938, in Medford, he married Vivian Dunlap, who survives.

Mr. Pierce was a maintenance supervisor for the Jackson County Road Department, retiring in 1978. They then moved to Brookings.

Mr. Pierce was a member of the Elks Lodge.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Edward, Central Point, John, Medford, and Steven, Payson, Ariz.; a daughter, Barbara Larson, Central Point; a brother, Albert, White City; three sisters, Esther Alum, Fremont, Calif., Anna Marsh, Mason City,

Iowa, and Lois Brown, Harrison, Ark.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Talbot.

Arrangements: Scantlin's Brookings Mortuary Chapel.

David L. Saxbury

The memorial service for David L. Saxbury will be at 1 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church of Central Point. Pastor Duane Brown will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Saxbury, 46, of Central Point, died Sunday (Feb. 8, 1998) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crater Foundation, Dave Saxbury Scholarship, 451 N. Second St., Central Point, OR 97502.

He was born Jan. 8, 1952, in Kirksville, Mo., and the family moved to the Rogue Valley when he was a child.

After graduating from Crater High School in 1970, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Saxbury worked 18 years with Saxbury Furniture, then for the past two years he was with Crater Music Store in Medford.

He enjoyed bass fishing, sports, coaching, tinkering and collecting.

Survivors include a son, Christopher, Weed, Calif.; twin daughters, Erica Saxbury and Stacy Saxbury, both Central Point; his parents, William "Bill" and Mary Jo Saxbury, Central Point; a sister, Debbie Saxbury, Central Point; and his grandmother, Stella Mann, Medford.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

Joseph Alan Cooper

The funeral for Joseph Alan Cooper will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland. The Rev. Anthony Rosevear will officiate. Interment will follow in Hargadine Cemetery.

Mr. Cooper, 27, of Ashland, died Sunday (Feb. 8, 1998) at his home.

He was born April 6, 1970, in Ashland, and attended Ashland schools.

Mr. Cooper graduated from Southern Oregon University with a degree in geography.

Recently he was studying for a teaching position in China. Mr. Cooper's foreign travel included New Zealand, Fiji and Japan. An avid reader and San Francisco Giants fan, he also enjoyed drawing and outdoor sports.

Survivors include his parents, Jerry and Ilene Cooper, Ashland; and three sisters, Peggy Severson and Katie Cooper, both Ashland, and Vicki Sears, Portland.

Friends may pay their respects from 1:30 to 2 p.m. today at Simonsen Funeral Home.

Esther H. Sharp

The memorial service for Esther H. Sharp will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Memory Gardens Chapel, Medford. Pastor David Croy of First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sharp, 89, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 8, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 649 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Esther Hahn on April 13, 1908, in Turtle Lake, N.D., the youngest of 13 children.

On Nov. 15, 1933, in Los Angeles, she married Gerald R. Sharp, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sharp moved to the Rogue Valley in 1963 from Hawthorne, Calif., where she worked for Northrup Aviation.

After operating a yarn shop in Ashland for a year, she was a caregiver for the elderly for 10 years.

Mrs. Sharp enjoyed playing Scrabble.

Survivors include three daughters, Randi Scott, Phoenix, Karen Bostock, Fountain Valley, Calif., and Valerie Jones, Oceanside, Calif.; a son, Jerry, Blackfoot, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Patricia Lee Martin

The graveside service for Patricia Lee Martin will be at 3 p.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery, Yreka, Calif. Officiating will be the Rev. David Samuelson and her grandson, Neil M. Yarger.

Miss Martin, 61, of Medford, died Friday (Feb. 6, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center, from complications of lung cancer.

She was born Aug. 19, 1936, in Venice, Calif. As a child she moved to Yreka, where she grew up and attended school.

Miss Martin received a degree from Southern Oregon State College in 1987.

She called her 1994 move to the New Medford Apartments, "the best move of my life." There she found a family of friends.

A memorial service also will be held at New Medford Apartments.

Miss Martin enjoyed crafts and floral work.

Survivors include two daughters, Margo Lee Yarger, Medford, and Roselynn Fowler, Salem; a son, John Gilbert Brown, Medford; her father, John A. Martin, Yreka; a brother, Wallace Martin, Yuma, Ariz.; and a grandson.

Arrangements: Girdner's Funeral Home, Yreka.

Robert B. Tierney

Robert Bernard Tierney, 78, of Medford, died Sunday (Feb. 8, 1998) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. No service is planned.

He was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Fort Stevens.

On April 30, 1940, in Vancouver, Wash., he married Virginia Lorena Perrin, who survives.

They moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from Yuma, Ariz. Previously they lived in Sisters and Lowell.

Mr. Tierney worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 31 years, retiring in 1976.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Don, Beaverton, and Ron, Washougal, Wash.; a daughter, Barbara Wait, Tacoma, Wash.; two brothers, Dick, Tacoma, and Bill, Phelan, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives Alder Creek.

Sonny Saxbury

Kenneth G. Stockhoff

The memorial service for Kenneth Garland Stockhoff will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel, Medford. Stan Johnson of the West Main Church of Christ will officiate.

Mr. Stockhoff, 89, of Medford, died Saturday (Jan. 24, 1998) at Rose Haven Care Center in Roseburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving St., Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232 or to a favorite charity.

He was born Nov. 11, 1908, in Eureka, Calif. He grew up on a cattle ranch in Laribee Valley, Calif., then attended junior and senior high school in Eureka. He later lived on the family's cattle ranch in Coquille.

On June 19, 1932, in Coquille, he married Geneva Schaer, who died in 1965. They moved to Arcata, Calif., in 1942, where he worked for the California Barrel Factory.

The family moved to Medford in 1944, where he was a fireman for the City of Medford, retiring in 1968.

On April 20, 1968, he married Gladys Sease, who died in 1991.

On March 8, 1992, he married Rose Bain, who survives.

Mr. Stockhoff was a life member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Central Point.

A master mechanic, he was always working on something. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, and rock hounding.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Harold, Roseburg, and Donald, Chesapeake, Va.; a stepson, Norman Sease, Medford; a stepdaughter, Beverly Sherrer, Sunriver; a brother, Roland, Eureka, Calif.; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services-Siskiyou Chapel, Medford.
