Alpha Omega Ruiz

The graveside service for Alpha Omega Ruiz will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mrs. Ruiz, 84, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 9, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501 or the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1207, Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Alpha Underwood on April 9, 1913, in Wolf Island, Mo.

In September 1979, she moved to the Rogue Valley from Pico Rivera, Calif.

She was an assembler and packer at Monograms Aerospace Fasteners in Paramount, Calif., for 25 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of Bethel Church in Medford.

Survivors include a daughter, Agnes Brooks, Medford; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services, Medford.

Lloyd Wendall Rice

Lloyd Wendall Rice, 82, of White City, died Thursday (Jan. 8, 1998) at his home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

He was born April 1, 1915, in Shawnee Mission, Kan.

Mr. Rice served with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Minnesota in the 1930s.

During World II, he served in the U.S. Army.

He moved to Los Angeles, where he was an auto mechanic and was active in the formation of drag racing.

Mr. Rice moved to Oregon in 1960 from Los Angeles, building his home in Sams Valley.

On Jan. 31, 1997, in Gold Hill, he married Betty Hartmann Cox, who survives.

He worked for the Jackson County Roads Department, retiring in late 1970s. He then owned and operated a business rebuilding starters and generators.

He was a master mechanic, automotive electrician, and inventor.

In the 1970s, he was active in CB clubs, with the handle "The Shadow."

Mr. Rice was a member of the Medford Moose and Eagles lodges and the American Legion.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dan, Overland, Kan.; two daughters, Mary Nitowski, Eagle Point, and Rose Ann Miller, Flagler Beach, Fla.; a sister, Katherine Martel, Lenexa, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary K. Rice; and a son, Lloyd Michael.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

Lorraine Stevens Cuffel

The memorial service for Lorraine Stevens Cuffel will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Ashland. The Revs. Michael Powell and Nevitt Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Cuffel, 78, of Ashland, died Tuesday (Jan. 6, 1998) at her home.

She was born May 13, 1919, in Phoenix, Ariz., a daughter of William and Laura Stevens. The family moved to Ashland in 1930.

She attended Ashland schools and was a 1939 graduate of Southern Oregon Normal School.

Mrs. Cuffel, a teacher, taught in Malin and at St. John's School in Portland.

In June 1942, in Portland, she married Robert Charles Cuffel, who survives.

The Cuffels lived in Connecticut, California, Utah, Washington, and Brussels, Belgium, before returning to Ashland in 1977.

Mrs. Cuffel was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ashland, Alpha Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Ashland Study Club, and Siskiyou Knife and Fork Club.

She did community volunteer work, was an avid gardener and enjoyed reading.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Sue Cuffel Lyons, Ashland; two sons, Robert C. Jr., Seattle, and Donald W., Pleasant Hill, Calif.; a brother, E.J. Stevens, Milwaukie; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother.

Arrangements: Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

A.G. Wesley Wright

Albert George Wesley Wright, 85, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Jan. 6, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass. No local service is planned. Inurnment will be in the family plot in England.

He was born Sept. 5, 1912, in Cheshunt, England.

During World War II in England, he worked in aircraft repair and production.

He came to Canada in 1951, then settled in California in 1953.

Mr. Wright became a naturalized citizen July 15, 1959.

In California, he worked in sales and service of foreign cars. After moving to Gold Hill in 1972, he operated a shop specializing in the repair and maintenance of foreign cars.

On July 29, 1983, in Lovelock, Nev., he married Margaret Hazel Clark, who survives.

Mr. Wright was a member of the Grants Pass Elks Lodge. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, but doted on his roses. He also traveled extensively in the Middle East, the Far East, and Mexico.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Adrian Carl, in England; a stepson, Robert Hoffer, Cataldo, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Shanks, Boise; a sister, Rachel Perry, in England; two grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dentith; and a sister, Betty Wright.

Arrangements: Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Earl Floyd Brown

Earl Floyd Brown, 80, of Rogue River, died Sunday (Jan. 4, 1998) at Three Rivers Community Hospital, Grants Pass. No service is planned.

He was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Rollings, Texas.

Mr. Brown moved to the Rogue Valley in 1979 from Oxnard, Calif.

On Sept. 17, 1990, in Grants Pass, he married Renee Cunningham, who survives.

Mr. Brown was a self-employed electrical technician.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Maxine Elaine Clark

Maxine Elaine Clark, 73, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 8, 1998) in Medford. No service is planned. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Maxine Walker on March 4, 1924, in Vancouver, B.C.

On Oct. 28, 1960, in Reno, she married Edwin W. Clark, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1989 from Hayward, Calif.

Mrs. Clark worked in jewelry at Military Post exchanges on foreign and domestic bases.

She served as treasurer of the Ladies Golf Club in Hayward and enjoyed playing bridge.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Steven Haskins, Pittsburg, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Whitsitt, Castro Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Joyce Doutt, Medford, and Pearl Campbell, Walnut Creek, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Mortuary, Medford.

James Russell Coriell

The memorial service for James Russell Coriell will be at 2 p.m. today in the Medford Moose Lodge. Interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Coriell, 75, of Central Point, died Thursday (Jan. 8, 1998) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Moose Lodge Building Fund, 226 N. Ross Lane, Medford, OR 97501.

He was born Jan. 9, 1922, in Indian Valley, Idaho.

On Dec. 19, 1950, in Lewiston, Idaho, he married Ina May Ireland, who died May 11, 1994.

Mr. Coriell moved to the Rogue Valley 45 years ago from Moscow, Idaho.

An electrician, he worked for Boise Casacde for 20 years, retiring in 1978.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Coriell was a member of the Medford Moose and Eagles lodges, and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and darts.

Survivors include his companion, Niva Miller, Central Point; two daughters, Kathy Bass, Central Point, and Diane Bridge, Garfield, Wash.; a son, James C., Cottonwood, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Tarbox, Lewiston, Idaho, and Arvella Sirman, Georgetown, Del.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgie Courtwright.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 2 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Arrangements: Central Valley Cremation & Funeral Care, Central Point.

James E. Hackett

The memorial service for James E. Hackett will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Rogue Valley Christian Church, Medford. The Rev. Jim Larson will officiate. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Memory Gardens Memorial Park, Medford.

Mr. Hackett, 75, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 5, 1998) in Medford.

He was born Feb. 20, 1922, in Sioux County, N.D., and moved to the Rogue Valley in 1936.

On June 6, 1942, in Reno, he married Julia Springer, who survives.

Mr. Hackett was a sheet metal worker and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 16 in Portland.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Rogue Valley Christian Church.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, James F., Larry, Arnold and Ronald, all Medford; two daughters, Charlene Stout and Carol Bassett, both Medford; three brothers, Charles, Medford, John, in Missouri, and Wayne, in Arizona; two sisters, Dorothy Kurovsky, Medford, and Clara Toy, San Miguel, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald.

Friends may pay their respects from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today at Conger-Morris Medford Chapel, Medford.
