Francis Harry Treon III

The memorial service for Francis Harry Treon III will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Neighborhood Church, 1819 Stewart Ave., Medford. Pastor V. Lee Gregory will officiate.

Mr. Treon, 68, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, P.O. Box 1172, Medford, OR 97501, or to the Providence Community Health Foundation, Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Treon was born Dec. 7, 1929, in Scranton, Pa.

In 1945, he began studying gohn dagow gung fu, the classical Chinese form of self-defense, from its grand master, Chin Li. He taught the martial aspects of it to the military from 1949 to 1970, then full-time in Medford until his death.

On Nov. 23, 1984, in Albuquerque, N.M., he married Donna Wilkinson, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994 from the Colestin Valley.

He was a member of the Medford Neighborhood Church and the Ashland Elks Lodge.

Mr. Treon enjoyed motorcycling, racketball, pool and backgammon.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Christina Rodrigues, Phoenix, Ariz., and Marion Treon, Albuquerque.; one grandchild; and five adopted grandchildren.

David Stanley Loye

David Stanley Loye, 54, formerly of Medford, died Monday (Dec. 29, 1997) in Vista, Calif. A private service is planned.

He was born June 17, 1943, in Eugene.

In 1968, he married Diane Holt, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970. They later divorced.

On Dec. 29, 1984, in Medford, he married Diane Smith, who survives. They moved to Vista, Calif., in 1985.

Mr. Loye served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was an engineer for Rogue Valley Medical Center for 15 years.

A small-airplane pilot, Mr. Loye was active in the Civil Air Patrol.

He enjoyed painting, sketching, and crafting in wood and metal.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Todd, Medford; three step-sons, Raymond Smith, England, and Joseph and Paul Smith, both Vista; his mother, Nelda Loye, Reno, Nev.; a brother, Stephen, Reno; a sister, Lauren Alten, Reno; and his first wife, Diane Loye Yarrish, Medford. His father, Stanley, died in 1997.

Lloyd R. Hawkins

The memorial service for Lloyd Raymond Hawkins will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mountain View Estates clubhouse in Talent. The Rev. John Braund will officiate.

Mr. Hawkins, 84, of Talent, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 1998) at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

He was born Aug. 4, 1913, in Barnesville, Minn., and educated in Fargo, N.D.

Mr. Hawkins was a Marine sergeant major during World War II.

In 1954, in Oakland, Calif., he married Gena Quakenbush Neville, who survives. They lived in San Ramon, Calif., for many years, before moving to Talent in 1986 from the San Francisco Bay area.

He was a divisional manager for Armstrong/Pirelli Tire and Rubber Company, retiring in 1978.

Mr. Hawkins enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Joan Francis, Concord, Calif., Suzanne Etienne, Rio Del Mar, Calif., and Marilyn Hawkins, Portland; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Jae H. Collver

Jae H. Collver, 81, formerly of Ashland and Talent, died Tuesday (Dec. 16, 1997) in Laporte, Minn. The memorial service was held in Laporte Dec. 20.

He was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Laporte.

On Feb. 29, 1940, in Laporte, he married Alice Zubke, who died in 1990. They moved to Ashland in 1953 and to Talent in 1978.

In 1992 he married Ethlyn Ruff, who survives. He returned to Laporte in 1992.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ivan, Ashland, and Leon, Eugene; two daughters, Gloria Haines, Medford, and Dian Magruder, Fair Oaks, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Randena Ruff in Wyoming; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Roland; and a daughter, Donna Stephens.

Gloria Gray

Gloria Gray, 64, of Medford, died Friday (Jan. 2, 1998) at her home. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 2825 E. Barnett Road, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born April 11, 1933, in Detroit.

On Sept. 6, 1958, in Sequin, Texas, she married Frank D. Gray, who survives.

For 25 years, Mrs. Gray was a registered nurse at Rogue Valley Medical Center, retiring in 1987.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include two sons, David, Medford, and Frank Jr., Anchorage, Alaska; a daughter, Alyce Magill, Grants Pass; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral.

Edwin N. Cooke

The funeral for Edwin C. Cooke will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Clausen's Illinois Valley Funeral Home, Cave Junction. Belt Masonic Lodge of Kerby and Chip Combs will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Cemetery.

Mr. Cooke, 91, of Cave Junction, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 1998) at the home of a daughter in Cave Junction.

He was born Nov. 27, 1906, in Chelan County, Wash.

A cowboy, Mr. Cooke preferred being a rodeo clown, and designed some of the paraphernalia, such as the barrel and chariot, that clowns use today.

He worked in the copper mines in Butte, Mont., then in 1944 moved to O'Brien and owned and lived in the house that is now the Kerby Museum.

Mr. Cooke was involved in the purchase of the old Kerby School and its renovation to the Kerby Belt Building. A timber faller, he worked for several area sawmills, retiring from Cabax in 1973.

He also had several mining claims.

He was instrumental in starting the Cave Junction Fire Department and helped keep the Jubilee -- now the Labor Day Festival -- going, especially the logging show.

Mr. Cooke was president of the Sawmill Workers Union and the Eagles Lodge and was active in the Masonic Lodge -- Reames, Melita, White Shrine, and Blue lodges.

A world-class fly fisherman, he fished in Washington, Montana, and Oregon and killed his last buck three years ago.

Survivors include four daughters, Kathy Kennedy, Cave Junction, Dorothy Crabtree, Valley Springs, Calif., and Mary Cecchini and Lela Lohr, both of Vallejo; two sons, Frank, Brookings, and Jack, Mount Aukum, Calif.; two brothers, E.V. and Jim, both of Grants Pass; a sister, Gladys Fattig, Willow Creek, Calif.; 35 grandchildren, and 53 great-grandchildren. A son, James, and two brothers, Gordon and Gifford, preceded him in death.

Arrangements: Clausen's Illinois Valley Funeral Home, Cave Junction.

Anna Geppert

The funeral for Anna Geppert will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Butte Falls Community Church. Pastor John Adams will officiate. Interment will be in the Butte Falls Cemetery.

Mrs. Geppert, 86, of Butte Falls, died Saturday (Jan. 3, 1998) in Central Point at the home of a granddaughter, Jennifer Waterbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Search and Rescue, 787 W. Eighth St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Oct. 30, 1911, in Grants Pass, a daughter of Benjamin F. and Lucretia Hull Hilkey.

When she was 12, the family moved to Butte Falls.

On Dec. 3, 1928, in Medford, she married Louis Geppert, who died in 1986. They made their home in Butte Falls. She lived there until 1 years ago when ill health forced her move to Central Point.

She enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and crocheting.

Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Hoppe, Butte Falls; a sister, Clara Klepper; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. A daughter, Barbara Jean Stanton, died in 1987. Six brothers, a grandson and a great-great grandson also preceded her in death.

Friends may pay their respects following the service at the Butte Falls Community Church.

Jean M. Lovenborg

The memorial service for Jean M. Lovenborg will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Siskiyou Chapel. The Rev. Joyce DeGraaff of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Private entombment will be in Siskiyou Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Mrs. Lovenborg, 77, of Medford, died Thursday (Jan. 1, 1998) in the Ashland Community Hospital.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born Jean M. Ludwick, on Aug. 28, 1920, in Baker.

She graduated from Klamath Union High School.

On Oct. 29, 1938, in Lakeview, she married George Lovenborg, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1946.

Mrs. Lovenborg was an active member of First Presbyterian Church. In 1946 and 1947 she was president of Sojourners in Medford and for many years was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

She enjoyed sewing and ceramics.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Nyla Gilbert, Central Point; a son, Sten, Edmonds, Wash.; a sister, Pat Beatty, Oklahoma City; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Services.
