Robert L. McCurley

Robert L. McCurley, 68, of Jacksonville, died Friday (Jan. 2, 1998) in Brookings after a old battle with cancer. No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 698, Medford, OR 97501, or any hospice program.

He was born March 6, 1929, in Roseville, Mich.

A barber for more than 50 years, he moved to Brookings in 1984 and to Jacksonville, two years ago, where he owned and operated the Jacksonville Barber Shop. He retired in October.

His former barber shops include Country Boy Barber, Village Barbers, Gentleman Choice Barber Salon and the Guys and Dolls Hair Salon.

Active in the International Foreign Exchange programs, Mr. McCurley hosted 10 students during the past 12 years.

He also was active in the Chetco Pelican Players, performing in several of their shows in the early years of the Players. Mr. McCurley was a member of the Sidney Croft Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Sonia; a son, Bobby, Central Point; five daughters, Holly Kyzer in Hawaii, Renee VanHouton, Tucson, Ariz., Dione Kaevisch, Carlsbad, Calif., Sylvia Bouecchia, Milan, Italy, and Wanessa Batista, Brasilia, Brazil; three step-children; and five grandchildren.

Arrangements: Litty Funeral Directors, Brookings.

George R. Hamilton

George R. Hamilton, 80, formerly of the Shady Cove-Trail area, died Wednesday (Dec. 24, 1997) in a Roseburg hospital. His home was in Umpqua. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Hamilton was born May 13, 1917, Chehalis, Wash.

On July 5, 1945, in Klamath Falls, he married Betty Kness, who died March 18, 1981.

They moved to Jackson County, first living in Ashland, then in 1962 moved to the Shady Cove-Trail area, where they lived for 20 years.

Mr. Hamilton was a logger and later worked for Boise-Cascade in White City for a number of years.

Survivors include three sons, Danny, Trail, Randy, Visalia, Calif., and Ike, Canyonville; three daughters, Nelda Copley, Eagle Point, Becky Blais, Roseburg, and Kathy L. Murphy, Umpqua; a brother, Bob, Phoenix; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death; Gary, died April 3, 1974, and Robert, Oct. 28, 1977. A brother and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Arrangements: The Chapel of the Firs, Sutherlin.

Vern Hopper

The memorial service for Lewis "Vern" Hopper will be at 2 p.m. today in the Hull & Hull Chapel, Grants Pass. The Rev. John P. Gustafson will officiate. Private interment will be in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mr. Hopper, 73, of Central Point, died Tuesday (Dec. 30, 1997) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 3101 S.W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

He was born Oct. 9, 1924, in Murphy. He grew up in Murphy and attended Grants Pass High School.

On June 18, 1947, in Grants Pass, he married Dorothy Jean Dungey, who survives.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Hopper worked for the Grants Pass Post Office from 1946 until retiring in 1972.

He bought and developed 260 acres near Azalea Drive in Grants Pass.

The couple spent winters in Arizona.

He was a member of the Grants Pass Eagles and Elks lodges and enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Jeannie Walter, Central Point, Judy Jewett, White City, and Jackie Bormuth, Myrtle Creek; four sisters, Dolly Bastian, Ethel Slusser and Sarah Dotts, all Grants Pass, and Muriel Brown, Miles City, Mont.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Arrangements: Southern Oregon Cremation Society, Grants Pass.

Lu Baldwin

The funeral for Lucinda "Lu" Baldwin will be at 1 p.m. today at the First Christian Church, 1900 Crater Lake Ave., Medford. The Rev. Tim Tiffany will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Medford.

Mrs. Baldwin, 80, of Medford, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 1997) at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Medford Chapter, 6915 S.W. Macadam, No. 130, Portland, OR 97219.

She was born Lucinda Sisemore on Aug. 6, 1917, in Johnson, Ark.

She moved to Medford on 1993 from Healdsburg, Calif., where she lived for almost 40 years.

Survivors include her companion, Magnus Akse, Medford; a son, Richard, Medford; two brothers, Claude Sisemore, Scio, and Roland Sisemore, Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Josephine Carter, Lacomb, and Francis Graff, Prineville; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ellis Sisemore and Earl Sisemore; and two sisters, Pauline Hill and Aidene Osborn.

Friends may pay their respects from noon to 12:45 p.m. today at the First Christian Church, Medford.

Dale Adair Davis

Dale Adair Davis, 78, formerly of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) at Emanuel Hospital in Portland. His home was in Coos Bay. No service is planned.

He was born May 31, 1919, in Omaha, Neb., and moved to Medford as a teenager.

On Oct. 1, 1983, in Reno, he married Barbara Dillon, who survives. They moved to Coos Bay in October 1997.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Army, then during World War II in the U.S. Navy.

After the war he returned to Medford where he worked as a carpenter before joining the Medford Fire Department, where he retired as assistant chief.

Mr. Davis enjoyed golfing and fishing.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two daughters, Lynn Jackson, Medford, and Pam Myers, Portland; two sons, Robert, Medford, and Greg, Enterprise; three stepsons, Brad Yates, Medford, Mike Smith, Anchorage, Alaska, and Kit Jetson in California; four stepdaughters, Kathy Shaw and Jolynn Hass, both Medford, Susan Holcomb, Portland, and Gay Phroniser, Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Bonnie Allen, Coquille; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Portland Funeral Alternatives.

The Rev. John Bouquet

The memorial service for the Rev. John E. Bouquet will be at 4 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Rogue Valley Manor. The Rev. Alan Jackson of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford, will officiate.

Mr. Bouquet, 86, of Medford, died Saturday (Dec. 27, 1997) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Church USA, 100 Witherspoon St., Louisville, KY 40202.

He was born April 18, 1911, in Kansas City, Mo.

On May 28, 1934, in Parkville, Mo., he married Margaret Medill, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley four years ago from Los Gatos, Calif., where they had lived since his retired in 1976.

Mr. Bouquet received a bachelor of arts degree from Park College, Parkville, in 1931, and a bachelor of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1934. In 1937 he earned a masters of theology degree from Auburn/Union Theological Seminary.

During World War II, he was a chaplain in the U.S. Army.

A Presbyterian minister, he served churches in Mansfield, Pa., from 1934 to 1938, in Lebanon, Pa., from 1938 to 1947, and in Neenah, Wis., from 1947 to 1976, where he was active in the construction of a new church building.

Mr. Bouquet received an honorary doctorate of divinity degree from Parkville College and was named pastor emeritus of the Neenah Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of Rotary International for 41 years, serving as president in Neenah; served on the Los Gatos Senior Coordinating Council, and was active at the Los Gatos Food Bank.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, John David, West Covina, Calif.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

Margie Ellen Colley

Margie Ellen Colley, 69, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) in Reno, Nev. Her home was in Reno. A memorial service will be held later.

She was born Margie Hunsley on June 14, 1928, in Idaho. She moved to Ashland as a child and graduated from Ashland High School in 1946.

In December 1946, in Ashland, she married John D. Colley, who died in 1984. They moved to Medford in the early 1960s.

Mrs. Colley was a seamstress.

She moved to Reno in 1991.

Survivors include her companion, Tony Olson, Reno; two daughters, Jacquie Morrell, Ashland, and Linda Reed, Reno; a son, Micheal, Clarksville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Reno Memorial Cremation and Burial Society.

Edmond R. Simoneau

Edmond R. Simoneau, 83, of Medford, died Tuesday (Dec. 23, 1997) in Vancouver, Wash. A private memorial service was held.

He was born Feb. 23, 1914, in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, Canada.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.

In 1947, he married Pauline E. Peters, who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1970 from Oxnard, Calif.

In Southern California, Mr. Simoneau was a machinist in the aerospace industry for many years, retiring in 1970.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Alain, Medford; and a daughter, Francoise Noel Simoneau, Portland.

Arrangements: Autumn Burial & Cremation, Beaverton.
