Elmer "Ole" Olson

Elmer "Ole" Olaf Olson, 90, of Lincoln City died Jan. 22, 1999 at his home.
He was born in Superior, Wis. on Aug. 13, 1908 to Nels and Ida (Swanson) Olson.
He graduated from high school as salutatorian in Superior, Wis., where he played football and hockey and was a pole vaulter on the track team.
He moved to Seattle, Wash. at the age of 19, where he began his working career.
He worked for the American Mail Line, and traveled to the South Pacific on a freighter.
Upon his return, he married Ariel Merrit on May 9, 1941 in Portland.
He began a career as an administrative assistant with the Coast and Geodetic Survey based in both the Seattle and Portland areas for many years. Upon his retirement in 1965, he and his wife moved to Lincoln City, where they owned and operated Plant and Posey for 34 years.
He was a past member of the Oceanlake Elks Lodge #1886, and was a member of the Portland Figure Skating Association.
He loved to ice skate and was an avid reader and writer.
Survivors include his wife, Ariel Olson of Lincoln City; a son, Peter Olson of El Cerrito, Calif.; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Sener Otrugman of Lincoln City; a sister, Corrine "Toots" Cheever of Superior, Wis.; and grandchildren Eric and Christopher Olson, both of El Cerrito, Calif., Nick Reynolds of Colorado and Ryan Reynolds of Lincoln City. He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Olson; and sisters Helen Olson, Alice Turnbull and Edith Olson.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational Church, Lincoln City, with Rev. Charles Busch officiating. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Outreach Committee, Congregational Church, PO Box 945, Lincoln City 97367.
Pacific View Memorial Chapel is serving the family.

George Terryberry

George R. "Papa" Terryberry, 57, of Newport died at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport on Jan. 27, 1999.
He was born in Independence, Mo. on July 16, 1941 to Alfred and Blanche Terryberry.
He moved to Newport in 1988 with his second wife, Karen Terryberry, who preceded him in death in 1996.
Survivors include his mother, Blanche Haddock; a son, Shawn Terryberry; a brother, Alfred Terryberry; sisters Linda Edson, Vicky Glass and Patti Hamilton, all of Missouri; step-children Becky Lamma of Newport, Kevin Kornegay of McMinnville and Michelle Peluso of Vancouver, Wash.; and grandchildren Brandon and Stephen Lamma of Newport, Christopher Lamma of Mt. Jackson, Va., Adam Peluso of Vancouver, Wash., and Kristina Kornegay of McMinnville.
Burial will be today (Wednesday) in Independence, Mo.
A memorial service will be held in Newport, to be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Robert "Bob" Taylor Sr.

Robert "Bob" Lloyd Taylor Sr., 54, of Toledo died Jan. 29, 1999 at the Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital in Portland.
He was born in Greenville, Pa. on July 5, 1944 to Robert Lewis and Agnes Baker Taylor.
He married Sharon D. Woodcook in Sheridan, Wyo. on May 17, 1981.
He was employed as a millwright and welder for 20 years.
He was a member of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and lived on the reservation.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon, of Siletz; his mother, Agnes Baker Pilgrim of Grants Pass; a son, Robert Lloyd Taylor Jr., and a daughter, Desiree Katarina Taylor, both of Austin, Texas; three stepsons, Robert Ray Greene of Siletz, Mitchell D. Greene of Hesperia, Calif., and Ronald Lyman Greene, U.S. Air Force in Korea; brothers Keith Taylor of Trinidad, Calif. and Tony Martin of Lincoln City; sisters Sonja Taylor of Los Angeles, Calif., Mona Hudson of Aumsville and Nadine Martin of Crescent City, Calif.; six grandchildren; his aunt, Nellie Baker of Redmond; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lewis Taylor, and all of his uncles.
The family will hold a vigil tonight (Wednesday) at the Siletz Tribal Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, conducted by his brother, Keith Taylor.
Burial will follow in Paul Washington Cemetery, Siletz.
A potluck dinner at the Siletz Tribal Center will be served immediately following graveside services at Paul Washington Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bateman Funeral Home.

Eleanor Tindall

Eleanor Marie Beals Tindall, 98, of Twin Falls, Idaho died Jan. 27, 1999 in Twin Falls.
She was born in Dubuque, Iowa on July 4, 1900 to Warren T. and Bertha S. Beals.
She traveled by train for two days in 1910 to Washington to join her parents, who had settled on a small apple orchard on the Columbia River.
She attended Washington State University from 1919 to 1922.
She married Frederick Bryan Tindall on Sept. 2, 1925.
They settled by their families in Okanogan, Wash., and had three children.
She worked for many years at the Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle.
She later settled in Gleneden Beach, where she lived for 33 years.
She enjoyed sunsets and the sounds of the ocean.
She was fond of the Community Church, in which she was active in many capacities.
She also enjoyed her garden.
She spent her last years with her grandson, Terry Tindall, and his family in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Survivors include her grandchildren, Susan Ginter of Post Falls, Idaho, Terry Tindall of Twin Falls, Idaho, Glenn Bratt of Salt Lake City, Utah and James Bratt of San Antonio, Texas; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Wilford Beals; her husband; and her children, Richard, Carol and Dorothy.
Funeral arrangements were held in Twin Falls by White Mortuary, and a graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Eureka Cemetery in Newport.

Dale Snow

Dale Snow, 77, of Willamina died Jan. 28, 1999 in McMinnville.
He was born in Willamina on Feb. 26, 1921.
He lived in the Willamina area until he served in the Navy during World War II.
He served as a pharmacist mate on the USS Bennington in the South Pacific.
After completing a master's degree in wildlife management at the University of Wyoming, he returned to Oregon and worked at the Oregon Plywood Mill.
He went to work for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in 1955 as a marine biologist. During his time with the agency, he traveled to Washington, D.C. as an expert witness, and was often called upon to deal with the media on a variety of issues. He retired in 1987.
He married Mary M. Shipley in Willamina on Sept. 19, 1990.
After retirement, he took up wood carving and carved many wildlife figures.
He enjoyed trap shooting, hunting, fishing, telling jokes, watching birds and wildlife.
He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church of Willamina, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4211 of Willamina, the Newport Elks Lodge and the Audubon Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Snow of Willamina; sons and daughter-in-law, Dale Brent Snow of Bend and Dennis and Jan Shipley of Reno, Nev.; and a daughter, Landra Elaine Snow of Salem.
Services were held at Adamson's Sheridan Funeral Home, with private vault interment at Green Crest Memorial Park in Sheridan.

Eva Parrish

Eva Blanche Newcomb Parrish, 95, of Toledo died Jan. 29, 1999.
She was born in Tillamook on June 18, 1903 to Earl Elmer and Edith Blanche Newcomb.
She married George Bushnell Parrish in Toledo on Aug. 3, 1921.
He preceded her in death in 1975.
She had been a lifelong resident of Toledo.
She worked at the former Pancks Grocery Store and Toledo Furniture Store for many years.
She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her son, George Parrish of Toledo; daughter-in-law, Louise; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at the Toledo Cemetery.
Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Brett Heckert

A memorial service and potluck will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Toledo Middle School for Brett Levi Heckert, 5 days, whose complete obituary appeared in the Jan. 27 edition. Brett died Jan. 22, 1999 and was the son of Daniel and Leona Heckert of Toledo.

Douglas Conser

Douglas James Conser, 33, of Toledo died at Newport Rehabilitation & Specialty Care Center in Newport on Feb. 1, 1999.
He was born in Newport on Nov. 4, 1965 to Richard J. and Audrey M. Johnson Conser.
He had been a lifelong Toledo resident.
Survivors include his mother, Audrey Conser of Toledo; father, Richard Conser of Chiloquin; brother, Enar Conser of Grants Pass; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bateman Funeral Home in Newport.
Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery, Newport.
