Irene Elizabeth Tizekker
A funeral service will be held for Irene Elizabeth Tizekker at the Memory Gardens cemetery Chapel, 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3. The casket will be open for viewing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, at the Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

Irene died Thursday (Sept. 25, 2003) in Las Vegas, NV, at the age of 91. Irene was born on Oct. 17, 1911 in Hastings on Hudson, New York, the daughter of Adam and Julia Vargo. In 1916, Irene's family moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where Irene completed her education. Irene married John Tizekker in Cleveland on May 24, 1930 at the Zion Lutheran Hungarian Church.

In 1945, Irene and her family moved to Medford where she has resided since. Irene spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and helping her husband with his business, Western Detectives security patrol. After her husband's death in 1963, Irene ran the business herself for 13 years until her retirement.

Irene enjoyed traveling and spending time with family. She attended Medford First Baptist Church. She was interested in the medical profession and had studied to be a Practical Nurse.

Survivors include two daughters, Virginia T. Young of Medford, and Margaret I. D'Amato of Las Vegas, NV; a son James E. Tizekker of Vancouver WA; seven grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, a brother, James A. Vargo, and a sister, Margaret Krause.

James 'Jim' Glenn Baker
In Loving memory of James 'Jim' Glenn Baker Nov. 9 1929-Sept. 28 2003 A Celebration of life for Jim Baker of friends and family will be at 1 p.m. Sun. Oct. 5, at the club house, at River Valley Village, 222 Ollis Rd. Cave Junction.

Born in Dewitt, AR on Nov 9, 1929. After several years of traveling and 2 years in the military he moved to Arcata, CA where he met his wife Phyllis. They were married on March 10, 1962. Jim worked in the plywood industry, Boise Cascade, and Medco, and did landscaping. He retired in Cave Junction.

He liked to go camping at Selmac Lake; being in the outdoors in the morning was his best time. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping, and construction work. He left behind his loving wife Phyllis, of 41 years and his dog Sam; his children and their spouses, Darrell and Terry, Cave Junction, David, Sunnyvale, CA, Craig & Rhonda, Korbel, CA. Rodney & Penny, Redding, CA, Mike & Brenda, Redmond, Teri and Michael, Medford, and Patty and Pat, Medford; brothers, Gerald, Aubrey, Harold and Larry; tons of grandchildren; and great-grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Sena Baker and his daughter, Catherine Shackley.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Lovejoy Hospice of Cave Junction, OR. American Cancer Society, and Animal Humane Society.

John Olaf Green
A private memorial service for John O. Green will be held at the home of Mrs. John Green on Oct. 2, 2003.

Mr. Green, 71, long time resident of Medford, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at Rogue Valley Medical Center of pulmonary fibrosis.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dogs for the Deaf or the Southern Oregon Humane Society.

Mr. Green was born on July 30, 1932 in Mandan, ND, a son of Charles and Violet Green. On March 16, 1956 he married Myrna Potts, his beloved wife of 47 years, who survives.

Mr. Green served in the Navy during the Korean war.

He was a journeyman meatcutter, working for Safeway and Sherm's Thunderbird. He also worked at Timber Products, and retired from the Medford School District as a custodial engineer in 1996.

His passions were woodworking, gardening, grandchildren, family, birdwatching, fishing, and being an outdoor grilling expert. He was an avid reader, loved to laugh and tell jokes, and watch his son-in-law Bill Nutter race sprint cars.

Survivors include a brother, Calvin Green of Aurora, Colo., a son, Todd Green of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Rose Green of Phoenix, OR and Michelle Nutter of Central Point; and two granddaughters Anna Caster of Phoenix, OR and Amanda Caster of Tulsa, OK.

Kathryn P. Hall
Kathryn P. Hall, 94, of Cave Junction, died Monday, (Sept. 29, 2003) at Fair View Transitional Health Center. No services will be held She was born June 19, 1909 in Cherokee, Kansas. She lived in Calif. before moving to Medford seven years ago. She had lived in Cave Junction for the last three months.

Survivors include seven children, Peggy Hamilton of Merced, CA, Tom Hall of Hughson, CA, Sandra Yarborough of Grass Valley, CA, Judi Riggs, and Gary Hall both of Cave Junction, Raymond Hall of Springfield, MO, Richard Hall of Silsbee, TX, 47 grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Mabel Ann Smith
A memorial service for Mabel Ann Smith will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Trail Christian Fellowship. Rev. Don Holmes of Trail Christian Fellowship will officiate.

Mrs. Smith, 86, of Gold Hill, died Sunday (Sept. 28, 2003) at her son's home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1917 in Gold Hill, OR to Calvin Dusenberry and Nina Householder (Dusenberry). On April 23, 1936, in Gold Hill she married Dale F. Smith. She lived in the Rogue Valley all of her life.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and she enjoyed gardening, bowling, and her grandchildren.

Survivors include: a son, Delmar C. Smith of Central Point; a brother, Don Dusenberry of Seattle, WA; a sister, Nora Bailey of Medford; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, Oct. 2, 2002, a son, Clifford Smith, May 2, 2000, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

Oscar V. Berg
A memorial service for Oscar V. Berg, 79, of White City will be held Friday, October 3, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Eagle Point National cemetery Interment Shelter. Chaplain Wayne Bell of the White City VA Dom will officiate. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Floyd Lincoln Wood
A memorial service for Floyd Lincoln Wood will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Mausoleum. Chaplain John Braund of the Rogue Valley Medical Center will officiate.

Mr. Wood, 88, of Medford, died Sunday (Sept. 21, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on Feb. 12, 1915 in Lebanon, OR. On July 2, 1939 in Albany, OR he married LaVerne E. Brown, who survives. He lived in Northern Calif. and Southern Oregon most of his life.

Mr. Wood worked as a logger for V&K; Logging and Foley Roads.

In addition to his wife survivors include: a daughter, Sharyl Kelly of Medford; three sons, Jay L. Wood of Central Point, Ralph Wood of Lebanon and Harold Ayers, of Roseburg; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

James 'Jim' B. Smith
James "Jim" Barrington Smith, 80, of Brookings, OR died September 18, 2003 of natural causes.

He was born on April 11, 1923 in Ashland to Albert "Bert" H. and Merle Muriel Halcyone (Gibson) Smith. He was raised in Ashland and graduated from Ashland High School in 1941 where he played football and basketball.

He attended "Southern Oregon Normal School, " now SOU, where he also played football and basketball. He then transferred to University of Oregon to study for a year where he studied architecture and landscaping architecture.

During WWII, he worked in vital service to Infra structure at Copco, now Pacific Power or Pacific Corp. This position grew into a lifetime career with the company, and he retired in 1988. While with the company, he operated heavy equipment, cats, lowboys, and heavy trucks.

He married Anna Mae Platko in Ashland February 3, 1951 and they had one daughter, Melinda. Anna Mae died February 7, 1992.

Mr. Smith was a life-time member of the Elks Lodge #944 in Ashland, and a member of Local 659 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Jim was honest, and was known for his integrity. He was dedicated to his job, family and friends. He was artistic and enjoyed painting figurines, Christmas ornaments, doing woodwork. He was a gardener who raised beautiful flowers.

James lived in Ashland until 1995, then he moved to Brookings where he married Jackie Smith on April 16, 1999. Survivors include his wife, Jackie; a daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and John Morrish of Sumner, WA; two step-children, Ron Smith and wife Maureen of Middleton, ID, and Peggy Buchanan and husband Dennis of Boise, Idaho; a step-daughter-in-law, Delia Smith of Fruitland, ID; seven step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife Ann Mae and a stepson, Tony Smith.

Memorial services were held September 26th in Brookings.

Nat Silverman
After a beautiful and giving life of nearly 95 years, Nat Silverman died in Ashland on Sept. 21. A memorial service to celebrate the goodness he brought into this world will be held at Temple Emek Shalom, 1800 E. Main Street, Ashland, on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

For the past five years, Mr. Silverman resided at Mountain View Retirement Residence in Ashland, having moved from Phoenix where he was a prominent leader in the Jewish community.

He is survived by his son Ron and daughter-in-law Myra of Ashland; son Andy and daughter-in-law Starr of Tucson; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Glenn Parkinson
Glenn Parkinson, 65, died unexpectedly on Friday (Sept. 19, 2003) while playing with his dog and preparing for a great day on the golf course.

Glenn was born in Grand Island, Nebraska and later moved to Oregon where he lived for many years settling in Medford and raising his family. He later moved to Orland, California in 1985 where he was residing at the time of his death.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1961 serving in Turkey. He married Glenna Walker in 1962 and they were married for 25 years. She preceded him in death.

He retired from Corning Lumber Co. and was currently working there part-time. He loved to play golf and also enjoyed fishing. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and dog.

He is survived by: daughters, Sandy Preston, and Kristin Jones, both of Medford; sons, Adam Parkinson of Corning, CA, and John Parkinson of Medford; one brother, Jerry Parkinson of Lakeview; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Cleo Christianson of Yuba City, CA, brother, Donald Parkinson of TX, and both his parents, Quin and Lillian Parkinson.

Memorial services will be Sat., Oct. 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. at F.D. Sweet & Son Mortuary, 825 A St. Orland, CA. Interment will be at Jacksonville cemetery, Jacksonville, OR. There will be a private family service Oct. 10 in Jacksonville.

Kenney B. Kinsner
Kenny B. Kinsner, 76, of the Rogue Valley, died Wednesday (Sept. 24, 2003) at 8 p.m. at Rogue Valley Medical Center. A private family service will be held.

He was born on September 17, 1927 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Raised in New Mexico, he joined the military during the second World War, and was also a veteran of the Korean War.

After the wars, he became an accomplished actor and writer with two major movies to his credit. He was also a successful salesman, oil executive, and insurance agent.

Kenney moved to the Rogue Valley in 1977 from southern California. He became a General Contractor, and after meeting his wife, they opened Busy Bees Housekeeping Service. Ken was an active member of the Arena Theater Company and the Medford Community Theater.

A loving and giving man, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, 6 children, 5 step- children, 8 grandchildren, 8 step- grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Kenney had a great passion for life, was a loving and supportive father, with an immeasurable sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.

Wanda Lucille Springer
Aug. 24, 1923 - Sept. 13, 2003 Memorial services for Wanda Lucille Springer were held Friday, Sept. 19, at the Hauser Community Church, 69411 Wildwood Drive, North Bend. Inurnment will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay.

Mrs. Springer, 80, of North Bend (formerly of Ashland) died Saturday (Sept. 13, 2003) at North Bend.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1923 in Dixonville, OR to Henry Samuel and Minnie Bea (Fenters) Hondrick.

Arrangements are with Nelsons Bay Area Mortuary, Coos Bay.

Elva Pearl Schweiger
A funeral service for Elva Pearl Schweiger will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2003 at 7 p.m., at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2003 at Earlham cemetery, Richmond, IN.

Those who wish may pay their respects at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Tuesday prior to the funeral service.

Mrs. Schweiger, 86, of Talent, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at Ashland Community Hospital. She was born August 27, 1917 at Boston, IN, the daughter of Edward L. Compton and the former Pearl Savilla Whitmore. She was raised in Richmond, IN. Through the years she was a clerk at Standard Food Market, Montgomery Wards, and Gause Floral Company. She also was a volunteer Gray Lady at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond, IN. She was a coin collector and enjoyed her grandchildren. She moved to Ashland in 1995.

On September 25, 1936 in Richmond, IN she married Edward Schweiger, who preceded her in death in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Ed Schweiger of Charlotte, NC, and John Schweiger of Ashland; one sister, Coral Lilly Halstead of Talent; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Community Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 98, Ashland, OR 97520, or the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 3101 S. W. Sam Jackson Park Road, Portland, OR 97201.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

James L. Smith
James L. Smith, 82, of Medford died Sept. 16, 2003 at Rogue Valley Dialysis Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thurs. Oct. 2, 2003 at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park. Chaplain John Braund of Asante Hospice will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Rogue Valley Dialysis Foundation, 2868 Creekside Circle, Medford, OR 97504.

Mr. Smith was born on March 9, 1921 at Hoxie, AR., a son of James Love and Pearl Goldon Compton Smith.

He attended Wayne Prep school at Wayne, NE. On July 7, 1946 in Susanville CA, he married Eunice M. Adam, who preceded him in death. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1954.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army.

He worked as an electrician.

Mr. Smith enjoyed his dog, Snitzer, keeping up with his grandkids, current events, visiting with friends, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and puttering.

Survivors include his daughters; Bette Kocina and Julie Smith both of Medford; Grandchildren, Heather Kocina and Corey Jacobs; Karla and Heath Kocina; and great-grandchild, Hannah Kocina. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; his parents; brother William O. Martin; and son-in-law, Douglas Kocina.

Leonard Lee Bradshaw A funeral service will be held for Leonard Lee Bradshaw on Wed. Oct. 1, 2003, at 1 p.m., at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Leonard was born on Nov. 23, 1911 in Medford, to Ira Lee and Nora (Charley) Bradshaw, he died Sept. 25, 2003 in Medford, at the age of 91.

Leonard had attended Little Butte Creek School. He married Gwendlyn Brophy in 1930 whom he later divorced, and then he married Millie (Meyer) Pettegrew in 1953 who preceded him in death in May of 1990.

Leonard was a Cattle Rancher. When Leonard was 17 years old he bought the Jim Culbertson place in Lake Creek and took up Ranching on his own.

He served on the Eagle Point School Board for many years and and was Bank Director at the First State Bank in Eagle Point.

Leonard enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was a member of the Medford Elks Lodge, an active Booster in 4-H and a member of the Cattleman's Association.

Leonard is survived by five children, Betty Cox Osborne of Medford, Judy McCalmant of Layton UT, Shirley Pettegrew Cook of Medford, Lee Pettegrew of White City, and Charles "Bud" Pettegrew of Eagle Point; four grandchildren, Shelly Funderburg of Eagle Point, Richard "Dick" Cox of Medford, Kathy Pimentel of Atwater, CA, and Kelly Day Nichol of Rocklin, CA; a nephew Lee Bradshaw of Eagle Point; a niece Val Bradshaw of Medford; numerous step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildern. Leonard is preceded in death by his wife, Millie, his brother Merton Bradshaw, a son Richard "Dick" Bradshaw, and graddaughter Susan Cox Thomas.
