Dianne Marie Barnes

Dianne Marie Barnes, 58 of White Mills, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Lackawanna County Health Care after a lengthy illness. She was lovingly cared for by the Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Born December 24, 1951 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of Thelma Aug Barnes, RN of White Mills and the late Glen R. Barnes. She was a lifelong resident of White Mills. She graduated from Wallenpaupack Area High School and was also a graduate of Lackawanna Community College with an associates degree in business which was a great accomplishment in her life. She was employed at Cove Haven as a receptionist until taking ill.

She loved animals and the springtime when all the birds began to sing.

She was extremely proud of her only child, Carey Lynne Counterman of Honesdale and loved her beyond words. Dianne was delighted that Carey found an amazing partner, her husband Shane Counterman. Together, Carey and Shane have a daughter Isabella Rose and Dianne's spirit will be remembered to her always. She would have been overjoyed to know her granddaughter and have watched her grow up.

Also surviving is her sister Melody Gibbs and husband David of Unionville, CT, a sister Nancy DeYoung and husband Jeffrey of White Mills, a brother Gerard Barnes and wife Susan of White Mills and a sister Melissa Knecht and husband Kevin of Phoenix, AZ; her nieces and nephews who she loved dearly Corrin Gibbs Burke and husband Jamie, Justin Gibbs, Cassandra DeYoung, Eric DeYoung and wife Jennifer, Joel DeYoung, Nicholas, Jessica, and Meggan Barnes, Joshua and Olivia Varcoe and Tanner Knecht.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will be in the spring in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5-8 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Mary Theresa Koropchak

Mary Theresa Koropchak, 63 of Honesdale, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 28, 2010 at home. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Dennis Koropchak. The couple married May 13, 1967.

Born February 24, 1947 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Cecelia Clemo Ham. A housewife and mother, Mary also was a secretary over the years for several businesses, including Moore Business Forms. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

Mary enjoyed gardening and planting flowers with her husband and loved animals. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Also surviving is her son Ken Koropchak and wife Lisa of DuBoistown, PA and her daughter Denise Regruto and husband Gene of Medford, NJ; sisters Margaret Palmer and husband Michael of Florida and Catherine Racht and husband Al of Tunkhannock; grandchildren Madison and Gavin Koropchak and Evan and Garrett Regruto.

As per her request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory and a graveside service will be held in the spring at St.

John's Cemetery. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Rd. Honesdale, PA 18431.

Kathryn R. Holbert

Kathryn R. Holbert, 90 of Honesdale, died Friday, February 26, 2010 at Brighton at Julia Ribaudo Home in Lake Ariel. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester L. Holbert December 26, 2007. The couple married July 25, 1938 and enjoyed 69 years together.

Born November 5, 1919 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Bracey Polt. She was a life long resident of Honesdale and the last surviving member of her family. Katie was very loving housewife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed happy times with her family.

For many years she was a bookkeeper at Holbert Airport and also helped her husband operate Holbert Farm Equipment.

Kathryn was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a past member of Texas #4 Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary; Fraternal Order of Eagles #1858 and VFW Ladies Auxiliaries.

She is survived by her 3  daughters Kathleen Hunter, Mary Ellen LaPoint and husband Jim and Margaret Davis all of Honesdale; grandchildren Lisa Canfield and husband Lloyd, James LaPoint and wife Carrie, Jill LaPoint, Harold Davis II, Steven Davis, Mark Davis and wife Deb; eleven great grandchildren; sister-in-law Isabella Polt; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Leo, Jack, Vincent and Robert Polt; sisters Helen Kelly, Mary Martin and Regina Vannatta Potratz; sons-in-law Glen Hunter and Harold Davis and a great granddaughter Nichelle M. Canfield.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM. Private interment will be at a later date in Indian Orchard Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Diakon Hospice St. John, 416 Main St. Suite D, Honesdale, PA 18431 or donor's favorite charity.

Robert Joseph Menotti

Robert Joseph Menotti, 52 of Honesdale, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at home. He is survived by his wife of four years, the former Deborah Jean Joseph. The couple married July 2, 2005.

Born November 2, 1957 in Honesdale, he is the son of the former Angela C. Doherty of Honesdale and the late Robert L. Menotti. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1975 and in 1977 he graduated from Williamsport Area Community College with certification in Diesel Mechanics. For 30 years he was a diesel mechanic working with several companies. Most recently was self employed and in the past worked for Woodbridge Builders, Halahan Enterprises, Keystone Landfill and Leeward Construction.

Robert was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 20 years, the Alerts Fire Co., and Fox Ridge Sportsmans Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, being outdoors, playing cards and had a love of automobiles.

Also surviving are his sons Adore Menotti and wife Danielle of Honesdale, Nicholas Menotti of Honesdale and Dustin Menotti and fiancee Lauren of Forest City; brothers Terrance and wife Sandra of Cherry Ridge, John and wife Sue of Hawley and Martin and wife Kathy of Honesdale; grandchildren Emma and Blake; also many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant sister Julianna.

As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 6 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale with The Reverend Edward

K. Erb, pastor of Grace Episcopal Church officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 to service time.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S. Keyser Ave. Taylor, PA 18517.

Robert M. Malloy

Robert M. Malloy, 41 of East Stroudsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, February 18, 2010 at his home.

Born November 28, 1968 in Honesdale, he is the son of John and Rachel Turner Malloy of Honesdale. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School. Bob worked for 22 years at Caesars Starwood Resorts where he found many friends. He was a member of the Roman Catholic faith.

Bob loved his time spent with his nieces and nephews, Benjamin, Nickolas, Emma and Alyssa Stumpo and Connor Ford.

Also surviving is his brother Thomas K. Malloy of Morton, PA; sisters Karen Stumpo and husband Richard and Susan Ford and husband Dennis all of Honesdale; his maternal grandmother Alta Turner; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

As per his request cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 AM.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50 Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

Ronald Joseph Benson

Ronald Joseph Benson, 61 of Equinunk, died unexpectedly Monday, February 15, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, the former Geraldine "Geri Lou" Guidetti. The couple married June 19, 1976.

Born December 23, 1948 in Staten Island, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Ellen Raff Benson. He was a graduate of McKee High School in Staten Island. He was a US Army veteran who served in Vietnam where earned a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Later he worked as a security guard at Willowbrook Center in Staten Island and then retired from Delaware Valley Job Corps in Callicoon.

Ronald was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was active in its Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. A faithful man, he also was a member of the Order of St. Francis, Knights of Columbus Council 363 and Arise Jerusalem Ministry. He was a past member of the Equinunk Fire Co.

He enjoyed his Lionel Trains and setting them up at Christmas, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. Ron was also an avid avian enthusiast.

Also surviving is his son Joshua Benson of Florida; his  daughters Jane Marie Skinner and husband Chris of Beach Lake and Marianne Benson of Equinunk; his grandchildren Gabriel, Camden and Tristan Skinner and Justin, Michael, Nicholas and Maria Benson.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 9:30AM. As per his request, cremation will follow at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. Interment will be in the spring. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday 3 to 6.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John the Evangelist Parish,
414 Church St. Honesdale, PA 18431.

Sylvia Gibbons, 87 of Honesdale, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Gibbons.

Born March 8, 1922 in Bronx, NY she was the daughter of the late Vincenziuina and Corrado Rositto Calderella. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and later was the Head Housekeeper at Union Hospital in Bronx until retiring.

Sylvia loved her family and all their gatherings. A fun loving mother and grandmother, she loved a good joke, playing cards, other games and watching golf. She will be greatly missed by many and always loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Pat Carrier and husband Dan of Beach Lake; 4 granddaughters and their husbands; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale by Rev. Michael Lyle. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11 to service time.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S. Keyser Ave. Taylor, PA 18517.

William (Bill) Daniels

William (Bill) Daniels, 70 of Equinunk, died Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Asera Care
Hospice at Mid Valley Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is
survived by his wife of 30 years, the former Deborah A. Francese. The couple married
January 18, 1980.

Born November 11, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Frank and Lorraine
Stevens Daniels. He was a US Army veteran who served in Germany during peacetime. After
retiring from New York Telephone he and his wife moved to Northeast Pennsylvania with
their daughter DJ. In Pennsylvania, Bill enjoyed driving School Bus for the Wayne
Highlands School District, working for St. Vincent's School and teaching his cycling
classes at a local gym.

Among some of his favorite things to do in his spare time was to coach a Missy Softball
team with his daughter, watching the New York Yankees and New York Rangers.

Also surviving is his  daughters Deborah Jill "DJ" at home and Laura Daniels Kile of
Carolina; a brother Lew Daniels and wife Lea of Long Island; a sister-in-law; nieces and
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Frank.

As per his request cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. The family will
receive friends on Tuesday from 3 to 6 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Funeral services will be private at the families convenience.

Esther Elizabeth Gay

Esther Elizabeth Gay, 88 of Honesdale died Monday, February 8, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband John Gay on February 18, 1998. The couple married June 8, 1968.

Born October 31, 1921 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Christine T. Kuhn Stegner. A graduate of Honesdale High School, she later worked for PP&L in Honesdale and then transferred to Harrisburg.

She was a past member of the Catholic  daughters of the Americas, Court St. Martin and a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

She is survived by her sister Helen A. Stegner, RN of Honesdale; nieces Christine Hannagan of Boulder, CO and Patricia Grooves of Boynton Beach, FL; nephews Walter Hook Jr. and Donald Wilhelm; great nieces Lindsay and Gillian Hannagan.

She was preceded in death by her sister Ruth C. Carragher; a brother John H. Stegner and a nephew Michael Carragher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to Mass in church from 9 to 10.

Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Emily Richter

Emily Richter, 87, a resident at Bethany Village, died peacefully Sunday, January 24, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born, November 3, 1922 in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Krempasky (Czechoslovakia) and Victoria Rose Buzawa Krempasky
(Poland) and raised in Cherry Ridge, where she went to school in a one room schoolhouse. She belonged to St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in White Mills. Emily enjoyed a long, happy and successful life.

She owned and operated The Redwood Inn from the late 1960's until 1971 with her husband Charles Frindt and introduced the famous "Boston Bar Beef" to the Pocono's. She and Charles were Pekiomen State Archery Champions in 1953.

For many years, the family gathered at the home of Emily and her beloved second husband, Gary Richter who died Sept. 29, 1988. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, and was well known for making her own pieorgies from a recipe handed down from generations.

Emily's  Father, Andrew married 19 year old Victoria Rose, after his first wife died shortly after giving birth, bring his children to the family, Helen, Mary, her twin brother Edward and infant Martin, who all preceded her in death.

Emily is survived by her younger brothers Joseph and Andrew Krempasky of Honesdale and younger sisters Margaret Syrylo of Phoenixville and Ann Sak of New Jersey.

She was greatly loved by her children, daughter Victoria Murray Fritsch of Honesdale; son Charles Frindt of Tafton; and  daughters Cheryl Cosby of Bedford Hills, NY and Kimberly Best of Waymart; grandchildren CJ Murry of Sandy, UT, Julie Murray Gilbert and Jacilyn Fritsch both of Honesdale, Jeff Frindt of Tafton, Carmen Cosby Smith of Wilmington, NC, Summer and LeighAnn Cosby of Yonkers, NY, Victoria Rose and Nicholas Best of Waymart. Great grandchildren Alex and Kami of Tafton, Madelyn and Alana of Wilmington, NC and Alessandria of NY.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Cherie Gilbert, Certified Nurses Aide at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a life long friend, who took loving care of our mother and family in our time of need. She will be greatly remembered.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale on Thursday at 10 AM. Entombment will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday from 5 to 8.

Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Village, 150 Noble Ln., Bethany, PA 18431 where Emily was loved by both staff and residents alike, especially her best friend Mary.
