Ross A. Cobb

September 30, 2005

Ross A. Cobb, 44, Lake Ariel, died Friday morning as a result of an automobile accident. His widow is the former Pauline Rizzo.

Born in Carbondale, son of Betty M. Fahrenbach Cobb, Lake Ariel and the late Homer A. Cobb he was a 1979 graduate of Western Wayne High School and Johnson Technical School. He was of the protestant faith.

He was a devoted husband, stepfather and grandfather. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed being with family and friends.

Surviving are step-sons Jimmy Edwards of Northampton, Michael Molewski of Bethlehem, and William Molewski of Lake Ariel; step- daughters Susan Edwards of Lake Ariel, Darlene Mayernik of Mansfield, NJ, Judy Cerra of Scranton and Samantha Edwards of Center Valley; sisters Rosalind Williams, Sally Wilson-Huffstutler, and Susan Swingle all of Lake Ariel; twelve grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Ron Onder.

Friends may call Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Interment , East Canaan Cemetery.

John Buckingham

September 28, 2005

John Buckingham, White Mills, died Wednesday at home after an illness.

Born in Blooming Grove, son of the late William and Annie Legg Buckingham he was a member of the Aldenville Baptist Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Culver County Road Department in Indiana. He was a United States Army Veteran.

Surviving are sons Harold of Washington, Charles of Colorado, David of Arizona, and John B. of Illinois;  daughters Sayla Buckingham of Texas, Sharon Buckingham of Florida, Hannah Bradley and Mable Buckingham both of Indiana; a brother William of White Mills; sisters Adelaide Schmidt of Scranton, Mary Van Leuvan of Lake Ariel and Lois Ace of Chester, NJ; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son Anthony; a daughter Bessie; a sister Marion E. Clarmont.

Services were private at the convenience of the family.

Interment, Maplewood Evangelical Cemetery, Maplewood.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice St. John 1007 Oak St. Pittston Twp., Pa. 18640.

Jeffrey P. Beischer

Sept. 27, 2005

Jeffrey P. Beischer, Sterling, died Tuesday at home.

Born in Carbondale, son of James P. and Virginia Rotell Beischer, Sr., of Sterling, he was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Newfoundland. He was employed by as an Over the Road Truck Driver and formerly as a plumber. He attended Western Wayne High School.

Surviving are a son Antony of Lackawaxen; brothers James Jr. of Easley, SC and Christopher of Cliffside Park, NJ; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a sister Anita Marie Beischer.

The funeral will be Saturday at 9am from the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with Mass to be celebrated at 10am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Route 191 Newfoundland.

Friends may call Friday from 5-8pm.

Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

Elizabeth G. Wood

September 15, 2005

Elizabeth G. Wood, Sterling, died Thursday at home following a vigilant battle with cancer. She was a member of the Sterling United Methodist Church and happily married to the Rev. Robert L. Wood for 37 years.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late R. Nevin and Mae E. Osborne Gilpin.

As a youth, she was a Girl Scout, member of FHA, and active in church choir and youth activities. A graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and Mansfield University she earned a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of the Kappa Omicorn Nu Honor Society. Throughout her life she worked as a substitute teacher in the Lackawanna Trail and Newark Valley school districts. Prior to her illness, she worked as Administrative Assistant to the District Superintendents of the Scranton and Binghamton Districts of the Wyoming Conference of the United Methodist Church and served on the Wyoming Conference Shared Leadership Table. She continued to serve on the Wyoming Conference Board of Ordained Ministries where she had acted as the registrar of Deacons. She had been active in the United Methodist Women on local, district, conference, and jurisdiction levels, served on the Wyoming Conference School of Christian Missions Committee and the Conference Board of Diakonal Ministries. She and her husband were Certified Leaders in Marriage Enrichment Inc. and the Celebrating Marriage programs. Early in her life she had been active in both the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs, as well as working in the Dalton Sellers Shop. As founder and director of the Dalton Preschool, she continued her love for teaching as well as serving in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. She worked as a volunteer church secretary for forty years and had been a member of the Whitney Point Shakespeare Club.

Surviving are a son Robert N. and his wife Kathleen of Dalton, with  daughters Breanna and Kayla, and son Richard W. and his wife Tricia of Doyelstown, with children Alexander and Hannah.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Sterling United Methodist Church Route 196 Sterling officiated by Reverends: Betty Poe, Charles Johns, Pat Lee, and Robert L. Wood. Family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at the church followed by

Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.

Georgiana B. Anderson

September 11, 2005

Georgiana Anderson, Lake Ariel, died Sunday in the Brighten at Julia Ribuado Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Frederick O. Anderson.

Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Homer and Anna Miller Bidwell she was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and was a member of the Howe Memorial Methodist Church in Florida. She was a member of the Methodist Women’s Club and was a volunteer at the Thrift Shop.

Surviving are a son William F. Anderson of Hopewell, NJ;  daughters Beverly Brown of Southampton, NJ and Karen Anderson of Gainsville, Fl; sisters Wanda Sachse of Madisonville and Geraldine Treat of White Mills; grandchildren Joanne Welther, Kristin Carroll, Eric and Jeff Anderson; great grandchildren Frederick and Megan Welther and Moira Carroll.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Jan Tiebert pastor of the White Mills United Methodist Church.

Friends may call Wednesday from 10:30am until time of service.

Interment, Arlington Cemetery.

Chad J. Seeley

Sept. 3, 2005

Chad J. Seeley, Sterling, died unexpectedly Saturday in Lake Ariel. His wife is the former Tracy Korotky.

Born in Scranton, son of Stanley and Bernice Minor Seeley of Lake Ariel, he was a 1998 graduate of Western Wayne High School. He was employed by the Stag Construction Company.

Chad touched every0one that he met. He was a hunter and loved to take trips with his best friends. As a son, brother, husband, and friend, he will be sadly missed. He was a gentle soul who would do anything to help anyone. Chad will always be remembered by his family and friends.

Surviving are maternal grandparents James and Rita Minor, Aldenville; a paternal grandfather Stanley Seeley, Pittston; a brother Nick of Lake Ariel; several cousins; several aunts and uncles.

The funeral will be Thursday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd, Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Ron Onder.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm

Interment, East Canaan Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the family.

John R. Hoke

August 31, 2005

John R. Hoke, a resident of the Hideout, Lake Ariel died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. His wife is the former Jane Finley.

Born in New York State he was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hamlin. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a free lance commercial artist. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, an advisor to the Order of the Eastern Star, the Hamlin Fire & Rescue Company, the Wayne County Fire Police and the Northeastern Fire Police Assoc. He was a United States Army veteran.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 7pm in the St. John’s Episcopal Church Route 191 Hamlin, Rev. Canon Edward K. Erb, officiating.

Friends may call Tuesday at the church from 6 until time of service.

Lenore Ann Karp

August 26, 2005

Lenore Ann Karp, 41, Lake Ariel and Queens, NY, died suddenly on August 26, 2005.

Born in Brooklyn, NY beloved daughter of Richard and Eleanor Karp she was a graduate of Chatham Twp. High School, New Jersey and attended York and Utica colleges. She was employed for many years as a travel agent.

She was a loving daughter who will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Surviving are her brothers Richard and wife Wendy of Randolph, NJ and Michael and his wife Lori of Bakersfield, Ca.; her loving aunt Mary McEwan and her husband Jim of Lake Ariel; aunts Joan Friedman and Margaret Karp; several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on September 1, 2005 in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Ledgedale.

Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

Audrey R. Haas

August 31, 2005

Audrey R. Haas, Lake Ariel, formerly of Wurtsboro, New York died Wednesday evening in the Brighten at Julia Ribuado Senior Care Center after an illness. Her husband is Louis Haas.

Born in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Patrick and Anna Wahleg Hughes she was a graduate of LaGuardia Community College. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a greeter at the Wal-Mart in Monticello, New York.

Surviving are sons Pat of Staten Island and Chris of West Babylon, NY;  daughters Vickey Laney of Milford and Patrice Pardo of Deer Park, NY; a brother Edward Hughes of CA; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a son Louis Haas.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at a time to be announced in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

Gladys E. Collins

August 27, 2005

Gladys E. Collins, Lake Ariel, died Saturday in the Lackawanna County Health Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Joseph W. Collins who died in 1998.

Born in Waymart, daughter of the late William and Cora Short. She was a graduate of the Waymart High School and was of the Methodist faith. Prior to retirement she and her husband owned and operated the Collins Grocery Store in Lake Ariel.

She worked and lived for her children and grandchildren and loved to garden.

Surviving are two sons: Dr. Dale and his wife Cindee of Clarks Summit and Dean and his wife Patricia of Lake Ariel; grandchildren Jennifer Clark, Chelsea Collins, Richele and John Michael Kolcun; a great grandson Aaron Clark.

Preceded in death by two grandsons Scott and Justin Collins; brothers Lester, Edgar, Richard, and Harold Short; a sister Mildred Dipple.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Lori Stefensen, pastor of the Clarks Green United Methodist Church.

Friends may call Monday from 6-8pm.

Interment, Keen Cemetery.
