Jane F. Hoke

March 15, 2006

Jane F. Hoke, Lake Ariel, died Wednesday in the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. She was the widow of John R. Hoke who died in 2005.

Born in Watertown, NY daughter of the late J. Charles and Clarissa Simmons Finley. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Hamlin. Prior to retirement she had been employed by the New York Telephone Company as a District Manager. She was involved with the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a brother J. Charles Finley, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 12:30pm in St. John’s Episcopal Church Route 191 Hamlin with services by Rev. Canon Edward Erb.

Friends may call Sunday from 11:30am until time of service.

Harry F. Mitchell

March 20, 2006

Harry F. Mitchell, a resident of Scranton, died Monday afternoon in the Mercy Hospital Hospice Unit.

Born in Scranton, son of the late James and Rose Marie Buchman Mitchell, Sr. he was a graduate of the Somerset County Vocational High School, New Jersey. He had been employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot as a sandblaster. He was a United States Navy veteran.

Surviving are a daughter Michelle Mitchell of Allentown; brothers David and James both of New Jersey, Raymond and Wayne both of Scranton; sisters Karen Giles of Kentucky and Barbara Moore of Pa; a granddaughter Shyann; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel by Revs. Pat Lee and Art Davis

Friends may call Friday morning from 10am until time of service.

Interment, Fairview Memorial Park.

Martha Jeanette Shaffer Coccodrilli

March 18, 2006

Martha Coccodrilli Martha Jeanette Shaffer Coccodrilli, South Canaan, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning in the VNA Hospice at the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness. Her loving husband of 64 years is James Coccodrilli, Sr.

Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Howard and Susan Enslin Shaffer she was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and was a member of St. Thomas More Church. She had been employed by Caesar’s Cove Haven Resort for 30 years retiring as Executive Chef/Director of Foods for Caesar’s Resorts in the Pocono’s. Her work ethic, dedication, and talent earned her the Martha Jeanette Coccodrilli Achievement Award. The award was created in her name, awarded to her and has been awarded to an outstanding employee at one of the five Caesar Resorts in the Pocono’s for 24 years.

Martha had one great love and that was her family. The greatest gift Martha gave her family was her love and the legacy of love for family.

Surviving are sons James and his wife Geri Coccodrilli of Michigan, Rich Coccodrilli and his wife Johanna of Dunmore, Robert and his wife Linda Coccodrilli of Sterling and Gary Coccodrilli of Lake Ariel; a daughter in law Margy Coccodrilli of Lake Ariel; eight grandchildren Jamie, Rich, Jr., Jeff, Jason, and Ryan Coccodrilli, Courtney Sobczak, Kirsten Coccodrilli-Ellet, Heather Coccodrilli-Compton; eleven great grandchildren Bonnie, Meagan, and Ashley Van Orden, Kayla, Nicholas, Tucker, Anna, and Morgan Coccodrilli, Kendall and Keegan Sobzcak, and Ava Coccodrilli-Compton; nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Wilfred, Norman, Cecil, and Ronnie Shaffer; sisters Florence Strackbein and Mary Daniels.

Everyone planning on attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church Wednesday morning.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Interment, St. John’s Cemetery, Jessup.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County 301 Delaware Ave. Olyphant, Pa. 18447.

Margaret "Sally" Cawley

March 14, 2006

Margaret "Sally" Cawley of Ledgedale died Tuesday morning in Mercy Hospital . She was preceded in death by two husbands Robert Hawk and James P. Cawley.

Born in Scranton daughter of the late Joseph J & Lena Nelson Reddington. She was a member of St Thomas More and St Mary’s Churches, Lake Ariel & Ledgedale. Prior to retirement she had been employed in the garment industry.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Thomas Reddington.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Interment Hollisterville cemetery.

Richard A. McLain, Jr.

March 1, 2006

Richard A. McLain, Jr., Sterling Township, died Wednesday in the Community Medical Center. His widow is the former Kim Hoover.

Born in Scranton, son of Clara Malcolm McLain of Sterling and the late Richard McLain, Sr. who died in 1995. He was a graduate of Western Wayne High School and was attended the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, Hamlin. He was a self employed logger.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are sons Richard McLain, III and Grant McLain; a sister Linda Mailen all of Sterling.

The funeral will be Monday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Gordon White, pastor of the Pentecostal Assembly of God Church, Hamlin.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Randall M. Randy Miller

February 14, 2006

Randall M. (Randy) Miller of Mechanicsburg died Tuesday at Harrisburg Hospital. His widow is the former Judith Rinck. He was born Carbondale son of the late Jesse and Mary Emory Miller.

He was a graduate of Bryan College and received his Masters Degree from Pensacola College. He had been employed by Pa House of Representatives and was a former Elementary teacher in Wayne county for many years. He was a long time member of Bible Baptist Church Shiremanstown and also attended Daybreak Church of CMA, Mechanicsburg.

Surviving are a daughter Carol Graham and her husband Alan of Shiremanstown; a son Paul and his wife Kerrie of Landisburg; sisters Lois Shaffer of South Canaan and Lenore Frey of Sparta, NJ; brothers Ernest of South Canaan, Donald of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada; grandchildren Jason, Krista, Nathan, Kayla, Hunter and Kodie; his mother in law Mina Rinck.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at Noon in the Canaan Bible Chapel ,Hemlock Rd, South Canaan.

Interment East Canaan Cemetery, South Canaan.

Friends may call Monday morning from 10 am until service time at the church.

Nettie L. Ridgeway

February 13, 2006

Nettie L. Ridgeway, formerly of Hollisterville, died Monday morning in St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home. Her husband was the late Clarence J. Ridgeway who died in 1993. The couple was married June 18, 1936.

Born in Hollisterville, son of the late Charles and Frances Chedster Fueglein. She was a member of the Hollisterville United Methodist Church and loved to play the piano and sing in the choir. She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge Order of the Eastern Star since 1955.

She was a loving and caring grandma who enjoyed baking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and loved spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are granddaughters, Michelle Noble, Lake Ariel, and Stacey Koch, Hamlin; sisters Margaret Brooks, Conklin, NY and Millicent Weed, Moscow; Great grandchildren, Shawna, Mark, Ian, Brandie, Alyssa, Nicholas, Nathan.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Maury; a brother Robert Fueglehn; a sister Ida Savitz.

A special thank you to all of the staff, friends, and "family" at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home for the wonderful compassion and care given over the years.

The Funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Road, Lake Ariel with services the Rev. Pat Lee, pastor of the Hollisterville United Methodist Church.

Interment, Private in Hollisterville Cemetery.

Friends may call Thursday from 10:00am until the time of service at the funeral home.

Mary J. Gershey Pesarcik

February 12, 2006

Mary J. Gershey Pesarcik, Lake Ariel, died Sunday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. Her husband is Andrew Pesarcik.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Durech Gershey she attended the Salem Consolidated School. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale. Prior to retirement, she was employed in the garment industry in New York and Pennsylvania.

Surviving are brothers Joseph of Lake Ariel, Stanley of Moscow, and George Davailius of Lake Ariel; sisters Josephine James of Taylor, Elizabeth Davailius of Lake Ariel and Ann Shearer of Horseheads, New York; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a son Bernard Thomas Mozdenski; a brother Louis Gershey and Anthony Davailius.

Anyone planning on attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30am in St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale.

Edward J. Pruss

February 6, 2006

Edward J. Pruss, Ledgedale, died Monday evening in the Allied Service Skilled Care Center after an illness. His widow is the former Eleanor A. Wycko.

Born in Ledgedale, son of the late Stanley and Rose Wielojosz Pruss, Sr. he was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated High School. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale and it’s Holy Name Society. Prior to retirement he had been self employed as a dairy farmer. He also served many years as a Salem Township Supervisor. He was also a member of the Ledgedale Fire Company and was a forty year 4-H Leader.

Surviving are a son Edward D. Pruss of Ledgedale;  daughters Margaret Miller and her husband John of Mt. Wolf, Pa., Christina Salak and her husband Donald of Waymart, and Mary V. Pruss of Scranton; a sister Pauline Soska of Florida; grandchildren David Miller, SFC Robert, Ellen, and Bernadine Salak; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by brothers Stanley, Anthony, and Paul Pruss; a sister Anna Perkosky Astringer.

Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30am in St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale.

Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
