Alice J. Jenkins

October 6, 2007

Alice J. Jenkins, Honesdale, formerly of LakeAriel, died Saturday morning at the Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. Her husband was the late Edgar F. Jenkins, former Superintendent of the Western Wayne School District.

Born in Damascus, daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Vail Tegler, she was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church. She was graduated from Damascus High School in 1936 and Ryder College in 1939 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Prior to her marriage she was employed as secretary in Trenton, NJ.

Surviving are a son Thomas, Superintendent of the Wayne Highlands School District, and his wife Beverly, Honesdale; sisters Irene Teglar, Honesdale and Evelyn Glatz, Maine; grandchildren Amanda, Jonathan, Douglas, Michael, Paul R., Jason, and Tamy; 11 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son Paul; brothers Otto and Fred; a sister Betty; and a granddaughter Katie Jenkins.

The Funeral will be Thursday at 10:00am in the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church.

Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and Thursday at 9:00-10:00am at the Church. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Wayne Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit 601 Park St. Honesdale, Pa. 18431, Ellen Memorial Health Care Center Patient Activities Fund, Golf Hill Rd. Honesdale, Pa. 18431.

Joanne R. Newman, R.N.

October 3, 2007

Joanne R. Newman, R.N., 61, resident of Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Center, died Wednesday at the Moses Taylor Hospital after an illness.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late James and Laura Newman, she was a graduate of Ralph J. Osgood High School, New York. She was of the Catholic faith. Prior to retirement she worked for 15 years as a nurse at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center.

Joanne was an avid reader and loved to knit and crochet. Some of her favorites were Elvis Presley and Chuck Norris, watching wrestling (along with screaming for her favorite wrestler Hulk Hogan), listening to country music and she also lover to take lessons to learn how to play her guitar. She was a very spiritual person and enjoyed singing on St. Joseph’s Church’s choir in Kings Park, NY. She was very well known for her kindness and always enjoyed helping and caring for others.
Joanne took great pride in helping raise her younger brother, James from the time she was 16 years old. She got a great joy attending her niece’s events and watching her grow up. She was a very family oriented woman. She was a kind, gentle woman, loving sister, aunt and friend who had great faith and will be deeply missed forever.

Surviving are a brother James and his fiancé Theresa, Lakeville; a niece Holly, Lakeville; several Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins.
The Funeral will be Saturday at 9:00am from the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30am in St. Thomas More Church Corner of Rt. 296 and Tresslarville Rd., Lake Ariel.

Friends may call Friday from 4-8pm.

Interment will take place Monday in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.

Elizabeth P. Morcom

Sept. 30, 2007

Elizabeth P. Morcom 93, Hollisterville, died Sunday night in the Golden Livivng Center, Scranton after an illness. She was the widow of John R. Morcom Sr, who died in 1983.

Born in Blakely, daughter of the late Richard and Mary Phillips Evans. She was a graduate of the Lackawanna Business College. She was a member of the Hollisterville Bible Church. Prior to retirement she had been employed by Casual Sports wear in Dickson City and Gouldsboro Industrial Electrical . Manufacturing.

Surviving are sons Robert and John Jr both of Hollisterville, and William R. of Milford, Pa  daughters Mary Morcom of Fairhaven, NY and Sandra Babitz of Hamburg, NJ; fifteen grandchildren;18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel. With services by Rev William Williams former pastor of Hollisterville Bible Church.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm.
Interment, Hollisterville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hollisterville Bible Church c/o Betty Morcom 32 Watts Rd. Moscow, Pa. 18444.

Jean M. Watkins

September 27, 2007

Jean M. Watkins, Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Lake Ariel, died Thursday evening at the V.N.A. Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center. Her husband of 66 years is Maxwell 'Max' Watkins.
Born in Flint, MI, daughter of the late Robert and Jean Young, she was a founding member of the W.L.E. Women’s Club. Prior to retirement she had been employed at Horn and Hardart’s Automat and Shell Oil Company.

Also surviving are sons Mark R., Honesdale and William, Oregon; grandchildren William and and his wife Denise; great-grandchildren Emily, Julia, and Brennan.

She was preceded in death by a brother Robert and a sister Catherine Young.

The Funeral will be Tuesday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Pastor David O’Brien.

Friends may call Monday 5:00-8:00pm.
Interment, Lakeville Cemetery, Lakeville.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite animal shelter.

John A. Mitchell, Sr.

Sept. 27, 2007

John A. Mitchell, Sr., Moscow, died Thursday morning in the Brighten at Julia Ribuado Senior Care Center after an illness. His wife was the former Junetta Sheerer who died in 2006.

Born in Drinker, son of the late John Alvin and Maude Isabell Wood Mitchell. He attended Jefferson Twp. Schools. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the James Morrisey Construction Company working in road construction. He was United Sates Army Veteran serving during World War II.

Surviving are  daughters Jane M. Ward and Katherine I. Mitchell both of Drinker; sons John A., Jr of Hollisterville, William L. of Maplewood, and Elmer F. of Drinker; sister Martha Bird of Wimmers; brother Butler E. Mitchell of Scranton; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister Mable Cavill and a brother James Emory.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Saturday morning from 9am until time of service in the funeral home.

Interment, Hollisteville Cemetery.

Vito Bonventre

September 17, 2007

Vito Bonventre, Lake Ariel, died Monday at Lehigh Valley Hospital after an illness. His wife of 53 years is the former Margaret Saponaro Bonventre.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Frank and Catherine Licausi
Bonventre, he was a member of St. Thomas More/St. Mary’s Parish Community. Prior to retirement he was employed as a truck driver for Dairy Test in New York.

Also surviving are a son William, Lake Ariel and a daughter-in-law
Geraldine, Jersey City, N.J.; grandchildren Nicole, Raquel, and Danielle.

He was preceded in death by sons Frank and Richard.

The Funeral will be Friday at 9:15am from the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00am in St. Mary’s Church, Ledgedale.

Friends may call Thursday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ledgedale.

Regina D. Kiernan

September 13, 2007

Regina D. Kiernan, Hawley P.A., formerly of Levittown, N.Y. died Thursday at the Community Medical Center from injuries suffered after an accident earlier in the week.

Born in Oceanside, N.Y., adored daughter of Dan and Diane Fischer Kiernan, she was a graduate of McArthur High School and attended Nassau County Community College. She has been employed as a carpenter’s assistant.

Surviving are brothers Scott and his wife Deidre Kiernan, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Ryan Kiernan, Bethpage, N.Y.; a sister Marianne Kiernan and her boyfriend Kevin Driscoll, Levittown, N.Y.; a niece Aine Kiernan; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends may call Saturday from 1:30-5pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel and Sunday from 7-9pm and Monday from 2-5pm and 7-9pm in the Dalton Funeral Home 2786 Hempstead Turnpike Levittown, NY 11756.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Frances de Chantal Church 1309 Wantagh Ave. Wantagh, N.Y. 11793 Interment , St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, NY.

Lynn K. Haser

Sept. 11, 2007

Lynn K. Haser, Cherry Ridge, died Tuesday afternoon at home after an illness. She was the widow of Richard H Haser who died in 1983.

Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late George and Pearl Chapman
Rauschmeier. She was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School and attended the former Wayne Commercial School for 2 years. Prior to retirement she had been employed as a commercial artist with her brother Neil. She was a member of the Hamlin Senior Citizens Center.

She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She loved to
scrapbook and do art work with her brother Neil and his wife Terry. She also loved to garden and tend to her flowers, reading, her family and many friends at the Hamlin Senior Center. She especially loved her dog Rocky.

Surviving are a son George and his wife Deanna; a daughter Kathleen Haser; a brother Neil Rauschmeier and his wife Terry all of Cherry Ridge; two grandchildren Sarah and Matthew.

Preceded in death by a sister Betty.

The funeral will be held Friday at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Kirt Gustafson.

Friends may call Friday morning from 10am until time of service.

Interment, East Canaan Cemetery.

Florence I. Keill, S. Canaan, died Wednesday at the Brighten at Julia Ribaudo Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of the late Robert F. Keill.

Born in Lake Ariel, daughter of the late Harold and Minnie Shaffer Lamberton, she was a member of the Canaan Bible Chapel.

Surviving are sons R. Douglas and his wife M. Stewart, Lake Ariel, Donald and his wife Diane, Powell, Wy.; a daughter Patricia Biddlecombe and her husband Harold, Honesdale; sisters Betty Frey and Helen Amorine, both of S. Canaan; grandchildren Robert W., Alison M., Tracy, Gretchen, Donna, Douglas, Darryl; great-grandchildren Robbie, Jacob, Jeremy, Alex, Justin, Brandon, Tammy, Tyler, Steven, Jessica, Anthony; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brothers Robert, Daniel, Frank, Donald, Jerry; a sister Doris Bloomgarder.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt. 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Dan Baker and Rev. Matt Wolfe.

Friends may call Friday 5:00-8:00pm.

Interment, East Canaan Cemetery, S. Canaan.
