Edward J. McQuade
April 14, 2007

Edward J. McQuade, Lake Ariel, died Saturday night in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife is the former Dorothy Schnell.

Born in Manhattan, son of the late Owen and Kathryn Forms McQuade he was a member of the St. Thomas More/St. Mary's Parish Community, Lake Ariel. Prior to retirement he had been
employed as a plummer and was also a member of the Teamsters Union.

Surviving are sons Jeff and his wife Jeannine and Brian and his wife Kathleen all of Long Island and Edward of Clarks Summit;  daughters Brenda Lidy and her husband Richard of Greenfield Twp., Diane Dietz and her husband Harry of Florida, and Carol McQuade of New York; a brother Oney McQuade of Florida; sisters Mary Dolan and Helen McQuade both of New York; twelve grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Anyone planning on attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church. Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30am in St. Mary's Church, St. Mary's Rd. Ledgedale.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.

Leland C. "Jake" Field
April 13, 2007

Leland C. "Jake" Field, Hamlin, died Friday at home after an illness. His widow is the former Helen White. The couple had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 16.

Born in Hamlin, son of the late Earl C. and Mildred Skelton Field he was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Department of Agriculture for 17 years, he was the owner of Field Used Furniture, and retired from Howe's 84 ARCO as a manager. He had also been a self employed farmer. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided.

Surviving are sons Ray and his wife Sandy and Walter and his wife Peggy; daughter Joann Koerner and her husband Keith all of Lake Ariel; a sister Gail Schafer of Newfoundland and Florence Smith of Bushkill; grandchildren Colleen, Kevin, Heather, Kelly, Brenda, Lori, and Holly; great grandchildren Shawna, Jacob, and Dawson.Preceded in death by a son Randy; a sister Betty Zellner.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home, Inc. Rt. 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Ron Onder of the Centenary United Methodist Church. Interment , Salem Cemetery. Friends may call Monday 5-8pm.

Paul P. Kukan
March 29, 2007

Paul Peter Kukan 64, of Lake Ariel died Thursday evening in the Hospice Unit at Mercy Hospital, Scranton, after a brave battle with lung cancer.

His longtime companion and caregiver is Ruth Crawley who will miss him dearly. He was born in Roselle Park NJ, son of the late Paul and Mary Schwarz Kukan. He was the owner of Cable Innovations of Hamlin, a premiere satellite business he founded, through his expert knowledge and hard work. He was well known in Roselle Park for his induction into the Roselle Park Athletic Hall of Fame for his play on the 1958 Roselle Park Panthers Football team.

Surviving are  daughters Patty Rose of Andover, Mass and Paula Schramm of Springfield, NJ; sisters Beverly Tran of Ocean Pines, Maryland and Marlene Mihalik of Farmington Hills, Mich.; grandchildren Brian and Alyssa Schramm and Brooke and Ashlyn Rose.

A blessing service will be held Thursday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Rt 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel. Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Cremation will take place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Interment of cremains in St Johns Cemetery, Jessup.

Leonard S. Schneider, Sr.
March 29, 2007

Leonard S. Schneider, Sr., Waymart, died Thursday in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after an illness. His companion is Karen Ward of Lake Ariel.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ son of Leonard S and Theresa Carr Schneider of Newfoundland he was a graduate of the Freehold Regional High School. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping, his children, God and his Native American Heritage.

Surviving are sons Leonard, Jr. and Shaun both of Moscow and Steven of Tunkhannock; step sons James, Matthew, and Robert Ward all of New York and Richard and Allan Thomas;  daughters Melissa of Scranton and Theresa Rose of Lake Ariel; step  daughters Melissa and Jessica Ward both of New York and Katherine Ward of Lake Ariel; brothers Edward of New York, Gerald of Greentown, and Leonard Powell of Dallas, Pa; sisters Betty Hunt of Hawley, Jennie Lamberton of South Canaan, and Pamela Stoddard of Lake Ariel; two step grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two great nephews; one great niece.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel with services by Rev. Matt Wolfe. Friends may call Monday from 5-8pm. Interment , St. Mary's Cemetery.

Bonnie Jean Hollister
March 30, 2007

Bonnie Jean Hollister of Mt Cobb, died Friday in Community Medical Center, Scranton.

She was born in Mt Cobb daughter of the late Horace and Alta Brown Hollister. She was a member of Elmdale Bible Church and was employed at Mr. Z's supermarket in Hamlin.

Surviving are brothers Bruce Hollister and his wife Roberta of Lake Ariel, Rev. Harold and his wife Rev. Ruth Hollister of Waynesboro, Pa.; sisters Martha Ball and her husband Russell of Maplewood and Verona Williams and her husband Thomas of Tunkhannock; several nieces and nephews and great nieces
and nephews.

Preceded in death by sister Elma June Shaffer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd Lake Ariel, with services by Rev. Willard Black and her brother Rev Harold Hollister. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 5-8pm. Cremation will take place in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Paul P. Kukan
Died March 29, 2007

Edward I. Batzel
March 27, 2007

Edward I. Batzel, Lake Ariel, died Tuesday night at home after an illness.

Born in Lake Ariel, son of the late Stewart W and Verna E Smith Batzel he attended the Lake Consolidated High School and was a graduate of the Cristi Trade School. He was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church. Prior to his illness he was self employed as an electrician. He also served as a Lake Township supervisor and as a member of the Lake Ariel Fire Company and the Lake Ariel Rod and Gun Club.

Surviving are a niece Kathleen Rothenberger and her husband Mark of Mountville; nephews David Kreiter and his wife Sharyl of Honesdale and William Kreiter and his wife Dee of Scotrun; great nephew Dan; great great nephew Austin; caregivers Jeannie Swingle, Anna Samson, Debbie Swingle, Holly Bugno, and Kathy Savitz. Preceded in death by a sister Elsie Kreiter.

Funeral services will be private.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5pm in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

Interment, Maplewood Evangelical Cemetery.

Lois B. Wilson
March 25, 2007

Lois B. Wilson, Lake Ariel, died Sunday night in Mallard Meadows Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of James H. Wilson who died in 1997.

Born in Kingston, daughter of the late William and Iva Eschenbach Bullock. She was a graduate of Moscow High School. She was a member of the Lake Ariel United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Harriet Greene Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 198. Prior to retirement she had been employed with her husband in the operation of the James Wilson Funeral Home.

Surviving are a daughter-in-law Sally Wilson-Huffstutler and her husband Cpl. Michael of the Pennsylvania State Police of Lake Ariel; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a nephew.

Preceded in death by a son Thomas and a sister Helen Evans. The funeral will be Friday at 10am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Route 296 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.

James J. Mostowski, Sr.
March 21, 2007

James J. Mostowski, Sr., S. Canaan, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital after an illness. Born in S. Canaan, son of the late John and Ann Vokiavich Mostowski, his widow is the former Laura Bronson.

He was employed as a bus driver in the Western Wayne School District and previous had worked at the Hartford Reed Sawmill. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army surviving in Vietnam War and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6520 in Cortez.

Also surviving are a son James Jr. and his fiancé Jessica Rideg, S. Canaan; a daughter Cheryl Ann and her husband John Dinning, S. Canaan; sisters Joan Saam, S. Canaan, and Ann Marie Sabara, California; 7 grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa, Mason, James III, Colin, Vincent, and Scarlett; several nieces and nephews.

The Funeral will be Saturday at 10:00am in the James Wilson Funeral Home Inc., Rt. 296 Gravity Rd., Lake Ariel with services by Rev. William Rushik.

Friends may call Friday 2-4pm and 7-9pm.

Ethel M. Raimondi
March 14, 2007

Ethel M. Raimondi ,of Cherry Ridge Township, died early Wednesday morning in Geisinger Health Center, Plains Township after an illness. Her husband of 33 years is Leonard M. Raimondi.

She was born in Brooklyn NY, daughter of the late Frank and Ethel M. Ashcroft Dietz. A graduate of Prospect Heights High School in New York. She was a member of the Honesdale Congregation of the Jehovah's Witness. She was employed as a travel agent at AAA in Honesdale.

Surviving are a son Michael and his wife Megan of Messina, NY; a brother Frank Dietz of Honesdale; sister Deborah Wagner of Honesdale. Services will be held on Saturday at 2:30pm in the Honesdale Congregation of the Jehovah's Witness Rt 191, Cherry Ridge Township. Cremation in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel. Arrangements by James Wilson Funeral Rt 296 Gravity Rd Lake Ariel.

Peter Oliver Clauss
March 10, 2007

Peter Oliver Clauss, 77, of Lake Ariel died Saturday, March 10 at home surrounded by his family following a courageous fifteen year battle with multiple myeloma. His wife of 54 years is the former Jane Macdonald of Paupack.

Born in the Lake Ariel Hotel, he was the son of the late Alice Fadden Clauss Harrison and Harvey Clauss, and stepson of the late Russell Harrison. A graduate of Lake Consolidated High School and Johnson Trade School, he was a member of St. Thomas More Parish. As a U.S. Navy Seabee, he served in Africa, Cuba, and Rhode Island. After his military service he returned to Johnson Trade School where he taught carpentry and cabinet making. He formed his first construction company in 1957 and retired in 1993 as president and co-owner of C&D Builders, Inc.

In service to the community, he was a member of the Financial and Long Range Development committees and served as co-chairman of the 21st Century Fund Raising committee of St. Thomas More Parish, a member of the Southern Wayne Regional Chamber of Commerce, a charter member and past chairman of the Southern Wayne County Water and Sewer Authority, a charter member and officer of the Western Wayne School Authority, an officer of The Hideout Builders Association, he was instrumental in the formation of the Wayne County Builders Association and served as a director, a member of the Pennsylvania Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders, a member of the Wood Trades Craft Committee at Johnson School
of Technology, a past member of the Lake Ariel Lions Club, a charter member of the Lake Ariel Fire Company he was also instrumental in establishing the Lake Salem Trust to build the Hideout Fire Station, and a member of the board of directors of the Lake Ariel Bank.

With an avid devotion to his family, he set an example of the importance of hard work, love, and joy in his life. As a skilled and accomplished wood craftsman, he loved working in his shop designing and creating furniture and various projects for the enjoyment of others. The husband of all husbands, the  Father of all fathers, the grandfather of all grandfathers, the friend of all friends, may he rest in God’s peace. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of the Dunmore office of DaVita Dialysis for their loving and compassionate care.

Surviving are five  daughters and five sons; Mary Jane Corcoran and husband Timothy of Lake Ariel, Peter and wife Margot of Tafton, Paula Isaacs and husband Charles of San Jose, California; Dr. Patrick and wife Grace of Lake Ariel, David and wife Regina of Lake Ariel, Peggy Quayle and husband Dale of Santa Ana, California; Robert of Westfield, New Jersey, Carol Gardner and husband Steven of Santa Ana, California; Timothy and wife Rosanne of Lake Ariel, and Heidi Clauss of Lake Ariel.

He is also survived by 30 grandchildren; Erin Corcoran Yunker and husband David, Timothy, Patrick, and Megan Corcoran; Glyncora Clauss and fiancé Tyler Tate, William and Sarah Clauss; Dorothy, Caroline, and Harrison Isaacs; GraceAnne, Veronica, Cassidy, Jenevieve, Alexandra, and Joseph Clauss; David and Andrew Clauss; Mary Alice, Peter, and Thomas Quayle; Emily and Kevin Clauss; Jack, David, Patrick, Timothy, and William Gardner; and Maggie and Ellen Clauss.

Surviving are two brothers, James of Dunmore and Dr. Thomas Clauss of Justice; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister Gretchen Evans and a brother Harvey Clauss.

Anyone attending the funeral is asked to go directly to the church Friday morning. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10AM from St. Thomas More Church, Lake Ariel with the interment with military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ledgedale. The viewing will be at the St. Thomas More Parish Center on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home in Lake Ariel. Agnes M. Danilovitz
March 5, 2007

Agnes M. Danilovitz, Paupack Twp., died Monday in the Broighten at Julia Ribuado Senior Care Center after an illness. She was the widow of Joseph Danilovitz who died in 1989.

Born in Wyoming, daughter of Michael A and Caroline Shadey Kurek she was a graduate of Hawley High School. She was of the Catholic faith.

Surviving are a son Thomas A. Danilovitz of Paupack, Twp.; sisters Dorothy Mickle of Virginia and Jean Meehan of Mass.; two grandchildren Jon M and Emil J; great grandchildren Andrew S. and Ryan W.; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by a son James.

Cremation in the Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.

Arrangements by the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
