Harold Gervasi

Harold Gervasi, 74, a Scranton Resident, died Sunday evening in Community Medical Center.

Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late Joseph and Helen Kirkwood Gervasi. He was employed locally in the clothing manufacturing business.

He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the 109 Infantry.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment , Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

William J. Flynn, Jr.

William J. Flynn, Jr., 82, a South Scranton resident, died Saturday, December 17, 2005 at home.

He was preceeded in death by his wife, the former Rose Lawless in 1972. Born in Jersey City, NJ., he was the son of the late William and Blanche Revel Flynn, Sr.

He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. He was a retired employee of Moses Taylor Hospital. He was a Navy Veteran of both World War ll and the Korean Conflict. He was a loving  Father and grandfather who loved gardening, reading and working jigsaw puzzles.

Surviving is a son Sean Flynn and wife Maria, Scranton and a daughter Ann Sharpe, Scranton, 6 grandchildren: Rachel and Beth Sharpe and Conor, Meghann, Brendan and Christian Flynn. Also one brother Jack Flynn, Garwood, NJ and one sister, Helen Matthews, Atlantic City, NJ.

He was preceded in death by a brother Frank and a sister, Celia Littlejohn.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Of Assisi Kitchen, 500 Penn Ave., Scranton.

William J. Noll

William J. Noll, Sr. (Wilbur), 77, a resident of Springbrook Twp. for 25 years, formerly of Scranton, died Thursday evening, December 1, 2005, in the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp..

His wife of 50 years is the former Elizabeth (Betty) D'Angelo. Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Roche Noll. He was an Army Air Force Veteran of WW 11 and the Korean Conflict. He served his country in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg N.C..

He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, a National Defense Service Medal, and a United Nations Medal. He was a member of VFW Post 1601. He was the former coach of the West Side Little League and Misses League.

He was a member of St. Catherine Of Sienna Church, Moscow. He attended Dunmore schools. He was formerly employed as a truckdriver. He and his loving wife recently celebrated a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party given by their children.

He was a die-hard Steelers fan, he loved his lawn maintenance and he enjoyed his trips to Atlantic city. He was a devoted husband, loving  Father and adoring and supportive grandfather. We are surely and deeply going to miss you, my husband, our  Father, our friend.

Also surviving is one son William J. Noll, Jr. and devoted daughter-in-law, Kim, Moscow, 3  daughters: Teresa Conrad and companion, Louis Frable, Springbrook Twp., Cheryl Schneider and husband, Patrick, Scranton, Barbara Noll, Moscow. Also surviving is a dedicated care-taker and close friend, Tracy Matcheson. Also three grandsons: Paul and William Houlihan and William J. Noll 111 all of Moscow. Six granddaughters: Jennifer and Melissa Noll, Hailey Conrad and Jenna Frable, Moscow and Elizabeth and Brittney Schneider, Scranton and Nieces and nephews. Also His favorite pet, Weiner.

He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Noll and a sister Theresa Herron.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. Scranton with Mass at 10 AM in St. Catherine Of Sienna Church, Moscow.

Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM.

LaMar B. Sharpe

LaMar B. Sharpe, 81, a South Scranton Resident, died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in VNA Hospice at CMC Hospital.

His wife is the former Mary Katherine Mc Guire and the couple recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary. Born in Kulpmont, he was the son of the late William R. and Blanche Bender Sharpe.

He was a graduate of Nanticoke High School. He formerly was employed by Interstate Bakeries and then owned and operated a service station. He was an Air Force Verteran of World War two.

Also surviving is one son, Christopher, Scranton, three granddaughters and one great grandson, One sister, Edna Cavanaugh, Long Beach, Ca. and neices and nephews. He was preceeded in death by 4 brothers: William, Kenneth, Thomas and Howard.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements by August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton.

William J. Tierney

William J. Tierney, 80, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday, November 24, 2005 at Asera Care Hospice in Peckville.

His wife is the former Frances Lupinski and the couple was married for 57 years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Kiernan J. and Louise Hamm Tierney.

He was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church and was a choir member for 43 years. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School and attended the University Of Scranton.

He was a Navy Veteran of World War Two. He retired after 37 years from Deemer's and Co. as store manager. After his retirement, he assisted his son in the operation of Tierney's Office Products.

He was a loving husband,  Father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved his wife and children and put his life in God's hands always. He had a great sense of humor and had many friends.

Also surviving are two sons: William K., Scranton, Mark, at home and four  daughters: Cynthia Grego, Scranton, Barbara Tierney, Scranton, Maureen Snell, Archbald and Ann Fedele, Scranton, 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, two sisters: Ellen Jordan, Va. and Mary Langan, Scranton, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John J. and an infant daughter, Christine, 6 brothers: Myles, James, Kiernan, Eugene, Donald and John and 4 sisters: Lillian, Ann Norton, Patricia Wright and Betty Keating.

The funeral will be Monday at 9 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., with mass at 9:30 AM in Nativity Of Our Lord Church to be celebrated by Msgr. Michael Delaney, Pastor. Interment Cathedral Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Nativity Memorial Fund, 633 Orchard St. Scranton, 18505. All those attending the Funeral are asked to go directly to the church Monday morning.

Louise Fawls

Louise Fawls, 78, a South Scranton resident, died Wednesday evening, November 23, 2005 in Mercy Hospice.

She was the widow of James F. Fawls who died in 1962. The couple was married for 12 years. Born in Swoyersville, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Helen Mulrooney Brennan.

She was a graduate of Forty Fort High School and attended College Misrecordia. She was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a quiet and gentle woman.

Surviving is one son James M. Fawls and wife Maurita, Coeur d'Alene, Or., three grandchildren: Elizabeth, James R. and David Fawls.

The funeral was held Saturday with Mass in St. Peter's Cathedral by Rev. Charles Connor, Pastor. Interment , Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Arrangements, August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc. 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton.

Eleanor Wilczynski

Eleanor Wilczynski, 83, a South Scranton resident, died Thursday evening, November 17, 2005 , at Mercy Hospital shortly after admittance.

She was the widow of Joseph Wilczynski who died in October of 1985. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Pallien Lawler. She was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church and it's Altar and Rosary Society. She attended St. Mary's School and was employed by Saquoit Silk Mill.

Surviving is her only sister, Loretta Guarina and husband, Leonard, of Springbrook Twp. Also surviving are 4 nieces: Loretta Bortree, Springbrook Twp., Linda Materazzi, Utah, Marilyn Culkin, Scranton and Lenette Solano, Pittsburgh, 24 grand nieces and grandnephews.

The Funeral will be Monday at 9 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. Scranton with Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, River Street. Celebrant is Msgr. Dale Rupert, Pastor. Interment , parish cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday 2 to 5 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's General Fund, 430 Pittston Ave. Scranton,Pa, 18505.

Richard F. Snyder

Richard F. Snyder, 47, a former Scranton resident, died Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at home in Olyphant.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of Nan McAndrew Snyder, Scranton and the late Robert Snyder , Sr.

He was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski High School and was formerly employed as a Lieutenant in the Quantico, Va. Police Department.

He loved his family and animals and truly enjoyed good times. Richard's wife is the former Maryann Harrington. Also surviving are two  daughters, Brigid Ephault, Syracuse, NY, and Becky Edgar Lighthouse Pt., Fl. One sister Jill Snyder, Scranton, two brothers: John, Stafford, Va. and William, Clarks Summit, three grandchildren Adhan Jude Ephault, Seamus Donald Ephault and Dale Joshua Edgar and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Snyder, Jr.

The funeral will be Friday at 9 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton with Mass at 9:30 AM in Nativity Of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St. Scranton. Interment , Cathedral Cemetery.

Robert J. Davis

Robert J. Davis, 63, a Scranton resident, died Friday, October 21, 2005, at home. Born in Scranton, he was a son of the late John G. Davis and the late Leona Rozelle Davis Goodnow.

He was formerly employed by Procter and Gamble and later as an over the road truck driver employed by several local trucking companies. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving is a son, John W. Davis and wife Wendy, Clarks Summit, two sisters: Judy Weippert, Toms River, NJ and Susan McNichols, West Wyoming, a grandson, Donald, Aunts ,Uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 AM in the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. Scranton with services by Rev. Susan Cembalisty. Interment , Abington Hills Cemetery.

Robert B. McCabe

Robert B. McCabe, 87, a South Scranton resident, died Friday morning in the VNA Hospice unit at CMC Hospital.

His wife of 49 years is the former Josephine Frei. Born in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of the late John and Levinia Winters McCabe. He resided in South Scranton for the past 25 years. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a plumber by the Bronx Veteran's Administration Hospital.

He was a World War Two Army combat veteran serving in North Africa and Italy. During his many years in New York, he co-founded the first little league on the lower East Side, attained champion caliber as a handball player and participated in numerous athletic and civic organizations including roles in neighborhood and tenant organizations.

A devoted Catholic, he was a member of St. Mary Of The Assumption Church and participated in church organizations throughout his life including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Nocturnal Adoration Society, Catholic Youth Organization and the Legion Of Mary.

Also surviving are a son, Tim McCabe and wife Gina, of South Abington, a brother, John McCabe , Wayne, NJ, a beloved granddaughter, Emily and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank McCabe.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave. with Mass at 9:30 AM in St. Mary Of The Assumption Church, River St. Interment , Parish Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 33 E. Northhampton St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18701-2406.

Arthur J. Granito, Sr

Arthur J. Granito, Sr., Local Restauranteur Dies.
Arthur J. Granito, Sr. 87, a South Scranton Resident, died Monday, October 4, 2005, at Moses Taylor Hospital.

He was the husband of Mabel Catherine Diskin Granito and the couple was married for 58 years. Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Frank and Lucy Chiorazzi Granito. Mr. Granito operated the family store, restaurant and tavern at the South Side Bridge Complex continuously since the 1930's.

He was a lifelong member of Nativity Of Our Lord Church. He was a loving husband,  Father and grandfather and was a friend to all who knew him. He dedicated his life to the family business.

Also surviving are two  daughters, Lucia, at home, and Maureen Neu, Justice, two sons: Arthur 2nd, Harrisburg and Thomas John (T.J.), Fairfax, VA. Also 6 grandchildren: Arthur 3rd and Jennifer Granito, Brian and Patrick Neu, and Natalie and Christopher Granito. Also One sister, Dolly Mumfreda, Scranton and Nieces: Helen Moffitt and Mildred Crispino and one nephew, John (J.B.) Mumfreda.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John. The funeral will be Saturday at 9 AM from the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc., 202 Pittston Ave, Scranton, with Mass at 9:30 AM in Nativity Of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St. Scranton. Interment , St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Carol Roman Matus

Carol Roman Matus, 52, formerly of Coolbaugh Twp., died Tuesday morning, October 4, 2005 in VNA Hospice at Community Medical Center, Scranton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 9 years, William Matus , who died May 12, 2005.

Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of Frances DiPietro Petro, Olyphant and the late William Petro. She formerly resided in Tunkhannock and Olyphant before residing in Coolbaugh Twp. She was employed for 35 years by RCA Thompson before it closed and then Carol enrolled in Keystone College and receiver a degree in Computer Science. She then was employed by RKR Hess of Stroudsburg until her illness.

She was formerly an active member of Community Bible Church, Tunckhannock and presently was a member of Mount Pocono Bible Fellowship Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Surviving is a son Frank Roman Jr. and a daughter Erin Roman, both of Olyphant, two stepdaughters, April Hall , Lock Haven and Holly Granville, Fort Drum, NY. Two brothers William and Mark and one sister, Patricia, all of Olyphant, 6 grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 AM in the August J. Haas Funeral Home, Inc, 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton with services by Pastor Ron Erb. Interment , Sunnyside Cemetery, Tunkhannock, Pa,

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to Mount Pocono Bible Fellowship Church.
