Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Mary I. Trumpower
Mary I. (Gearhart) Trumpower, 92, of 2 Fleming Dr., Hancock, Md. and formerly of 3484 Williamson Road, Greencastle, died Wednesday afternoon Aug. 23, 2006 in the Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport, Md.

Chester W. "Ted" Seilhamer
Chester W. "Ted" Seilhamer, 91, a resident of the Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown, Md. for nearly two years and formerly of Marsh Pike, Hagerstown, died at 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 in the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born May 23, 1915 in Quincy Township, he was the son of the late Harry and Nora Blanche (Frey) Seilhamer.

Mr. Seilhamer retired from the Potomac Edison Co. and General Motors Corp. Frigidaire Division after 44 years employment.

He was a 1934 graduate of Quincy High School, Quincy and a 1936 graduate of Coyne Electrical Institute, Chicago.

Mr. Seilhamer was a member of the Broadfording Church of The Brethren Fellowship of Cearfoss, Md. In his younger years, he served as a Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher and as a deacon in the Church Of The Brethren.

He was a member of the Potomac Edison Forerunners Club and a member of the national AARP.

His wife Fern (Harshman) Seilhamer died on March 19, 1989.

He is survived by two sons, Don H. Seilhamer of Waynesboro and Rev. Larry C. Seilhamer of Petersburg, Va.; a sister, Ruby Shindle of Williamson; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Betty Bingaman, Hazel Heckman, Mildred Fortney and Nora Harrison and by two brothers Norman Seilhamer and Harry Seilhamer.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31 in the Broadfording Church of The Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown, Md. with Pastor Len Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the Green Hill cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Building Fund of the Broadfording Church Of The Brethren Fellowship, 14010 Greencastle Pike, Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Peter Plowman-Render
Peter Plowman-Render, 53, of 1781 McDowell Road, Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2006 in the emergency room of the Chambersburg Hospital from an apparent heart attack.

John Dennis Denny" Zeigler
John Dennis "Denny" Zeigler, 60, of Chambersburg, died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital following a short illness.

Born July 4, 1946 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late J. Jacob "Jake" and D. Virginia (Mowen) Zeigler.

He was employed for over 30 years at Kraft Foods, Chambersburg, and was currently employed at Pro-Aer of State Line, Pa.

He was a 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

Mr. Zeigler was a member of the Greencastle Church of The Brethren.

He enjoyed hunting and his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

He and his wife, Barbara A. (Fox) Zeigler were married June 18, 1965 in Hagerstown, Md.

In addition to his wife of 41 years, he is survived by a daughter, Stacy L. (wife of Todd) Umstead of Etters; one son, Greg L. Zeigler (husband of Kim) Zeigler of Altoona; a sister, Connie R. Kunkle of Hagerstown, Md.; three grandchildren, Cody Umstead, Zachary Zeigler and Alyssa Zeigler; and three nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shelby J. Zeigler in 2003.

Amemorial service was held the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 26 at 3:30 p.m. in the Greencastle Church Of The Brethren, Greencastle, with Pastor Leon R. Yoder officiating.

Burial was held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Greencastle Church of The Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Dr. David R. Hess
Dr. David R. Hess, 94 of 11915 Stull Road, Greencastle, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 in his home.

Born June 19, 1912 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Willis A. and Elizabeth K. (Miller) Hess.

He practiced as a family physician in Shady Grove from 1940 to 1989.

Dr. Hess was a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Brown's Mill District.

He and his wife L. Irene (Boone) Hess were married June 11, 1938 in Franklin County, Va.

In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by five sons, D. Robert Hess Jr. of Chambersburg, Nelson L. Hess of Greencastle, Richard E. Hess of Chambersburg, Calvin R. Hess of Greencastle and Eldon H. Hess of Chambersburg; two  daughters, Mildred L. Wagoner of Greencastle and Mabel S. Wagoner of Waynesboro; two brothers, Abram J. Hess and Charles F. Hess, both of Waynesboro; 54 grandchildren; 162 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandsons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Douglas B. Hess, in 2002; two brothers, Daniel Hess and James Hess; two sisters, Esther Boyd and Evelyn Benedict; and one great granddaughter.

A family service was held the morning of Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Hess Home on Stull Road, Greencastle, with further services later that morning at the Brown's Mill Meeting House on Grindstone Hill Road, near Chambersburg, with the Home Brethren officiating.

Burial was in the Brown's Mill cemetery, Kauffman.

The family requested that flowers be omitted.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Allen L. Verdier
Allen L. Verdier, 67, of 234 West Walter Ave., Greencastle, died at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 in his home. He was in failing health for the past 10 months and critically ill for the past two weeks.

Born Oct. 7, 1938 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Flora M. (Verdier) Smith. He lived his early life in Mont Alto and moved to the present residence on July 20, 2005.

Mr. Verdier received his G.E.D. while serving in the military.

He served in the United States Navy for a period of 12 years, serving during the Korean Conflict. He served on the U.S.S. Independence as a technical advisor.

Mr. Verdier was employed as an assistant manager for Sears, Roebuck and Company in various stores over 30 years. He retired in the early 90's. Following his retirement he worked for Boscov's Department Store in Wilmington, Del. as a trainer of new employees and opening of new stores. He again retired in 2002.

While in high school, he sang with the Tribesman Choir and then was a member of the Blue Jacket Choir in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Verdier enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining people.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Debra K. (husband Christopher L.) Brown of Greencastle, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John E. Smith and Charles Ray Verdier.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1 in Grove- Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro, with Rev. J. Denise Smelley officiating.

Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Mont Alto.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the services in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Doris L. Stouffer
Doris L. Stouffer, 82, of 14918 Mercersburg Road, Greencastle, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006 in the St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Md. from complications of heart surgery done on Monday.

Elizabeth Adaline (Frey) Miller
Elizabeth Adaline (Frey) Miller, 88, of 146 Kennedy St., Marion, died Saturday morning Sept. 2, 2006 in her home.

Born Dec. 18, 1917 in Hamilton Township, she was the daughter of the late David M. and Retiza (Byers) Frey.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker.

She was a 1937 graduate of the Chambersburg High School.

Mrs. Miller was a member of the Heidelberg Church, Marion, where she served one term as deacon and one term as elder. She was a member and former teacher of the Golden Link Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Missions and Hospitality Committees.

She was a member of the Society of Farm Women, Group 4 since 1953. She served this organization as president for numerous terms and was vice president of the Franklin County Society.

Mrs. Miller did volunteer work collecting money for the American Cancer Society. She donated blood during the Waynesboro blood drives for many years.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and canning.

She and her husband, Welty Good Miller, were married in 1941, he died on July 7, 1967.

She is survived by two  daughters, Katherine E. Miller of Marion and Dorothy Good Miller Gettel of Chambersburg; two sisters, Ruth Helman of Chambersburg; and Martha Rawley of Mount Solon, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frey.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 6 in Heidelberg Church, Marion, with Pastors David Rawley, Daniel Keller and Adam Leeper officiating.

Burial was in the Hades Church cemetery, near Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Easter Seals, 55 Hamilton Road, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201 or to the Hades Church cemetery Association, c/o M&T Bank, 55 S. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Paul E. Bingaman
Paul E. Bingaman, 81, of 482 Reid Road, State Line, Pa. died at 1:10 p.m. Monday Sept. 4, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Doris E. (Smith) Crocken
Mrs. Doris E. (Smith) Crocken, 86, of 764 Tower Drive, Greencastle, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, in Chambersburg Hospital, where she had been a patient for a short time.

Born Jan. 25, 1920 in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late Roy Elmer and Hilda (Shafer) Smith. She spent her early life in Baltimore.

Mrs. Crocken attended Baltimore area schools.

She and her husband, Francis C. "Bud" Crocken, were married on Dec. 20, 1936 in Baltimore. They had lived at their Baltimore home until 1978 when they moved to Tarpon Springs, Fla. In 2003, Mrs. Crocken returned to live with her son and daughter-in-law in Carroll County, Md., where she resided until July 2006. She then lived with her daughter and son-inlaw in Greencastle. Mr. Crocken died Oct. 3, 1990.

She was a life member of Beechfield United Methodist Church, Baltimore and a member of First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs, Tarpon Springs, Fla. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women and Holiday Lake Estate Civic Association Workshop, Holiday, Fla.

Mrs. Crocken enjoyed travels by vehicle and cruise ship.

She is survived by two  daughters: Doris E. Eikenberg and her husband Andrew, of Huntsville, Ala. and Frances C. Crocetti and her husband Joseph, of Greencastle; a son, Charles R. "Buddy" Crocken and his wife Kathleen, of Sykesville, Md.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Clara M. Brendel of Holiday, Fla.; and two nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Michael Crocken; three grandchildren, Daniel Crocetti, Joseph Crocetti and Kimberly Crocken; a sister, Hilda C. Smith; and a brother, Roy E. Smith Jr.

Memorial services were held the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 7 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor John A. Ile officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to National Kidney Foundation, 1107 Kenilworth Ave, Suite 202, Baltimore, MD 21204.

A. Shirley (Creager) Grisson
Mrs. A. Shirley (Creager) Grisson, 68, a resident of Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of Titusville, Fla., died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital. She has been in failing health for the past several years.

Born Dec. 30, 1937 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Smith) Creager. She lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Grisson graduated from the Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1956. She later received her degree in nursing and was certified as a registered nurse.

She and her late husband, Mr. William H. Grisson, were married Oct. 9, 1973 in Tennessee. Mr. Grisson died April 29, 2006. She lived in Titusville since 1998 and entered Village of Laurel Run on May 24, 2006.

Mrs. Grisson was employed as a registered nurse for over 30 years, working in Waynesboro Hospital, Chambersburg Hospital, various nursing homes and was last nursing in Titusville. She retired in 1998.

While living in the Waynesboro area, she was a member of the Rouzerville Church of the Brethren and while living in Florida, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Grisson enjoyed crafts, gardening, fishing, crabbing, farming and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two  daughters, Sandra D. Grisson of Waynesboro and Deborah A. Odam of Aberdeen, Md.; one son, David W. Grisson of Mont Alto; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Daniel Creager of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were held the afternoon of Tuesday, Sept. 12 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor Phillip M. Zook officiating.

Burial was at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements were handled by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro.
