Mrs. Alma E. (Hartle) Metcalfe, 100, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center, Chambersburg, and formerly of 14663 Sherwood Drive, Greencastle, died at 2:29 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, in the nursing home.

Mildred B. Reynolds
Mildred B. Reynolds, 79, of 3108 McDowell Road, Waynesboro, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006 in her home.

Eleanor Mae (Bricker) Rowe
Mrs. Eleanor Mae (Bricker) Rowe, 84, a resident of the Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of 9026 Gap Road, Waynesboro, died at 4:27 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, in the nursing home. She had been in failing health for the past two years and critically ill since Sept. 1, 2006.

John "Buck" McQuait
John "Buck" McQuait, 76, of 292 Cherry Lane Drive, Chambersburg, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 in the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehab Center, Chambersburg.

Helen A. (Manley) SanFellipo
Mrs. Helen A. (Manley) San- Fellipo, 82, of Quincy Retirement Community, Cottage 203- D, Quincy, died at 5:54 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 in Waynesboro Hospital. She was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill since Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006.

Born on May 21, 1924 in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Peter A. and Genevieve (Fitzsimmons) Manley. She lived her early life in the Dunmore area.

Mrs. SanFellipo graduated from Dunmore High School with the Class of 1942.

She and her husband of over 57 years, Benjamin L. "Ben" SanFellipo, who is a resident of Quincy Home, were married Nov. 27, 1948 in Washington, D.C. They lived in Washington for a short, and then lived in Oxon Hill, Md. and prior to moving to Quincy Retirement Community in 1992, she and her husband lived in Greencastle.

Mrs. SanFellipo was employed as a secretary for the Department of Immigration and Naturalization in her early life.

She was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, and the national AARP.

Mrs. SanFellipo enjoyed traveling and crocheting.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Maureen A. Willett of Mechanicsville, Md.; one son, Francis J.

SanFellipo of Eldersburg, Md.; one granddaughter, Jennifer E. SanFellipo of Eldersburg; two sisters, Jean Browning of Quincy Retirement Community; and Nan McQueeney of Riverside, R.I.; one niece; and one nephew.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Manley.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated the morning of Monday, Sept. 25 in Saint Andrew Catholic Church, Waynesboro, with  Father David S. Keller as celebrant.

Burial was in St. Andrew cemetery, Waynesboro.

A Rosary was recited the evening of the viewing in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Andrew Catholic Church, 12 North Broad Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements were handled by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Robert B. "Tip" Rowe
Mr. Robert B. "Tip" Rowe, 82, of 37 Mount Airy Avenue, Waynesboro, died at 5:25 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He was in failing health for the past two weeks.

Roy Moab Showalter
Roy Moab Showalter, 81, of 138 Village Square, Chambersburg, and formerly of Maugansville, Md., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 in Menno Haven Retirement Community, Chambersburg.

Eva James Vanderau
Eva James Vanderau, infant daughter of Daniel and Heather Coyle Vanderau Jr. of Frederick, Md. died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore, Md. She was born Sept. 24, 2006 in Baltimore.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents, Jim and Judy Coyle of Westminster, Md. and Connie Vanderau of Greencastle; aunts and uncles, Kim and Chuck Carter and Tanya and Chip Toole, all of Westminster; Dawn and Dennis Gish of Hagerstown, Md. and Craig and Crystal Vanderau of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five cousins.

She was preceeded in death by her grandfather, Daniel E. Vanderau Sr.

A memorial service was held the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, Md.

Ruth R. Crane
Ruth R. Crane, 88, of 5400 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, died at 1:05 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in Chambersburg Hospital.

Edith G. Bowman
Edith G. Wilson Bowman, 95, a resident of Woodland Retirement Center in Orbisonia, for the past 14 months and who formerly lived in Greencastle, and Kissimmee Fla. died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 in the retirement center.

Jerome Harvey Hykes
Jerome Harvey Hykes, 90, formerly of Molly Pitcher Highway, Greencastle, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006 in De Bary, Fla. following a brief illness.

Evelyn Louise (Fiano) Martinelli
Mrs. Evelyn Louise (Fiano) Martinelli, 82, of 15367 Martinelli Dr., State Line, Pa., died at 9:10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, in her home.

Dennis E. Hartman
Dennis E. Hartman, 59, of Fayetteville, died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Edna M. (Diller) Weber Martin
Edna M. (Diller) Weber Martin, 90, and a resident of the Mennonite Home in Maugansville, Md. and formerly of Smithsburg, Md. died at 9:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 in the home.

Gerald R. Gearhart
Gerald R. Gearhart, 80, of 1803 Buchanan Trail East, Shady Grove, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at the Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy.

Born Oct. 29, 1925 in Shady Grove, he was the son of the late Samuel and Nora (Fox) Gearhart.

He and his wife Betty M. (Heefner) Gearhart were married Dec. 14, 1946.

Mr. Gearhart was postmaster at the U.S. Post Office, Shady Grove, for 30 years, retiring in 1987.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319, Greencastle.

Mr. Gearhart was an avid collector of model trains and was a member of the Waynesboro Model Railroad Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nina Myers of Shady Grove; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Janet Angle and Leota Negley; and brothers, Kenneth and C. Lowell Gearhart.

Graveside services were held the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Antietam (formerly Prices) cemetery near Waynesboro with Minister Dean Gearhart officiating.

Military honors were provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post 1599 Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Waynesboro Model Railroad Club, P.O. Box 203, Zullinger, Pa. 17272.

Arrangements were handled by Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

James E. Kline
James E. Kline, 69, a resident of Avalon Manor, Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of 7237 Angle Road, Chambersburg, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, in the nursing home, following a long illness.

Laura G. Peiffer
Laura G. (Hykes) Peiffer, 96, of Fairmont, W. Va. and formerly of Orchard Circle, Greencastle, died at 3 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 in the Fairmont Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1909 in Antrim Township, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Orpha (Meyers) Hykes.

She was a homemaker and in her earlier years she worked at the former GEM Garment Co., Greencastle.

Mrs. Peiffer was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church, Greencastle.

She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post 6319, Greencastle.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Charles C. Finfrock in 1943 and D. Lester Peiffer in 1985.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Adams of Chambersburg; a stepdaughter, Betty Lee Peterson of Chambersburg; several grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Greco; a son, Charles C. Finfrock; brothers Jacob Hykes, Amos Hykes, Jesse Hykes and Jerome Hykes; and sisters Catherine Leidig, Susan Beaver, Mary Kennedy, Orpha Egolf and Beulah Snyder.

Services were held the morning of Monday, Oct. 16 in Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle with Jimmy Greco and Bill Shilling officiating.

Burial was in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown, Md.

Harold B. Fox Sr.
Harold B. Fox Sr., 82, a resident of Crestwood Manor, Whiting, N.J., died Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 in the home.

Born in Ladiesburg, Md., he was the son of the late Robert E. and Edith L. (Benedict) Fox. He formerly lived in Shady Grove, Mt. Laurel, N. J., Moorestown, N.J. for 25 years, the Leisuretowne section of Southampton Township and from 1991 to 2005 at Crestwood Village in Whiting and lastly at Crestwood Manor in 2005. He married Mary M. Morter in 1948.

He was a 1942 graduate of Greencastle High School.

Mr. Fox was a farm manager for Moriuchi Farms Inc., Moorstown, N. J. for 35 years, retiring in 1993. Prior to this employment, he worked for Barr Orchards, Greencastle until 1958.

He was an active member of Church Council at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Moorestown; and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting.

Mr. Fox was a charter member of the Ruritan Club and the Electric Light Association, community projects in Shady Grove.

While living in Leisuretowne, he was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, the "Touch Organization" and the "Night Watch."

In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by two  daughters, Rebecca Boyd of Clemmons, N.C. and Dr. Martha Segal of Lexington, Mass.; two sons, Harold B. Fox Jr. of Medford, N.J. and Marshall Fox of Audobon, N.J.; and six grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David J. Fox.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Christ Lutheran Church, Whiting.

Burial followed in Whiting Memorial Park.

The family requested that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church, 40 Schoolhouse Road, Whting, N.J. 08759 or to the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements were handled by the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Whiting.

John "Jay" Bressler Smith
John "Jay" Bressler Smith, 62, of Hagerstown, Md., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006 at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. He fought a courageous battle against multiple myloma cancer for the last 16 months.

Born July 10, 1944 in Wilmington, Del., he was the son of the late Donald H. Smith Sr. and Louise Smith.

He and his wife, Pamela Long Smith, were married in 1973 in Hagerstown.

Mr. Smith was employed by Montgomery County government as an Emergency Medical Technician Instructor. He served as the programs coordinator and developer and was associated with The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems, Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, The American Heart Association, The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, The Montgomery County Public Schools High School Cadet Program and The Chesapeake Instructors Association. He was also a charter member of the National Association of EMS Educators. He retired Sept. 1, 2006 due to illness.

He was a member, Sunday School teacher and former board member at Church of the Nazarene, Hagerstown and previously served as a youth pastor for several years elsewhere with a quiver full of spiritual children. He was a member and webmaster of Shenandoah and Potomac Valley Garden Railway Club and Washington County Bird Club, where he also served as president.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Donald H. Smith Jr. of Colorado; his inlaws, Charles and Marian "Penny" Long of Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held the morning of Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 in Hagerstown Church of the Nazarene, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, with Rev. Steven Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nazarene International Missions, 141 N. Edgewood Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Arrangements were handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Rev. Arnold E. Wagaman
Rev. Arnold E. Wagaman, 85, of 10545 Letzburg Road, Greencastle, died at 11:16 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 in the emergency room of the Waynesboro Hospital. Death was unexpected and attributed to a heart attack.

Born June 18, 1921 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Chester and Bertha (Misner) Wagaman. He lived his early life in the Waynesboro area.

Rev. Wagaman served with the United States Army during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa.

He and his wife, the late Ruth V. (Black) Wagaman, were married Sept. 29, 1951 in Hagerstown, Md. They have lived at their present residence for the past 23 years. Mrs. Wagaman died Sept. 18, 2006.

Rev. Wagaman served as a minister for many churches throughout his life, including Mt. Olivet, Pleasant Hill, Laurgan and Mt. Tabor. He later served as chaplain of Piney Mt. Nursing Home, Fayetteville.

He was a member of Blue Rock United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro, where he was a member of the Men's Bible class.

Rev. Wagaman was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and enjoyed fishing.

He is survived by two  daughters, Judy K. Shives of Greencastle and Donna L. Gardenhour of Waynesboro; three sons, Arnold E. Wagaman Jr. of Kenai, Alaska, Charles W. Wagaman and John Wagaman, both of Waynesboro; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy J. Fritz of Waynesboro and Shirley J. Helk, a resident of Lutheran Retirement Village, Gettysburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia A. Kendall, and one infant brother, Harold L. Wagaman.

Services were held the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 31 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Donald L. Bender officiating.

Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
