Billie Gene Key, 74, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Fort Myers, Fla. Born April 14, 1935, in Bankston, Ala., he was the son of the late W.D. Key and Willia Belle Key. He was the husband of Charlotte (McGill) Key, formerly of Alexander City, Ala. They were married for 56 years.

H. John Downin, 62, of 2491 Jay Circle, Greenville, N.C. and formerly of Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville. Born Aug. 29, 1946 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Harry Walter and Joyce Elaine (Gardner) Downin.

Betty M. (McClain) Martin
Betty M. (McClain) Martin, 81, a resident of Providence Place of Chambersburg, and formerly of 228 Landis Ave., Waynesboro, died at 1:21 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Providence Place. She was in failing health for the past several years and critically ill for the past week.

Phyllis H. "Phil" Hoover, 91, a resident of the Heritage Hills Retirement Home, Greencastle, and formerly of 249 South Washington St., Greencastle died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009 in the retirement home. Rodgers E. Slick
Rodgers E. Slick, 94, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of 613 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, died at 7:25 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009 in the nursing home. Born Aug. 7, 1914 in Mt. Aetna, Md., he was the son of the late Charles E. and Clara C. (Miner) Slick.

Nan Conrad Flaherty
Nan (Conrad) Flaherty, 93, a resident of Gouldsboro Maine and formerly of Providence Place Chambersburg, and East Madison Street, Greencastle, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 in the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, Maine.

Clarence R. "Dick" Bryan
Clarence R. "Dick" Bryan, 83, of 237 East Baltimore St., Greencastle, died at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He had been ill for the past six months and critically ill for the past month.

Marvin S. "Muff" Tice
Marvin S. "Muff" Tice, 71, of 560 Meadowview Circle, Greencastle, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 11:54 p.m. in the Waynesboro Hospital.

Edward F. Bell
Edward F. Bell, 74, of 11620 Bemisderfer Road, Greencastle, died Friday, June 9 following an extended five-year illness, at the Huntingdon, home of his daughter Jane, where he had been residing since April.

A. Shirley (Creager) Grisson
Mrs. A. Shirley (Creager) Grisson, 68, a resident of Village of Laurel Run, Fayetteville, and formerly of Titusville, Fla., died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2006 in the Chambersburg Hospital. She has been in failing health for the past several years.

Elmer C. Donaldson Jr.
Elmer C. Donaldson Jr., 79, of 200 North Allison St., Greencastle, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, 2006 in the Penn Hall Nursing Center, Chambersburg, where he has been a resident for over two years.

Ethel L. Brown
Ethel L. Brown, 96, a resident of The Village of Laurel Run of Fayetteville, since July 1, 2006 and formerly of Greencastle, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 in the nursing home.

Leatha (Elliott) Pensinger
Leatha (Elliott) Pensinger, 67 of 156 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, died unexpectedly at 4:51 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 in the Johns Hopkins Medical Center, Baltimore, Md.

Anthony R. "Tony" Simonetti
Anthony R. "Tony" Simonetti, 26, of 659 Lohman Ave., Greencastle, died at 1:14 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Interstates 70 and 40 in Maryland.

Born Dec. 19, 1980, in New Kensington, he was the son of Rosalind (Kernisky) "Roz" Simonetti of Greencastle, and the late Daniel J. "Dan" Simonetti Sr. He lived most of his life in the Greencastle area.

Mr. Simonetti graduated from Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School with the Class of 1999. He later graduated from Shippensburg University in 2003, with a Bachelors Degree in Business.

He worked for Cingular Wireless, Greenbelt, Md., as a regional data specialist.

Mr. Simonetti was an avid soccer player. He also enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his dog, Beckham, and being the center of attention.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, Daniel J. Simonetti Jr., of Greencastle.

Services were held the morning of Monday, Feb. 26 in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Ray Kipe officiating.

Burial followed in Cedar Hill cemetery, Greencastle.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Shippensburg University Men's Soccer Scholarship, C/O: Men's Soccer Coach, 1871 Old Main Dr., Shippensburg, PA, 17257.

Sara Louise Martin
Sara Louise Martin, 51, of 5873 Altenwald Road, Waynesboro, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at 2:15 p.m. at her home.

Born Sept. 4, 1955 in Waynesboro, she is the daughter of Glen and Naomi (Martin) Eby, of Greencastle.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Waynecastle Mennonite Church of Waynesboro.

She and her husband, Carl Richard Martin, were married Jan. 2, 1976 in Greencastle.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is survived by two  daughters, Jennette M. Martin of Greencastle and Erica L. Martin, at home; two sons, Randall E. Martin of Craig, Colo. and Dale R. Martin of Fayetteville; two sisters, Suellen Martin of Waynesboro and Barbara J. Martin of Craig, Colo.; three brothers, Daniel Eby of Clear Spring, Md., Edwin Eby of Greencastle and Roger Eby of Littlestown; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter.

Services were held the morning of Wednesday, May 2 in the Waynecastle Mennonite Church, Waynesboro, with the Waynecastle Mennonite Church Ministry officiating.

Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, Greencastle.

Mary E. Daugherty
Mary E. Daugherty, 99, a resident of Quincy Village and formerly of Buchanan Trail East, Greencastle, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007 in the nursing home.

Born Oct. 25, 1907 in Paramount, Md., she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Jennie May (Trovinger) Hykes.

She and her husband M. Earl Daugherty were married Feb. 18, 1930 in State Line, Pa. He died Oct. 10, 1986.

Mrs. Daugherty was a long time member of the former Trinity United Brethren Church in State Line, where she was a member of the Sunshine Workers Bible Class.

She was employed as a seamstress for over 20 years at the former Stanley Company of Chambersburg.

Mrs. Daugherty was a member of the former Greencastle Chapter of the AARP and enjoyed gardening and flowers.

She is survived by a son, Melvin E. Daugherty of Boonsboro, Md.; two  daughters, Dorothy Talhelm of Chambersburg and Joyce Welling of Boonsboro; a brother, Edgar Hykes of Waynesboro; a sister, Elva Fahnestock of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Earl and Roy Hykes; and one sister, Lelia Daugherty.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. J. Herman Fisler and Pastor Gregory Kell officiating.

Burial will be in the Beautiful View cemetery, Washington County, Md.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jeffrey L. Daley
Jeffrey L. Daley, 44, of 5434 Kennedy Ave., Williamson, died at 12:01 a.m., Monday, April 30, 2007 at his home. He had been in failing health for the last year and critically ill for the last two months. Born Dec. 11, 1962 in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Richard and Betty (Wolfe) Daley of Greencastle.

William C. Woller
William Charles Woller, 88, of 9035 Rabbit Road North, Greencastle, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2007 in Quincy Village, Quincy, where he was a resident for the past two days. He had been in declining health for the last three years.

Mabel G. Gearhart
Mabel G. (Rotz) Gearhart, 84, a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, for the last month and formerly of Williamson Road, Greencastle, died at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007 in the nursing center. She had been in declining health the past six months.

Paul H. Berger
Paul H. Berger, age 78 of 3513 Leitersburg Rd. Waynesboro, Pa. died unexpectedly Thursday morning June 7, 2007 in his home.

Born March 22, 1929 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County Pa., he was the son of the late Denton and Edith (Oberholzer) Berger.

In his earlier years he worked at the former Fulton Gsell Excavating of Waynesboro and then for 34 years he worked for Lee R. Hamner Excavating of Waynesboro. He last was employed for 10 years at Callas Construction Co. of Hagerstown.

Mr. Berger attended Hollowell Brethren In Christ Church near Waynesboro. He enjoyed walking, gardening, hunting and being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He and his wife, Gail L. (Overcash) Berger were married August 5, 1950 in Hagerstown.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are:

Two  daughters, Sandra K. Harmon of Willingboro, N.J. and Sharon A. McCartney of Chambersburg, Pa.

Two sons, Dennis R. Berger and David M. Berger, both of Waynesboro, Pa.

Three sisters, Anna Rock of Chambersburg, Pa, Edith Miller and Beulah Harshman, both of Greencastle, Pa.

Twelve grandchildren and Three great-grandchildren

Numerous Nephews and Nieces

He was preceded in death by: four brothers, William Berger, Ralph Berger, Tab Berger, Roy Berger and four sisters, Edith Bingaman, Alice Grosh, Helen Gsell and Frances Kell.

Funeral services will be held on Monday June 11 at 10:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. with Pastor Blaine Lougheed officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill cemetery Waynesboro. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 - 9 P.M. at the funeral home.
