Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Ruth H. Clarke

Ruth H. Clarke, 84, died Sunday, May 6, 2007, at her home.

Born in York, the daughter of the late William T. and Miriam (Welsh) Huntsman, she had been a resident of Williamsport most of her life.

Her many accomplishments include homemaker, teachers aid for the Loyalsock Township School District, volunteer for both Boy and Girl Scout organizations, and Little League Baseball Inc. She was a member of Faxon-Kenmar United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Stanley Clarke Jr. and a son, Michael.

Surviving are her children, Nancy (husband Ron) Cooper, Botkins, Ohio, Joanne Edmonds, Williamsport, and David (wife Raine) Clarke, Sitka, Alaska; her sister, Dorothy Hartman, Ephrata; two brothers, William T. Huntsman, State College and George Huntsman, Apopka, Fla.; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Ruth’s name to the American Lung Association, 3001 Old Gettysburg Road, Camp Hill, PA 17011; Susquehanna Home Care & Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701; or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by James C. Maneval Funeral Home of Williamsport.

Evan Andrew Pepper

Evan Andrew Pepper, infant son of Thomas Andrew and Shanna Robin (Fromille) Pepper was called home to Jesus on May 9, 2007, from the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

His time here on Earth though short, will always be cherished. From north to south, east to west, little Evan touched the hearts and lives of many.

In addition to his parents, beloved Baby Evan is survived by his maternal family; grandparents, Marilyn Morgan of Burlington and Anthony “Butch” (Elizabeth) Fromille of Canton; an aunt and two uncles; Robin and Terry Thomas of Michigan, Shawn Fromille (Michelle Ward) of Canton, and Corey Fromille of Canton. Evan’s paternal family includes grandparents, Tom L. and Brenda Pepper of Ogdensburg, great-grandparents, Tom and Janet Pepper of LeRoy and Ted and Norma Jean Schmelzle of Ogdensburg; three uncles, Travis (Amanda) Pepper, Taylor (Lacey) Pepper and Jonathan Pepper all of Ogdensburg; several great aunts, great uncles and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his step-grandfather, John Morgan and great-grandparents, Alberta and Anthony Fromille.

Andy and Shanna invite family and friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. for a time of support and viewing at the Pepper Funeral Home, Springbrook Drive, Canton. The Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at the Ogdensburg Church of Christ with Pastor William Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in Ogdensburg cemetery.

Michael H. Weymer

Michael H. Weymer, 51 of 1370 Morgan Ave, Loyalsock Twp., died May 9, 2007, in the Williamsport Hospital.

He was born May 20, 1955, in Middletown, N.Y., the son of William H. and Irene Sherman Weymer.

He was the Occupational Health and Safety Manager for the Federal Bureau of Prisons at Allenwood. Michael and his wife, the former Jill M. Napolitano, would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary June 23. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and was a Ham Radio operator.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Michael J. of South Williamsport; Mark A. of Williamsport; one daughter, Jennifer L. of York; one brother, John W. (Sue) of Port Jervis, N.Y.; one sister, Doreen Roache of Wallkill, N.Y.

A visitation will be held Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 202, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Mae A. Wanzer

Mae A. Wanzer, 50, of Tecumseh, Okla., passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from a brief illness.

Born in Williamsport in 1956 to Carl F. Orso Jr. and Rosemary (Steiner) Fay (deceased), Mae was a homemaker and a 1974 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She moved to Oklahoma in the late 1970s with her first husband, Gary Mertes (deceased).

Mae is survived by her  Father and husband, Phillip; daughter, Jeri (Casey) Brown of Oklahoma, Jolene (Nathan) Gibbs of North Dakota; son, Jedediah of Oklahoma; sisters, Miriam (Bill) Miller of Trout Run, Rebecca (Barry) Herr of Montoursville, LeslieLynn Dandrew of Oklahoma; brother, Carl F. (Stephany) Orso III of Montoursville; grandson, Hunter; stepdaughter, Brandon; four nieces and six nephews.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Arthur F. Frederick Jr.

Arthur F. Frederick Jr., 68, of Morris Run, died Wednesday May 9, 2007, at Broad Acres, Wellsboro.

Art was born in Philadelphia Aug. 17, 1938, the son of Arthur and Mary Frederick Sr.

Art is survived by his former wife Sheila Gerow Frederick; children JoAnn Frederick, Blossburg and Deborah Roe, Covington; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and brother Tom Frederick of Wysox.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg.

Aaron "Pete" Benfer
(May 29, 1932 - October 19, 2011)

Aaron W. (Pete) Benfer, Sr., 79, a resident of Watsontown, PA, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Muncy Valley Hospital following an extended illness. Born in East Buffalo Twp., Union Co., PA, on Sunday, May 29, 1932, he was the son of the late Ammon and Beulah (Baker) Benfer.

Pete was the widower of Hazel S. (Derr) Benfer who preceded him in death on February 15, 2009.

He was employed in the maintenance department of the former J.C. Decker Co. at Montgomery, PA for over 57 years and was also the caretaker of Fairview cemetery for over 57 years.

Pete was a social member of the Turbotville V.F.W. Post 8206, the Bower-Decker American Legion Post #251 at Montgomery and the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by three sons and  daughters-in-law, Wayne F. and Virginia Benfer, Muncy, PA; Aaron W. and Azel Benfer, Jr., Muncy, PA; Harold E. and Taffy Benfer, Watsontown, PA; four  daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra L. and Robert Hackenberg, Winfield, PA; Karen S. Tupper, Muncy, PA; Patty A. Miller, Montgomery, PA; Brenda Lee Price, York, PA. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Pete was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted from the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 22, 2011 with Reverend Richard M. Barner officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the church. The family requests no flowers. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the Warrior Run Area Fire Department, 1125 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777 or to the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co., 24 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, PA 17752.

Danny M. McCarty, Sr.
(September 7, 1948 - October 27, 2011)

Danny M. McCarty, Sr., 63, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at his residence following a brief illness. Born in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA, on Tuesday, September 7, 1948, he was the son of the late Max E. McCarty and Leone M. (Crandell) McCarty who survives him of Milton, PA.

Danny was a 1967 graduate of Lewistown High School. He was employed by MB Companies at Montgomery, PA.

He was a social member of V.F.W. Post 3428 at Muncy and the Men's Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post 7227 at Carthage, NY. Danny enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson and his summer trips to New York.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by four children, Danny M. and Tanya McCarty, Jr., Carthage, NY; DeAnn and Randy Goeman, Carthage, NY; James McCarty, Montgomery, PA; Jaime and Jason Kichline, Mechanicsburg, PA; six grandchildren, David Snyder; Bradley Goeman; Seth McCarty; Lindsay McCarty; Kaitlyn McCarty; Eli Kichline and one great-grandson, Connor Goeman. In addition to his  Father, Danny was preceded in death by his brother, Michael McCarty, and grandson, Bailey McCarty.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 31, 2011 with Reverend Richard M. Barner, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Robert G. Betzer
(April 5, 1925 - November 13, 2011)

Robert G. Betzer, 86, a resident of Milton, PA, formerly of Lewisburg for 63 years, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the RiverWoods at Lewisburg where he had been a guest for the past week. Born in Mahoning Twp., Montour County, PA, on Sunday, April 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Merrill H. and Nancy (Ranck) Betzer. Bob was raised in the Odd Fellows Orphanage at Sunbury.

He was the husband of Janet M. (Hettinger) Betzer with whom he celebrated a 63rd wedding anniversary on July 5, 2011.

He attended Sunbury High School. Bob honorably served his country during the Second World War with the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He was employed as a supervisor by the former Lewisburg Chair and Furniture Co. from 1943 to 1965 and retired from the Young Door Co. at Sunbury in 1986 where he had been employed as a night supervisor since 1965.

Bob was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church at Lewisburg where he was a former Sunday School superintendent, president of St. Paul's Men, Sunday School teacher and trustee. Bob was a Sunday speaker for the Pennsylvania Council on Alcohol Problems. He was a member and past vice-president of the Union County Sunday School Association where he received the 50 Year Service Sunday School Award. Bob was a charter member of V.F.W. Post 7715 at Lewisburg, In 1943 he became a member of Lewisburg Lodge #96, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and became very active in various groups associated with the lodge. He was past State Grand Chaplain, past president and treasurer of the Central PA Odd Fellows and Rebekah's Anniversary Association, past president and member of the board of the former Odd Fellows Orphanage at Sunbury where he was involved in the Alumni Association, a former board member of the I.O.O.F. Home at Middletown and was also a member of Faith, Hope & Charity Rebekah Lodge. Bob enjoyed hunting and woodworking.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Nancy E. Kessler, Saratoga, CA; Galen R. and Josette Betzer, Muncy, PA; Ginny L. and Lee Shreck, Milton, PA; nine grandchildren, Dione Wright; Christian Kessler; Adrienne Phillips; Danielle Mina; Andreasha Gardner; Andrea Poehler; Alissa Detman; Justin Betzer; Andrew Shreck. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Betzer and Margaret Kooney and by two brothers, Merrill H. (Hebe) Betzer, Jr. and William H. Betzer, Sr.

A celebration of Bob's life will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth Street, Lewisburg, PA at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 with Rev. Judi A. Dunkelberger, his pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the Lewisburg cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA or on Tuesday from 12:00 - 1:30 P.M. at the church. Lewisburg IOOF Lodge #96 will conduct a memorial service on Tuesday at 11:45 A.M. at the church. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Lewisburg area veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 42 S. Fourth Street, Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Catherine L. Wertz
(June 29, 1924 - November 16, 2011)

Catherine L. Wertz, 87, of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Born in Gregg Twp., Union County, PA, on Sunday, June 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Howard H. and Elizabeth (Huff) Kahle.

She was the widow of Robert R. Wertz who preceded her in death on April 20, 2000.

Catherine was employed as a warper by the former Montgomery Mills and had also been employed at the former Bobbi Brooks at Montgomery.

She was a member of the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church at Montgomery, PA. Cate enjoyed reading and word find puzzles.

Catherine is survived by one son, Terry L. Wertz, Montgomery, PA and one brother, Chester Kahle, South Williamsport, PA. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Elmer Kahle, John Kahle, Charles Kahle and Fred Kahle and by three sisters, Estella Warren, Pearl Haines and Erma Gair.

Funeral services will be conducted from the St. John Lutheran "Brick" Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 with Reverend MarthaSue Moll, her pastor, officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Lutheran "Brick" cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 12:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the church. The family will provide the flowers. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lycoming Unit, 1948 E. Third Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.

R. Stephen Opp
(August 11, 1943 - November 21, 2011)

Robert Stephen Opp, 68, a resident of Montoursville, PA, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 in The Gatehouse at Williamsport, PA following a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA, on Wednesday, August 11, 1943, he was the son of the late Robert Kimber and Jeannette (Hester) Opp.

Steve was a 1961 graduate of Muncy High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in English from Muhlenberg College in 1965. He had served with the National Guard. He was employed as a salesman by Alcan Cable, Williamsport, PA retiring in 2001. Steve was then employed by South Wire, Atlanta, GA and then the Pennsylvania State Liquor Control Board from which he retired in March of this year to truly enjoy life.

Steve was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, the Susquehanna Boat Club and the National Rifle Association. He loved to boat and fish and enjoyed being in the out of doors.

He is survived by one son, James Stephen Opp, Helena, MT; two brothers, Richard K. Opp, Muncy, PA; Rodney H. Opp, South Williamsport, PA; his long time companion, Sharlene Hain, Montoursville, PA and his beloved dog, Cami.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 26, 2011 with Brian Osman officiating. Interment will be in the Twin Hills Memorial Park, Fairfield Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:00 - 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Robert J. Dalrymple
(October 17, 1940 - November 25, 2011)

Robert J. (Ripple) Dalrymple, 71, a resident of 250 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, PA, passed away at 5:40 A.M. on Friday, November 25, 2011 in the Muncy Valley Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA, on Thursday, October 17, 1940, he was the son of the late John and Emma (Hart) Dalrymple.

Bob was the husband of Freda M. (Brink) Dalrymple with whom he celebrated a 37th wedding anniversary on February 17, 2011.

Bob was last employed as a security guard by Century Security at Williamsport, PA . He was also employed by the former Ulrich Assembly at Watsontown, PA.

He enjoyed canvas work and watching car racing and wrestling on the television.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Christopher W. and Lindsay Dalrymple, Montgomery, PA; John R. Dalrymple, Montgomery, PA; two sisters and two brothers, Elizabeth Campbell, Michigan; William Dalrymple, Conn.; John Dalrymple, Hampton, VA; Emily Sterling, Alabama and one grandson, Camden Dalrymple. Bob was preceded in death by one sister, Miriam Way.

Friends will be received by the family at the Dalrymple residence, 250 Montgomery Street, Montgomery, PA on Thursday, December 1, 2011 after 11:00 A.M.

Louis J. Belisle, Jr.
(July 24, 1955 - December 2, 2011)

Louis J. (Boe) Belisle, Jr., 56, a resident of Allenwood, PA, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2011 at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Chico, Butte County, CA, on Sunday, July 24, 1955, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Helen (Kennedy) Belisle.

Boe was the husband of Bonnie L. (Koch) Belisle with whom he celebrated a 38th wedding anniversary on February 23, 2011.

He honorably served with the U.S. Army.

He was last employed as an operator by Shop Vac at Williamsport, PA.

Boe was a member of the Hughesville American Legion Post #51 and enjoyed woodworking and his Jeep.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Louis Jackson Belisle, III, Muncy, PA; Shane D. Belisle, Allenwood, PA; Brandy and Robbie Newcomer, Williamsport, PA; Cherish K. Belisle, Allenwood, PA; Brittney Belisle, Allenwood, PA; three sisters, Virginia Balensky, Sweden; Cheri Olive, Nevada; Kim Reyes, Florida; two brothers, Francis Fees, California; Steve Belisle, Florida; his faithful dog Ralph and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 with Rebecca Cuddeback, CLM, officiating. Interment will be in the Green Lawn Memorial Park, Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the joint veterans organizations. Friends and relatives are invited to the Washington Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. at Elimsport following the committal service.

Diane M. Persing
(January 30, 1948 - December 3, 2011)

Diane M. Persing, 63, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2011 in the Geisinger Medical Center. Born in Clinton Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Friday, January 30, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Grimm and Betty (Bennett) Grimm who survives her of Watsontown, PA.

Diane was the widow of Byron H. Persing who preceded her in death on January 9, 2010.

Diane was a 1966 graduate of Montgomery High School

She was a CNA and worked at Rose View Manor in Williamsport, Pa. until she moved to Florida in 1994. Diane continued CNA work in Florida and then moved back to Pennsylvania in 2010. The joy of her life were her grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by two sons and  daughters-in-law, Tim S. and Heather Persing , Montgomery, PA; Tom C. and Dawn Persing, Montgomery, PA; three brothers, Dale (Linda) Grimm, Montgomery, PA; Thomas (Ruth) Grimm, Montgomery, PA; Larry (Vickie) Grimm, Hughesville, PA; one sister, Kathy (Earl) Carson, Elimsport, PA. Diane is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Taylor, Kylie, Parker, Kaitlin, Faith and Briar Persing and 13 nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 41 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA at 6:00 P.M. on Friday, December 9, 2011 with Rebecca Cuddeback, CLM officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the church. Fellowship will follow at Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Hall, 2311 State Route 54, Montgomery, PA.

Adam R. Anderson
(November 14, 1974 - December 25, 2011)

Adam R. Anderson, 37, a resident of Muncy, PA, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2011. Born in Williamsport, Lycoming County, PA, on Thursday, November 14, 1974, he was the son of Robert C. Anderson and Carol A. Winter. He was the husband of Jennifer (Laird) Anderson.

Adam was a 1993 graduate of Montgomery High School. He was employed as a mechanic by Pic brothers Auto Sales at Muncy, PA.

Adam enjoyed playing pool and was a member of a local pool league. He was also an avid car and four-wheeler buff.

In addition to his wife, Adam is survived by his  Father, Robert C. Anderson, of Cogan Station; his mother and  Father, Carol A. and Daniel Griffith of Allenwood, PA; two sons, Brian A. Anderson; Seth M. Anderson; four half-brothers, Robert A. (Bianca) Bebble, Williamsport, PA; Christopher T. Bebble, Cleveland, OH; Matthew W. (Amy) Griffith, Allenwood, PA; Andrew C. Griffith, Jersey Shore, PA; one step-brother, Craig A. Griffith, Williamsport, PA; his maternal grandmother, Marjorie A. Winter, S. Williamsport, PA; his mother and  Father-in-law, Carl and Martha Laird, Muncy, PA; three brothers-in-law, Kevin Laird, Muncy, PA; Corey (Heather) Laird; Shawn Laird, Muncy, PA; one sister-in-law, Karen (Scott) Henry, Muncy, PA. Adam is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his step-sister, Vanessa Griffith.

Janet M. Stroup
(November 22, 1940 - January 8, 2012)

Janet M. Stroup, 71, a resident of South Market Street, Muncy, PA, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in the Gatehouse at Williamsport, PA following a brief illness. Born in Franklin Twp., Lycoming County, PA, on Friday, November 22, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Buss and Adda (Gordner) Diltz.

Janet was the wife of William B. Stroup with whom she celebrated a 39th wedding anniversary on July 20, 2011.

She was a 1958 graduate of Hughesville High School. Janet was employed by the former GTE Sylvania at Montoursville and was last employed by the former Atwood Fabrics at Muncy. Janet had also been employed as a home health aid. Her most enjoyable job of all was raising her family.

She was a member of the New Life Church at Pennsdale, PA. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and puzzles.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Sherry (George Lightcap) Stroup, Blackwood, NJ; Douglas (Karen) Stroup, Berwick, PA; Eric (Erica) Stroup, Picture, Rocks, PA; Richard Stroup, Muncy, PA; Randy Stroup, Muncy, PA; two sisters, Leona (Alan) Poust, Hughesville, PA; Dorothy (Carl) Fraley, Muncy, PA; five grandchildren, Chylee Stroup; Sara Stroup; Benjamin Stroup; Lauren Stroup and Timothy Stroup. She was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin O. Diltz.

A memorial service will be conducted from the New Life Church, 1006 Village Road, Pennsdale, PA at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 with Reverend Robert A. Lauver, her pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 3544 North Progress Avenue, Suite 101, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Arrangements are being handled by the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 North Main Street, Muncy, PA.
