Elvira Rumsey

Elvira Rumsey died at age 86 on January 12, 2008 at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro, PA. Recently a resident of The Laurels at 39 Central Avenue, Wellsboro, Mrs. Rumsey formerly resided in Bath, NY and Westfield, PA. She was born December 3, 1921 in Arnot, PA to Carl August Anderson and Hilda Bloom Anderson and was the granddaughter of Swedish immigrants; Elvira was named Matilda Sophia, taking the names of both Swedish grandmothers. She was married on June 17, 1939 in Wellsboro, PA to Darold H. Rumsey. Mrs. Rumsey was predeceased in death by her husband of years who died on June 10, 2006 and by an infant daughter, Karyl Joy Rumsey who died on August 7, 1942. She is survived by one sister, Helen Verheyen, of Carlsbad CA, and by a daughter and son-in-law, Sonya R. and Gary M. Gleason. Also surviving her are three grandchildren: David Rumsey Gleason (and Lyla Naseem) of New York, NY; Sarah Elizabeth Taylor (and Jeremy Taylor) of Rochester, NY; and Kristina Karyl Gleason of Burlington, VT.

Two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Kristina Taylor and Leo Gary Clive Taylor, cousins, Betty Sumner of Richmond, VA; Stuart Sherk of Wayne, PA; Lois Murphy of Norristown, PA. Nieces, Susan Sweet of Wellsboro, PA; Karen Durand of Falling Waters, WVA; Lisa Cassidy of Rancho Santa Fe, CA; Leola Porter of Rush, NY; Lola Trippel of Kent, WA; Joyce Broadbent of York, PA; Joan Abeling of Carlisle, PA; nephews, Harvey Rumsey of Westfield, PA; George Rumsey, Jr. of Watkins Glen, NY; Keith Simmons of Syracuse, NY, also survive Elvira. Mrs. Rumsey was a partner with her husband for over sixty years in numerous business ventures including a five-farm agricultural operation, an auctioneering business, a ballroom dance hall, the Cow Palace Restaurant, and a Welsh-Morgan performance driving pony entourage. Memberships and activities included Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women, Church Vestry, Church Altar Guild, Sunday School Teaching, and membership in various carriage driving societies.

Most assuredly, Elviras greatest personal interests were maintaining written and spoken communication with friends, reading voraciously, and above all else her family, whom she loved without exception. Elviras life on earth will be celebrated at a service in her memory at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Wellsboro, PA at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008. As she enters the spiritual realm to which she has always aspired, family members and guests will gather following the service at a reception at the Penn Wells Hotel on Main Street in Wellsboro to pay tribute and share memories of a life well-lived. Memorials may be given to St. James Episcopal Organ Fund, Lake and Main Streets, Hammondsport, NY or to the Wellsboro Relay for Life, 5 East Avenue, Wellsboro, PA.

Beatrice I. (Elliott) Patterson

Beatrice I. (Elliott) Patterson age 86 of Roseville, PA, died Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Beatrice was the wife of the late Ernest M. Patterson who died in 1979. She was born on January 20, 1921, a daughter of Darwin Amos and Lena (Gee) Elliott. Beatrice had been employed by the A& P in Elmira, NY for 16 years. She was a member of the Roseville United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society. Beatrice loved her family and was an avid quilter and seamstress.

Beatrice is survived by two sons and  daughters-in-law; Edward E. (Karen) Patterson of Port St. Lucie, FL, Larry R. (Bonnie J.) Patterson of Addison, NY, two  daughters and a son-in-law; June E. Wilbur of Manchester Center, VT, Lois J. (Jessie J.)Oliver of Williamsport, PA, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, expecting her first great great grandchild any day, a brother and sister-in-law Lewis D. (Virginia) Elliott of Elmira Heights, NY, two sisters Doris DePew of Elmira Heights, NY, and Jean Calderone of Trenton, NJ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, January 20, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 1 PM at the funeral home with her pastor the Rev. Kevin Brophy officiating. Burial will be in Roseville cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Roseville United Methodist Church or to the Mansfield Hose Company.

Ellery I. Beagle

Ellery I. Beagle age 83 of Mansfield, PA died Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at his home in Mansfield, PA. Ellery was born on March 17, 1924 in Arnot, PA the son of James and Hazel Beagle. He was a graduate of Mansfield High School, served in combat in the European Theater during WWII. He married his wife Shirley Sours on June 2, 1948. They would have observed their 60th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2008. Ellery was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mansfield, PA. He had been employed as a meat cutter at Mudges Grocery Market, and later, following the death of Pete Mudge, became a partner with Irene Mudge. Later still, the business became Ellerys Market. Finally, he became a government meat inspector.

He had a passion for sports and became the sponsor and coach for the Mansfield Ravens basketball team and the Ravens softball team. The basketball team became well known for its outstanding record in competition with other area teams especially in Elmira and Williamsport. For many years, he was an avid deer hunter, golfer and snowmobiler. In retirement, he took great pride in the care of his home and property.

Though he and Shirley had no children of their own, Ellery took great interest in the children of the community and encouraged their participation in sports.

Ellery is survived by his wife Shirley, cousins David and Geraldine Lapp, Dennis and Nancy Johnson all of Horseheads, NY, Danny and Shari Grafius of Elmira, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.

John J. Polonia

John J. Polonia, age 39 of Wellsboro, PA, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. John was born September 30, 1968 in Johnstown, PA, a son of Guy and Louise (Mitchell) Polonia. John was the husband of Melissa (Torpy) Polonia. He graduated from Wellsboro High School in 1986 and was employed by BiLo Market in Wellsboro, PA for 22 years. John and his brothers enjoyed making horror movies.

John is survived by his wife, Melissa; a son, Nicholas John Polonia, at home; his parents, Guy and Louise Polonia of Wellsboro, PA; brothers and sisters, Debra (Jim) Grove of Johnstown, PA, David (Tammy) Polonia of Concord, NH, Diana (John) Pagano of Wellsboro, PA, and his twin brother, Mark (Maria) Polonia of Wellsboro, PA; mother-in-law and  Father-in-law, Robert and Mary Torpy of Middlebury Center, PA; two brothers-in-law, Steve (Krista) Torpy of Wellsboro, PA and Clifford Torpy at his parents home in Middlebury, PA; several nieces and nephews.

Lois (Swanson) Leipold

Lois (Swanson) Leipold, of Mansfield, PA, went to rest May 6, 2007. She was predeceased by her husband, James R. Leipold. She is survived by her daughter, Linda L. Folk and her husband Edwin Folk of Easton, PA; grandchildren: James (Rick) Folk and his wife Krista of Flower Mound, TX, and Heather L. Kupres and her husband, David of Pen Argyle, PA; five great-grandchildren: Ryan, Ben and Gillian Folk and Connor and Emma Kupres.

Lois was a graduate of West Chester University and was an elementary school teacher for 30 years. She was a member of the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and Pennsylvania State Retirees. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Mansfield. She was a long-time volunteer in the gift shop and the out-patient department at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA, as well as Past-President of the Ladies Auxiliary. Lois was a former member of Corey Creek Golf Club.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service celebrating Lois life and love will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Lois memory to the SPCA, Mansfield Road, Wellsboro, PA 16901. Arrangements are under the direction of the Jacquelyn A. Amy J. Monks

Amy J. Monks, Blossburg, PA, went to be with Our Lord and Savior, Monday, April 16 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 29, 1971 in Blossburg, she is the daughter of John E. (Ed) and Beverly J. Brucklacher of Liberty.

She is survived by her husband of 61/2 years, Todd M. Monks, daughter, Bailey Joy Monks, her parents, John E. and Beverly J. Brucklacher of Liberty, a sister Mary J. Myers and husband Gary L. Myers of Lock Haven, a brother John E. Brucklacher III of Liberty, a nephew Bradley S. Myers, three nieces Katelyn D. and Abby L. Brucklacher and Kelsey A. Monks, her  Father-in-law and mother-in-law Alba and Gale Monks of Wellsboro.

Amy grew up in Liberty and graduated from Liberty Jr. Sr. High School in 1989. She attended Cedar Crest College and graduated in 1993 with a Bachelors Degree in English. After serving in the U.S. Air-force, Amy returned home and attended Mansfield University where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. Amy was a member of Liberty Bible Church and also Mary Wells Chapter 452 O.E.S., Wellsboro.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 3:00 PM at the Liberty Bible Church with the Rev. Lon Williams officiating. Prior to the memorial service an O.E.S. service will be held.

The immediate family will provide the flowers for the service. In lieu of flowers, Amy requested that memorial contributions be made to the Liberty Bible Church, c/o Children's Ministry, P.O. Kaci Sue Aumick

Kaci Sue Aumick, infant daughter of Dennis Aumick and Terri (Jayne) Makley of Mansfield, PA, was born and died on Thursday, April 25, 2007 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA.

In addition to her parents, Kaci is survived by her maternal grandmother, Gloria Hamby of Mansfield, PA

Lucille M. (Wilkins) Morgan

Lucille M. (Wilkins) Morgan, age 87, a resident of The Green Home, formerly of Mainesburg, PA, died on Thursday, May 3, 2007 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Lucille was born on September 26, 1919 in Mainesburg, PA, a daughter of Lloyd and Ruby (Seymour) Wilkins. She was the wife of George Nelson Morgan for 62 years.

Lucille assisted her husband in dairy farming and working with her husband in the woods. She was a member of the Austinville Union Church and the Troy Grange for over 50 years. Lucille enjoyed sewing, the missionary society, crocheting, bird watching, traveling, sight seeing, singing and playing music. She was a very compassionate person who opened her home to the needy and less fortunate.

Lucille is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Vernon and Peggy Morgan of Mainesburg, PA; three  daughters and sons-in-law, Yvonne Vonnie and Larry Smith, Ruby and George Blow, Linda and Floyd McCaslin all of Mainesburg, PA; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia Lyons of Troy, PA; Rev. Arlene Wilkins of Florida; Marjorie and Nathan Blow of East Smithfield, PA; Marcella and Robert Reed of Canada; Gloria and Rev. Kenneth Marple of Troy, PA; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Wilkins of Florida; Irma and Fay Morgan of Troy, PA; one brother-in-law, James Morgan of Troy, PA; thirteen grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren. Lucille was predeceased by her husband, George Nelson Morgan, Jr. on Feb. 27, 2003 and a brother, Lloyd Wilkins, Jr.

Janet E. (Butler) Davis

Janet E. (Butler) Davis, age 66, of Tioga, PA, died on Friday, May 4, 2007 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, PA. Janet was born on April 25, 1941 in Blossburg, PA, the daughter of Ernest and Ella (Reese) Butler. She was married to the late Ralph H. Davis. Janet graduated from Williamson Jr. and Sr. High School. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and crocheting.

Janet is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chris and Rachel Davis of Tioga, PA; Brion Davis of Erwin, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Daryl Butch and Pat Butler of Tioga, PA; five grandchildren, Erica, Amanda, Felicia, C.J. and Nicole; three great grandchildren, MaKayla, Dylan and Trenton; several nieces and two nephews. Janet was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Davis in 1999, a sister, Phyllis Stone in 2002 and a brother, Harold Butler in 1966.

Robert Willard Holmos

Robert Willard Holmos, age 57, of Blossburg, PA, died on Monday, May 7, 2007. He was born on February 15, 1950 in Theif Rivers, Minnesota, the son of Willard and Ione Holmos. Robert was married to Bonnie (Seeley) Holmos.

Robert retired from the U.S. Navy after 22 years during which he served in the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. He was employed for 12 years as a supervisor for Ward Manufacturing. Robert enjoyed ships.

In addition to his wife, Bonnie, Robert is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jennifer Holmos of Blossburg, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Bice of Ulysses, PA; a sister, Sandra of MN, a special niece whom he raised as a daughter, Makayla Ribble of Blossburg, PA; and four grandchildren, Chris, Payden, Skylie and Alexie.

Richard G. Dick Sargent

Richard G. 'Dick' Sargent age 66 of Wellsboro, PA died on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on March 26, 1941 in Mansfield, PA a son of Frank and Florence (Barnes). He was a lifelong farmer. Dick enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, hunting for Ginseng.

Dick is survived by a son James Sargent of Millerton, PA; two  daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and Daryl Berry of Tioga, PA, Tammy and Glenn Aumick of Millerton, PA; a longtime companion and best friend Martha Copp of Wellsboro, PA and her children Cindy Wilcox of Mainesburg, PA, and Steven Copp of Colorado; six grandchildren Alesia, Zackery, Nicole, Tory, Garrett and Miranda ; two brothers and a sister-in-law William Bill and Arlene Sargent of Horseheads, NY, Eugene Gene Sargent of Tioga, PA; four sisters and brothers-in-law Joan (Bob) Heichel of Mansfield, PA, JoAnna (Jack) Shaw of Blossburg, PA, Ruth (Doug) Thomas of Mansfield, PA, Betty (Joe) Thompson of Mansfield, PA; five sisters-in-law Stella Sargent, Ruth Pollison, Doris Sargent, Ellie Sargent all of Mansfield, Georgia Sargent of Tioga, PA. He was preceded in death by five brothers Neal, Leo, Douglas, Frank Jr., Bobby, and a sister Frances Burnham.

Dr. John C. (Doc) Heaps

Dr. John C. (Doc) Heaps, age 76, of Mansfield, PA, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. John was born on November 6, 1930 in Renovo, PA, a son of LeRoy and Elizabeth (Ammeter) Heaps. He was married to Claire (Stout) Heaps for 54 years. John was a Professor of Education at Mansfield University. He graduated from Lock Haven State College in 1952 with a B.S. in Elementary Education, Penn State University in 1958 with a M. Ed in Elementary Education and in 1967 with a D. Ed in Elementary Education. John was employed from 1973-1974 as a 3rd grade teacher in Lincoln, England, 1956-1959 at Noyes Township Elementary School as a classroom teacher, 1959-1964 at Mansfield State College as Campus School Supervisor, 1964-1993 at Mansfield University as Professor of Education, 1994 to 2004 at Elmira College as a Supervisor of Student Teaching. While at Mansfield University he helped develop a Gifted and Talented Camp for regional children. John was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Korea. He was a member of North Bend Methodist Church and enjoyed playing tennis, trivial pursuit, skiing, crossword puzzles, attended all the team sporting events at the high school, and assisted coaching tennis. John was an avid writer, a world traveler, and had written a book called Headwaters Country The Story of Tioga County.

John is survived by his wife, Claire (Stout) Heaps; a son and daughter-in-law, Curt and Debra Heaps of Mansfield, PA; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Edward Lenhardt of Elmira, NY; four grandchildren, Lance, Jessica, Alyssa and Sarah; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Jordayn and Kyle. John was preceded in death by a son, Stan Heaps in 1997, seven brothers and sisters, Beatrice Heaps, Isabelle Gilroy, Dorothy Miller, Frederick Heaps, LeRoy Heaps, William Heaps, and Ronald Heaps.

Delbert A. 'Del' Doud

Delbert A. Del Doud age 67 of Mansfield, PA died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro, PA. Del was the husband of Marilyn (Putnam) Doud they would have observed a 42nd wedding anniversary on June 12, 2007. He was born on July 29, 1939 in Mansfield, PA a son of Walter and Norma (Corwin) Doud. Del retired from the Northern Tioga School District after teaching the 5th grade for 26 years at the former Millerton Elementary School. He was a member of the East Lawrence Baptist Church, the PSEA-R, and the NEA-R. Delbert served in the Mansfield National Guard. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Del often referred to himself as the frustrated farmer. His favorite hobbies were raising beef animals, chickens, and gardening.

Del is survived by his wife, Marilyn.

JoAnn M. 'Joan' (Connors) Fattarusso

JoAnn M. 'Joan' (Connors) Fattarusso, age 75, of Troy, PA died on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born on August 7, 1931 in Long Island, NY, a daughter of Joseph and Claudia M. (Vreeland) Connors. She was the wife of the late Thomas J. Fattarusso for 54 years. Thomas died on June 6, 2005. Joan was a 1949 graduate of the Troy Area High School. She was a member of the Olde Covert Church and the Red Hatters, Troy, PA. Joan loved her family and enjoyed crocheting and word search puzzles.

Joan is survived by three  daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Maletta of Northport, NY, Suzanne and James Maher of Holbrook, NY, Michele Fattarusso, North Babylon, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Debra Fattarusso of Huntington, NY; three grandchildren, Ryan, Robert, Thomas; a sister, Katherine Kupchin of Troy, PA; two nephews, Robert Kupchin of Troy, PA and Bill Kupchin of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Theodore Ted Jayne

Theodore Ted Jayne, age 63, of Mansfield, PA, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1944 in Elmira, NY, the son of Edwin and Marion (Williams) Jayne. Ted was married to Belva (McKay) Jayne.

Ted was employed in construction and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, touring in his Ford, metal detecting and NASCAR.

In addition to his wife, Belva, Ted is survived by five  daughters and sons-in-law, Tammy (Dennis) Bailey, Sr., of Mainesburg, PA

Russell P. Divido

Russell P. Divido age 85 of Millerton, PA died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2007 at 1 PM at the Bath National cemetery in Bath NY. Services are under the direction of the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA.

Carl M. Freeman

Carl M. Freeman, age 81, of Wellsboro, PA, died Friday, May 11, 2007 at his home. Carl was the husband of the late Ida (Smith) Freeman for 54 years. He was born on February 10, 1926 in Endicott, NY, a son of Carl and Florence (Comstock) Freeman. Carl retired from the former Borden Food Company in Wellsboro, PA. He was multitalented man who was a marksman, an expert at tooling leather, he won many awards as a painter, and enjoyed making guns.

Carl is survived by a son, Lance M. Freeman of Wellsboro, PA; a daughter, Michelle Freeman of Emporium, PA; three grandchildren, Carole and Trooper Craig Heim, Eric and Eryn Fiebig, Justin Fiebig; three great grandchildren, Arron Burnside, Bryce Heim, and Jonathon Heim, all of Emporium, PA. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Freeman, on June 16, 2006, and a brother, Harold Freeman.

In keeping with Carls wishes there will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA.

Marian (Quale) Chase

Marian (Quale) Chase age 91 formerly of Gillett, PA, died Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Carleton Care Home in Wellsboro, PA. She was the wife of the late Henry Chase. Marian was born on September 26, 1915 in Jobs Corners a daughter of Robert and Edna Gates Quale. Marian enjoyed farming and was a member of the Fassett Baptist Church.

Marian is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Carson and Susan Chase of White Mountain Lake, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, Ronda Patterson, Ranee Lane, Randy Chase, Carrie Clark, Philip Clark, Michelle Nichols, 23 great grandchildren nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Clausen Chase, husband Henry, a brother and sisters.

Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, May 26, 2007 from 1 PM to 3 PM at the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC 637 S. Main St. Mansfield, PA. Funeral services will immediately follow the viewing at 3 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park.

Virginia Mae Bennison McCanna

Virginia Mae Bennison McCanna, of Torbert, departed this life May 7, 2007, at the home of her daughter. She was 89.

She was born in Marion Township, Centre County, the daughter of Robert H. and Mabel E. (Yearick) Bennison. She attended the Frane School and Howard High School before graduating from Lock Haven High School. She received her teaching certificate from the present Lock Haven University. She received her bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

She taught elementary education for twenty-five years, serving in schools in Tusseyville, Lemont, Bradford, State College, Montoursville, Oval, South Avis and Jersey Shore before retiring in 1980. Following her retirement she worked in Nantucket, MA and help establish, along with her daughter, Noah’s Ark Nursery School in the Tiadaghton Mall in Jersey Shore.

In addition to her role as a mother and her career in education she was active in numerous civic affairs. She was a member of the Jersey Shore Public Library Board of Trustees for 23 years, and served during her tenure as President, Secretary and Chair of various committees. She was a member of the Lycoming County Library System Board for 8 years, and had served as its Secretary. She was a member of the Jersey Shore Garden Club, where she was a past President. She was a member of the Fort Antes Chapter NSDAR, and served as Regent, Vice –Regent and Chair of various committees. She was active in the Williamsport-Lycoming County Council of Republican Women, and served it as a Vice President. She was a Republican County Committee Member representing Watson Township for a number of years.

She was active in the church, serving at various times as President of the United Methodist Women (1st Methodist Church - Jersey Shore) and the Central Pennsylvania Conference Board as Publicity Chair. She was a member of numerous professional education organizations.

She was an active traveler, an avid bridge player, and an indefatigable supporter of Penn State football.

Her flowerbeds were renowned.

In 1949 she married the love of her life, Francis O. McCanna, in Jacksonville, Pa.; who predeceased her in 1972. Her sister Nellie E. Brown and her beloved twin brother McDowell S. Bennison also predeceased her. She was the mother of two children; Jeffrey F. McCanna of Walpole, N.H. and Laura E. McCanna DeCapria of Jersey Shore, who survive her. She is also survived by her five grandchildren; Benjamin P. McCanna of Rockland, ME, Nicholas F. DeCapria, Noah J. DeCapria and Natasha E. DeCapria of Jersey Shore, and Nathan S. DeCapria of Stillwater, OK. Numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive her, in particular her grand niece Joyce Flynn with whom she spent most Fridays.

Relatives and friends are invited to Virginia’s Life Celebration memorial service 10 a.m. Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., Jersey Shore with her pastor, the Rev. Charles D. Winkelman assisted by Southern Care Hospice Chaplain, the Rev. Randy L. Perry. A receiving of friends will be from 9 until 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Jersey Shore cemetery.

In lieu of flowers family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the Jersey Shore Public Library, 110 Oliver St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.

Arrangements are being handled by the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home “A Life Celebration Home” 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore.

Mae A. Wanzer

Mae A. Wanzer, 50, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away on May 2, 2007 from a brief illness.

Born in Williamsport in 1956, to Carl F. Orso Jr. and Rosemary (Steiner) Fay (deceased).

Mae was a homemaker and a 1974 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. She moved to Oklahoma in the late 70’s with her first husband, Gary Mertes (deceased).

Mae is survived by her  Father and husband, Phillip; daughter, Jeri (Casey) Brown of Oklahoma, Jolene (Nathan) Gibbs of North Dakota; son, Jedediah of Oklahoma; sisters, Miriam (Bill) Miller of Trout Run, Rebecca (Barry) Herr of Montoursville, LeslieLynn Dandrew of Oklahoma; brother, Carl F. (Staphany) Orso III of Montoursville; grandson, Hunter; stepdaughter, Brandon; four nieces and six nephews.

Per her wishes, there will be no funeral service.

Toinette T. Oberdorf

Toinette T. Oberdorf, 31, of 1623 W. Market St., Lewisburg, died Monday, May 7, 2007, at Sunbury Community Hospital.

Born Dec. 16, 1975, in Johannesburg, South Africa, she was a daughter of Japie and Annali Fourie. She was a graduate of Rustenburg High School in South Africa.

She and her husband of seven years, Max A. Oberdorf, were married Feb. 14, 2000.

Toinette was employed by Gordon’s Jewelers in the Susquehanna Valley Mall for the past four years and was recently awarded the Gordon’s Jeweler’s Emerald Gold Pin for the elite program. She enjoyed baking, crocheting and quilting.

She was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Lewisburg.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her parents and maternal grandmother, Bridget, all of South Africa; one daughter, Briana K. Oberdorf, at home; two stepchildren, Damon Oberdorf of Frederick, Md., and Courtney Brouse of Kramer; and one step-grandson, Brady Brouse.

Friends will be received Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, S. 2nd and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg. The funeral will be held following the visitation at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Kaminski, pastor of First United Church of Christ, Pottsville.

The family is setting up a trust fund in Briana’s name and suggests contributions in Toinette’s memory be made to Max Oberdorf and mailed to 1623 W. Market St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.

Jean Marie Shaffer

Jean Marie Shaffer, age 52, passed away suddenly on Friday, May 4, 2007. Jean was a lifelong Williamsport resident.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Williamsport.

Jean was a devoted wife and loving mother and nana. She enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren.

Jean will be sadly missed by her husband, Edward C. Shaffer; their children, Romaine A. Noviello (Seth) of Williamsport, Charles M. Shaffer of Florida, Jackie D. Barnett (Jeff), also of Florida, Keith P. Richards of Maryland, Ashley D. Richards, Andrew M. Shaffer and Scott T. Shaffer, all of Williamsport. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Desirae, Nicholas, Drake, Kada, Savanna, Donovan, Trenton and Anika. Jean is also survived by her mother, Helen Smith, her mother-in-law, Susan Shaffer and two sisters.

Family and friends are invited to Jean’s Life Celebration on Thursday evening only from 6-9 p.m. at the James C. Maneval Funeral Home, 500 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, PA 17701. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport. Her interment will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Shaffer Family Fund, c/o Maneval Funeral Home.
