Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

Joseph Brennan

U.S. Flag Joseph Brennan, Jackson Road, Lehman Township, died Friday at home.
He was born in Larksville, son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Barry Brennan, and was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Nanticoke.

A resident of Lehman Township for the last 23 years, Mr. Brennan was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Larksville American Legion Post 655.

A daughter, Jolene, and granddaughters, Kelly and Dawn Renee Krantz, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Madeline Yaniszewski; sons, Joseph Jr., Edwardsville; Frank, Trucksville; Scot, Lehman township;  daughters, Barbara Kaleta, Hudson; Rita Krantz, Pittston; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9 from Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in Holy Trinity Church. Interment will be in parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

John Hanlon

John S. Hanlon, 61, of Mallery Place, Wilkes-Barre, died Friday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Eugene F. and Anna Lowery Hanlon, was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, Wilkes-Barre, and the University of Maryland, receiving his master's degree in mathematics from Marywood College, Scranton.

Mr. Hanlon was employed as a teacher for 10 years by Baltimore County, Md. schools. Before retiring, he was employed as a teacher by Wilkes-Barre Area School District.

He was a member of St. Therese's Church, Wilkes-Barre.

A brother, Eugene J., preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Iva Hughes; children, Julie Heffers, Wilkes-Barre; Ann Adams, Baltimore, Md.; John M., New York, N.Y.; Erin C., at home; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9 from McLaughlin Funeral Service, 142 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with Funeral Mass at 9:30 in St. Therese's Church. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Hanover Township. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Memorial donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation of Northeastern Pennsylvania, 480 Scott St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Sister Dolora Marie Kalnoskas

Sister Dolora Marie Kalnoskas, CJC, 96, a member of the Poor sisters of Jesus Crucified and the Sorrowful mother, died Thursday at St. Joseph Manor, Brockton, Mass.
She was born Aldona Kalinauskas/Kalnoskas, in Plymouth, daughter of the late Vincent and Agatha Kamantis Kalinauskas, and attended Plymouth schools. Prior to joining the religious life, she was employed as a department head by The Boston Store, Wilkes-Barre.

Sister Dolora, previously Dolorosa Marie, entered her order at St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst. She served as community member at St. Francis parish, Miners Mills; Annunciation parish, Frackville; St. Casimir's, Plymouth; Holy Trinity, Wilkes-Barre; St. Michael's, Scranton; St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home, Elmhurst. In Massachusetts, she served in congregational schools in Cambridge, Lawrence, Worcester, Brockton and South Boston.

She was a graduate of College Misericordia, earning a bachelor of arts degree with a major in English and a minor in music. She became certified as a teacher in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. At age 90, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in music from College Misericordia.

She last moved from Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, Brockton, Mass., to St. Joseph Manor, Brockton, in December, 1995.

A brother, Albert, and sisters, Pauline Kalen and Anna Kalnoskas, preceded her in death.

Surviving are brother, Lawrence (Bud) Kalnoskas, Pittston; sister, Leona Rowlands, Hanover Township; nieces and nephews.

A concelebrated Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, April 15, at 10:30 in St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home Chapel, Elmhurst. Interment will be in St. Mary's Villa cemetery, Elmhurst. Friends may call Monday, April 14, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at St. Mary's Villa Convent, Elmhurst.

Memorial contributions may be made to Poor sisters of Jesus Crucified at St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst, or Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, Brockton, Mass.

Arrangements are by Joseph C. Noreika Funeral Home, 1740 N. Main Ave., Scranton.

Daniel J. Dempsey

U.S. Flag Daniel J. Dempsey, 72, of 431 Schuyler Ave., Kingston, died Friday in Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
He was born May 17, 1924, in Larksville, son of the late Daniel D. and Margaret Barry Dempsey, and was a graduate of Larksville High School.

A life resident of the West Side, Mr. Dempsey was an Army veteran of World War II. He was employed as a machinist by Kanaar Corporation and by Muskin Manufacturing.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and United Furniture Workers Union.

A son, Daniel P., and brother, Emmett, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Anne Gordon; son, Kevin J., Archbald; daughter, Carol Evans, at home; two granddaughters; twin sister, Margaret Grant, Larksville.

Private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be in parish cemetery, Pringle. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Community Care, 385 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, PA 18704. Arrangements are by Maher-Collins Funeral Home, 360 N. Maple Ave., Kingston.

John J. Grady Sr.

U.S. Flag John J. Grady Sr., 78, of Mooretown Road, Sweet Valley, died Friday at Lakeside Nursing Center, Harveys Lake, where she had been a guest.
He was born July 3, 1918, in Luzerne, son of the late James and Anna Corrigan Grady.

A resident of Swoyersville and Noxen prior to moving to Sweet Valley four years ago, Mr. Grady was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was employed by Duplan Silk Mill, Kingston, for 10 years, and by Kanaar Corporation for five years, retiring 30 years ago.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake; Swoyersville American Legion Post 644; former member of Noxen Volunteer Fire and Ambulance.

Mr. Grady and his wife, the former Shirley Hooper, celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on April 22, 1996.

A daughter, Elaine, and sister, Anna Dutch, preceded him in death.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, John J. Jr., with whom he resided; James C., Plymouth; Gerald P., Sweet Valley; daughter, Shirley Crawford, Sweet Valley; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, James, Binghamton, N.Y.

Funeral will be held Monday at 10 from Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment will be in Wardan cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 5.

Anna Sudu

Anna Sudu, 91, of White Haven, died Friday in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Andrew and Catherine Shiner Yackiel.

A White Haven resident most of her life, Mrs. Sudu was a member of St. Patrick's Church, White Haven, and Women of St. Patrick's; the 60 Plus Club; White Haven Area Senior Citizens.

Her husband of 64 years, Joseph, died in 1989. brothers, Jack and Stanley; sisters, Nellie Kwicinski and Helen Simoncavage, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are  daughters, Louise Perch, White Haven; Dorothy Huber, Jim Thorpe; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 from Joseph E. Lehman Funeral Home, Inc., 403 Berwick St., White Haven, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Patrick's Church. Rev. Salvatore A. Bentivegna, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

John Sedor

U.S. Flag John (Jack) Sedor, 66, of Englewood Avenue, Forty Fort, died Thursday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Dupont, son of the late John and Anna Kosik Sedor.

Mr. Sedor was an Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as an Airman First Class, earning various service medals. A resident of Englewood since 1963, he was employed as manager of Turkey Hill Minit Mart, Plymouth, before retiring. He was previously employed by State Products, Exeter, and Garwood Industries, Exeter.

He was a member of Holy Name/St. Mary's Church, Swoyersville; Veterans of Foreign Wars Anthracite Post 283, Kingston; First Catholic Slovak Union.

Brother, Edward; stepbrothers, Steven and Joseph Stetina, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Evelyn Zegarsky; sons, Dr. David, Wyoming; John P., Larksville; four grandchildren; sister, Helen Mayzle, Point Pleasant, N.J.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9 from Hugh B. Hughes & Son, Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with Funeral Mass at 9:30 in St. John the Baptist Church, Pittston. Interment will be in parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Paul Rusinko

U.S. Flag Paul Rusinko, 71, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., died Thursday at Roswell Cancer Institute, Buffalo, N.Y.
He was born in Nanticoke, son of the late Frank and Eva Rudowski Rusinko, and was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Alden.

Mr. Rusinko moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y., in 1951 and was a member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, Niagara Falls. He was employed by Bell Aircraft, New York, for nine years. Before retiring in 1986, he was employed in construction on the Niagara Power Project, staying on with the power authority as a control room operator for 25 years.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving at the Naval Repair Base, Nola, and on various ships.

Mr. Rusinko was a former member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12.

A son, John; stepmother, the former Anna Kostek, and brother, Michael, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Kosko; son, Mark, Newark, Del.; daughter, Susan Copely, Astoria, Ore.; one granddaughter; brother, Dr. Frank, State College; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9 from Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church, Alden. The Very Rev. Vladimir Petorak will officiate. Interment will be in Fern Knoll cemetery, Dallas. Friends may call Sunday 6 to 9.

Memorial donations may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Leukemia Department, Buffalo, N.Y.

Elizabeth Chepega

Elizabeth Chepega, 86, Trenton, N.J., died Wednesday in Mercy Medical Center, Trenton.
She was born in Swoyersville, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Kupstas Barney.

Her husband, John, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her son, Joseph, Ewing, N.J.; daughter, Eleanor Toporek, Robbinsville, N.J.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers, George, San Diego, Calif.; Albert, College Park, Md.; Edward, Middleburg, N.J.; sisters, Helen Brezak, Ewing; Veronica Gaydosh, Lynchburg, Va.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 from Winowicz Funeral Chapel, Trenton, with funeral liturgy at 10 in Incarnation Church, Pennington, N.J., the Rev. Monsignor Hugh Ronan officiating. Interment will be in National Shrine, Our Lady of Czestochowa cemetery, Doylestown.

Mary Lou Schilling

Mary Lou Foster Schilling, Croydon, died Wednesday in Lower Bucks County Hospital.
She was employed as a free-lance writer and as head correspondent by the John Wanamaker Company.

Surviving are husband, Otto; sons, Jack, Wilkes-Barre; Bill, Ambler; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 16, in Wilkerson United Methodist Church, Croydon. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park, Bansalem.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Natalie Stoshick

Natalie (Nettie) Stoshick, formerly of Walnut Street, Luzerne, died Thursday in Manor Care Nursing Home, Kingston.
She was born in Luzerne, daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Urbanovitch Chernetsky, and attended Luzerne schools.

Mrs. Stoshick was a member of St. Ann's Church, Luzerne, and its Altar and Rosary Society. Before retiring in October, 1979, she was employed by Nesbitt Memorial Hospital as a nurses aid.

Her husband, Joseph, died March 28, 1990. Brother, Edward, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are sons, Joseph, Dupont; Bernard, Kingston; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Anthony, Davenport, Iowa; sister, Anna Laktasic, Kingston; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 9:30 from Joseph C. Betz Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St., Luzerne, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Ann's Church, the Rev. Robert Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Lehman. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann's Church, Kingston.
