Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

J. Donald Munson

J. Donald Munson, 86, of 20 Vine St., Edwardsville, and Phoenix, Ariz., died Thursday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1911, in West Pittston, son of the late Edward and Katherine Bedell Munson, and was a 1921 graduate of Coughlin High School.

Mr. Munson received his engineering degree from Penn State University Extension School.

For more than 40 years, he and his wife, Marion E., who died Feb. 11, 1994, founded and co-owned Kingston Electric Company and Climate Equipment Company, Edwardsville.

He was previously affiliated in the coal mining industry with Surveyors Engineer Corporation; Popky and Company; and in the refrigeration industry with C. Foster Hicks Company. Mr. Munson was also an engineer and partner with Ellsworth Swank in the refrigeration and air conditioning field.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre, and Central United Methodist Church, Phoenix, Ariz. He was a life member of Masonic Lodge 61 F&AM, Wilkes-Barre; Keystone Consistory, Scranton; Irem Temple, Wilkes-Barre; former member of Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis Club.

Sister, Emma M. Hoover, and brother, Robert, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by brothers, Russell M., Chester, Conn.; Edward B., Milltown, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 420 Wyoming Ave., Kingston. Private interment will be in Oak Lawn cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Monday, 1 p.m. until time of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice.

Catherine R. Budzyn

Catherine R. Budzyn, 14 Solomon St., Ashley, died Friday at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.
Funeral arrangements are pending from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.

Eugene M. Musial

U.S. Flag Eugene M. Musial, 54, of Berwick died Friday in Berwick Hospital.
He was born Sept. 13, 1944, in Nanticoke, son of the late Sophia Featherman.

Mr. Musial served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was employed by Columbia Industries, Berwick.

Brother, Dennis Vitz, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Barbara Dzoch; stepfather, Jay Featherman, Shickshinny;  daughters, Amanda, at home; Kim and Keisha, and son, Ty, Sacramento, Calif.; one grandchild; sister, Gloria Kuester, Honesdale; brother, Joseph Vitz, Drums.

Funeral will be held Monday at 11 from Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek, with the Rev. Daniel Potter, Bible Baptist Church, Shickshinny, officiating. Interment will be in Sorber cemetery, Reyburn. Friends may call Sunday, 7 to 9.

Edward P. Winckoski

U.S. Flag Edward P. Winckoski, Italy Street, Mocanaqua, died Friday in Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, Kingston.
He was born Sept. 9, 1940, in Mocanaqua, son of the late Bolick and Josephine Lapinski Winckoski, and was a 1959 graduate of Newport Township High School.

Mr. Winckoski served in the Army Reserves, 300th Field Hospital, Wilkes-Barre, from 1962 to 1968. He was formerly employed by Luzerne Shickshinny Outerwear, and was recently employed by Luzerne County Road and Bridge Maintenance as an equipment operator.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, and its Holy Name Society; Isaak Walton Club and Sporting Club, Fairmont Springs.

Sister, Loretta Bauman, died in March 1990; brother, Frank, June 1940.

Surviving are daughter, Mrs. Roland (Charlotte) Kemper, Berwick; sister, Mary Brutski, Fairmont Springs; brothers, John, Hunlock Creek; Carl, Mountaintop; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Monday at 11 from Robert Zofcin Funeral Home, 38 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 in St. Mary's Church. Interment will be in parish cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Arrangements are by George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, Ashley and Glen Lyon.

Edna Affeldt

Edna Affeldt, McHale Street, Swoyersville, died Friday in St. Joseph's Hospital, Towson, Md.
Funeral arrangements are pending from Joseph L. Wroblewski Funeral Home, 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.

Leonard Ostroskie

Leonard J. Ostroskie, New Milford, N.J., formerly of West Wyoming, died Saturday in New Milford.
He was son of the late Stanley and Josephine Karkutski Ostroskie and was a member of Ascension Church, New Milford.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred;  daughters, Judy Freemantle and Joan Ostroskie, both of New Milford; two grandchildren; brother, Thomas, West Wyoming; sister, Midge Psculkowski, Conshohocken.

Funeral will be held Wednesday in New Milford. Entombment will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in Mount Olivet cemetery Mausoleum, Carverton. Arrangements are by Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Julius Landau

Julius Landau operated Landau's Inc.
Julius (Jules) Landau, 80, of 510 Tioga Ave., Kingston, died Sunday while walking near his home.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Hyman and Mollie Michlosky Landau, and graduated from Meyers High School in 1935 and attended University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.

Mr. Landau was self-employed as operator of Landau's Inc., serving as president, 1958-81, and previously operated furniture stores in Wilkes-Barre and Hazleton. He also served as director of First Federal Savings and Loan for 11 years; Franklin First Savings Bank for 15 years; president, the former Wyoming Valley Credit Union.

Mr. Landau was an oboe player of the former Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Symphony Orchestra; life member, Temple Israel, and member of its board and cemetery Committee; member, Jewish Community Center; former member, Westmoreland Club.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jane Smith; sons, Dr. Leo. W., Kingston; Jay E., Waverly; stepsons, Ned Smith, Amherst, N.Y.; Kevin Smith, Pittston; stepdaughter, Debra Gildea, Forty Fort; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Rose Engel, Long Island, N.Y.; Ceil Harrison, Alexandria, Va.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 from Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Temple Israel cemetery, Swoyersville, with Ahron Abraham, cantor, officiating. Shiva will be observed at the home of his son, Dr. Leo, 555 Charles Ave., Kingston, Tuesday, 7 to 9; Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor's choice.

Thomas A. Hansbury

Thomas A. Hansbury, 69, of South Welles Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday in Inpatient Unit of Hospice Care of VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.
He was born Sept. 22, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Thomas and Margaret O'Brien Hansbury, and graduated from Coughlin High School.

Before retiring, he was employed by Times Leader for 45 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church of Immaculate Conception, Wilkes-Barre, serving as lecturer.

brothers, John and Charles, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Glasson Belles; stepsons, Paul and Elwood Belles, both of Bethlehem; Lawrence Belles, New Bern, N.C.; stepdaughters, Sharon Albert and Terry Smith, both of Hollywood, Fla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces.

Funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, Park Avenue and South Street, Wilkes-Barre, with Funeral Mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Church of Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Tuesday, 7 to 9.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of VNA, 80 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Walter E. Schooley

Walter Edwin Schooley, 93, of Weavertown Road, Larksville, died Saturday at home.
He was born March 26, 1904, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Burton and Bessie Kinn Schooley, and graduated from Kingston High School.

Before retiring, he was employed as a mechanic by Lehigh Valley Coal Company at Dorrance Colliery, Wilkes-Barre.

He was a member of Christian Science Society, Forty Fort.

His wife, the former Grace Williams, died in 1976;  daughters, Charlotte Smith and Catherine Rider; brothers, Curtis and Howard, also preceded him in death.

Surviving are daughter, Grace Griffin, with whom he resided; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; great-great-grandson; sisters, Bessie Finney, Harding; Helen Elston, Hunlock Creek; brothers, Roland, Kingston; Horace, Phillipsburg, N.J.

Private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Arrangements are by Edwards and Russin Funeral Home, 717 Main St., Edwardsville.

Franklin Pavlick

U.S. FlagFranklin Pavlick, Alameda, Calif., died Saturday in Alameda Hospital.
He was born Jan. 30, 1934, and resided in Syracuse, N.Y., and Pleasanton, Calif., before moving to Alameda six months ago.

Mr. Pavlick was an Army veteran, having served from 1952-54 and in reserves until 1960.

He was employed as a salesman by CIM Bakery Equipment for 17 years.

Mr. Pavlick was a Fourth-degree member, Knights of Columbus, and Grand Knight, Holy Spirit Assembly, Dublin, Calif.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Theresa Maria; sons, Stephen, Boise, Idaho; Michael, San Francisco, Calif.; Frank, Baton Rouge, La.;  daughters, Karen Michel, Alameda; Christine, Los Angeles, Calif.; brother, Stephen, San Francisco; sisters, Alice Summa, Dallas; Roseann Radzinski, Kingston; Carol Llwellyn, Harveys Lake.

Funeral will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. from St. Raymond's Catholic Church, Dublin. Interment will be conducted Wednesday at 10 in Mountain View cemetery, Oakland, Calif. Friends may call Tuesday at church, 4 until time of service. Memorial service will be held Sunday at 9 a.m. in College Misericordia Chapel, Dallas. Arrangements are by Graham-Hitch Mortuary, Pleasanton.

Calvin Rutkowski

Calvin Rutkowski, 27, of 125 Austin Ave., Parsons, Wilkes-Barre, died Monday.
He was born Feb. 27, 1970, in Wilkes-Barre, son of Ignatius and Rita Yale Rutkowski, Parsons, and was a life resident of Wyoming Valley area, having attended Plains Township schools.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are son, Joshua A.; grandmother, June Howells Yale, Parsons; brothers, Ignatius, Wilkes-Barre; Robert, Pittston; nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. David McFarland, pastor, Parsons Welsh Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.
