Lilian V.K. Fullerton

CARROLL VALLEY, Pa. - Lilian V. Klein Fullerton, 79, of 3 Echo Trail, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Polyclinic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa.

Born May 3, 1918, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Virginia Burns Klein.

Her husband, John R. Fullerton, died in 1994. They were married July 1, 1967.

She graduated from Western High School in Baltimore, and then studied cosmetology in Baltimore.

She was a beautician in Baltimore for more than 30 years, retiring in 1979.

She was a member of Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church in Gettysburg.

She also was a member of Carroll Valley Civic Association, BPO Elks Lodge 731 Ladies Auxiliary in Waynesboro, and national AARP.

She is survived by one son, Dennis R. Hoffman of Westminster, Md.; one sister, Ruth Klein of Baltimore; one brother, Harry Klein of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert E. Hoffman.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at noon at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Dale E. Williams will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery.

There will be no viewing; however the family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church Youth Fund, 1865 Knoxlyn Road, Gettysburg, Pa. 17325.

Viola K. Wertime

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Viola "Vee" Keefer Wertime, 77, of 222 Fifth Avenue, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, Pa.

Born Aug. 9, 1920, in St. Thomas Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Warren Hoover and Fern Detrich Keefer.

She was a 1937 graduate of St. Thomas High School; and a 1938 graduate of Chambersburg Business College. She also attended Penn State University.

She was a member of Falling Spring Presbyterian Church.

She was a reporter for the Public Opinion; and crime census taker for the federal government. She also was clerk and bookkeeper for the former Rines Pharmacy.

She was an active member of Franklin County Rock and Mineral Club and was newsletter editor for many years. She was a member of AARP Falling Spring Chapter 2840. She was a current member and past president of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 Auxiliary, St. Thomas.

She was a long-time volunteer for Meals on Wheels; a member of Franklin County Heritage; and Franklin County Republican Club.

Her love of roller coasters earned her an invitation to participate in a marathon at Kings Dominion's "Rebel Yell" coaster to promote the opening of the Universal film "Roller Coaster" and a meeting with George Segal who was the star of the film. She also was a member of the national organization known as "American Coaster Enthusiasts."

She is survived by her husband, Joseph R. Wertime, whom she married July 23, 1940; two  daughters, Lynne A. Wertime and Kathryn W. Dress, both of Unionville, Pa.; two sons, Joseph R. Wertime Jr. of Chambersburg, Pa. and Thomas T. Wertime of Traverse City, Mich.; one sister, Louise K. Strite of Chambersburg; one brother, Warren H. Keefer Jr. of Rocky Ridge, Md.; one grandson; and one granddaughter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary of Falling Spring Church. The Rev. Ray L. Kauffman and the Rev. Jeffrey L. Roth will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201; or to a charity of one's choice.

Cleophas F. Piatt

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Cleophas F. "Cleo" Piatt, 82, of 14677 Buena Vista Road, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Oct. 15, 1915, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., he was the son of the late Eugene and Sarah Erb Piatt.

He was a 1933 graduate of Kingston High School, Kingston, Pa.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He was employed in the engineering department at C&P Telephone Co. for 31 years, starting in Washington, D.C., and completing his employment in Prince George's County. He retired in 1976.

He was a member and served as an elder of Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, Blue Ridge Summit.

He was a life member of Alexander Graham Bell Telephone Pioneers of America Chapter 15; and was a member of National AARP. He also was active in scouting and served as a scout leader.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Josephine H. Duke Piatt, whom he married May 30, 1942; one daughter, Elaine Meyers of Phoenix, Ariz.; one son, Carl D. Piatt of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sisters, Rebecca Grey of Harveys Lake, Pa., and Ellen Vetenko of York, Pa.; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Piatt and Joseph Piatt.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, 14753 Charmain Road, Blue Ridge Summit. The Rev. Robert S. Edmundson will officiate. Burial will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hawley Memorial Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 582, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. 17214.

Earl L. Stickel

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Earl L. Stickel, 70, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 14121 Grant Shook Road, Greencastle, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Nov. 29, 1927, in Antrim Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry W. and Bessie C. Mummert Stickel.

He attended Sunrise School.

He was a life long self-employed plasterer and worked in the Greencastle and Washington County area.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He is survived by one sister, Rhoda C. Stickel of Greencastle; and two brothers, Harry W. Stickel Jr. of Greencastle and Ross F. Stickel of State Line, Pa.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Montgomery Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery near Upton, Pa.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, Franklin County Chapter, c/o Joan Goetz, 219 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or National Kidney Foundation, 1216 Greensprings Drive, York, Pa. 17315.

Ada M. Christophel

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ada M. Christophel, 92, of 12897 Williamsport Pike, and formerly of Shady Grove, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born Sept. 23, 1905, in Columbiana, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Noah and Rebecca Burkholder Christophel. She lived her early life in Ohio.

She was first employed by Hagerstown Knitting Mill as a machine operator. She then worked at Waynesboro Hospital for many years in the housekeeping department.

She was a member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church, near Greencastle. She attended Macedonia United Brethren Church, Greencastle.

She is survived by nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Macedonia United Brethren Church, 11887 Worleytown Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble will officiate. Burial will be in Chambersburg Mennonite Church Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Richard C. Twiddy

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Richard C. Twiddy, 72, who died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, was of Harrisonville, Pa.

Margaret E. Lewis

FREDERICK, Md. - Margaret E. Lewis, 78, of Frederick, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 29, 1919, in Smithsburg, she was the daughter of the late Chester C. and Bessie H. Draper Kuhn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Lewis, in 1983.

She was a member of Grossnickle Church of the Brethren, Myersville, Md.

She is survived by two  daughters, Jane Gallenstein of Largo, Fla. and Marlene Roberts of Frederick; one sister, Meda Oswald of Smithsburg; one brother, Basil Kuhn of Smithsburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Basil Lewis and Dickie Lewis.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Ricketts Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Myersville. The Rev. Ronald A. Beverlin will officiate. Burial will be in Grossnickle Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Myersville.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

M. Fan Adams

BURNT CABINS, Pa. - M. Fan Adams, 57, of Burnt Cabins, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Jan. 13, 1941, in Needmore, Pa., she was the daughter of Hazel Barnhart Sowers of Everett, Pa. and the late Clarence R. Sowers.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Burnt Cabins Independent Bible Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Gordon C. "Short" Adams Sr., whom she married Oct. 14, 1974; two stepchildren, Marguerite Scherer of Newcastle, Del., and Gordon C. Adams Jr. of Newark, Del.; five sisters, Alice College of Everett, Linda DeShong and Alma Ashley, both of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Barbara Sipes and Joyce Manetti, both of Warfordsburg, Pa.; and four brothers, Robert Sowers of Everett, Roger Sowers of Breezewood, Pa., Donald Sowers of McConnellsburg and Denny Sowers of Marion, Pa.; and seven stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa. Pastor Bob Benson will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

J. Ilene Rourke

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - J. Ilene Rourke, 58, of 964 Byers Ave., Chambersburg, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, at Polyclinic Medical Center, Harrisburg, Pa.

Born June 24, 1939, in Robertsdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John J. and Ila Queen Alloway Kreiger Jr.

She was a 1957 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She retired after 15 years from Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg. She had been employed by Scott's Tire Service, Chambersburg for 12 years; and most recently by Pro Shop at Penn National Golf Course, Fayetteville, Pa.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Chambersburg County Club; and Ladies Auxiliary Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion, St. Thomas, Pa.

She is survived by one sister, Linda D. Kump of Chambersburg; two brothers, Robert B. Kreiger of Bensalem, Pa. and Robert F. Kreiger of Chambersburg; four nieces; two nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Daniel F. Lawler S.J. will be celebrant. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The viewing will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. A Christian wake service will be conducted Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Valley Mental Health Center, 533 S. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
