Jane M. Kendall

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jane M. Gallion Kendall, 82, a resident of Franklin County Nursing Home, and formerly of 231 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, Pa., and 14036 Ritchie Road, Cascade, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Aug. 10, 1915, in Hagerstown, MD, she was the daughter of the late David F. and Della B. Marr Callion Sr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood G. Kendall, in 1922. They were married May 30, 1940.

She attended a one-room school house in Broadfording.

Earlier she worked at the food counter at McCrory's Department Store, Waynesboro, and at Camp Louise, Cascade. Later, she worked as a clerk for Trostles' Grocery Store, Cascade; and as an apple corer for Knouse Foods, Ortanna, Pa. She then was employed at Bock's Laundry, Waynesboro. She last worked in the Cascade Elementary School cafeteria and at Waynesboro Knitting Mill, as an inspector.

She was a member of Germantown Bethel Church of God, Cascade, Golden Gleaners Sunday School Class, and Women's Ministries. She also taught and played piano for Sunday school, and was the church organist.

She is survived by four  daughters, Martha J. "Jeanie" Huff and Kathryn I. Starliper, both of Waynesboro, Patsy A. Foreman of Greencastle, Pa., and Judith R. Arndt of Hanover, Pa.; three sisters, E. Irene Bartles of Hagerstown, V. Louise Thompson of Leitersburg and Mary R. McLaughlin of Williamsport; one brother, David F. Gallion Jr. of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty M. Gross; and one brother, Marshall W. Gallion.

Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Germantown Bethel Church of God, Cascade. Pastor Paul Tobias and Pastor Sterling C. Keeney will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Church Cemetery, Cascade.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Social Services, 2735 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

J. Richard Shockey

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - J. Richard "Rich" Shockey, 69, of 11 Mount Vernon Terrace, and formerly of Smithsburg and 135 S. Price Ave., Waynesboro, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Dec. 19, 1928, in Ringgold, he was the son of the late Lloyd and Virgie E. West Shockey.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys Brown Shockey, in 1987. They were married in 1953.

He was a 1948 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

He was employed at Shockey brothers Family Farm, Ringgold. He later worked for Frick Co., Waynesboro. From the early 1960s until retiring in 1991, he was employed by West Penn Power Co., Waynesboro.

He was a member of Welty Church of the Brethren, Greensburg, Md., and Willing Mack Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife, Doris McCleary Miller Shockey, whom he married Nov. 19, 1988; three stepsons, Jeffrey Miller of Ellenwood, Ga., Douglas Miller of Loxahatchee, Fla., and Brian Miller of Greencastle, Pa.; five stepgrandchildren; one brother, Franklin R. Shockey of Smithsburg; and one niece.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Dean Mouk will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Welty Church of the Brethren, 13465 Greensburg Road, Smithsburg, Md. 21783; or to Lutheran Social Services, 2735 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Anna W. Miller

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Anna Willete McFerren Miller, 85, of 8845 Anthony Highway, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at her home.

Born April 15, 1912, in Mont Alto, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George S. McFerren and Mary A. Phillips Neiss.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harper M. Miller, in 1964.

She was a 1930 graduate of Quincy High School. She graduated from Central Penn Business College, Harrisburg, Pa.

She was employed as an office clerk at Waynesboro Shoe Co. from 1934 to 1960. From 1960 until retiring in 1977, she was employed as a teller at First National Bank, Waynesboro.

She was a member of Mount Vernon Chapter 398, Order of the Eastern Star, Waynesboro; and National AARP.

She is survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Quincy Cemetery, Quincy, Pa. The Rev. H. Clayton Moyer will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, Pa. 17268; or to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Evelyn A. Crouse

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Evelyn A. Crouse, 94, of 361 Philadelphia Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Menno-Haven.

Born June 17, 1903, in Willow Hill, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Matthew G. and Myrtle Rhodes Alexander.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lionel Bair, in 1951.

She was a 1921 graduate of Dry Run High School.

She had been employed by LEAD as a supply clerk.

She was a member of Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring.

She is survived by one daughter, Joanne Foltz, at home; one stepdaughter, Gloria Battles of Dana Point, Calif.; one sister, Fay Breckenridge of New Cumberland, Pa.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Newell S. Crouse, in 1973; one daughter; one son; two sisters; two brothers; and a half brother.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. William H. Harter and the Rev. Linda B. Harter will officiate. Burial will be in Path Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Arthritis Foundation, 2019 Chestnut St., Camp Hill, Pa. 17011.

Jeanetta I. Kauffman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Jeanetta Irene Kauffman, 81, of Franklin County Nursing Home, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born April 28, 1916, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Joe and Emma Misner Koons.

She was a member of Coldspring United Brethren Church, Fayetteville, Pa.; and VFW Post 1599 Auxiliary.

She was employed by Knouse Foods for 18 years. She also worked at the former Heinz Co.; Piney Mountain Home, as a cook; and Rite Aid, Fayetteville, as a cashier.

She is survived by her husband, Benjamin F. Kauffman of 170 Farm Lane, Chambersburg; four sons in the Fayetteville area; one sister, Sylvania Bergesser of Franklin County Nursing Home; two brothers, Harper Koons and William Koons, both of Slabtown Road, Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Faye L. Sprenkle

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Faye L. Carbaugh Sprenkle, 52, of 544 W. Eighth St., died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Feb. 10, 1945, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Helen L. Clever Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa., and the late Brady L. Carbaugh Sr.

She attended school in the Greencastle school district.

She was employed in her early life, at Stanley Co., Chambersburg; and then Waynes Sportsware, Waynesboro, as a press operator.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Robert R. Sprenkle Sr., whom she married May 29, 1963; one daughter, Renee L. Brumbaugh of Manchester, Pa.; two sons, Robert R. Sprenkle Jr. of St. Thomas, Pa. and Roger Lee Sprenkle of State Line, Pa.; one granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Patricia L. Mowen of Worleytown, Pa. and Carolyn Shatzer of Chambersburg; five brothers, Brady L. Carbaugh Jr., Dennis W. Carbaugh, both of Greencastle, Thomas Carbaugh of Floral Branch, Ga., Amos Carbaugh Sr. of Mercersburg, Pa., and Richard Carbaugh of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Curtis Bryant will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Olca R. Skinner

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Olca R. Skinner, 86, of 3998 Fort Loudon Road, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born March 26, 1911, in Claylick, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John D. and Mary Tosten Hawbaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester S. Skinner, in 1975.

She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm.

She was a member of Welsh Run Church of the Brethren, Welsh Run, Pa.

She is survived by two  daughters, Vonnie L. Pittman of Mercersburg and Phyllis J. Furman of Chambersburg; two sons, John L. Skinner of Chambersburg and James M. Skinner of Mercersburg; four sisters, Zelda Laye of Fairplay, Md., Catherine Millhouse of Chambersburg, Velenora Weller of Chambersburg and Vera Orris of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; one brother, Ned Hawbaker of Sylvania, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons; one grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Welsh Run Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Henry Hunsberger will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and Monday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Roland P. Miner

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Roland Pearre Miner, 91, of Waynesboro, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Oct. 13, 1906, near Ringgold, he was the son of the late David Calvin and Fannie Bell Bowers Miner.

In 1931, he worked for John Burger on his farm in Quincy, Pa. From 1934 to 1960, he was employed at Quincy Orphanage Dairy. Later, he worked at Mills Gas Station, Waynesboro; and then prior to retiring in 1970, he was employed in the stockroom at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro.

He was a member of Ringgold Church of Christ, Ringgold, where he was a member of Willing Workers Sunday School Class; and served as a deacon.

He was a member of Senior Citizens Center, Smithsburg; Smithsburg Chapter AARP; and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, of more than 68 years, Cecil C. Shifflett Miner; one daughter, Edith M. Nelson of Frederick, Md.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; and two brothers.

Services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Ringgold Church of Christ, Ringgold. Pastor Donald E. Conley will officiate. Burial will be in Ringgold Cemetery, Ringgold.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
