Kathryan I. Channel

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Kathryan Irene Channel, 89, of 47 N. Linden Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at her daughter's home in Winchester, Va.

Born Aug. 2, 1908, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Martha Frances Rowe Finfrock.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore J. Channel, in 1989. They were married April 12, 1941.

She was a 1926 graduate of Greencastle High School.

She was first employed as a secretary for Dr. William Guenon; then helped at Greencastle High School cafeteria.

She had worked as a baby-sitter and in the laundry department of Waynesboro Hospital.

She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Greencastle.

She volunteered with Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts.

She is survived by a daughter, Sally J. Miller of Winchester, Va.; a son, Franklin H. Channel of Los Angeles; two sisters, Viola Ervin of Greencastle and Elizabeth Swisher of Greencastle; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.

The Rev. Donald L. McBride will officiate.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ethelyn B. Bousum

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Ethelyn B. Bousum, 90, of 206 E. Burd St., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Jan. 2, 1908, in Aspers Station, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John M. and Lydia Anne Baldwin Bolan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Bousum.

She was a 1926 graduate of Rockwood High School; and a 1928 graduate of Shippensburg State Normal School.

An elementary school teacher for 29 years. She retired in 1970.

She was a member of First Church of God in Shippensburg.

She was a member of American Association of Retired Persons, Local Chapter 2525.

She is survived by one son, John H. "Jack" Durbin of Fayetteville; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First Church of God, Shippensburg.

The Rev. W. Stanley Darrah will officiate.

The viewing will be Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Church of God, 121 E. King St., Shippensburg, Pa. 17257.

Arrangements are by Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home, Shippensburg.

Charles W. Bittinger

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Charles W. "Farmer" Bittinger, 51, of 10702 Coral Ridge Road, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Aug. 1, 1946, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Mary F. Bittinger of Chambersburg and the late James R. Bittinger Sr.

He was a 1964 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was a supervisor at Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, Pa.

He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 842, Chambersburg.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one daughter, Candie L. McKee of Chambersburg; two sons, Jamie L. Bittinger and William R. Bittinger, both of Chambersburg; one brother, James R. Bittinger Jr. of Chambersburg; and six grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg.

The Rev. Robert D. Verno will officiate.

Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

A. Virginia Kline

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A. Virginia Kline, 80, of 9390 Antrim Church Road, and also of 17694 Southeast 106th Terrace, Summerfield, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born May 29, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late James L. and Rachel Zeller Stouffer.

She was a 1935 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Greencastle, Pa., Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, Fla., and Ruth's Circle in the Florida church.

She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Kline, whom she married Aug. 27, 1938; one daughter, Linda Golden of Greencastle; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Louise Stackhouse.

Memorial services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle.

The Rev. David Armstrong will officiate.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

There will be no viewing.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations may be made in her memory to the First United Methodist Church, 45 N. Washington St., Greencastle, Pa. 17225.

Evelyn L. Biggs

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Evelyn Linthicum Biggs, 86, of 120 N. Second St., formerly of Boonsboro and Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Oct. 27, 1911, in Rockville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Francis and Agnes Linthicum.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Albert Biggs, in 1987.

She was a homemaker.

She attended McConnellsburg Presbyterian Church.

She was a charter member of Fulton County Farm Women, a member of  daughters of the American Revolution and the American Angus Association.

She is survived by two nephews, Samuel Baillo of Highland, Mich., and David Baillo of Wixom, Mich.; and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances L. Baillo.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. J. Russell Butcher will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Joseph Statum Sr.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Joseph Statum Sr., 72, of 5894 White Church Road, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Aug. 9, 1925, in Albany, Ga., he was the son of the late Mace and Julia A. Wright Statum.

He was a contractor in Chambersburg, Pa., fruit orchards, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Greater Good News Church of God in Christ, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Pinkie L. Boone Statum; five  daughters, Geraldine Crawford of Hollywood, Fla., Yvonne D. Statum of West Palm Beach, Fla., Nadine Y. Statum of Chambersburg, Carolyn V. Statum of Shippensburg, and Glynn M. Statum of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, Ervin L. Statum of Chambersburg, and Joseph Statum Jr. of Shippensburg; one brother, Nehemiah Statum of Philadelphia; 27 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Minnie L. Cook.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Edgar I. Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery, Chambersburg.

A viewing will be held at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Mildred L. Biesecker

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mildred Leona Carmack Biesecker, 84, of 109 Cumberland Valley Ave., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at her home.

Born Aug. 22, 1913, in Chambersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Emma Poe Carmack.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur S. Biesecker, in 1971.

She attended school in Chambersburg.

She was a cook at Waynesboro Hospital for several years.

She was a volunteer leader of Brownie Scouts at Quincy Orphanage for several years. She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by four  daughters, Doris Heefner, Trudy D. Fessler, Linda L. Cole and F. Joan Stull, all of Waynesboro; six sons, Jack L. Biesecker of Chambersburg, and Arthur William "Bill" Biesecker, Robert L. Biesecker, H. Richard Biesecker, L. Gene Biesecker, Charles A. "Henry" Biesecker, all of Waynesboro; 23 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was the last of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Esther McCans, Gail Furry, Flo Finnigan and Dorothy Carmack.

Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Lynn D. Trutt and the Rev. John L. Rauch will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
