Pennsylvania Obituary and Marriage Records, 1947-2010

William C. Hollyday Jr.

LITITZ, Pa. - William C. Hollyday Jr., 81, of 1001 E. Oregon Road; and formerly of Watchung, N.J., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Landis Homes Retirement Community.

Born in Funkstown, he was the son of the late William C. and Lillian Baker Hollyday.

He earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Juanita College in 1939, a master's degree in 1942 and a doctorate in 1944 in organic chemistry from Rutgers University.

He was a research associate at Exxon Chemical Co., Linden, N.J., from 1943 until his retirement in 1981. During his career as an organic chemist, he was awarded 38 U.S. patents for chemical compounds.

He was a member of American Chemical Society; American Association for the Advancement of Science; and Sigma Xi.

He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, serving on the board of deacons.

While in New Jersey, he was active in Fanwood Presbyterian Church, serving on the session and as an elder and deacon. He also was treasurer of the Presbytery of Elizabeth, N.J., of the Presbyterian Church, USA.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Stahl Hollyday; one daughter, Margaret A. Hollyday of Paoli, Pa.; two sons, William J. Hollyday of Nazareth, Pa. and John D. Hollyday of Lincroft, N.J.; two brothers, Joseph S. Hollyday of North Andover, Mass. and Robert D. Hollyday of Waynesboro, Va.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James H. Hollyday and Thomas B. Hollyday.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, Pa. The Rev. Lawrence R. Chattiner, the Rev. Karl A. Kling and the Rev. Donald Good will officiate. Burial will be private.

There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Memorial donations may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1801 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, Pa. 17601; or Fanwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Fanwood, N.J. 07023,

Rose E. Carbaugh

QUINCY, Pa. - Rose E. Carbaugh, 86, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, and formerly of 4065 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle, Pa., died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at the home.

Born Jan. 16, 1912, in Fulton County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George G. and Irene Mellott Heinbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Carbaugh, in 1994.

She retired from the former Stanley Co., Chambersburg, Pa., in 1977 with 30 years of service.

She is survived by one son, Wayne C. Heinbaugh of Chambersburg; four sisters, Mary Gunder, Bertha Ott and Bessie Roher, all of Chambersburg, and Evelyn Strait of McConnellsburg, Pa.; one brother, Dayton "Hank" Heinbaugh of Mercersburg, Pa.; four grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Raymond R. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

A viewing will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Mary L. Ogden

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary L. Ogden, 92, a resident of Menno Haven, and formerly of Walton, N.Y., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Menno Haven.

Born July 21, 1905, in Hamden, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Myrtle Taylor Loos. She lived in Unadilla, N.Y., early in life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sheldon B. Ogden, in 1989.

She was a graduate of Unadilla High School. She was a 1930 graduate of Oneonta Normal School, known as Oneonta State College.

She taught for five years in district schools in Delaware County, N.Y. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Christian Missionary and Alliance Church, Walton. For many years, she had been active in the church and Sunday school of the United Presbyterian Church of DeLancey, N.Y.

She was a former member of Delaware Valley Hospital Board, Walton.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret Spencer of Chambersburg, one niece and three nephews.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Menno Haven, 2075 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg. Chaplain Vernon Isner and the Rev. Nelson Martin will officiate. Burial will be in April in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

There will be no viewing.

At her request, her body was cremated.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

Clarence R. Raudabaugh

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Clarence R. Raudabaugh, 70, of 3408 Social Island Circle, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Caledonia Manor, Guilford Township, Pa.

Born Nov. 28, 1927, in Shippensburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Lester and Elizabeth Dyarman Raudabaugh.

He was preceded in death by Gloria A. Snyder Raudabaugh, in 1983.

He was employed as a laborer for 30 years with Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, retiring in 1983.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a life member of Hume McNeal Byers AMVETS Post 224, Burt J. Asper American Legion Post 46 and Landis-McCleaf Detachment Marine Corps League, all of Chambersburg, and a member of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612, St. Thomas, Pa.

He is survived by his common law wife of 14 years, Alice E. Williams of Chambersburg; three  daughters, Debra Smith of Warfordsburg, Pa., Rita Younker of Hagerstown and Donna Barcus; four sisters, Carma Mull and Marlene Cook, both of Scotland, Pa., Lovetta Bingham of Orrstown, Pa., and Delores Shindledecker of Chambersburg; three brothers, Ross Raudabaugh of Chambersburg, Gerald Raudabaugh of Temple Hill, Md., and Delmar Raudabaugh of Florida; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Kenneth E. Winger will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Harold L. Neville Sr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harold Leslie Neville Sr., 64, of 250 E. McKinley St., died Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1933, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Earl E. and Irene Keyton Neville. He lived his early life in Hagerstown.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Marlene Duvall Neville, in 1984.

He was employed by Hagerstown Kitchens, Hagerstown Iron Works and last worked as a custodian for Chambersburg Area School District.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by one son, Harold L. Neville Jr. of Hagerstown; five sisters, Delores B. Reese, Mary L. Long, Shirley A. Zeger and Nancy L. Hillyard, all of Hagerstown, and Betty J. Wilson of Gettysburg, Pa.; three brothers, Clarence E. Neville of Greencastle, Pa., Charles P. Neville and Leroy Neville, both of Hagerstown; a close friend, Janet L. Bittner of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Deshong.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Macedonia United Brethren Church Cemetery, Worleytown Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. will officiate.

There will be a viewing at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Charles A. Wagner

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Charles A. Wagner, 74, of Brookens Road, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Dec. 23, 1923, in Tyrone, Pa., he was the son of the late Calvin and Celia Stayner Wagner.

He was retired from James River Corp., where he worked for 21 years.

He was a member of Cold Spring United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

He served on the board of directors of the Ameri-Can Federal Credit Union, Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline L. McNew Wagner, whom he married on Oct. 4, 1947; one son, Scott C. Wagner of Chambersburg; one sister, Alice Metz of Lancaster, Pa.; and one brother, Millard Wagner of Wilmington, Del.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester Kauffman will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Central Pennsylvania, 6041 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, Pa. 17112-1208.

Kenneth W. Boyer

HOLLIDAYSBURG, Pa. - Kenneth W. "Whiz" Boyer, 75, of Box 169, RR2, and formerly of Lewistown, Pa., died Friday, March 13, 1998, at his home.

Born June 27, 1922, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Willis J. and Elizabeth Wolfkill Boyer.

He was a 1940 graduate of Lewistown High School.

He retired as a supervisor in the signal department at Conrail in 1983.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 during World War II and from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He served as a second lieutenant National Guard battery commander from 1950 to 1953. He was promoted to captain in 1955 in the National Guard and to major in 1956 and lieutenant colonel in 1970 in the U.S. Army Reserve. He retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1982.

He was a member of Frankstown Park Missionary Church, Hollidaysburg, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. He was a trustee and deacon and served on the executive board of the Eastern District Missionary Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice D. Deavor Boyer, whom he married on Feb. 21, 1946; two  daughters, Anita Jo Arnold of Point Pleasant, Pa., and Kristine Keener of Dover, Pa.; two sons, Jeffrey K. Boyer of Reading, Pa., and the Rev. Jonathan K. Boyer of Bay City, Mich.; two sisters, Cleo Diffenderfer of Hagerstown and Joyce Frey of Chambersburg; one brother, Robert Boyer of Chambersburg, Pa.; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Rodgers; and one brother, Richard Boyer.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Frankstown Park Missionary Church, Hollidaysburg. Pastor James E. Smith will officiate. Burial with military honors will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Juniata Memorial Park Inc., Lewistown.

Friends will be received at Plank, Stitt and Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the memorial fund of Frankstown Park Missionary Church, Hollidaysburg, Pa. 16648; or Home Nursing Agency's Hospice, 201 Chestnut Ave., Altoona, Pa. 16603.

Helen P. Wagner

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Helen P. Wagner, 68, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 261 Brumbaugh Ave., Chambersburg, died Sunday, March 15, 1998, at ManorCare.

Born Oct. 4, 1929, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Paul Suders Sr. and Helen Monn Suders.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Julia M. Stepler of Chambersburg; one son, Roger L. Wagner of Chambersburg; three sisters, Betty Beck of Greencastle, Pa., Nancy Pefley of Chambersburg and Shirley Williams of Caledonia, Pa.; two brothers, Paul Suders Jr. of Fort McCord, Pa., and David Suders of Chambersburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Ken Wenger will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Valley Mental Health Center, 533 S. Main St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
