John B. Kindall

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John B. Kindall, 33, of 5159 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Friday, July 10, 1998, in Guilford Township, Pa.

Born July 1, 1965, in Chambersburg, he was the son of John W. and Julia A. Piper Kindall of Chambersburg.

He was a 1983 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He was employed in the maintenance department of Guilford Water Authority, Chambersburg.

He attended Salem Lutheran Church in Marion, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Becky A. Bower Kindall; two sons, John J. Kindall and Sean M. Kindall, both at home; one sister, Sherri L. Demars of Chambersburg; one niece and two nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Warren C. Heintzelman will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

There will be no public viewing. However, the family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Evelyn A. Rhodes

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Evelyn A. Rhodes, 81, of R.D. 1, Box 561, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg.

Born Jan. 1, 1917, in McConnellsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Violet Deshong Barnhart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert I. Rhodes.

She was a housewife.

She was a member of McConnellsburg Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by three sisters, Hazel Sowers of Everett, Pa., Eleanor Ritchey of Hancock and Mary Rohm of McConnellsburg; and four brothers, Robert Barnhart of McConnellsburg, Roy Barnhart and Isaac Barnhart, both of Wells Tannery, Pa., and Lloyd Barnhart of Greencastle, Pa.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sherry Rhodes.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Belvy White will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Thursday. The funeral home will be open Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Sara M. Hill

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Sara Marjorie Hill, 76, of Needmore, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born May 9, 1922, in Laidig, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ira Barton and Mary Anna Mumma Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick N. Hill, in 1984.

She retired from The Country Inn, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg, Pa. She attended Needmore Bible Church and Evangel Assembly of God, McConnellsburg.

She was active in Pleasant Grove Ladies Aid, Needmore Fire Co. Auxiliary and Warfordsburg Senior Center.

She is survived by five  daughters, Jean Henry and Nancy McBride, both of Winchester, Va., Ellie Merica of Needmore, Florence Billett of Mount Joy, Pa., and Althea Strait of Harrisonville, Pa.; one son, Nile E. Hill of Needmore; one sister, Jean Heskett of Winchester; one brother, Walter Lake of Chambersburg, Pa.; and 15 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Needmore Bible Church, Needmore. Pastor Denver Plessinger will officiate assisted by Pastor Doug Poffenberger. Burial will be Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg.

Visitation will be at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m., and at the church Thursday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideon Bibles International, Box 642, McConnellsburg, Pa. 17233.

Haven P. Kendall

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - Haven P. Kendall, 99, of Charmaine Road, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Franklin County Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born June 16, 1899, in Garfield, Md., she was the daughter of the late David O. and Clara Ellen Toms Lewis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Raymond Kendall.

She was a member of Mount Bethel United Methodist Church, Foxville, Md.

She is survived by a daughter, Lois A. Kuhn of Smithsburg; one grandson, Basil Kuhn; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine Duncan; one son, Donald Glenn Wolfe; five sisters; and three brothers.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Davis Funeral Home, 12525 Bradbury Ave., Smithsburg. Pastor Paul Heefner will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Bethel Cemetery, Foxville.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hazel V. Beam

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Hazel V. Beam, 88, of Shook Home, 55 S. 2nd St., and formerly of 67 North Ave., Chambersburg, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the home.

Born Nov. 1, 1909, in Scotland, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Cleverstone Coldsmith.

Her husband, Merle L. Beam, died in 1990.

She was a member of Open Door Church in Chambersburg, and the Jolly Sixties Club.

She is survived by three  daughters, Marilyn Moraites of Hagerstown, Rosalyn B. Coleman of Lancaster, Pa., and Carolyn Peck; one son, Ronald E. Beam of Chambersburg; two sisters, Ruth Spessard of Williamsport, and Vernoll Jones of Lititz, Pa.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg. Pastor Art Brown and Pastor Keith Skelton will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Jolly Sixties Organization, c/o Open Door Church, 600 Miller St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

John M. Lininger

HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - John Martin Lininger, 62, of Hustontown, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born July 4, 1936, in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Jacob and Margaret Leab Lininger.

He retired from Hess Manufacturing, Quincy, Pa.

He attended Mount Carmel Holiness Church, Hustontown.

A woodworker, he reproduced antique furniture and built gun cabinets.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Cutchall Lininger; two  daughters, Jody Koontz of Chambersburg and Debra Frisby of Anchorage, Alaska; three sons, Steve Gracey, Dennis Thomas and Douglas Thomas, all of Hustontown; two sisters, Francis Ficks of McConnellsburg, and Viola Mowers of Fayetteville, Pa.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown. The Rev. Belvy C. White and the Rev. Rusty Flanary will officiate. Burial will be in Clear Ridge Cemetery in Hustontown.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A. Pauline Stoner

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A. Pauline Stoner, 85, of 304 S. Church St., died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born Feb. 28, 1913, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph H. and Anna Mae Creager Stoner.

She was a 1931 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She received her bachelor of science degree from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., in 1935.

She worked at Landis Machine Co., Waynesboro, as a secretary and in the sales department. In 1958, she become the secretary to company president, G.M. Stickell. Following his death in 1962, she became secretary to the vice president, George P. Buckley, who became president in 1975. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, and was active with committees.

She volunteered at Gettysburg Lutheran Home.

She is survived by cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Thursday 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Joan L. Bailey

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Joan L. Bailey, 70, a resident of Piney Mountain Nursing Home, and formerly of 707 E. Main St., Waynesboro, Pa., died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 24, 1928, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Susan M. Parker Bailey.

She was a 1948 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

Prior to and following graduation from high school, she was employed by Waynesboro Hospital as an LPN; and prior to retiring she worked in the storeroom. She retired in 1990, after 45 years of service.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, and sang in the choir.

She enjoyed crafts.

She is survived by one sister, Nancy S. Seetoo of Dalran, N.J.; and three nephews.

Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Friday 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6 W. Second St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Hilda E. Crist

NEEDMORE, Pa. - Hilda Ethelyn Crist, 87, of Needmore, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Fulton County Medical Center, McConnellsburg, Pa.

Born July 6, 1911, in Mays Chapel near Warfordsburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Bundy Oliver and Rachel Catherine Golden Crist.

She was employed at Letterkenny Depot; and later worked as a nurses' aide at Chambersburg Hospital. Prior to retirement she was employed at Dagmar Hall, Hagerstown. She wrote stories and articles that ran in local publications.

She was a member of Needmore Bible Church.

She is survived by three sisters, Ruby F. Peck of Needmore, B. Maye Deneen of Warfordsburg and Vesta I. Myers of Hagerstown; one aunt; one uncle; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin W. Crist.

Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Needmore Bible Church. Pastor Douglas Poffenberger and Pastor Roger K. Myers, her nephew, will officiate. Burial will be in Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa.; and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
