Clifford Ogg, of Irwin
Clifford "Bud" Ogg, 72, of Irwin (Sewickley Township), died Monday, July 17, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Sewickley Township, a son of the late John and Essie (Ashley) Ogg. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Ogg "Bud" was employed by Westinghouse Air Brake as a millwright with 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during peacetime. Mr. Ogg "Bud" was a member of the Norwin Christian Church, North Huntingdon, and also Shidle Lodge #601, F&AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters , Doris Ogg and Thelma Peters. Mr. Ogg "Bud" is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jennie (Fiume) Ogg; two sons , Gary and his wife, Cheryl, of West Newton and Jay and his wife, Terri, of Jeannette; three daughters , Karen Weyandt and her husband, Charles, of New Alexandria, Janet Cody Breitinger and her husband, Jay, of Irwin, and Teri Guerrieri and her husband, Charles of Jeannette; four grandchildren, Jill Soltis, Charles Weyandt Jr., Gary Ogg Jr., and Jennifer Guerrieri; two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Haley Soltis; two brothers , James and Jesse Ogg, both of Rillton; two sisters , Vira May Leksell of Avonmore and Evelyn Reidmiller of Rillton; also a number of nieces and nephews. Friends received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Kaser officiating. Interment will follow in the Mars Hill Cemetery, Sewickley Township.
John Peanoske, Export
John Peanoske, 79, of Export, died Sunday, July 16, 2000. Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Washington County, a son of the late Adam and Pauline Zeyzus Pijanuski. John was a retired employee of Coco brothers and Dick Corp. He was a member of the D.A.V. of Turtle Creek, the L.O.O.M. #234, the American Legion Post #858, and the sons of Columbus, all of Export, and the S.N.P.J. in Jeannette. Mr. Peanoske was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps and was a recipient of two Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart, and was a P.O.W. for 22 months. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Peonoske; and two sisters , Sally Belak and Mary Trenski. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Stella Wadrose Peanoske; two sisters , Genevieve Kochanowski of Shaler Township and Lucy Bratkovich and husband, Martin, of Claridge; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from noon to 9 p.m. at the EDWIN N. James Philip Redding Jr., 50, of Crestwood, Ky., formerly of Greensburg, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Hospice Palliative Care Unit, Louisville, Ky. He was a former nuclear engineer and plant manager of American Air Filter, Louisville, Ky., and a Navy veteran of Vietnam. Survived by his wife, the former Dale Currence; a son, James C. Redding; daughters , Courtney Ann Redding and Crystal Ann Reeves; Father and stepmother, James P. and June Redding; mother and stepfather, Gene and Jaqueline Ulery Gower; sisters , Kimberly and William Eckenrode, Jaye and David Baird, Vanessa Delynko, Paula and David Greece, and Jill and John Giannone; stepbrothers and sisters , Valery Milliron, Kip Gower, Tim Gower, Eric Gower and Michael Gower; and four grandchildren, Joshua Redding, Maikayla Redding, Autum Reeves and Robbie Reeves. Mary (Phillips) Ritter, of Carnegie, died Monday, July 17, 2000. She was the wife of the late Harry (Bud) Ritter and the aunt of Carl L. Phillips of Mt. Lebanon, Dr. Joseph Phillips of Gloucester, Va., Mary Anne Sherwin of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Marilyn Radcliffe of Baldwin and many nieces and nephews. Mike "Mickey" Sawayda, of Daisytown (Walkertown), died at 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in Life Care, Pittsburgh. He was born in Donora, a son of the late Wasil and Mary Perun Sawayda. He was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Daisytown. He was a retired steelworker from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., Monessen, and was a retired miner from the Crescent #1 coal mine, Daisytown, and the Shannapin mine in Bobtown. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. and the United Steelworkers of America. He is survived by three children, Michael E. and his wife, Marlene Sawayda, of Harrison City, Patricia D. Sawayda at home and Gary Sawayda of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, Michael E. Sawayda and Rebecca Sawayda; three sisters , Catherine Hill of Daisytown, Stella Dunkalio of Charleroi and Mary Slogik of California, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Eleanor Micsky Sawayda, on June 6, 1989; five sisters , Julia Zelenik, Ann Cucura, Helen Markovich, Elizabeth Illar and Antonia Cover; and a brother, John Sawayda. Homer E. Wise, Greensburg
Homer E. Wise, 81, of Greensburg RD6, went home to be with our Lord and Savior Monday, July 17, 2000, at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born June 3, 1919, in Hempfield Township, he was a son of the late Grant and Blanche Rosensteel Wise. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a supervisor for PennDOT. He was a member of the Junior Order of Mechanics, Herminie Council #196. He was one of the initial organizers and a retired member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees AFL-CIO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers , Robert, Clarence and Howard Wise; and two sisters , Viola Byers and Marie Smith. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy V. (Herrod) Wise; a son, Roy R. Wise and his wife, Linda, of East Freedom RD1; a daughter, Nancy L. Wise of Greensburg RD6; six grandchildren, Wendy Weltz and her husband, Charles, Robert E. Wise and his wife, Susie, Susan Hinerman, Patricia A. Wise, Ricky A. Wise and his wife, Diana and Dotty L. Gruska and her husband, Gary; seven great-grandchildren, Dalinah Weltz, Bobby and Dustin Wise, Nicole, Amber and Jimmy Hinerman and Alicia Daer; and two great-great-grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Hinerman. Esther E. Hoover Witman, 77, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at home. She was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Enhaut, Pa., a daughter of the late Samuel E. and Sylvia Sheaffer Hoover. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Irwin. She was a former Bell Telephone operator in Harrisburg, and a former member of the Meadowrue Garden Club, and the Irwin Junior Women's Club. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a member of the Senior Citizens Mixed Couples Bowling League, Greensburg, and various local bridge clubs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Hoover; and a sister, Sylvia Selcher. She is survived by her husband of over 57 years, Robert J. Witman; a son, Thomas R. Witman and his wife, Karen, of North Irwin; three daughters , Susan K. Harris and her husband, Al, of Derry, Nancy Sheehy of Latrobe and Beth Miller and her husband, Howard, of Jeannette; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Harry H. Yates, 91, of Greensburg, formerly of Emlenton and Pittsburgh, died Monday, July 17, 2000, in the Greensburg Nursing and Convalescent Center. He was born Aug. 17, 1908, in Emlenton, the son of the late Edward and Hannah Heath Yates. He was a retired employee of West Penn Power and a graduate of Penn State University. He was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, the sons of the Revolution, and several religious, charitable, business and social organizations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Marie Collins Yates. Raymond "Snooky" Beggs, 61, of Crabtree, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 4, 1939, in Greensburg, the son of the late Isabelle Skodak Carlson. He was a retired custodian for the Greensburg Salem School District, and formerly was a chef for Carbone's Restaurant for several years. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, and a life member of the Crabtree V.F.D. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Ann Micklow Beggs; a sister, Harriett Carlson of California; a nephew and niece; and several cousins. Margaret Jarvis Bogatay, 73, of Nutley, N.J., formerly of White Valley, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at her home. She was born Dec. 11, 1926, in Norfolk, Va., a daughter of the late Henry C. and Margaret Pierce Jarvis. Margaret was last employed as a school teacher from 1973 until 1983 at Holy Family School in Nutley. She was a member of Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia Alumni Association, D.A.V. Post 8 Auxiliary of Greater Pittsburgh, the Nutley Family Service Bureau and was a former Girl Scout leader in Nutley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Frank J. Bogatay, in 1992. Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Redwood of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Frank J.
