Trula E. Plonka
(Formerly of Aliquippa)

Trula E. Plonka, 88, of Tampa, Fl, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 3, 2004 in the West Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Florida.

Born June 12, 1915 in Tazewell, TN, a daughter of the late James A. and Docia M. Venable, she was a member of the St. Titus Catholic Church, Aliquippa, where she was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mother’s and Senior Citizen’s Club. She was also a member of the Queens of Columbus.

She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Brackin, Tampa, FL; a brother, Paul Venable and wife Betty, New Tazewell, TN; two grandsons, Keith Brackin and wife Gian, Tampa, FL and Captain Kevin Brackin USAF, Colorado Springs, CO; two beautiful great-grandsons and great-granddaughter, Ryan Matthew Brackin, Devin Brackin, and Kendall Brackin; a sister-in-law, Mary Plonka, Aliquippa. She is also survived by her two best friends, Kay Zaremba and Josephine Fedorchak, both of Aliquippa, the loving family of Paula Winnie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Matt J. Plonka and two sisters, Georgia Grubb and Della McLain.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a service will be held on Wednesday at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in the St. Titus Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The Christian Mother’s will provide a rosary service on Tuesday at 3pm in the funeral home.

William F. “Bill” Hellmann

William F. “Bill” Hellmann, 83 of Center Twp., passed away peacefully Sunday, April 04, 2004 in the Providence Care Center, Beaver Falls.

Born April 25, 1920 in Donora, PA, a son of the late August F. and Edna Mae (Frese) Hellmann, he was a charter member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Center Twp. Bill was a retired clerk from the Aliquippa and Southern Railroad. He was a US Army Veteran who proudly served during WW II, serving in theTunisian, Sicilian, Napoles-Foggia and Rome-Arno campaigns, earning a Good Conduct Medal. He was also a member of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division. Bill’s pride and joy was his home, where he took great care of his beautiful garden. Bill was a loving and caring friend who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marion I. (Forrest) Hellmann, Center Twp.; two daughters, Frances Keller and husband Lawrence, Murrysville, PA and Sarah “Sally” Kier and husband Russell, Chippewa; five grandchildren, Timothy, Laurie and Thomas Keller, and Jesse and Molly Kier; a sister, Mary Jane Kaltury and husband Peter J.; two sisters-in-law, Florence Hellmann, Rochester and Velma Hellmann, Monaca. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and George Hellmann and a sister, Anna Mae Russell.

Friends will be received on Monday from 6-9pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11am with his Pastor, Cheryl Berner officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The Beaver Co. Special Unit will meet in the cemetery at 11:30am to provide military honors.

Herbert H. Meinert

Herbert H. Meinert, 74, of Hopewell Twp., passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2004 in the Villa St. Joseph Home, Baden.

Born June 28, 1929 in Sewickley, PA, a son of the late Leo and Elizabeth Meinert, he was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Hopewell Twp. Herbert was a retired industrial salesman who was also a US Army veteran who proudly served during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by a daughter, Joan Marcocci and husband Anthony, Greensburgh, PA; two sons, Karl Meinert and wife Lisa, Holmdel, NJ and Douglas Meinert and wife Marjorie, Hopewell Twp.; three grandchildren, Elisabeth, Erin and Emma Meinert; two brothers, Robert R. Meinert, Ambridge and David Meinert and wife Mary Barbara, Upper ST. Clair, PA. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (Dina) Meinert and two brothers, Leo and Richard Meinert.

Friends will be received on Friday and Saturday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a service will be held on Monday at 11:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12pm in the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The Beaver County Special Unit will meet in the cemetery at 12:45pm to provide military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Herbert’s name to the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church or School, 4001 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, PA 15001.

RONALD A. WILSON

Ronald A. Wilson, 64, of Burgettstown, passed away Friday April 9, 2004 in the Washington Hospital.

Born September 25, 1939 in Waynesburg, PA., he was a retired employee of the Beaver Valley Alloy Foundary, and he loved to fish.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Tustin; and two sisters, Catherine Jenkins, and Norma Jean Mortin.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Anna Wilson, Aliquippa; three sons, Donald Leon Gordon and his wife Vondia, Corbin, KY; and Jesse and Joseph Dillie, of West Virginia; a daughter, Katherine Hlozek and her husband Joseph Cujas, Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Richard, Jr., Aliquippa; Ronald Cujas, Fort Myers, FL, Charles Cujas, Fort Myers, FL, and Kylee RuthAnn Gordon, KY; two brothers, Larry Wilson and his wife Juanita, Aliquippa; and James Reed, Aliquippa; two sisters, Marilyn Andrews, Aliquippa, and Marlene Marsolo, Aliquippa.

Friends will be received on Monday from 4pm -8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa www.darrochfuneralhome.com where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11am.

Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Phyllis S. Sherba

Phyllis S. Sherba, 83, of Hopewell Twp., passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 14, 2004 surrounded by her loving family.

Born October 10, 1920 in Carnegie, PA, a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Ochalek, she was a member of the St. Titus Catholic Church, Aliquippa, where she was a member of the choir and the confraternity of Christian Mother’s. She was also a member of the Canasta Card Club, while being a homemaker her entire life.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Ozimok and husband Raymond, Hopewell and Charlotte Iacobucci and husband Alex, Davidson, NC; two grandsons, Richard Ozimok, Aliquippa and Eric Ozimok and wife Erin, Pittsburgh; four sisters, Josephine Schlahta, California, Estelle DiTollo and husband John, Hopewell, Henrietta Miller and husband Merle, Florida and Gail Yacopino and husband Michael, Aliquippa.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Steve Sherba; two brothers, Walter and Eddie Ochalek and two sisters, Elizabeth Kennedy and Anna Ochalek.

Phyllis was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a service will be held on Saturday at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in the St. Titus Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The Christian Mother’s will meet in the funeral home at 3pm on Friday to provide a rosary service.

Helen C. Lang

Helen C. Lang, 80, of Hopewell Twp., passed away Sunday November 9, 2003.

Born March 16, 1923 in Kecksburg, PA a daughter of the late Clark E. and Mabel L. (Crise) Eicher, she was a member of the Raccoon United Presbyterian Church.

She was a retired book keeper from Ruffner and Moore Insurance Agency, and a member of the Hopewell Business and Professional Women’s Club. She also was a volunteer at Aliquippa Community Hospital.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Ann Kuzma and her husband Daniel, Hopewell Twp.; four grandchildren, Daniel Kuzma; Timothy Kuzma and his wife Carol; Andrew Kuzma and his wife Suzanne; and David Kuzma and his wife Julie; eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Justin, Kaitlyn, Ginger, Dylan, Isaac, Madison, and Audra Kuzma; and a sister Lillian Shane, Seminole, Florida.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Clark E. Eicher, Jr. and a sister Lorraine Engle.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill Street, Aliquippa. A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 10:30am at the Raccoon United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kathryn Horstman officiating.

Interment will follow in Sylvania Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Amy C. Speicher

Amy C. Speicher, 86, of Hopewell Twp., passed away Monday, April 19, 2004 in the Aliquippa Community Hospital.

Born Nov. 1, 1917 in Huntington, PA, a daughter of the late Elwood and Emma Kurtz, she was a member of the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Hopewell Twp.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Speicher in 1993; a grandson, Jeffrey Grimm; three brothers, Bruce, Paul and James Kurtz and two sisters, Minnie Miller and Dorothy Stine.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Debbie Speicher, Shanandoah, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Raymond Mutkus, Hopewell Twp.; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Thelma Kurtz, Beaver Springs, PA and a sister, Lorma Hudson of Burnham, PA.

Amy was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services will be private and entrusted to the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa.

Memorial contributions may be made in Amy’s name to the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4001 Brodhead Rd., Aliquippa, PA 15001.

Jean H. Sabo

Jean H. Sabo, 73 of Center Twp., passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 7, 1930 in Rochester, PA, a daughter of the late Gail H. and Hazel Boyde, she was a descendant of the earliest settlers in Beaver County. Jean was a former employee of Passavant Homes in Rochester and more recently the Friendship Ridge Geriatric Center in Beaver where she provided excellent care and patient service. She was a light hearted soul who had an excellent sense of humor. Jean always found good in everyone she met, no matter what. She lived for her family, enjoying all of the times she spent playing with her grandchildren, as if she was one of them. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Cristen Bannon and husband Patrick, Mt. Lebanon and Cindy Borzyn and husband Ed, Hookstown; a son, Jon, Center Twp.; a sister, Sue Bruckman, Ligonier, PA; a son-in-law, Jeremy Krizan, Monaca; a daughter-in-law, Nicole, Monaca; a sister-in-law, Jean Henderson, Center Twp.; five grandchildren, Bryan and Kelly Borzyn, Kiley Krizan, Daniel Pressley and Caitlin Bannon and a beautiful great-grandson, Tyler Borzyn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John A. Sabo; a son, Michael Sabo and four brothers, Gail, Lewis, William and Jack Boyde.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am.

Interment will follow in the John Anderson Cemetery.

John Richard Barkovic, Jr.

John Richard Barkovic, Jr., 55 of Center Twp., passed away Thursday, April 22, 2004 in the Beaver Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Born Jan. 14, 1949 in Rochester, PA, a son of the late John, Sr. and Mary Barkovic, he was a member of the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, Aliquippa. John was a member of the plumbers and steam fitters Local Union 47 for 29 years. He was a sports fanatic who spent much of his time following the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins. John was a devoted husband and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Marie (DeMarco) Barkovic, Center Twp.; an uncle, Nick Odlivak, Chicago; an aunt, Eleanore Pantaleo and husband Vincent, W. Aliquippa; 13 cousins, Ken Odlivak, Natalie Odlivak, Nicki Wright, Nanette Grant, Susan Deitrick, Theresa Pantaleo, Anna Marie Fairman, Loraine Walker, Vincent, John and Anthony Pantaleo, Mike Barkovci and Gerry Rose.

Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a Panchida service will be held on Monday at 9:30am. A funeral service will follow at 10am in the St. George Byzantine Catholic Church.

Parastas (blessing service) will be held on Sunday at 7pm in the funeral home.

Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

The Beaver Co. Special Unit will meet in the cemetery at 11am to perform military honors.

Marjorie L. (Tharp) Oliphant

Marjorie L. Oliphant, 70, of Aliquippa, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004.

Born Nov. 5, 1933 in Windridge, PA, a daughter of the late William and Irene Tharp, she was a member of the Aliquippa Elks Lodge 1221. Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by a dear friend, Tony Ciucci, Hopewell Twp.; seven daughters, Joyce Oliphant, Beaver, PA, Cheryl Gandee, Aliquippa, Elizabeth Oliphant and Fiance Jerry, New Brighton, Brenda Myers and husband Harold, Aliquippa, Victoria Hurd and husband Daniel, Pensacola, FL, Charlene Sessie and husband Donald, Independence and Barbara Kay Johns, Greenville, PA; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Brittney and Christopher Oliphant, Michael Shingleton, Jr., Daniel and Christine Hurd, Donald III and Nichole Sessie and Ashley Rutledge; four beautiful great-grandchildren, Deeona, Donald IV, Robin and Alex Sessie; three brothers, Herbert Tharp, Sycamore, PA, Harry Tharp, Sycamore, PA and Jim Tharp, Jefferson, PA; three sisters, Margaret Johnston, Sycamore, PA, Erma Jean Tharp, Waynesburg and Madolyn Crooker, Maine. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Oliphant and a sister, LaVaughn Pettit.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8pm and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Monday at 10am with Rev. Michele Nagle officiating.

Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

The Aliquippa Elks Lodge 1221 will in provide a service at 7pm on Sunday in the funeral home.

Reginald J. Durbin

Reginald J. Durbin, 88, of Hopewell Twp., passed away Saturday, May 1, 2004 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 19, 1915 in Dunbar, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Margaret Durbin, he was a member of the New Bethlehem United Presbyterian Church, Hopewell Twp. He was a retired employee of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. where he worked in the Seamless Tube Department. He was an avid bowler at Baden Bowl and he also enjoyed attending senior citizens meetings in Crescent Twp.

He is survived by three sons, Regis Durbin, Hopewell, Ronald Durbin and wife Margaret, Hopewell and Eddie Durbin and wife Sandy, Hopewell; three daughters, Bonnie (Durbin) Finch and Walter Delon, Hopewell, Margaret “Peggy” Durbin and fiancé Bucky Betters, Hopewell and Evelyn Boyle and husband Charles, Mechanicsburgh; five grandchildren, Regis C. Durbin II and wife Diane, Chicago, Eddie Durbin, Jr., Hopewell, Kimberley Durbin and husband Julio Szymchuck, Cleveland, Mark Durbin and wife Zita, Cleveland and Debbie (Durbin) Cipolla, Hopewell; seven beautiful grandchildren, Reanna, Regis III, Caleb, Kyle, Yasmine, Sid and Mina; two sisters, Ina Nelson, Freedom and Shontz Dusenberry, Chester, WV.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Florence Durbin; a grandson, James J. Finch; two brothers, Jim and John Durbin and four sisters, Alice Gailbrath, Catherine Durbin, Loretta Snyder and Margaret Posten.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-9pm in the Darroch Memorial Chapel, 2640 Mill St., Aliquippa, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10am.

Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.
