Rocco Cianciotti
North Fort Meyers, Fla.,
formerly of CLaridge

Rocco Cianciotti, 77, of North Fort Myers, Fla., died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000. He was born April 30, 1923, in Claridge, a son of the late Rocco and Cesaria Pantalen Cianciotti. Rocco worked at the Hutchinson Mine before moving to Florida where he was a carpenter for the Sun Ray Terrazo Co. and later the Michigan Construction Co. He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Clusters and the Presidential Salutation for Bravery in Action. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Bryant; sons , Rocco Cianciotti of Manassas, Va., and Melvin Cianciotti and his wife, Teresa Sellers, of Verona, Wis.; a stepdaughter, Christine Bryant Biggs of North Fort Myers, Fla.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers , Victor, Andrew, Joseph, Anthony, Dominick, Angelo, and Frank; and two sisters , Angela Cianciotti and Mary DeMarchi.

Jack Elias Gazalie
Jeannette

Jack Elias Gazalie, 46, of Jeannette, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in Jeannette. He was born Jan. 7, 1954, in Greensburg, a son of Norma J. McGurk Simpson of Jeannette and the late Jack "Fonzie" Gazalie. He was a dispatcher at Westmoreland County 911, and was a member of the Adamsburg Volunteer Fire Co. and the Jeannette Auxiliary Police. He was a graduate of Hempfield High School. Surviving are a daughter, Jackie L. Gazalie of Jeannette; a brother, Daniel T. Gazalie and his wife, April, of Tidioute, Pa.; and a sister, Katherine J. Rukenbrod and her husband, Ron, of Irwin. Arrangements are to be announced by the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin.

Clarence R. Glozzer
Robinson

Clarence R. "Froggy" Glozzer, 54, after a lengthy illness, on Wednesday, August 2, 2000, of Robinson Township (Groveton). Beloved husband of Carole (McClester) Glozzer; Father of Patrick (Karen) Glozzer of BenSalem, Pa., Clarice Rose Glozzer of Greensburg, Carl R. Glozzer of Coraopolis, Clay (Krista) Stewart of Cranberry, Carrie Glozzer of Robinson Twp. (Groveton); also survived by grandchildren, Katelynn, Cameron, Sarah Beth and Evan. Clarence was one of Western Pennsylvania 's highest decorated Vietnam Veterans. He proudly served in the Marine Corps and received a citation from the Secretary of the Navy, the Navy Commendation Medal for Heroic Achievement while serving as a rifleman with the Co. D., 1st Battalion, 1st Marine Division, in connection with the operation against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. Family to receive friends 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 1225 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks (Family owned & operated since 1886), with funeral services following at the funeral home. Private interment at Arlington National Cemetery. Family requests no flowers.

Ralph C. Johnston

Ralph C. Johnston, on Thursday, August 3, 2000, of White hall. Beloved husband of Belva; treasured Father of Terry (Linda), James (Peggy), Janis (Brian) West; loving grandfather of Michelle, Joy (Bryan), Jamie, Rene, Laura, Sarah, Natalie and Sherrilyn; beloved great-grandfather of Tanner. Also survived by many nephews. Friends received at the JOHN F. SLATER FUNERAL HOME INC., 4201 Brownsville Road, Brentwood on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Melvin 'Bob' Reed Keller
Mt. Lebanon

Melvin "Bob" Reed Keller, 77, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2000, surrounded by family. He was the dearly beloved husband of Dora Massaro Keller; loving Father of Cynthia Keller Richey of Mt. Lebanon, Melissa L. Keller Appel of Apple Valley, Calif., Chaplain (Major) Eric Reed Keller of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and Kevin Lane Keller of Hanover, N.H.; loving grandfather of Keith and Brett Richey, Erika and Joshua Keller, Lee Appel, Carolyn and Allison Keller; and brother of Melva Rose Teegarden of San Diego, Calif. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1949 with a B.S. in aerospace engineering; received his M.S. in nuclear physics and engineering in 1953; and did graduate work in mathematics at Stanford University and in nuclear rocket propulsion at UCLA. He entered the Armed Forces in 1942, and served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. After joining the U.S. Air Force in 1950, he served as project engineer in the Propulsion Laboratory Rocket Unit; as chief of the Engineering Unit, Air Force Institute of Technology; professor in the AFIT Physics Department, professor of nuclear physics at the Air Force Academy; and director of the Energetics Research Lab at Aerospace Research Laboratories, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He received the Air Force R & D Outstanding Achievement Award in 1964 and holds the Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster. He retired from the Air Force in 1968 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and joined Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, serving in the nuclear division until he retired in 1979. Memorial service to be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 799 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Saturday, August 5, at 3 p.m. Interment with full military honors in his hometown, La Monte, Mo. will be on Monday, August 7. Memorials may be made to Air Force Village for Widows, 5100 John D. Ryan Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78245 or Southminster Presbyterian Church Radio Ministry Fund. Commander Eugene H. Kinelski
formerly of Manor

Commander Eugene H. Kinelski, USNR-retired, 81, formerly of Manor, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, after a long illness. Cmdr. Kinelski had a distinguished record of achievement in the military and in civilian life as well. Immediately following his 1942 graduation from Purdue University with a B.S. in metallurgical engineering, he entered active military duty as a U.S. Navy Ensign. Throughout World War II, he specialized in anti-submarine warfare, and was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Torpedo School and the Advanced Undersea Weapons School. In 1946, at Johns Hopkins University, Cmdr. Kinelski used his expertise in metallurgy and metals joining to help build and test the famous Ramjet research missiles. From there, he went on to Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory for three years, where he used applied research in the field of corrosion to develop new zinc-based alloys and also conducted extensive corrosion research. He continued working in metallurgy while attending the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his M.S. in metallurgical engineering in 1958. He spent the bulk of his civilian career at the International Nickel Co. (INCO), where he worked as a product development and application engineer. Throughout his 17 year tenure with INCO, he developed several innovative nickel-based alloys, lectured, conducted advanced seminars and was widely published in the field of corrosion engineering. In 1972, Cmdr. Kinelski joined Combustion Engineering Inc. in the role of director of technical activities, and in 1974 moved to Washington , D.C., where he worked first with the Copper Development Association and later with the U.S. Department of Energy's Division of Ocean Energy Systems. He completed his career doing what he loved best, teaching, as an associate professor of Naval systems engineering at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis. In 1984, Cmdr. Kinelski retired with his wife, Dorothy Elizabeth (nee Simpson, originally of Manor) to Pinehurst, N.C. Until recently, he maintained active involvement in national engineering associations, in product development activities for the advancement of ocean energy, was an officer of the Retired Officers Association, and played the violin and cello in various local ensembles. He was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Pinehurst, and a member of Pinehurst Country Club. In addition to his wife of 52 years, he is survived by a son, Robert Simpson Kinelski of Weston, Conn.; a stepdaughter, Judith Mock Miceli of North Huntingdon; four grandchildren; and his sister, Celia Pink of Glendora, Calif. Interment of ashes will take place at Pine Lawn Memorial Park, Southern Pines, N.C. A private memorial service will be announced separately.

Helen C. Kornides
Hostetter

Helen C. Kornides, 75, of Hostetter, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born March 26, 1925, in Hostetter, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Sedlacko Kornides. She was a member of St. Cecilia Church in Whitney, where she belonged to the senior choir and had served as a Sunday collection accountant for many years. Prior to retirement, she was a seamstress at the S.P. Reed Company, Troutman's and The Bon-Ton. She was also a member of the St. Vincent Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Kevin Demyan; a great-niece, Kathleen VanDoran; and a brother-in-law, Richard Demyan. She is survived by two brothers and four sisters , Mary Kornides and Bernard Kornides, with whom she made her home, John Kornides and his wife, Florence, of Latrobe, Rita Martin and her husband, Robert, of Greensburg, Regina Haas and her husband, Donald, of Latrobe and Alma Demyan of Latrobe. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends were received Wednesday and Thursday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church with the Rev. Chad Ficorilli, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment in St. Vincent Cemetery, Unity Township.

George Lori Sr.
Greensburg

George Lori Sr., 76, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 13, 1924, in Wilpen, a son of the late Quinto and Mrytle Ironfield Lori. Prior to retirement, he had been the owner of Lori Waterproofing of Greensburg; and was a member of the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg; and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers , Quinto, Arthur, Gilbert and Marico Lori; and a sister, Louise Levitsky. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Raimondo Lori; two sons , John N. and his wife, Deborah Lori, of Scottdale and George Jr. and his wife, Carol Lori, of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Rose Marie Lori Mull of Greensburg; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Lori of Pittsburgh; two sisters , Mary Vella of Johnstown and Ida Mae Palermo of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Friday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Paul, Greensburg, with the Rev. Daniel C. Mahoney as celebrant. Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33 Honor Guard of Greensburg will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

Lawrence B. McCabe

Lawrence B. McCabe, 60, of Penn Hills, on Monday, July 31, 2000. Beloved husband of Geraldine A. (Gigliotti); Father of John J., Michelle, Victoria McCabe, Andrea Brenner and the late Christine McCabe; grandfather of Melissa, Chuck and Stephanie; brother of Marjorie Evans; son of the late John J. (Sonny) and Golden McCabe; son-in-law of Emma and Joseph Gigliotti. Larry was a past president of the Penn Hills Lions Club, a 38 year member of the Thad Stevens Volunteer Fire Department, member of Penn Hills Chamber of Commerce, Orpheus Singing Society, the Toastmasters, member of St. Bartholomew Church Parish Council and Chairman of the Church Festival Committee. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the LAWRENCE B. McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 10940 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills. Hazel L. McConnell
Mt. Pleasant

Hazel L. McConnell, 90, of Mt. Pleasant (Bullskin Township), died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born May 30, 1910, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Walter S. and Anna P. Shuey Mitchell. She was a member of the Paradise United Methodist Church and its Sunshine Circle. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Grange and a former member of the Bullskin Township Senior Citizens. She was a graduate of Greensburg High School and the California University of Pennsylvania . Prior to her retirement, she was a teacher in the New Kensington and Bullskin Township area schools. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver S. McConnell, in 1980; a sister, Bertha Cable; three brothers , Roy, Lloyd and Robert Mitchell, and an infant brother. She is survived by her loving family, a son, Oliver R. McConnell and wife, Marilyn, of Westville, Ind.; two daughters , Barbara Ackerman and husband, Ray, and Eleanor Poorbaugh and husband, Lee Roy, all of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters , Charlotte Mason of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mary Elizabeth Johns and husband, William, of Wilsonville, Ore. Friends will be received in the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Friday from 1 to 9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held in the Paradise United Methodist Church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time her funeral service will be held with the Rev. Douglas E. Burns officiating. Interment will follow in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Paradise United Methodist Church, 105 Hoke Road, Mt. Pleasant, PA 15666.
