Carolyn L. Schlegel
Carolyn L. Schlegel, 72, of Orwin, died Thursday, April 16, 2004, in the emergency room of the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

Born in Orwin, April 27, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Helen Hand Machamer.
She was retired from the textile industry.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ (UCC), Orwin.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond P., to whom she was married 44 years; two sons, Dane E. McSparron of Muir, and Mark J. Schlegel of Tower City; two daughters, Beverly A. Aukstakainis of Ashley, and Carla R. Zeigler of New Cumberland; a sister, Dorothy Krueger of Tower City; three brothers, Rich of Mountain Top, Ben of Harrisburg and Ron of Williamstown; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, April 19, from St. Peters UCC with the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City RD. Memorial donations may be made to her church, Dietrich Ave., Orwin PA 17980. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

E. Lillian Stiely
E. Lillian Stiely, 89, formerly of Klingerstown, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, at Tremont Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born at Gratz, May 10, 1914, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie Umholtz Williard.

She was a retired seamstress, having been employed at the former Dormar Manufacturing, Gratz, retiring in 1976. She was educated in the Gratz area schools.

She was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church, Klingerstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence E. 'Lutz' Stiely, who died May 2, 1995; infant twin children, who died in 1936; a grandson, Craig Brosius, who died in 1975; three sisters, Mae Klinger, Carrie Wolfgang, and Mary Updegrave; and two brothers, Donald and Alvin Williard.

Surviving are three daughters, Alma 'Peggy' Brosius of Rebuck, Nancy Shaffer of Klingerstown, and Doris Witmer of Dalmatia; a son, Terry Stiely of Klingerstown; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 21, at 11 a.m. from the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, with the Rev. Jay B. Eickhoff officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Lutheran cemetery, Klingerstown. Viewing will be held on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the St. Michael's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 71, Klingerstown, PA 17941. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, has charge of arrangements.

Annie V. Stroup
Annie V. Stroup, 90, formerly of Lykens, died Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Manor Care Health Services, Elizabethtown.
She was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church and Lykens Area Senior Citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Stroup, Sr.
Surviving are two sons, James D., Jr., of Hummelstown and Robert G., of Phoenix, MD; a brother, Anthony Whitecavage of Avenel, NJ; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Tuesday, April 20, at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, with Father Tri M. Luong as celebrant. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, was in charge of arrangements.

June Achenbach
June Achenbach, 82, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Pine Grove, died Monday, April 5, 2004, at Brevard Hospice Care Center, Rockledge, Fla.
Born in Pottsville, April 4, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Edwin and Elsie Fisher Carl. She was a 1940 graduate of Pottsville High School.

She was an active member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, former Pine Grove Women's Club and the Pinegrove Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Arthur A., in October 2003, a daughter, Carla Huntzinger; and a brother, Buddy Carl.

Surviving are two sons, Gregory of Pine Grove, and Steven, with whom she resided; a daughter, Cheryl of Pine Grove; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for her and her husband will be held at a later date to be announced. Atlantic Mortuary, Rockledge, is in charge of arrangements.

Anna M. Baker
Anna M. Baker, 80, of Wellsboro, formerly of Hegins, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at the home of her son with whom she resided, Franklin Specht, of Leck Kill.
Born at RR 1, Klingerstown, August 9, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Lottie E. Reiner Fetterolf.

She was a retired garment worker, having previously worked in the Valley View, Dalmatia, Gratz, and Pine Grove are factories.

She was a member of the Christ United Church of Christ Church, Leck Kill, and a member of the Women's Garment Workers Union.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leon C. Specht, who died December 26, 1944 in Germany, while serving in the US Army during World War II. She was later married to Clinton Baker of Wellsboro. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Pauline Masser, Mae Fetterolf, and Iva Saltzman; and by a brother, Mark Fetterolf.

In addition to her second husband, she is survived by two sons, Franklin Specht of Leck Kill, and Jack Specht of Hegins; three sisters, Elda Kehler of Perkiomenville, Katie Rothermel of Warminster, and Ethel Kimmel of RR 1, Klingerstown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the Christ United Church of Christ Church, Leck Kill, with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Interment was made in the Wellsboro cemetery, Wellsboro. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Hannah M. Bopp
Hannah Mae Bopp, 78, of Williamstown, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at home.
Born in Williamstown, December 10, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William and Hazel Michaels Warlow. She was a 1943 graduate of the former Williamstown High School; co-founder and vice-president of the Williamstown High School Alumni Association; and a life member of the Williamstown Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Bopp Sr.; a son, Todd Bopp; and a sister, Emma Allrutz.

Surviving are two sons, James Bopp at home, and Joseph Bopp of Williamstown; four daughters, Mary Taylor, Catherine Zerby, and Judith Perkins, all of Lykens, and Lois Davis of Harrisburg; a sister, Lois Starnowsky of Wormleysburg; a brother, William 'Bumper' Warlow of Williamstown; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 10, at Sacred Heart of Jesus cemetery, with the Rev. Ann B. Overmiller officiating. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald T. Challenger
Ronald Ted Challenger, 68, of Williamstown, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Williamstown, Oct. 12, 1935, he was a son of Blanche M. Walkinshaw Challenger of Williamstown, and the late Joseph Challenger. He was a graduate of Williamstown High School and Williamson Trade School.

He was an Army veteran and a retired machine operator from the former AMP Inc., Williamstown.

He was a member of Williamstown United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir, administrative board, United Methodist Men and a past chairman of the trustees. He was a member of Williamstown American Legion Post 239 and a 50-year member of Liberty Hose Company No. 1, Williamstown. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Silver Spring Lodge F&AM; 215, Laurel, Md. He was very active with the Williamstown Boy Scouts.

Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Norma Kay Werdt Challenger; a daughter, Ivy L. Drum of Williamstown; a son, Noel R. of Williamstown; a step-son, Raymond J. Manuel of Millersburg; a sister, Connie Shomper of Williamstown; two brothers, James of Elizabethville and Robert of Williamstown; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Masonic services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 18, from Williamstown United Methodist Church followed by memorial services with the Rev. Elizabeth Whitehead officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Fairview cemetery, Williamstown. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Ralph P. Donmoyer
Ralph P. Donmoyer, 85, of Joliett, died Friday, April 9, 2004, at the Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic.
Born in Lebanon County, October 17, 1918, he was a son of the late Elmer A. and Elsie Wenger Donmoyer. Following his parents' death he was raised by the late George and Marie Reinhold.

He retired from Gold Mills, Pine Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Shelters Donmoyer, who died in 2003; a sister, Kathryn Krogman; and two brothers, Gerald, and Harold Donmoyer.

Surviving are three daughters, Betty Marko of Schuylkill Haven, Shirley Wagner of Joliett, and Jean Levan of Pine Grove; two sons, Robert of Pine Grove, and Ralph on Newtown; a brother, Paul of Jonestwon; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at the Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Father Mike Ahrensfield officiating. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, is in charge of arrangements.

Drina H. Fulk-Minnich
Drina H. Fulk-Minnich, 57, of Halifax, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at home.
Born in Harrisburg, February 12, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Frank Hoffman and Esther BowmanHoffman of Halifax.

Surviving are her husband, Bruce R. Minnich of Halifax; two sons, Paul Fulk and Troy Fulk, both of Halifax; two step-daughters, Lindsay R. Minnich of Mt. Carmel and Trisha R. Minnich of Millersburg; two step-sons, Jeremy A. Minnich of Millersburg and Charles Pinkerton of Williamstown; a brother, Terry Hoffman of McConnellsburg; and five grandchildren.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, at 2 p.m., at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Erma L. Hatter
Erma L. Hatter, 92, of Tremont, died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at the Good Samaritan regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Valley View, April 30, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Cora Miller Wolfgang. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Tremont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer D. Hatter, who died in 1977; three sisters, Marie Parrot, Mary Kantanick, and Madelyn Becker; and three brothers, Arthur, Wilbur, and Roger Wolfgang.

Surviving are a daughter, Sara Jane Kimmel of Lancaster; a son, Ralph of Tremont; a sister, Gloria Roth of Reading; a brother, Stanley Wolfgang of Tremont; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 10, from the Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Liddy Howard officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Tremont.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, PO Box 2, Tremont 17981. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, was in charge of arrangements.

Virginia K. Hoy
Virginia K. Hoy, 49, of Millersburg, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Harrisburg, June 17, 1954, she was a daughter of Mark and Jane Lowrie Hoy, who survive her in Millersburg.

She was a CNA for Addius Home Care, Lykens.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a maternal grandmother, Marie Novinger of Millersburg; a brother, Timothy E. Hoy of Slidell, LA; nephew, Guidry Hoy; niece, Leah Hoy; and close friend, Thomas Wilbert of Millersburg.

Memorial services will be held at Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Millersburg, on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

John Mehalko
John Mehalko, 87, of Wiconisco, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Houston, Texas.
Born in Wiconisco, February 28, 1917 he was a son of the late George and Emma Kindler Mehalko.

He had retired as a machinist from T.R.W., Harrisburg; was a member of Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Lykens; Wiconisco Fire Company and Dauphin County Volunteer Firemen's Association.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Mehalko; and two children, John Paul Mehalko and Patricia Ann Bush.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Friday of Houston, TX; three sisters, Emma Kostoroski of Oswego, NY, Pauline Tsibidas of Elmira, NY and Chris Jansen of Horseheads, NY; a brother, Andrew Mehalko of Elmira Heights, NY; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, at Holy Ascension Orthodox Church, Lykens, with Rev. Fr. Michael H. Evans officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Viewings will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 9:45-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens.
