Verna B. Miller
Verna B. Miller, 93, formerly of Williamstown, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at the Tremont Health and Rehab.
She was a member of the Twin Valley Alliance Church, Williamstown, she was a graduate of the former Williamstown High School and was a gifted pianist and organist serving churches for 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob A. in 1967.

Surviving are her daughters, Margaret Washbourne of Kingston, NY and Grace Shuttlesworth of Williamstown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held on Monday, March 22, from her church, with the Rev. Donald Morgantini officiating. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to her church, Route 209 Williamstown, PA 17098. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., was in charge of arrangements.

Edna V. Minnich
Edna V. Minnich, 97, formerly of Pine Grove, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, in Lebanon at the home of her daughter.
Born in Pine Grove Township, August 26, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Cyrus and Sarah Hoy Strausser.

She was a retired presser at Summit Station Manufacturing, Pine Grove.

She was a member of Suedberg Church of God for 68 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, in November 1952; three brothers, Daniel Strausser, Theodore Strausser and Henry Strausser; eight sisters, Annie Felty, Augusta Klinger, Stella Shollenberger, Alice Fidler, Ruth Lehman, Elsie Behney, Roma Lengel and Alma Strausser.

Surviving are a daughter, Elise Light, Lebanon; a granddaughter, Alice Light.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove. The Rev. Terrance Jansma will officiate. Interment will be in Suedberg Church of God cemetery. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Glen Minnich
Glen Minnich, 82, of Langhorne, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at Ridge Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Feasterville.
Born in Hegins, November 15, 1921, he was a son of the late George and Emma Bixler Minnich.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen A. Minnich and Warren W. Minnich.

Surviving are a brother Clifford C. Minnich of Langhorne; a sister Beatrice Noderer of Plymouth Meeting; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 24, from the Buffington-Reed Funeral Home. The Rev. Claude Schach will officiate. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fountain Community cemetery, Fountain, Pa.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Christ United Church of Christ, P. O. Box 57, Hegins, Pa. 17938. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.

Harry W. Portzline
Harry W. Portzline, 76, of Halifax, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at his residence.
Born in Mexico, PA, January 7, 1928, he was a son of the late Charles and Marjorie Swanger Portzline.

He was a retired pipe fitter for the PA Railroad in Enola. He was a lifetime member of the Valley's United Church of Christ, Halifax, where he also served as a past Deacon, Elder, Superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He had memberships with the Fisherville Grange; Halifax VFW Post No. 5750; American Legion Post No. 0648, all of Halifax. He was a Navy Veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Anna M. Mauser Portzline, at home; a son, Harry "Bill" W. Portzline Jr., of Dornsife; four daughters, Barbara A. Harner of Halifax, Laura M. Weaver of Joppa, MD, Wanda "Peanut" L. Portzline of Valley View, and Sharon L. Portzline of Fisherville; a brother, Chester R. Portzline of Elizabethville; a sister, Mary Rummel of Halifax; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held at his church on Monday, March 22, with the Rev. Kristine Lentz officiating. Interment with military honors were in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.

Memorial donations may be made to his church at P.O. Box H, Halifax, PA 17032 or Halifax VFW, Post No. 5750, Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville was in charge of the arrangements.

Verna R. Schwartz
Verna R. Schwartz, 100, formerly of Pine Grove, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at Tremont Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Washington Township, August 23, 1903, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Sarah Miller Schwartz.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Friedensburg, for more than 70 years, and a member of United Teacher Associates.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, John, George, Clarence and Albert Schwartz; four sisters, Mary Wetzel, Amy Stump, Anna Goody and Hilda Schwartz.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Buzzard will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Union cemetery, Friedensburg. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl R. Seaman
Pearl Ruth Seaman, 93, of Millersburg, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
Born on May 9, 1910 in Dubois, she was a daughter of the late James H. and Charlotte E. Rishel Aurand.

She was retired from Reigel's Shirt Factory, Millersburg as a seamstress; was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Millersburg and a former member of the Women's Guild of her church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Seaman; and a sister, Margaret Graff.

Surviving are a daughter, Pauline E. Bordner of Millersburg; two granddaughters, Zoe Zampana of Brookhaven, and Diane Hoy of Millersburg; a great-granddaughter; and a great-great-grandson.

Religious services were held on Saturday, March 20, at the Reinhard Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Rev. Penny Dollar officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg.

Donations may be made to the Trinity United Church of Christ, 235 Center Street, Millersburg, PA 17061 or the Susquehanna Lutheran Village, 990 Medical Road, Millersburg, PA 17061. Reinhard Funeral Home, Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Frederick O. Updegrave
Frederick O. Updegrave of Hershey, formerly of Tower City, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Twin Oaks Nursing Center, Campbelltown.
Born in Tower City, September 8, 1910, he was a son of the late Walter and Jennie Travitz Updegrave.

He was a retired Cement Mason with Local 592, Harrisburg; was of the Protestant faith and a member of the Local and International Cement Mason Unions.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Thelma Wagner in 1981; a daughter, Shirley Clepper; two sons, Lawrence and Donald and a grandson, Gary.

Surviving are a daughter, Donna M. Shertzer of Hershey; three sisters, Florence Kemble and Isabelle Lenker, both of Tower City and Blanche Ulsh of Newport; a brother, Edward of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, March 20, from the chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Betty A. Wehry
Betty A. Wehry, 73, of Klingerstown, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.
Born in Upper Mahanoy Township, Klingerstown, May 7, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mabel Rebuck Klinger.

She was educated in the Upper Mahanoy Township schools. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Klingerstown, where she had been a former CO-chairperson of the kitchen committee.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. 'Bill' Wehry, who died May 2, 2000; three sisters, Pauline Klouser, Myrtle Klinger, and an infant sister; six brothers, Homer, Walter, Charles, Kenneth, and George Klinger, and an infant brother.

Surviving are two sisters, Katie Smeltz of RR 1, Herndon, and Vinnie Klock of RR 1, Dornsife; two sister-in-laws, Betty Blyler of Hegins, and Edith Klinger of Trevorton; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, at 11 a.m. from the Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, with the Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in the Salem cemetery, Klingerstown.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Church of Christ Church memorial Fund, 1128 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, PA 17941. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Suvilla A. Zeigler
Suvilla A. Zeigler, 88, of Millersburg, formerly of Elizabethville, died on Sunday, March 14, 2004, at the Susquehanna Lutheran Village.
Born in Myerstown, March 14, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Eva Wagner Page.

She was a retired Secretary for Moyer Packing, Elizabethville and a former co-owner of the former Zeigler's Locker Service, Elizabethville. She was a lifetime member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Elizabethville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Zeigler.

Surviving are a son, Leroy P. Zeigler of Fredrick, MD; a daughter, Rebecca S. Deibler of Dauphin, three brothers, Earl Paige of VA Beach, VA, Walter Page of Myerstown and Ernist Page of Mount Dora, FL; four grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Services were held on Friday, March 19, at Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, with the Rev. Nancy Weiss officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove cemetery, Elizabethville.

Memorial donations may be made to her church at 205 West Main Street, Elizabethville, PA 17023. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Stella M. Adams
Stella M. Adams, 92, of Ann Arbor, MI, formerly of Tower City, died Friday, March 5, 2004, at Arbor Hospice Residence.

Born in Clarks Valley, February 13, 1912 she was a daughter of Henry O. and Emma J. Minnich Adams.

She retired from Edwards Brothers after 21 years of service and was an active member of the Pittsfield Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by a son, Gary E. Adams; and nine brothers and sisters.

Surviving are a son, Randy Adams of Saline, MI; a sister Mable E. Miller of Tower City; three grandchildren; Dawn Cach of Pinckney, Jennifer Thompson of Onsted and Deanna Rucinski of Tecumseh, six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 9, at the Nie Family Funeral Home, Ann Arbor, MI. Interment was in Washtenong Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to either Arbor Hospice or to the Pittsfield Senior Center.

The Nie Family Funeral Home, Ann Arbor, MI. was in charge of arrangements.

Royal L. Adley
Royal L. Adley, 73, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Tremont Health & Rehab.

Born in Muir, he was a son of the late George and Hilda King Adley.

He was a retired coal miner.

Surviving are his wife, Beverly Y. Richards Adley, to whom he was married 44 years; two sons, David Adley and James Adley; two daughters, Nancy L. Deibert and Cathy J. Deibert, all of Williamstown; a step-daughter, Pamela Deibert of CT; a brother, Harry of Williamstown; two sisters, Virginia Morris of VA and Geraldine Adley of Tower City; nieces and nephews.

Services were private. Interment was in the Greenwood cemetery, Tower City.

Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., was in charge of arrangements.
