Lester I. Schaeffer
Lester I. Schaeffer, 71, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, February 11, 1932, he was a son of the late James E. and Anna R. Brown Schaeffer. He was a 1949 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving as a corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed as an auto mechanic helper for the former Smith Motor Co. and the former Manbeck's Motor Co., Pine Grove. He owned Les' Gulf Station, Pine Grove, for 19 years.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ravine, where he served on the consistory as elder and president for more than 20 years, was a choir member and president of St. Paul's Reformed cemetery Association. He was president of commercial league of Pottsville Bowling Association for more than 10 years, and a member of Pine Grove Ambulance Association for 38 years, Red Suspenders Hunting Club, member of the former Lakeside Chorus, and was a former Boy Scout in Troop 111.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Robert; twin sisters, Arlene Schaeffer and Irene Schaeffer.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Helen Bender; a daughter, Elizabeth Fisher of Reading; two brothers, Donald "Gussy" of Pine Grove, and Joseph "Willie" of Donaldson; two sisters, Lorraine Henninger of Elizabethville, and Diane Miller of Pine Grove.

Services were held Tuesday, January 20, in St. Paul's UCC, with the Rev. Mary Lou Eckels officiating. Interment was in Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence W. Snyder
Clarence W. Snyder, 73, of Pitman, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman.

Born in Pitman, September 2, 1930, he was a son of the late George W. and Mabel S. Herring Snyder.

He was a retired truck driver at the former Ralph Masser Produce, Pitman, and later sold produce in the Shamokin area.

He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pitman, where he had been a janitor.

Surviving are a sister, Alma Sheesley of Midwest City, Okla.; nieces and nephews.

Memorial service were held Sunday, January 25, at St. James Lutheran Church. The Rev. Warren Egebo will officiate. Interment will be held later in St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational cemetery, Pitman. Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Sara S. Stoltzfus
Sara S. Stoltzfus, 70, of Elizabethville, died Sunday, January 25, 2004, at home.

Born in Leacock Twp., July 28, 1933, she was a daughter of the late David Y. Lapp and Ada M. Stoltzfus Lapp.

She was of the Amish faith.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Rebeca Beiler, Anna Mary Lapp, and Katie Lapp; two brothers, David Lapp and Emanuel Lapp.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph S. Stoltzfus; four brothers, Henry Lapp and Leon Lapp, both of Gap, Eli Lapp of Akron, and Benuel Lapp of Sarasota, FL; and two sisters, Naomi Esh of Millersburg, and Lena King of Elizabethville.

Religious services were held at the home on Tuesday, January 27. Interment was in west Lykens Valley cemetery, Millersburg. James A. Reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.

Horace E. Watkeys
Horace E. Watkeys, 87, of Norristown, died Friday, January 23, 2004, at Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown.

He had retired as a mechanical engineer from Budd Company, Philadelphia; was a graduate of the former Wiconisco High School; attended engineering school and was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Wiconisco.

Born in Wiconisco, November 20, 1916, he was a son of the late Richard and Amelia Howell Watkeys.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelyn Reigle Watkeys.

Surviving are a daughter, Cindy E. Wissler of Wernersville; a sister, Florence Pearce of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at Wesley United Methodist Church, Pottsville Street, Wiconisco, with the Rev. Edward T. D'Agostino officiating. Interment will be in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco. Viewing will be from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, has charge of arrangements.

Eugene A. Feidt
Eugene A. Feidt, 64, of Millersburg, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, as a result of a vehicular accident on Route 209 in Washington Twp.

Born in Berrysburg, he was a son of the late Floyd and Beatrice Potter Feidt.

He was a dairy farmer and a director of the PA Farm Bureau. He was a member of the PA Holstein Association, Salem U.C.C. in Elizabethville and the Gratz Antique Machinery Association.

Surviving are his wife, Deloris M. Enders Feidt; a son, David E.; two daughters, Katherine Kafora and Karen Uhler II, all of Millersburg; three sisters, Betty Buffington and Shirley Feidt, both of Millersburg, and Judy Musselman of Mechanicsburg; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held on Thursday, January 15, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara A. Fessler
Barbara A. Fessler, 69, of Pine Grove, died Friday, January 9, 2004, at home.

Born in Reading, October 9, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Charles W. and Eva M.E. Noll Graver.

She and her husband owned and operated Holli Hosiery Hans C. Bick, Reading. She also had been employed as an accountant.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pine Grove, where she was a former secretary and Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Randall Graver.

Surviving are her husband, Lewis H.; a son, John L Bowers of Arizona; a daughter, Daphne Dee Miller of Reading; two grandchildren.

Graveside services and interment were held in Laureldale cemetery, Reading. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Lewis S. Gearhart
Lewis S. Gearhart, 85, of the Kepler Home, Elizabethville, formerly of Linglestown, died Monday, January 12, 2004, in Harrisburg Hospital.

He retired from the federal government and was a member of the Charlton U.M. Church and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.

He was the widower of Geraldine Jacobs Gearhart.

Surviving are his wife, Cora Capolupo Gearhart, a resident at the Kepler Home; a son, Leroy Moppin of Berrysburg; two step-sons, Tony and Louis Capolupo; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Services were held on Thursday, January 15, at the Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg. Interment with military honors was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Millersburg, was in charge of arrangements.

Mark H. Gongloff
Mark H. Gongloff, 77, of Orwin, died Sunday, January 18, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital, Reading.

Born in Orwin, August 16, 1926, he was a son of the late William and Beulah Bohr Gongloff.

He was retired with building maintenance at Ft. Indiantown Gap, Annville; was also a retired Coal Miner; member of St. Peters United Church, Orwin and was a World War II Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Mae Fry, who died November 25, 1999, after 49 years of marriage.

Surviving are two sons, Dale T. of Annville, R.D. and Brian L. of Mechanicsburg; a brother, William of Williamstown; two sisters, Mae Witmer of Tower City and Grace Zerby of Williamstown; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 22, at 11 a.m., from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment will be in the St. Peters cemetery, Orwin. Viewing will be from 10-11 a.m. at the chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to his church, Dietrich Avenue, Orwin. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, is handling arrangements.

Ethel D. Grell
Ethel D. Grell, 93, formerly of Lykens, died Monday, January 12, 2004, at Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg.

She was a member of the Lykens United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence W. Grell.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, and cousin.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 16, at the John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, with the rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating. Interment was in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church, 527 North Second St., Lykens, PA 17048. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, was in charge of arrangements.

Catherine B. Herb
Catherine B. Herb, 88, formerly of Hershey, where she along with her late husband, Charles M. Herb were Milton Hershey School houseparents, died Thursday, January 8, 2004, in the Sand Piper Nursing Home in Mt. Pleasant, SC.

Born in Dalmatia, October 5, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Oliver and Ella A. Keen Bettleyon.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are a son, James Snyder of Mt. Pleasant; a grandson, Craig Anthony Snyder of Atlanta, GA and a brother, Robert Oliver Bettleyon of Hershey.

Services were private.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church at 300 Palm Blvd., Isle of Palms, SC 29451.

Jane L. Herring
Jane Louise Herring, 52, of Donaldson, died Tuesday, January 13, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, Pottsville.

Born in Lykens, April 30, 1951, she was a daughter of Shirley Thompson Fessler of Joliett and the late Harry Fessler.

She was a member of Joliett First United Methodist Church, Joliett; the Joliett Fire Company Auxiliary; and the Williams Valley Band Boosters.

In addition to her mothers, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Stanley Herring; a son, Nathan at home; and a grandmother, Alma Thompson of Joliett.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, at 11 a.m. at the Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, with the Rev. Donald Boyd officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery, Muir.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Joliett First United Methodist Church, Joliett. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna M. Lubold
Edna M. Lubold, 83, of Erdman, died Friday, January 16, 2004, in Tremont Nursing Home.

Born May 29, 1920 in Lykens, she was a daughter of the late John and Lillie Willier Schoffstall.

She was retired from the former Dormar Manufacturing Co., in Gratz, as a presser. She was a member of Klinger's Zion Lutheran Church, Lykens R.D.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur A. Lubold, who died on September 6, 2001.

Surviving are a son, Paul G. Lubold of Kingston, NY; two sisters, Sara Jane Jury of Gratz, Alberta Leitzel of Dallastown; four brothers, John Schoffstall of Gratz, Stanley Schoffstall of Duncannon, Albert Schoffstall of Halifax and Charles Schoffstall of Harrisburg; and two grandchildren.

Religious service were held at Klinger's Zion Lutheran Church, Erdman, on Tuesday, January 20, with Rev. Jay B. Eickoff officiating. Interment was in Klinger's Church cemetery, Erdman.

Donations may be made to Klinger's Zion Lutheran Church, Lykens R.D., PA. James A. reed Funeral Home, Pillow, was in charge of arrangements.
