Jean L. Long
Jean L. Long, 70, of RD1 Tower City, died Monday, November 24, 2003, at home.
Born in Keffers, March 4, 1933, she was a daughter of Audry Walbert Smith, Good Spring, and the late Harold Smith.
She operated Long's Grocery Store with her family from 1970-77. She also worked as a seamstress at the former Bobbi Rogers Dress Factory and was last employed at Sears Department Store, Schuylkill Mall, Frackville.
She was of the United Methodist faith.

She was a member of Tower City Legion Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Tower City Chapter, Gratz VFW Auxiliary and Order of Eastern Star Glen Chapter, Lykens.

She was preceded in death by a son, Timothy L., who died in 1995; a grandson, Brandon Merwine, who died in 1991; and a granddaughter, Ashley Schorr, who died in 1991.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 50 years, Elmer L.; a son, Terry L. of Maryland; four daughters, Debra L. Fowler of Florida, Audri L. Kalinowski of Sugarloaf, and Denise L. Reinoehl and Jean L. Schorr, both of Tower City; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, November 29, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, with the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment was in Greenwood cemetery. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Clay W. Lengle
Clay W. Lengle, 82, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Pine Grove, October 3, 1921, he was a son of the late Wilson Lyman and Bertha May Sattizahn Lengle. He was a 1939 graduate of Pine Grove High School.

He was a retired cutter for Garden State Tanning, Fleetwood.

He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Ravine, and a life member of Oak Grove Sportsman's Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Verda M. Fehr, who died on July 31, 1969; a daughter, Peggy Long; and a sister, Dorothy Frantz.

Surviving are a son, Allen W. of Harrisburg; a daughter, Sharon A. Hatterof Pine Grove; a brother, William Culbert of Pine Grove; and two grandsons.

Services were held Saturday, November 29, at H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Mary Lou Eckels officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove.

Memorials donations may be made to the Pine Grove Ambulance Assoc., P.O. Box 125, Pine Grove or St. Paul's U.C.C., P.O. Box 24, Ravine, PA 17966. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Daniel W. Jury
Daniel W. Jury, 93, of Mechanicsburg, formerly a lifelong resident of Millersburg died Saturday November 22, 2003, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
Born January 14, 1910 in Washington Twp. Dauphin County he was a son of the late Oliver and Annie Lenker Jury.

He was a graduate of the former Elizabethville High School. He retired as a foreman of the lasting room at the former Muskin Shoe Company and also served as sexton of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for 27 years, finally retiring when he was 80 years old.

He was a technical sergeant in World War II, serving as a platoon sergeant with the 276th regiment of the 70th infantry division during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star for Valor and the Purple Heart Medal. On June 15, 1944, he was honored with receipt of the Expert Infantryman Badge, having been one of eight out an initial group of 51 men in his division to take and successfully complete the test. He also received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze stars. He received the rating of Expert Rifle M1 in 1943 and Sharpshooter Bar in 1944. He was in battles at Wingen, Obermunthal and Forbach, France. He was a life member of the 70th division association which allowed him to renew valued friendships and make new ones at the biennial reunions and during two "Back to Europe" trips.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Millersburg; a life member of American Legion Post No. 326; a founding member of VFW Post No. 5507. He was active with the Millersburg Fire Co. for many years, led the company marching unit in the 1950's and served several terms as president. He had served as president of a former Millersburg area twilight baseball league.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara "Sally" Deppen Jury; an infant son Truman Allen; two brother George and Mark; and a sister Verna Lilly Deibler.

Surviving are a daughter Doris Miller of Dillsburg; a granddaughter Marcia Miller of Philadelphia; a brother-in-law Ernest Deppen and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Wednesday November 26, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Millersburg. Interment with military honors was in Stone Valley cemetery, Hickory Corners.

A. Harold Grosser
A. Harold Grosser, 66, of Halifax died Friday November 21, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.
Born in Jackson Twp. he was a son of the late Henry and Elsie Warfel Grosser. He was retired owner of Grosser Excavating Contractors.

He was a member of Susquehanna Lodge No. 364 F&AM; : Millersburg Tall Cedars No.125; Studebaker's Driver's Club; he attended St. James Church in Carsonville. He also served in the PA National Guard.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are his wife Betty L. Zimmerman Grosser; three sons Rick, Jeffrey, and Douglas and a daughter Vicky Hoover all of Halifax; two brothers Ernest of Halifax and Marlin of Elizabethville; two sisters Betty Troutman of Loyalton and Marie Miller of Halifax; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held on Wednesday November 26, at Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville. Interment was in Miller's Church cemetery, Halifax. Masonic services were also held on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Central PA Chapter 3607 Rosemont Ave. Suite 404 Harrisburg, PA 17011. Hoover Funeral Homes, Inc., Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Harold J. Fegley
Harold J. Fegley, 86, of Pine Grove, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.
Born in Hillside, October 2, 1917, he was a son of the late Hoarce E. and Emily Kline Fegley.

He retired as a truck driver from George Lynn Construction.

He was a member of Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, Pine Grove.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Weston.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Betty M. Herring; three daughters, Barbara Brown of Pine Grove, Eleanor Douglas of Maryland, and Brenda Arndt of Hamburg; three sisters, Helen Zimmerman of Orwigsburg, Grace Emerich of Pine Grove, and Freda Bazley of Arizona; five brothers, Hoarce of Orwigsburg, Ernest and Gene, both of Pine Grove, Joseph and Paul, both of Summit Station; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 13 foster children he raised.

A memorial service was held Saturday, November 29, at Ebling Funeral Home, Cressona, with the Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment was in St. John's Union cemetery, Wayne. Ebling Funeral Home, Cressona, was in charge of arrangements.

Gerald L. Deitrich
Gerald L. Deitrich, 79, of Elizabethville, died Thursday, November 27, 2003, at SCCI, Harrisburg.
Born in Elizabethville March 5, 1924, he was a son of the late Harry and Millie Mae Hoffman Dietrich.

He was retired from Harrisburg Dairies, Harrisburg; and was a veteran of both WWII and Korea.

He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Elizabethville; a 50 year member of Ashlar Lodge F&AM; No. 570, Lykens; a Life Member of Reliance Hose Co., Elizabethville; a member of the American Legion Post No. 404; and a member of the Upper Dauphin Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by a step-son Jesse G. Snyder, two brothers and eight sisters.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys A. Hockenbroch Dietrich; a son Richard L. Dietrich of Mechanicsburg; a step-son Douglas M. Snyder of Ephrata; a sister Margaret Wilt of Millersburg; five step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Religious and Masonic services were held on Tuesday, December 2, at Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville. Interment with military honors was in Summit cemetery, Shamokin Twp.

Memorial donations may be sent to his church at 25 E. Main Street, Elizabethville, PA 17023. Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville, was in charge of arrangements.

Robert D. Deiter
Robert D. Deiter, 71, of Tower City, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at home.

Born in Tower City, January 21, 1932, he was a son of the late John H. Sr. and Myrtle Ritzman Dieter. He was a 1951 graduate of Tower City High School.

He was an Army veteran, having served during the Korean War with Company C, 998th Engineer Construction Battalion in Toul, France. He received the National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed by TRW Inc., Harrisburg.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tower City, the TRW Pioneers, American Legion Post 239, Williamstown, and Pine Grove and Tremont Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, the former Anna Mae Wenrich; a son, Dennis of Tower City; two daughters, Brenda Emberg of Shepherdsville City, Ky., and Diane Machamer of Williamstown; two brothers, John Jr. of Williamstown, and Dale of Tower City; two sisters, Myrtle Eleanor Kimmel of Donaldson, and Pearl Aungst of Wyomissing; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 1, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Linda Bonfiglio officiating. Interment was in St. John's Lutheran cemetery, Pine Grove.

Cordelia M. Neitz
Cordelia M. Neitz, 92, of Manor Care of Camp Hill, formerly of Millersburg died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Manor Care.
Born in Millersburg, March 27, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John and Jalania Neagley Miller.

She was a graduate of Millersburg High School and received her B.S. in Library Science from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY. She also received her teacher's certificate from Susquehanna University and her M.S. in Education from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. She organized school libraries for the State Library System in Harrisburg; was a senior File Clerk in the Governor's Office; was a Cataloger for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Washington, D.C.; Library Assistant at PA State University, State College; Cataloger for the U.S. Dept. of State, Washington, D.C.; Senior Cataloger for Columbia University, New York, NY; Catalog Librarian and Assistant Professor at Dickinson College, Carlisle; Acting Librarian and Associate Professor at Dickinson College and Librarian for the Cumberland County Historical Society, Carlisle.

She was a member of the American Library Association; Pennsylvania Library Association; American Association of University Professors; Metropolitan Opera Guild; Cumberland County Historical Society; Historical Society of Millersburg and Upper Paxton Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Donald Neitz; four sisters, Emma and Harriet Miller both of Millersburg, Gertrude Kehler of Millersburg, and Kathryn Witmer of Pine Grove; a brother Herbert of Fullerton, CA.; nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Hoover Funeral Home, Millersburg on Saturday, November 29. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery, Millersburg.

David M. Bell
David Moyer Bell, 78, of Pine Grove, died Saturday, November 22, 2003, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Lebanon.

Born in Philadelphia, October 20, 1925, he was a son of the late Charles D. and Ruth Amanda Moyer Bell.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the NRS New York, NTS Newport, R.I., USS Hancock, RS Boston, Mass., and at PSC Lido Beach, Long Island, N.Y. He received the American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with five stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars and World War II Victory Medal.

He had been a postal worker in Los Angeles, Calif.

He was a member of Pine Grove Wesleyan Church and Men's Prayer Group, Pine Grove.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, the former Elizabeth Lapp; a sister, Doris Muir, Hinsdale, Ill.

Services were held Monday, November 24, at Pine Grove Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Tim Moore officiating. Interment was in Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, was in charge of arrangements.

Harry M. Bressler
Harry M. Bressler, 86, of Auburn, died Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at Pottsville Hospital.

Born in Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Norman and Mary Moyer Bressler.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He retired in 1982 after 12 years as a shipping clerk for Phillips Petroleum, Auburn.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Summer Hill, life member of Staller-Luckenbill VFW Post 3975, Auburn, where he was commander of the firing squad for more than 30 years, Behler-Heim American Legion Post 637, Hamburg, where he was a bugler and in the drum and bugle corps, National Rifle Association, Memorial Council at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, and 28th Division Heritage Association, Harrisburg. He was chairman of Auburn's Memorial Day parade for more than 20 years and was a past president of Auburn Borough Council.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth B. Heim; three brothers, Arlan A. of Douglassville, Jim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Dorie D. of Auburn; three sisters, Madelon Reber of Pottsville, Loretta Meck of Hamburg, and Mildred Riegel of Pine Grove.

Services were held Saturday, November 22, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Interment was in Summer Hill cemetery. Leibensperger Funeral Homes Inc., Hamburg, was in charge of arrangements.
