Anna M. Zerby
Anna M. Zerby, 78, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, November 4, 2003, at her home.

Born in Wiconisco, January, 27, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Matzko Leshko.

She was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church and a social member of the Williamstown American Legion No. 239.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Tip" who died in 2001 and a son, Nicky in 1958.

Surviving are her son, C. Robert of Williamstown; two brothers, Michael Leshko of Lykens and Paul Leshko of Halifax; three sisters, Vera Mihalko of New York, Martha Davis of Linglestown and Pauline Houtz of York; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 7, from the Williamstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Elizabeth Whitehead officiating. Interment was in the Fairview cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Williamstown Area EMS, P.O. Box 74, Williamstown, PA 17098; or to VNA Hospice, 3315 Derry Street, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Williamstown, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur A. Achenbach
Arthur A. "Bud" Achenbach, Pine Grove, died October 21, 2003, in Melbourne, Fla., at the home of his son, Steven.

Born in Pine Grove, April 19, 1919, he was a son of the late Arthur A. and Hannah Hoy Achenbach. He was a 1937 graduate of Pine Grove High School and attended Penn State University for two years and graduated from Pierce Business College, Philadelphia.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater as a master sergeant.

He owned Arthur A. Achenbach & Sons, an insurance and real estate business, Pine Grove, for more than 30 years.

He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Pine Grove, where he taught Sunday school and was treasurer. He was an Eagle Scout and helped form the Pine Grove Little League; was a 50-year member of Pine Grove Hose, Hook and Ladder Fire Company; a member of the board of directors of Lebanon Valley Farmers Bank; was secretary of the board of the Pine Grove Mutual Insurance Co.; a member of Masonic Lodge, Pine Grove, Rajah Temple, Harrisburg, Odd Fellows Lodge, the former Rotary Club, and Pinegrove Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Huntzinger.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former June Carl; two sons, Gregory and Steven; a daughter, Cheryl; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at the convenience of the family.

Shirley M. Baird
Shirley M. Baird, 68, of Santa Maria, CA, died Wednesday, October 8, 2003.
Born September 25, 1935 in Big Run, PA, she was a daughter of he late William and Sarah Wiest.

She was raised in Wiconisco, PA and recently celebrated her 50 year class reunion from Wiconisco High School.

Following her graduation, she married Robert Baird in 1955, and moved to California. She settled in Santa Maria in 1988. She was employed by Souza Food Service, Santa Maria as an accounts receivable secretary and retired after 10 years of service.

Surviving are her former husband, Robert Baird of Yuba City, CA; her children and their spouses, Terry and Mike Jeffries of Santa Maria, CA and Kenny and Dana Baird of Bakersfield, CA; three sisters, Dolores Hoffman of Hummelstown, PA, Donna Collins of Wiconisco, PA and Darlene Grow of Elizabethville, PA; and six grandchildren.

Her life was celebrated on October 18.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Santa Maria Valley Unit, 230 S. Palisade Drive, Santa Maria, CA 93454 or the American Diabetes Association.

Beverly Cornett
Beverly Cornett, 61, of Lancaster, formerly of Tower City, died Monday, September 22, 2003, in Lancaster.

Born in Jonestown, December 10, 1941, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Kathryn Yoder Yergo.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are two daughters, Debra J. Silver of Florida, and Jann Marie King of Lancaster; two sisters, Barbara Battin of Bangor, and Arlene Hopkins of Virginia; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, November 1, in Greenwood cemetery, Tower City, with the Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Doyle L. Girton
Doyle L. Girton, 70, of Williamstown, died Friday, October 31, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.

Born in Bloomsburg, March 13, 1933, he was a son of the late D. Clark and Eleanor Thomas Girton. He was a graduate of Williamstown High School.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and also served 37 years with the Pennsylvania Army National Guard 228 S&T.;

He was a retired installer for Western Electric and also retired as communication specialist at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Tower City, and its choir, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1603, Tower City, American Legion Post 239 and Liberty Hose Company No. 1, both of Williamstown, and the Bell Pioneers. He was also a member and past president of the former Williamstown Military Band.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn R. "Becky, " who died on November 30, 1989.

Surviving are a daughter, Brenda L. Lower of Tower City; a son, Bryan K. of Palmyra; a companion, Dorothy Joseph of Muir; four grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, November 4, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, with the Rev. Paul Baughman officiating. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Williamstown. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Cameron J. Harner
Cameron J. Harner, infant son of James Harner and Pamela Klock Horn, of Wiconisco, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandfathers, Richard Gilbert, Guy Harner, Melvin Koppenhaver, Ralph Klock Sr., Eugene Howard and Robert Schmick.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a half-brother, Bradley Horn, at home; maternal grandparents, Carol Becker of Williamstown, and Ralph Klock Jr. of Pitman; paternal grandparents, Richard and Dora Harner of Wiconisco; maternal great-grandmothers, Lorraine Klock of Pitman, and Dorothy Schmick of Elizabethville; paternal great-grandmothers, Eleanor Gilbert of Wiconisco, and Ida Koppenhaver of Valley View.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Calvary United Methodist cemetery, Wiconisco. Dimon Funeral Homes Inc., Williamstown, is in charge of arrangements.

Kendall C. Hepler
Kendall Craig Hepler, 41, of Hegins, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at his home.
Born in Pottsville, December 21, 1961 he was a son of Kenneth and Geraldine Hentz Hepler of Valley View.

He was a 1979 graduate of Tri-Valley High School and a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College. He was employed at Dana Corporation, Reading, as a welder prior to becoming ill. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View; member and Past Master of F&AM; Valley Lodge No. 797, Valley View; member of the Harrisburg Consistory AAONMS; the Valley View Fire Company; Dutchman's Hunting Camp, Bradford County; Sons of the American Legion Post 575, Valley View; and the NRA.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Kendra Hepler of Valley View; two sisters, Gretchen Zerbe and Kelsey Arbogast, both of Valley View; two nieces; a nephew; and a grand-nephew.

Religious and Masonic services were held Saturday, November 1, at St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Valley View, with the Rev. George Reynolds officiating. Interment was in St. Andrew's cemetery, Valley View.

Contributions may be made to the Kendra J. Hepler Scholarship Fund, c/o the Gratz National Bank, PO Box 816, Valley View, PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, was in charge of arrangements.

Roy E. Hoke
Roy Edward Hoke, 74, of Millersburg, died Saturday, November 1, 2003, in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Born August 22, 1929 he was a son of the late Daniel Leroy, Sr. and Cora A. Snody Hoke.

He was a member of the Pleasant View Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Halifax. He was an Army Veteran from the Korean War. He was retired from the former Johnson Bailey Shoe Co., Millersburg and also worked for the former Muskin Shoe Co., Millersburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Kathryn Martha Scheib Hoke who died on March 11, 2001.

Surviving are three daughters, Kim Elaine Collins of Lenhartsville, Rene' Eileen Hoke of Harrisburg, Lorri Ann Harner of Danville; three sons, Kevin Hoke, with whom he resided of Millersburg, Roy Edgar Hoke of Hershey, Lynn Edward Hoke of Millersburg; five sisters, Delphia Enders, Mabel Graff, Sarah Feidt, Dorothy Hoke, Carrie Buffington, all of Millersburg; two brothers, Howard 'Peanut' Hoke of Millersburg, William 'Billy' Hoke of Elizabethville; nine grandchildren; a step-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, on Wednesday, November 5 at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National cemetery, with military honors. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 to 9:30 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to his church at 2981 Armstrong Valley Road, Halifax, PA 17032. Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., Elizabethville, is in charge of arrangements.

Henry A. Kemble
Henry A. Kemble, 83, of Tower City, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at the Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Lykens on September 4, 1920, he was a son of the late Lester and Eva Hoffman Kemble.

He was a retired cement finisher with Local Union 94, was a World War II Army Veteran, and was of the Protestant faith.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Florence T. Updegrave Kemble; a daughter, Jane L. Nye; three sons, Lawrence L., Teddy W., all of Tower City, Jeffrey S., of Xenia, Ohio; two brothers, Norman of Lemoyne, and Donald of Delaware; two sisters, Charlotte Kinter of New Cumberland and Lillian Bowman of Millersburg; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 4, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Edward Gobrecht officiating. Interment with military honors was at Indiantown Gap National cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 446 E. Grand Avenue, Tower City, PA 17980. Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, was in charge of arrangements.

Arthur A. Klinger
Arthur A. Klinger, 80 of Berrysburg, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, East Pennsboro Twp.
Born in Tremont on January 21, 1923, he was a son of the late Guerney A. and Gertrude Troutman Klinger.

He was a retired electrical contractor and current minister of the Maranatha Chapel in Berrysburg. He had memberships with the Elizabethville American Legion "John Lloyd" Post No. 404; and Reliance Hose Co. No. 1, Elizabethville. He was a Major and pilot for the Air Force during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth and sister, Ruth Kuehn.
Surviving are his wife, Violet M. Klinger Klinger, at home; son, Kenneth A. Klinger of Bullhead City, AZ; and brother, Ralph W. Klinger of Rutherford Heights, Harrisburg.

Memorial services will be held at his church on Sunday, November 9, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be private in the U.C.C. Reformed cemetery, Berrysburg. There will be no viewing or visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to Maranatha Chapel, Building Fund, Box 35, Berrysburg, PA 17005. Hoover Funeral Home Inc., Elizabethville is in charge of arrangements.

Linda S. Klinger
Linda S. Klinger, 50, of Orwigsburg, died Saturday, November 1, 2003, at the Ashland Regional Medical Center, Fountain Springs.

Born at Ashland, March 29, 1953, she was a daughter of Marlyn E. Wehry of Mowry, and the late Lois Ann Kramer Wehry, who died September 20, 1989.

She was employed as an inspector of textile products at Alpha Mills, Inc., Orwigsburg.

She was a 1971 graduate of North Schuylkill High School. She was a member of the Evangelical Congregational faith.

In addition to her father she is survived by her step-mother, Ruth Kepner Blank Wehry of Pine Grove; a daughter, Brittany N. Griffin of Orwigsburg; a sister, Carol Ramer of RR 1, Pitman; a brother, James L. Wehry of San Francisco, CA; and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Zion Church Road, Pitman, with the Rev. Ken Schira and the Rev. Bryan Dever officiating. Viewing will be held in the church on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, RR 1, Klingerstown, is in charge of arrangements.

John H. Koppenhaver
John H. "Butch" Koppenhaver, 84, of Pine Grove died Tuesday, October 28, 2003, in the Country Meadows Retirement Community, Mechanicsburg.

Born May 19, 1919 in Deodate, PA, he was a son of the late Oscar and Mary Shenk Koppenhaver.

He attended electrical trade school in Hershey following High School. He worked for J.C. Hess Ford, Hershey, as a mechanic. In 1953, he moved to Pine Grove Furnace and worked as a mechanic at the Gulf service station in Mt. Holly Springs. In 1966, he became Park Foreman at Pine Grove Furnace State Park and was also a Fire Warden for the Department of Environmental Resources, retiring in 1984. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 6704, Mechanicsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wolfe.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn K. Fultz and Kenneth Fultz of Pine Grove Furnace, PA and a close friend, Ellen Felice of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward Koppenhaver and two sisters, Ada Foreman and Anna Sweger.

Services were held Friday, October 31, in the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, with the Rev. William E. Pipp officiating. Interment was in Hummelstown cemetery, Hummelstown. Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, was in charge of arrangements.
