Jean W. Theurer

Jean W. Theurer, 70, of Grantville, formerly of Williamstown, died Wednesday, August 27, 2003, in Harrisburg Hospital.

Born March 13, 1933 in Williamstown, he was a daughter of the late Robert W. Moss and Alma Griffith.

Surviving are her husband, James D. Theurer; two sons, Dave E. Theurer and James R. Theurer, both of Harrisburg; a brother, James R. Moss of Tacoma, WA; seven grandchildren; and her mother-in-law, June Ginder of Grantville.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, at 1:30 p.m., in the Hoover Funeral Home, Linglestown. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Miller's cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA or American Heart Association. Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., Linglestown, was in charge of arrangements.

William L. Carl
William L. Carl, 72, of 705 W. Market Street, Williamstown, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2005 at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton.

Born in Tower City on October 12, 1933, he was a son of the late Ivan and Mae Miller Carl.

He was retired as a group leader with Wagman, York; was an Army Veteran and Army Reserve Veteran; was of the Protestant faith and a life member of the Williamstown American Legion #239. He was also a member of the United Steelworkers Union.

Bill was an avid outdoors man, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Tommy and Arlen Carl and a sister, Nona Talhelm.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret M. Maletich Carl, to whom he was married 51 years; his son, Michael L. Carl, of Williamstown; 2 sisters, Patty Britton of FL and Judy Weist of Tower City; 1 brother, Robert Carl of Williamstown; 2 granddaughters, Megan Carl of State College and Jessica Carl of Williamstown; and nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held on Friday, Nov. 18, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City, with Rev. Russel Jones. Burial with full military honors was held in Indiantown Gap National cemetery.

Ralph H. W. Moyer
Ralph H. W. Moyer, age 51, of Gratz, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at home.

He was a former employee at the Naval Supply Depot, Mechanicsburg.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, William J. Kitting.

He is survived by his wife, Deloris M. Moyer; and his mother, Shirley A. Kitting of Lykens.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, has charge of arrangements.

Dean S. Koppenhaver
Dean S. Koppenhaver, 79 of Lebanon, formerly of Elizabethtown, died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at Hershey Medical Center.

Born in Valley View, PA he was the son of the late Wesley and Alva Sausser Koppenhaver. He was the husband of Doris L. Shadle Koppenhaver. They were married for 58 years in April 2005.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Lebanon. Now retired, Mr. Koppenhaver worked as a brick mason from Local #16 and as a custodian for Donegal High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Pavlik. The USS Pavlik was the third ship into Tokyo Bay as part of an escort for the USS Missouri on which the peace treaty with Japan was signed. He was also a member of the American Legion in Valley View, PA. As part of the 2002 Tri-Valley High School graduating class in Hegins, he received his diploma in 2002 because he left school to serve during World War II.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Erdman.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Renee Kissinger, Harrisburg, and Joan Leedom; two grandchildren, Nicole and Scot Leedom; and a sister, Ruth Zubrickie, Valley View.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, from St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 534 East Lehman Street, Lebanon at 11 a.m. with Pastor James DeLong, officiating. There will be no viewing. John B. Kelly
John B. Kelly, 85, of 2001 Harrisburg Pike, Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, formerly of 127 E. Chestnut Street, Lancaster and Glen Moore, PA, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2005, at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the husband of Mary Woods Kelly. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on January 18th.

He is the son of the late John B. and Laura A. Murphy Kelly.

Mr. Kelly graduated with a B.S. degree from M.I.T. and was employed as an engineer for 40 years. He worked with Kawecki-Berylco, Thiokol and All American Engineering, retiring in 1980.

He attended First United Methodist Church and was a Life Member with the American Society for Metals and was a member of the American Defense Preparation Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Elizabeth B. of Malvern, Christine B. Short of Harrisburg, Karolyn Kelly-O'Keefe of Harrisburg, John B. Kelly III, of Halifax, Michael B., of East Aurora, New York; and Peter B. Kelly of Middletown. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Karin B. Kelly and a sister, Doris Mary Kelly Peets preceded him in death.

Private graveside services will be held at the Fairview United Presbyterian Church cemetery, Glen Moore, PA.

Horace M. L. Sagner
Horace M.L. Sagner, 86, formerly of Valley View, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005. He resided at Masonic Village Health Care Center since August 2002.
Born in Coatesville, Jan. 27, 1919, he was a son of Horace and Virgin Sealer Sagner. His father died before he was born, during the 1918 flu epidemic and consequentially, Sagner enrolled at Girard College on Sept. 12, 1928.

While at Girard College, he was awarded the "G" in soccer by the Girard Athletic Council in the season of 1936. He also enrolled in the Battalion of Girard College on Feb. 1, 1933 and was honorable discharged on Feb. 18, 1936. He also sang a solo with the Philadelphia Symphony during this time. He graduated with honors and credit from Girard College on Jan. 19, 1937.

He served in the Army of Occupation in Japan and was honorable discharged after extending his service.

Sagner began his banking career in 1938 with Berks County Trust Company and remained with the company through the merger with American Bank for a total of 22 years. In 1959, he became employed by First National Bank of Hegins, where he remained through the merger with Meridian Bank, until his retirement in 1983.

Sagner endeavored to follow in the footsteps of his philanthropic benefactor, Stephen Girard, whose motto is "My deeds must be my life." This was reflected in Sagner's ongoing charitable participation in political and economic activities in his community.

Between 1970 and 1975, he served as board member and treasurer of the Health Systems Agency of Eastern Pennsylvania. From 1976 to 1980, he served in the Health Systems Agency of Northeastern Pennsylvania (HSA), which was the health planning committee for six northeastern counties and was instrumental in establishing a dialysis unit in the area.

Sagner served on the HSA in capacities including charter member, board member and president and he chaired the Financial Management Committee of the HSA. From 1976 to 1980, he also served on the Schuylkill County Health Council as an organizer and board member. His time on the council also included membership on the Financial Management Committee. Sagner was also chairperson of the Kocher Coal Company Mine Disaster Fund.

For 27 years, Sagner was a member of the Hegins Valley View Rotary, serving one term as president. He was a charter member of the Tri-Valley Lions Club, serving a period of time as president. In addition, he served periods as president and secretary treasurer of the Schuylkill County Bankers Association.

He was active for 35 years in the Schuylkill County Housing Authority in capacities including charter member, board member, vice president and chairman.

During his 38 years with Tri-Valley Charities, he served periods in the capacities of organizer, charter member and treasurer. He also served as chairman of the Tri-Valley Charities Emergency Committee, Southern Schuylkill VOTECH Building Authority and Tri-Valley Joint School Authority.

He served as a member of the Schuylkill County Health Advisory Council, including time as chairperson of its Hospital Service Committee. He served as a board member for the Red Cross of Pottsville and was recognized for voluntarily donating nine gallons of blood through their regional blood services. He was an active volunteer for the Salvation Army as well. He contributed to the withdrawal of the application for a proposed medical waste incinerator in Bear Valley.

His Masonic affiliations include Charter Membership, Valley View Lodge 797 and membership in the Tremont Royal Arch Chapter 221.

Sagner is survived by his proud and loving wife of 55 years, Margaret Heim Sagner.

His sister, Susan Mary Sagner, preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2000.

Committal services were held Monday, Nov. 21 at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, Annville. The Rev. Warren I. Egebo officiated. Minnig-Berger Funeral Home, Tremont, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorian L. Fasnacht
Dorian L. Fasnacht, age 79, of Wiconisco, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at home.
She was the daughter of the late Leroy and Edna Evans Bordlemay and the wife of the late Paul S. Fasnacht, Jr.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Beverly Stefonich and her husband, Michael of Lebanon, and Elizabeth Hockenberry of Jonestown; a sister, Joyce L. Bordlemay of Lykens; and 2 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21 at Indiantown Gap National cemetery, with the Rev. Keith J. Schmuck officiating. There was no viewing or visitation.

John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, had charge of arrangements.

Willis Doss
Willis "Slim" Doss, 87, of Sweet Arrow Lake Road, Pine Grove, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at home.
Born in Bakewell, Tenn., April 3, 1918, he was a son of the late Calvin Rufus and Lucinda Ledford Doss.

He had been employed at the Tannery, Reading.

He was a member of Hetzel's United Church of Christ, Hetzel's Church Road, Pine Grove. He was a private in the Army during World War II, having served with the 104th General Hospital. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal.

He was a life member of Pine Grove VFW Post 3432, a member of the NRA and Roedersville Game and Fish.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Lillian Spancake Doss; a son, Donald Doss, Gordon; three daughters, Mary Jane, wife Brown, Linda Brown, and June Carl, all of Pine Grove; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. William Pifer-Foote officiating. The viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Schuylkill Memorial Park cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.

The family would prefer donations be given to Hetzel's United Church of Christ, c/o Mae Hummel, 3264 Sweet Arrow Lake Road, Pine Grove, PA 17963.

Catherine L. Holtzman
Catherine L. Holtzman, 94, of 403 Center Street, Millersburg, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at the Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was born in Dauphin County, on November 12, 1910, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Susan (Zimmerman) Holtzman.

She retired from the former Muskin Shoe Factory, Millersburg., and was a member of the former Killinger Grange.

She is survived by 5 nieces, Mary Bohner of Millersburg, Anna McSurdy of Williamstown, Sara Zimmerman of Millersburg, Theresa Collins of Fairfax, Alabama, and Mary Johnson of Painted Post, New York; 2 nephews, John Holtzman of Elizabethville and William Zettlemoyer of Millersville.

Graveside memorial services will were held at Salem Lutheran Church cemetery in Killinger, on Saturday, Nov. 19, with Rev. Elizabeth George officiating. Arrangements by Hoover Funeral Home, Inc., in Millersburg. Sign the register book at hooverfuneral-homes.com
