Lesta E. Rathman
Nov. 13, 1914 - Nov. 30, 2001

Lesta E. Rathman, 86, formerly of Reamstown, Lancaster County, died Friday at 3:10 PM in the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village, Myerstown, Lebanon County, where she was a guest for the past 3 1/2 years. Born in Stouchsburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Ella (Ranck) Schoener. Her husband, Clarence F. “Beevie” Rathman, Sr., died September 1, 2000. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher of St. Paul’s Evangelical Congregational Church, Reamstown. She retired in 1975 from the former Cinderella Knitting Mill, Denver. Lesta is survived by a son, Clarence “Hank” Rathman, Jr., married to Anneliese (Kratzmann) Rathman, Stevens; a grandson; and 3 sisters, Fern (Schoener) Ream, Adamstown; Elsie (Schoener) Tobias, and Grace (Schoener) Wolf, both of Richland, PA.

Lesta's viewing will be held on Monday evening, December 3, 2001, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in our parlors.

The casket will also be open prior to the service on Tuesday, December 4, 2001, in St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church, 56 East Church Street, Reamstown, PA, where The Reverend Kirk R. Marks and The Rev. Melvin H. Stehr will officiate at 10:00 AM.

Burial will follow in Muddy Creek cemetery, Swartzville, PA.

The family has requested that rather than flowers, contributions in Lesta's memory be sent to the St. Paul's E. C. Church Building Fund, Post Office Box 275, Reamstown, PA 17567-0275 or to the ECC Retirement Village, 7 West Park Avenue, Myerstown, PA 17067

Helen Marie Nelson "Chut"
Jan. 5, 1925 - Nov. 12, 2001 We Remember "Chut"...

Helen Marie “Chut” Nelson, 76, of 244 Willow Street, Adamstown, Lancaster County died Monday morning in Semper Care Hospital, Lancaster, where she was a patient for 3 weeks. Her death followed a lengthy illness. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Russell S., Sr., and Helen (Wilson) Nelson. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, Lancaster County. Miss Nelson was employed from 1945-60 in the credit department of the former Pomeroy’s Department Store, Reading; had worked at the former Leininger Knitting Mill, Mohnton; and retired in 1990 from Bollman Hat Factory, Adamstown. A 1942 graduate of the former Shillington High School, she was an avid bowler in her younger years. Surviving are 2 brothers, Russell S. Nelson, Jr., Stevens Point, Wisconsin; and Barry R., married to Nancy R. (Artz) Nelson, Shillington, PA; 2 nieces and a nephew.

Chut's memorial ceremony will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at 7:00 PM with The Reverend William E. Hoch officiating in Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville. There will be no viewing at her request.

It is requested that flowers not be sent. Contributions in Chut's memory may be sent to the Memorial Fund of Peace United Church of Christ, 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517.

Theodore H. Myers "Motz"
April 26, 1925 - October 26, 2001
"Motz" aka "Ted" Myers

Theodore H. “Motz” Myers, 76, of 316 West Main Street, Ephrata, Lancaster County, died unexpectedly in his van Friday evening at the Green Dragon Farmers Market, Ephrata Township, where he had worked earlier that afternoon. His death was attributed to natural causes. Born in Ephrata, he was a son of the late Earl H. and Marie (Horst) Myers. His wife, Arlene M. (Hufford) Myers, died July 11, 2000. “Motz”, as most people knew him, was the owner and operator of the former Ted “Motz” Myers Floor Covering, Ephrata, for 35 years, until retiring in 1983. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ, Ephrata, and an army veteran of World War II. Myers was a member of the Ephrata Post 3376 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Reamstown Athletic Association and was a former Republican Committeeman of Ephrata’s 3rd Ward. He was an avid woodworking craftsman, fisherman, sportsman, and in the last few years he enjoyed “farming” saffron at his home. Surviving are 3 sons, Lon G., married to Gloria (Ober) Myers, Ephrata; Drew A., married to Deborah M. (Root) Myers, Ephrata; and Brad J., married to Sarah S. (Miller) Myers, Akron, PA; 5 grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys D. Flory, Ephrata.

Ted's viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, October 30, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM from our parlor. The funeral ceremony will be held from the funeral home on Wednesday, October 31, 2001, at 10:00 AM with his pastor, The Rev. Levina S. Huber, officiating. Burial with military honors will be held from Cedar Hill cemetery, Ephrata. The Red Rose Honor Guard of Lancaster County will conduct the presentation.

Barbara Jean Mohn
"Snookie"
Nov. 26, 1937 - Sept. 1, 2001

Barbara Jean “Snookie” Mohn, age 63, of 267 East Main Street, Adamstown, Lancaster County, died Saturday evening in the Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, Berks County, where she was a patient for 9 days. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Elmer K. and Elva V. (Rudy) Mohn. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville. Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, Shillington, and a 1958 graduate of Reading Hospital School of Nursing, West Reading. She was employed for 39 years as a registered nurse, night charge nurse, for the Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, retiring in 1997. She was a life member of the Reading Hospital School of Nursing Alumna Association, and was the first female member of the Adamstown Fire Company. Surviving are cousins.

The funeral ceremony will be held from our parlor on Friday, September 7, 2001, at 11:00 AM with her pastor, The Reverend William E. Hoch, officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service with burial immediately following in Cedar Grove cemetery, Adamstown, PA.

It is requested that flowers NOT be sent, however, you are welcome to remember "Snookie" with contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110.

Jay Ivan Millman
Sept. 23, 1931 - May 27, 2001

Born in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, PA, Jay was a son of the late Harry and Anna (Slootsky) Millman. He and his wife, Joan (Swerdlow) Millman, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last August 12th. He was a letter carrier for the US Postal Service in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, for 30 years, retiring in December of 1990. Jay was a 1950 graduate of Binghamton High School, Binghamton, New York. He was a member and past chancellor of the Knight of Pythias Lodge #155, Passaic, New Jersey. Since his retirement he was an active collector and dealer of antiques with booths at Renninger's Antique Market, Adamstown, and Adam's Antique Mall, Denver. He was also an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. In addition to Joan, he is survived by a daughter, Ann L., married to David A. Burns, Cumberland, Maryland; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer & Samara; and a sister, Esther Wiener, Delray Beach, Florida. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Berardi, and a brother, Robert A. Millman.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at 10:00 AM in King Solomon cemetery, Dwas Line Road, Clifton, New Jersey. The Jewish Memorial Chapel of Clifton will be in charge of the arrangements in New Jersey.

Cordelia H. Miller
Feb. 23, 1913 - Nov. 11, 2001

Cordelia H. Miller, 88, formerly of Reinholds, Lancaster County, died at 4:01 AM in the Ephrata Community Hospital where she was a patient one day. She resided at Maple Farms Nursing Center, Akron, since January 2000. She was born in Clay Township, Lancaster County, a daughter of the late Franklin K. and Nora (Heilinger) Frederick. Her husband, Walter K. Miller, died November 13, 1973. Cordelia was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, Lancaster County, she enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Surviving are 2 daughters, Betty J. Hackman, Ephrata; and Shirley A., married to Terry L.. Rauser, Akron; 3 sons, Roy H., married to Nancy J. (Hartranft) Frederick, Denver, PA; Franklin F. Miller, Sr., Stevens, PA; and Paul E., married to Scarlett J. (Brossman) Miller, Kleinfeltersville, PA; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Sallie N. married to Henry R. Hackman, Ephrata; Myrl M. Burkholder, Mechanicsburg; and Myrtle M, married to Donald R. Kindt, Reinholds. She was preceded in death earlier this year by a son Walter F. Miller. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Darcey R. Dinger, and a brother, Franklin A. Frederick.

Cordelia's funeral ceremony will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2001, at 10:00 AM with The Reverend William E. Hoch officiating in our parlor. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, November 13, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Interment will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Spring Township, Berks County.

Annie E. Mentzer
December 1, 1922 September 21, 2001

Annie E. Mentzer, 78, of 307 Grant Road, Adamstown, Lancaster County, formerly of Bowmansville, Lancaster County, died Friday evening at the Essa Flory Hospice Center, East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, where she was a guest for the past two weeks. Born in Brecknock Township, Berks County, she was a daughter of the late William David and Ellenora (Bennethum) Moyer. Her husband, Clarence B. Mentzer, died September 17, 1994. She was a member of Emmanuel Evangelical Congregational Church, Adamstown. Retiring in 1983, she was employed for 32 years by Hope Hosiery Mill, Adamstown. Annie was a Gold Star Mother of the Vietnam War, having lost a son, Gerald L. Mentzer, in 1966. She was a Nascar fan, enjoyed collecting angels, dolls and stuffed animals, and was a true Christmas enthusiast, enjoying Christmas decorations year round in her home. Surviving are 2 sons, F. Gene, married to Dawn M. (Neff) Moyer, Bowmansville; and Randolph G. Mentzer, Adamstown; a granddaughter; and a sister, Ada May (Moyer) Miller, Reading.

A viewing will be held from our parlors on Monday evening, September 24, 2001, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.

The Funeral ceremony will take place from our funeral home on Tuesday morning, September 25, 2001, at 11:00 AM with Annie's pastor, The Reverend Richard F. Christman, II, officiating. Burial will follow in Bowmansville Union cemetery, Bowmansville, PA.

The family requests that rather than flowers, please remember Annie with contributions to Hospice of Lancaster County, Post Office Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.

Paul C. Martin
Sept. 7, 1916 - May 5, 2001

Paul was born in Shillington, Berks County, PA, a son of the late William A. and Cora M. (Renninger) Martin. His wife, Ada Mae (Gensemer) Martin, died December 12, 1999. He was a member and former deacon of Swamp United Church of Christ, Reinholds, and was a 50 year member of Chandler Lodge #227 Free & Accepted Mason, Reading, and the Reading Consistory. Paul has worked at the former Berkshire Knitting Mill, Wyomissing; former Dutchmaid, Inc., Ephrata; and retired from Carpenter Technology, Corp., Reading. He was also a life-long farmer. He is survived by a brother, Lynn R., married to Marian (Hornberger) Martin, Akron; a sister, Miriam, married to Howard H. Gerhart, Reading; and several nieces and nephews.

Held onThursday, May 10, 2001, at 10:00 AM from our parlor with his nephew, Rev. Jeffrey L. Martin, and his pastor, Rev. M. Craig Snow, officiating. Interment was in Swamp cemetery, Reinholds. A viewing was held one hour prior to the services.

Adelene K. Lorah
Feb. 8, 1916 - Nov. 13, 2001

Adelene K. Lorah, 85, of Mohnton RD 3, formerly of Adamstown and Leola, died Tuesday at 5:35 PM in the residence of her grandson, Jan C. Johnson. Born in Brecknock Township, Lancaster County, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Jennie (Kachel) Witwer. Her husband, Ivan G. Lorah, died June 24, 1992. She was a member of Muddy Creek Evangelical Lutheran Church, Denver. Mrs. Lorah was employed for over 30 years by Bollman Hat Factory, Adamstown, retiring in 1978. Surviving in addition to her grandson, is a son, Jack M. Lorah, Leola; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Marie Shelly, Ephrata, and a brother, William Witwer, Denver. A daughter, John D. Johnson, also preceded her in death.

Adelene's viewing will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2001, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 PM. The Reverend Jeffrey K. Lott will officiate. Burial will follow in Muddy Creek cemetery, East Cocalico Township, PA.
